We came here after a long day and we were delighted by the place. Very clean, and very lovely little Izakaya place. There was also a giant tv so if you catch some sports, you could do that as well. however, I think the food itself really shines here. We got the seafood combo skewers and bowls of beef udon. They were absolutely delicious. They were grilled to the perfect temperature and texture, and it was seasoned to perfection. The udon had warm broth that tasted unique to this place, and would strongly recommend. I did think that it was quite pricey for the amount of food you get here, but that's just the Seattle price for you. Still, I would strongly recommend if you were I. The neighborhood. Manzoku Izakaya offers a budget-friendly AYCE option for yakitori that is hard to find anywhere else in the downtown Seattle area. There is a caveat though, which is that they only have select items in the AYCE menu. The ambiance of the place was inviting enough for us to give them a try! There is a 90 minute window for AYCE, and you can order a maximum of 3 items per person every 15 minutes. All orders have to be made from an app on your phone so make sure you have a fully charged device! When we logged in the app, it was confusing to manage at first so we worked with the server to put our orders in. She had to put in our orders for us a couple of times and then we figured out how to work the system after that. To do the math for those reading the review and maximize the number of items you can order with the 90 minute window, you can potentially order up to 18 sets of skewers per person. Each set of skewer has two sticks. My hubby and I missed a few items from our order but we were getting full after my 10th skewer and his 15th skewer so it did not matter too much! The AYCE menu also has options to order zaru soba, corn cheese, and takoyaki! Presentation is great but I wish the flavor matched the visuals. The standout skewers for us were the boruta pork and the wagyu beef tongue. I was really hoping that the yakitori would be crispier and had more of a smokey flavor but I really can't complain too much for the price point. The food is solid but not like a wow, I have to come back here again! We only saw one server for the busiest part of the night, serving 8 tables all at once. She made sure that our glasses were never empty and she treated us warmly. While in Belltown, I stopped by Manzoku Izakaya because I was craving ramen and hadn't had any in a while. To start, I ordered a vegetarian kushiyaki--specifically the miso-fried tofu (2x). It was so good that I ended up ordering two more rounds, mainly because the portions are very small. The tofu cubes were extremely crispy and flavorful, but what really stole the show was the saikyo miso drizzle. It added a rich, savory depth that completely elevated the dish. This was easily the highlight of my meal. For my entrée, I ordered the vegetarian ramen, which wasn't listed on the physical menu. Instead, ordering is done entirely through a QR code embedded at the table--you use it to order food, beverages, and even request the check, so be prepared for that if you dine in. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with the ramen. The broth felt flat and lacking in flavor, like something was missing, and it just didn't hit the way I expected. For drinks, I had the Blood Moon, made with Toki whiskey, blood orange syrup, and a dried orange slice. I ended up having about three--decent, enjoyable, but nothing standout. It may be under new ownership and rebranded to a new name, but the same underwhelming food and experience stays the same. I've been here twice before under their original name, and vowed to never return as it was indeed that bad, but the rebranding gave me new and improved hope. That turned out to be a lie because they kept everything the same. Food was inconsistent even the same skewers ordered twice came out differently. We chose their AYCE option and they "lost" multiple skewers, but the ordering came from the tablet, so how does that even happen? Used to be shinya shokudo and while the name has changed, idk if ownership did too or if it's a rebranding because they do still have a lot of very similar things. Between my friend and I we got a beef udon (really yummy, teeeeeeny little bowl though), shishito, okra, beef tendon skewers with salt (all solid), scallops with sauce (sauce was a bit much for me, the scallops were good though), and the salmon donburi (i don't even like raw fish but could tell this was good). This place recently changed its name and possibly ownership. It used to be called Shinya Shokudo. The inside does look the same and they kept a similar menu. I think that there were updates to the menu in adding more options on there. On my recent trip, I ordered their beef udon, which was a good portion for a good price. My husband ordered the salmon donburi bowl. The salmon had some citrus on it and it tasted very fresh. We always order the chicken karaage when we come here. It always tastes very good with some lemon on top and has a good crisp to it. It typically comes with large pieces too. I would definitely recommend coming here and plan to continue coming back here. read more

Visited in January as a party of 2 with reservations. The atmosphere was nice, but the service was very uninviting and unlike experiences I have had at other izakayas. Our drinks were never refilled, the water was lukewarm, and we were never checked on during the meal. For those to whom it matters, there was a noticeable language barrier. That said, it was not a major issue since ordering is done entirely from your phone using a QR code menu. Interaction with staff is minimal regardless. We started with the small dish set, a chef's daily assortment of six appetizers. Ours included tamagoyaki, seaweed salad, karaage chicken, takoyaki, salmon sashimi, and scallop sashimi. Presentation was nice, but the quality was uneven. Overall rating for the set was 3/5. For skewers, we ordered miso chicken (2/5), chicken thigh (4/5), wagyu (5/5), and eel (5/5). The wagyu and eel were excellent and easily the best items we had. The miso chicken was forgettable. Drinks included a lemon sour and a Sapporo. Both were served lukewarm and were never offered to be refilled. Overall, I would rate Manzoku Izakaya 3/5 stars. It was fine, but not memorable, and it lacked the warmth and hospitality I usually associate with an izakaya. Not enough here to justify a return. read more

