I am really sad to be writing this, since the food was good and the sushi chefs appear to be on it, unfortunately the waitstaff is not. We dined on a Friday around 6:30pm. When we got there, six of the fourteen tables were empty and the sushi bar had no one seated in any of the 10 chairs. It looked promising that we would have no wait and hopefully good service. This was not the case. There were three servers, a manager, and three sushi chefs. The manager had us wait "three minutes" by the register in order for them to clean tables, but there were already clean tables to seat us at. While we waited, three other families came in, so now there was a line behind us. After about seven minutes we were sat... without menus. The other families were sat too, but at least they got menus... and drinks, well before we were even noticed. We were sat at the front of the restaurant, next to the register, so we were hard to miss, but apparently were invisible for a good 10 minutes. The manager finally came over to asked if we wanted drinks, not once apologizing for this ridiculous service. We ordered water and asked for menus. He spent the next three minutes looking for menus. Apparently they had given them all out to everyone who was sat after us. We quickly ordered five rolls, an order of nigiri, and edamame, as we were not going to give them anymore opportunities to ignore us. While we waited for the food, we watched a waiter spill a beer on a customer and break a glass at the bar. I guess we're lucky it was not us, at this point... The food came out pretty fast, thanks to the sushi chefs. While we were eating, I asked a server for the check. I then had to ask the manager for the check, five minutes later. The check was presented and we immediately put our card in the folder and placed it at the end of the table. I then watched all the waitstaff and the manager stand at the back by an order kiosk, appearing to chat happily. The manager walked by our table three more times. It took another 10 minutes before I finally had to signal the manager that the check was ready. During this entire atrocious experience, not once did I hear an apology and the manager was completely involved. $54 for this lesson learned. read more

We have been to Umiya Sushi several times now. Always friendly service and some of the tastiest & super fresh sushi. Food is beautifully prepared and love the Fuji, Alison, and Umiya rolls. So glad to have a good sushi place in Leander ... we look forward to many future visits. read more

We went this past Saturday about 3. We were not impressed. The food was luke warm (Miso) and the rolls were bland, little taste. The floors of the restaurant were dirty, there are two fish tanks that need to be cleaned ie they stink and to top it off you can look into the kitchen an it was not very clean - box of Lipton tea on the ground, floors with food on them. We were served edmae and I saw it come from the microwave in the kitchen. Last, and this was big. The guy making the sushi kept going to the kitchen to blow and wipe his nose. They he would go back to making sushi. NOT COOL. read more

We are big fans of the Umiya in Cedar Park and hadn't yet tried this location because we thought it was sushi only. So happy that today we stopped in for lunch. The menu included our fave beef bulgogi and several other favorites. The miso ramen I had was fantastic, nice large portion of meat in it and two egg halves. The broth was delicious. Tried it again. The first time we walked out because they refused to make a menu mod for my kid even paying extra. We went back and the quality of sushi was horrible. I broke the cardinal rule eating sushi on a Sunday which is why most quality places aren't open Sunday. Anyway everything was not fresh and tasted bad. So many other option not to much further away. I think my biggest issue is Randall's across the street has better quality sushi. read more

Started with ordering delivery on their website through grub hub then after waiting 45 minutes I called and they said they didn't deliver today and they need to update their website. Then we go pick it up and we were given our meals with no miso soup when it clearly says on their website both of our meals come with miso soup and steamed rice. Well when we went back to get them (since I paid for it) they again said they need to update their website because it's for dine in only. Then I ordered 2 side salads because it didn't say anywhere we get side salads but apparently we do and I didn't need to order 2 extra. I got chicken teriyaki and the chicken pieces were mixed dark and white and not very good at all. My husband did like his bulgogi. The owner (I'm assuming) sat us down while we waited for our food, asked if we wanted and drinks while we waited (we declined). My husband and I wanted to try this place out for our date night since all the reviews were so good, however we very disappointed. If you like good sushi like Tomo or Soto then this isn't even close. I have been to Umiya probably a dozen times since they have opened, and I feel it's about time I take a minute and praise their effort and hard work. Every single time, I have received friendly courteous service, and wonderful food. Several times they have gone above and beyond my expectations. One such time was last week I took my mom in for dinner. She has a suppressed immune system and can't eat anything raw or undercooked. We love sushi so this can be a challenge. We explained her issue and they took extra care and attention with her food. The chef himself personally came to the table three times to check on her and explain how he was preparing each dish in order to meet her needs! Wow, how often do you see that attention given these days! They have often brought out complimentary dishes to try and the place is clean and well cared for. They are in a location that is not readily noticed so I'm hoping they do well enough to stay here in out little town!! read more

This was my first visit to Umiya. The service was warm and friendly, but the food was amazing. I ordered multiple sushi rolls and a beef and vegetable w noodles main course. I had to tell my fellow dinner guests that I thought I was dreaming and don't wake me up- yes it was that good. The brand new chef also surprised us w a family Japanese recipe on the house. DO NOT GO HERE. Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. The staff acted like we were "bothering" them for patronizing their restaurant. We came in there were only three parties in the restaurant. Took an hour to get our food. Never a word of apology for the long wait. Then I could not get anyone to give me my bill. Once they took it they lost my credit card. They are totally un equiped to serve people in a restaurant setting. If you have a choice of eating here or eating from a gas station.... go to the gas station across the street. I would NEVER go back here. This was our third visit, on a Saturday afternoon at 1:00. We really want this place to succeed and we like the food at their Cedar Park location. When we arrived there were two tables seated so we expected service to be good, and it mostly was. Wife got salmon teriyaki. It was not a good dish at all. How can a sushi restaurant create a salmon dish that tastes like cardboard? No salmon flavor or seasoning. The fish had a dry texture, like it had sat in refrigeration for a long time, maybe, or been frozen? It was comparable to a Luby's buffet item that had sat under a heat lamp, if even that good. Really, this was completely tasteless with a dry texture, even though cooked to medium. We puzzled over what could cause the salmon to be so meh. I had the tempura combo. Tempura coating was uneven and lumpy, and the shrimp and crab were also dry, like the salmon. Again, how can anyone make flavorless shrimp tempura? The tempura left me with a nasty oil taste in my mouth that got worse on the drive home. Unpleasant. The Miso soup was good. Service was mostly OK, but wife's salmon came out five minutes after my tempura. Cost with tip was $50. Nice dining room and convenient location. This restaurant could succeed but it seems this location's manager just can't get it together. Too bad. read more
