I am going to give this place 5 stars despite a couple issues. I think they are explainable or misunderstandings and I will give them the benefit of the doubt. You would hardly be able to tell this place is open because the now open sign is tiny and easy to miss. But it most definitely is open and worth your time. This is the second or third all you can eat sushi place I have tried and it's easily the best. Let me say first I don't really go in for the sushi but I dine at sushi places with people who do. I like the hibachi, teriyaki and rice meals and all you can eat I get more than enough. And it was all delicious. The hibachi and teriyaki meals do not come with rice though so I would recommend ordering a fried rice item along with them and mixing them together. It was wonderful. I did that over and over. Everyone who ate sushi raved about it. Portions were generous as well. A couple of the issues right now seems to come down to short staffing. As you walk in on the door there is a sign hiring for numerous positions. This may have led to our waitress being a bit overwhelmed as a couple of times she got orders wrong or missed, and there were times food was slow to arrive. Also I had sweet tea and she did not inform us refills were not free. We found out on the check and had to ask. I don't know if that is an oversight or will change but it seems odd they would charge for each tea. Overall though I will definitely be back. This place was really good. read more

The opening of Umiya was a waiting tale for me. I drove by for months waiting for this restaurant to open. I mean, all you can eat sushi...?! Who's not up for that?! So, when it opened, I was really eager to try their food. But I was slightly disappointed. The "All You Can Eat" option was almost $20 for lunch. So it became a non-option. Also, it came with a warning that any leftovers would be charged "a La carte". Really?!?! Why?! I guess so that people didn't over order, but, honestly, $19.99 was already being charged, and then, more?! Instead, I opted for their any 3 rolls, which I felt was a better option. I ordered the crawfish roll, a salmon or tuna roll and one of the shrimp tempuras. It also came with a miso soup. The meal was tasty, but I felt the tuna or salmon was slightly mushy, and the portions were small. Our service too was a tad on the slow side, but as is the current situation with many places, hiring help has been difficult. My take on Umiya is the sushi is ok, service needs to work out some kinks, and prices for lunch on their 2 and 3 rolls were good. I wasn't impressed with the $19.99 all you can eat lunch, not sure about dinner, but some may find it a deal. read more

Im gonna start off by saying I'm not some overly harsh critic of any food establishment. I get and respect the reality that is the food industry and I get some days are better than others. With that being said, the food was great, the sushi was wonderful, I got the Cowboy and Lexington Roll. My wife got the California roll. My biggest problem and the ONLY reason I gave it 2 stars was I FELT as though the service was severely lacking, again I understand there are good days and bad, but when they drop off the food they're barely putting it on the edge of the table and we don't even know what the roll is, they all speak at like 2% volume and nothing just felt genuine. My grievance is, if you're looking for a restaurant where the staff and friendly and knowledgeable about customer service, this is not the place for you. The first time we came our waiter sat at our table for 20 minutes talking about his life story- which no problem we are chatty and my fiancé is so friendly. It was just so uncomfortable, the second trip was much the same, just an overall awkwardness. As someone who's autistic and has a difficult time in social interaction, I get it. We decided to switch to calling off dining in, but giving their take out a chance. Epic mistake. Every time I walk in to pick up my order, nobody greets me, nobody says hey, hi, what can I get you? I was ignored entirely, until they started yelling order names for uber eats drivers. Last night was my fiancés birthday and after a long trip to the beach, we decided a late night eat would be sushi since we are right down the street. We were missing part of our order, they asked us to come back and when I said I couldn't, they offered no refund, and said we could get $5 off the next order. The interior was quite spacious and looks as though it could have been a wing bar in another life. The lunch menu had nigiri and rolls and traditional Japanese appetizers. The difference between this menu and the dinner is the lack of sashimi you can order. The nigiri was alright, as the only one with flavor was Salmon and the rice kept falling apart. The tempura rolls were soggier compared to other ones I've had and nothing really stood out. Our server was super nice but because of the craziness of that day's lunch hour, there were several moments where we were waiting quite awhile for our order to come out. The one downfall, which I see with many sushi places, is the type of rolls. Like why does every roll have avocado, cream cheese or some other bullshit in it to make it Americanized. Let me start by saying Ivan is a wonderful waiter. I would never have expected such great service in a restaurant like this. Thanks for your service, Ivan! (We also tipped him very well for his efforts) That said, this is the worst sushi experience. I have had in 40 years of eating sushi. The pink lady roll was actually OK. However, the sashimi left a great deal to be desired, and was not even cold when it was served. The Poké appetizer was downright disgusting and I had to send it back. I expect it's what gave me food poisoning. Within two hours of ingesting food at this restaurant, I started getting wild stomach cramps and ended up, emptying the contents of my stomach in less than one second. The cramps continued for several hours, as did the evacuation of my bowels. One of my best friends didn't make it much longer than I did before he had similar issues. I have eaten sushi in wonderful restaurants, not so good restaurants , grocery stores, and even gas stations. There have been very few times I did not eat a dish and I can't think of a time I ever returned a dish before my visit here. Not once did I ever have a negative physiological reaction until I tried eating here. The floors were slick with grease (more so than kitchens I worked in when I was in college. As a sidenote, this is not a good place for children to eat as there were two movies that played while we were eating, both were violent R rated movies... one where I had to turn away as someone put a gun to another's head and pulled the trigger. I will never return and suggest you try somewhere else if you are seeking sushi. read more