I wish there were more Izakaya's like Manzouka in Seattle! The AYCE option is the most budget friendly by far. Caveat here is, only select items are included in the AYCE price. To be fair, it is still a decent cross section of the skewers, ramen, udon and side dishes represented. There is a 90 min time window and you can only order 3 items every 15 minutes and all orders are ordered on the tablet at your table. There is a timer that counts down to when you are able to put in another order. This sort of put a bit of pressure to get your order in to maximize your ordering window. For $45 I got 28 skewers which is sort of a steal! I never got one of the items but after 28 skewers I wasn't missing it. They seemed a bit understaffed but I could tell they were hustling to keep up with the growing number of patrons. Stand out skewers were the beef tendon and the chicken with cheese surprisingly. Some of the other skewers I wanted to try were not included in the AYCE menu. As budget friendly as this was, I would probably just order from the menu next time rather than go with the AYCE option. read more

Meant to check this out to see how different they were to Shinya Shokudo. The quick answer is that they are not, but they seem to lack the amazing happy hour deals. The decor is the same as ever. The food selection of Yakitori, general Izakaya fare, and even Nabe hot pots are all there. I had the creamy udon with a couple of kushiyaki skewers and was pleased with everything. I saw a poster describing their AYCE process. For $44 you can only order 3 skewers at a time and at 15 minute intervals 90 minutes max. So I guess that means 6 orders max, of 3 pairs of skewers each....so....carry the one...that means 36 skewers for $44. I suppose that's an okay deal, but your brain will signal your fullness before you get there I'm sure. read more

Was so disappointed with this experience. We came here to celebrate for a birthday based on the good reviews. When we initially had questions the waitress was on the phone with an earbud on. Got the ayce option and with the rules of 15 minute increments only were able to order two rounds as each round took 45 minutes for all of the food to come out. We had to remind or ask our waitress about the food and drinks we ordered because it hadn't come out a few times. Almost all of the meat was tough and lacked any charred flavor of yakitori. Don't waste your time and money, this was one of the worst Japanese meals I've had in Seattle and the some of the worst service ever for over $200. read more

Manzoku (formerly known as Shin Ya) is an izakaya spot that has a lot of good options for food - skewers, udon, ramen, rice bowls, sashimi, etc. My personal favorites are the oden (fish cake soup), chicken heart skewers, mentaiko creamy udon, and the karaage. It was really cold in there and they charge $13 for hot tea! Some kind of scam to keep warm. Do It Properly, or Don't Do It at All Terribly Disappointed. I went in expecting the same quality--or better--than Shinya Shokudo, which used to be one of my favorite spots downtown. Instead, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in Seattle. As soon as I walked in, I noticed a claw machine with Labubu as a prize. Cute idea, until I asked if it was real. The server checked with the owner and confirmed it was fake. That's misleading and feels like fraud--offering counterfeit prizes to lure reviews is not acceptable. The food was bad across the board. The bento (6 tasting dishes) tasted like it had been sitting out all day. Scallops, salmon, and seaweed were unpleasantly fishy. The zaru soba was even worse: undercooked, served warm, and clearly not chilled in ice water the way it should be. To make matters worse, it came out late--after we asked where it was--despite the restaurant being nearly empty (just one other table on a Thursday at 6pm). There's no excuse for that. Even the basics were handled poorly: * The sauce in the sriracha bottle was gunky and unusable. If you're going to serve house-made sauce, keep it usable or don't put it out. * Only one napkin was given, which I had to waste cleaning the bottle cap--and the sauce was still unusable. * The tables are tiny, portions small, and the prices way too high for the quality--even for downtown Seattle. Bottom line: overpriced, poor quality food, misleading promotions, and sloppy execution. Seattle has too many good Japanese spots to waste your time and money here. Note to the Owner(s): If you are reading this, please reach out after these issues are fixed. I'd be more than happy to update my review--I would love to see this restaurant become a favorite again. We came on a Saturday night for dinner doing the AYCE menu. Service was very slow despite the restaurant being only at half capacity. Staff was not very attentive. We had to wait at the front door awkwardly for a good while while the servers kept walking back and forth in front of us. The food took a very long time to come out and was very mediocre. Even the sauces took a long time to come out. One of the chicken skewers was not fully cooked so we had to send it back. Beef was dry and bland. The seafood pancake was very doughy and had octopus and imitation crab (to cut costs I am guessing). We had some leftover corn cheese by the end of our meal and they tried to charge us for it :///.
