By far the best ramen around, actually the best food around! All of the food is so fresh, delicious and filling! The service is always great, very nice people! Usually this place is pretty decent but on a recent dine-in trip, we had the complete opposite experience. We ordered yellowtail sashimi and asked if they could do a spicy yellow tail roll in addition to other items we had ordered. The yellowtail sashimi came out in the brown sauce with jalapeños and siracha on top which we did not order. I ate one order and asked my wife to try hers before we sent it back. I was able to eat mine but she preferred regular. We told the server about the mistake and he said he'd fix it and oddly, they sent the same thing back out again. I asked what the deal was and the server said "Different chefs do things their own way and I don't know what else to say." We just shrugged but when we received the yellowtail roll, something tasted off about the fish. It was at that point we realized that the fish was old and they were sending it out in sauce to cover that up. We also ordered the steak teriyaki meal minus the sauce for one of our kids. I verified with the server that they could do this and they said they could. He ended up bringing out chicken instead and said that the only steak they do is beef bulgogi which is pre-marinated. They took 10% off our bill which was less than the $50 in messed up food we got out of our $150 meal. Fifteen dollars off after all of the mistakes is not going to have me coming back. The willingness to try to mask old fish with sauce to get rid of it just goes to show that quality isn't a priority and to change the story on menu items after you've already told a customer something is shady. When interrupted someone they just says to wait 20 more minutes but didn't even check that my order was in. After 20 minutes I find out that my order was not even placed and now to had to wait another 35-an hour for my food. They didn't try to accommodate my order or do anything about the situation. I'm torn on this one because the sushi was good but the ramen had a weird taste. I think it was actual bone broth because it had a marrow taste with butter but it just didn't sit well with me. Nothing I've ever tasted in a restaurant had this flavor and it wasn't something pleasant but also not off-putting enough to not eat it. I had a belly ache right after I ate my food. That's why I give it 3 stars . The atmosphere here is very weird. They have many fish tanks lining the place but the tanks are 3/4 full, no aeration (bubbles) and the fish look miserably bored. Before today I didn't even know fish could look bored but these fish just look pathetic. The bathroom has a full on bedroom dresser in it with two bar chairs lined up next to it. I just don't understand the utility of these items in a bathroom meant for a single person to use at a time. It like the two chairs are there for people to wait, and watch you use the bathroom? This place had so many pros and cons for me. Pros: -The sushi is incredible here. This is definitely an awesome place to go if you love sushi and are looking for a good roll. I highly suggest Umiya for the sushi. -The kids meals here are so big and full of lots of choices for littles, which is awesome because kiddos get easily distracted and bored with food in general. -The hospitality here is awesome here. You can't beat Japanese hospitality and how polite and courteous they are toward their patrons. Cons: -Along with the kids meal, we got our little an Apple juice, which is usually included with kids meals. Here try charged $3 for Apple juice. -The ramen wasn't our favorite. We felt like the broth wasn't as creamy, rich, and flavorful as other ramens that we have had. We were also disappointed with the noodles, which seemed to be just like the ramen packets you can buy in the grocery store for 50 cents. I'm so sad about my experience here. Their menu is great and most reviews here are pretty good... but I was beyond disappointed. I don't know why some sushi places use nori that is hard to chew through, but it was so bad I actually googled "Why is my nori chewy?" while at the restaurant to attempt to find an answer. Google tells me they are using cheap Nori, or it's old, either way YUCK! I ended up having to pull apart my sushi rolls in order to eat around the bad nori. Curious about trying sushi from Umiya, we ordered takeout late Sunday evening. Caterpillar, Philadelphia, Rainbow, Spicy Tuna, and Shrimp Tempura Rolls. So good! We were very pleased with the balance of rice to fish and everything else. For the shrimp tempura, I would have preferred not to have any mayo based sauce. I thought it was just going to have eel sauce as stated on their website menu. Later I noticed through their Cedar Park's Yelp photos that their restaurant menu says it would have 3 sauces.
