Best happy hour for sushi lovers in Seattle! My college besties celebrated our April babies on our visit At here and we got a ton of food for great prices. Where can you get a good 5 piece sashimi appetizer for $10? There are 2 HH times (4-6p and 10p-12a) Highly recommend HH: -sashimi -garlic short ribs -crispy calamari -Seattle roll Love the indoor lush patio dining ambiance. Our server was also very friendly and accommodating with our big group. He even gave us the 3 desserts on the house for our 3 bday celebrants! We left stuffed and happy - the next day we were already talking about coming back.

Great: drinks and service Good: ambience, good for groups Meh: sushi quality could be much better. It was more apparent trying the sashimi, as sauces and other ingredients hide the quality of the fish. Some of the rolls were also surprisingly spicy (I have a medium tolerance level), which makes it harder for a group to enjoy with different levels of tolerance.

Umi Sake House use to be a go to spot for us during happy hour as the prices were great! However, this trip it felt just okay. It's still a popular spot, and we only waited about 10 minutes on a Friday, which wasn't bad. The space is still a vibe--dim lighting, lots of greenery, and a great date night atmosphere--but it does get pretty loud once it fills up. Service was solid and attentive, and we were able to order happy hour right on time, which I appreciated. For food, we tried a mix of items. The garlic short ribs had good flavor, but were a bit tougher than expected and leaned on the sweeter side. We also had calamari, which was hit or miss--some pieces were crispy, others a little chewy. The soft shell crab in the spider roll was fried with a thick bready batter which we didn't love. We preferred the thin tempura. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out either, especially compared to how I remembered it before. Happy hour is still a decent deal, but I'm not rushing back anytime soon.

Sashimi and nigiri were good. Our group got the largest platters. The adegashi tofu was delicious. Perfect firmness, batter, and sauce. Had a great courtyard in the middle of the restaurant.

Amazing food! Definitely come here for the sashimi. Overall it was a great experience, from the gorgeous interior to the beautifully decorated plates. I loved that it came with edamame as a starter. Everything was so marvelous. The garlic ribs were delicious, and the sushi was excellent as well. Of course, my favorite had to be the salmon sashimi. The staff were very attentive, and we didn't have to wait too long for a table. The prices also felt reasonable for the quality of the food. We ordered a lot of food and ended up much fuller than expected, haha. The green tea tiramisu was definitely a highlight, and I really wish I lived closer so I could come back more often! I would definitely recommend trying the garlic ribs and the salmon sashimi.

What a hidden gem! First time in Seattle and wanted to have fresh sushi. This place delivered! At first, it does not appear to be busy, but the main dining area is hidden behind a long hallway and reception area. Once we got to our table, this place was PACKED. Make sure you have a reservation. We unknowingly arrived during happy hour where they had great deals on sushi and drinks. The sashimi was to die for! Their calamari was also excellent. Very crispy and well seasoned. My favorite thing ever was their green tea tiramisu! Do not skip on this! Our waitress was delightful. The restaurant itself was enthusiastic and filled with energy! Great place for family dinner or date night. Easy to access for pedestrians

For a higher end sushi spot, I think they use way too much sauce even on simple rolls, and obviously even more on "special" ones. We came for happy hour and tried a bunch of things. We enjoyed the ambiance and the nigiri sets, but overall wouldn't come rushing back

Nice flavors. Liked the miso soup and the tempura (was soggy, but I got takeout so what do you expect with tempura). The Cali roll wasn't my fav. Overall would return and sit in!

DELISH!!! The best seafood I have eaten for a while! My favorite were the Chef's special and the uni...SUPERB! The desserts were yummy too. Reminder to make advance reservations before coming if you don't want to wait in the long line

I just feel like I've had better fish in Arizona, and Seattle is so close to water. Sad face! The ambiance is divine though, and the sake cocktails are amazing, especially the cucumber sake. Lychee lemonade is a personal fave. The sushi platter is not worth it though...

I came to umi sake house after work on a Friday (perfect time for happy hour!) The wait for a table wasn't too bad (~5-10 minutes). The interior is very nice, though the side tables (by the bar but not at the bar) are pretty small. We got a plate of edamame right as we sat down which was so nice. We got the salmon sashimi don and the garlic short ribs. Overall I think it was okay. The garlic short ribs were a bit tough and a little too sweet for me. The salmon tasted fresh, but I wish there was more to this bowl. I think I need to come back to try their speciality sushi rolls!

Definitely one of the better sushi spots in Seattle and their happy hour is so worth it. They have a wide selection of different sushi and other dishes to choose from. The fish taste pretty fresh, which is a plus. Love the vibes of this place as well, and the service was great. The waiters were really attentive and checked in pretty often.

This is one of my favorite spots for happy hour in Belltown. The food is always good and there's a wide selection to choose from on their happy hour menu. We enjoyed the pink lychee cooler and was warned it was more tart than sweet. The garlic short ribs and crispy calamari are must haves. I always enjoy the hamachi kama and they have a good one. It was nice to see that they offer a complimentary dessert for special occasions. In this case, my daughter opted for the lychee ice cream to celebrate her birthday. Service was great and staff were attentive. I'm not a fan of the couch and low table seating that they have. Reservations are recommended and allow time to find parking.

Ask the Community - Umi Sake House

Is there a tatami seating area? Is that tatami area reserved only for large groups?

Hi Douglas. There is a tatami room that seats 8-12 guests and guests must be 21+ years of age.

    Is there a dress code?

No dress code. More casual dressing.

Does the restaurant have its own parking? If not, where is the nearest parking?

It is just street parking, which can be hard to find.

    Are minors allowed?

Absolutely! There is a whole restaurant - but they obviously cannot sit for happy hour at the bar.

    Is there outdoor seating?

Kind of? There's a sort of courtyard where they can open all the windows so it's very open airflow but not fully outside

    Is there AC?

of course - there's a ton of seafood in there lol only makes sense

Do they require proof of vax or negative test prior to entry?

Yes! With ID to prove that the vaccination card is yours.

Are your short ribs gluten free?

No, there is gluten in the marinade.

    Are walk ins welcome?

    Yes if they have space.

    Is there happy hour?

Yes they do have happy hour from 4-6pm and 10pm-close daily. Mentioned on their website as well.

What time does the kitchen close nightly?

Hi Mario! Thanks for reaching out :) Our kitchen closes at 12am every night.

How do you get seated in the tatami room? I've came a bunch of times and never get offered a seat there?

It has to be requested on a reservation.

I have one person in my party allergic to fish. Are there a few chicken dishes to choose from? In browsing the menu photos I only see one or two dishes and can't tell if it is something current or not (rotating menu?).

Yes, there are many dishes without fish. Do you mean shellfish? I've never heard of a fish allergy.

    Do they offer brown rice?

Hi Liana, Unfortunately, we do not serve brown rice at Umi due to the high volume demand of the… Read more

Very good to know for future reference. Karaage is in the name and is their signature dish. They make it the right way using chicken thigh. Prices are reasonable for the Seattle area. We will return again. The Food: Curry Rice with Karaage, $17.95 - 4 Stars This popular curry rice comes with a choice of protein, which naturally, we chose karaage. The curry sauce is delicious. The salad wasn't overdressed and tasted refreshing with a light dressing. I would order this again. Karaage Chicken, small, $6.95 - 5 Stars Glad they offer the chicken as a side. The small is a good compliment to salad. Instead of four pieces, we had five. Hubby was happy to have more protein to go with the rice. They are more of a 4.5 stars rating. Their service speed bumped them up to 5 Stars.

There is a caveat though, which is that they only have select items in the AYCE menu. The ambiance of the place was inviting enough for us to give them a try! There is a 90 minute window for AYCE, and you can order a maximum of 3 items per person every 15 minutes. All orders have to be made from an app on your phone so make sure you have a fully charged device! When we logged in the app, it was confusing to manage at first so we worked with the server to put our orders in. She had to put in our orders for us a couple of times and then we figured out how to work the system after that. To do the math for those reading the review and maximize the number of items you can order with the 90 minute window, you can potentially order up to 18 sets of skewers per person. Each set of skewer has two sticks. My hubby and I missed a few items from our order but we were getting full after my 10th skewer and his 15th skewer so it did not matter too much! The AYCE menu also has options to order zaru soba, corn cheese, and takoyaki! Presentation is great but I wish the flavor matched the visuals. The standout skewers for us were the boruta pork and the wagyu beef tongue. I was really hoping that the yakitori would be crispier and had more of a smokey flavor but I really can't complain too much for the price point. The food is solid but not like a wow, I have to come back here again! We only saw one server for the busiest part of the night, serving 8 tables all at once. She made sure that our glasses were never empty and she treated us warmly. Wile the decor and the general atmosphere are pleasant, the quality of the food would not merit another visit for me.