This place is the best bang for your buck! The all you can eat for sushi is only around $25, which is a lot cheaper than other places. I'm so used to having AYCE sushi for $50, so I thought the quality would lack, but that was not the case at all! Because they are so busy, sometimes the orders do get messed up. So I would repeat the order to the server after confirming. Depending on how busy they are, the sushi does take a while to come out. But overall, they have quick service. The appetizers come out faster and I would order a handful of them with the sushi! Some of my favorites are the fried calamari, spicy garlic edamame, Gyoza, Shrimp tempura, crab puff, and seaweed salad! Compared to other places, they do tend to put a little bit more rice in their nigiri, but it's expected since it's all you can eat! I love the salmon, white tuna, and eel nigiri. I love their green mountain roll and mango delight roll! They are both super refreshing. The green mountain roll is a little bit on the spicer side! Their desserts are also really good! They have a variety of different flavor icecreams: strawberry, vanilla, matcha, and chocolate! Third visit ... finally comfortable enough to write a review. Lunch is $20 and dinner is $30 as of spring 2023. Food is wonderful. Just be careful to finish what you order. If you order too much and waste then you get charged for the leftovers that you wasted. I never made that mistake so I don't know if they give you a to go box in that case. Hands down the biggest bang for your buck is lots of sashimi. The salmon is well executed here. Super buttery and cut well. Thick rectangles no miss shaped pieces. They have specialty rolls but I feel like I need to split them with 3 or more people otherwise I won't have room for variety. The vegetable tempura is a nice starter for me and I always get miso soup with each round. The hot broth helps to settle your stomach while eating. While you are feasting don't forget that they have desserts. I really liked the tempura banana and the tempura Oreos. I haven't tried the cheesecake and I think the sago and coconut milk have been discontinued. They have really great drink specials and a draft beer on a Friday night was only $4 (Kirin). Tonight's waiter was Jason. He seemed green but eager. I was very happy with his service he just lacked confidence. On my second visit we weren't happy with our waiter as the orders for other tables were being delivered to ours. The people delivering the food got frustrated and assured us that they would talk with our waiter. Given that I highly recommend that you ask for Jason. By far the most memorable experience thus far. Oh... I would skip the gyoza and some of the other deep fried foods. Except for the tempura. Most of the fried foods seemed like frozen food service items. The buffet is well worth the value. I can definitely understand the hype. They lunch buffet is $20, and there are plenty of options to choose from that will satisfy anyone's pallet. Loved the soup, tempura jalapeños, fried rice, and some of the cooked rolls. The tempura banana is also really yummy. The service is pretty good. It is definitely hard for the staff to keep up with all of the rotating orders, but I feel like they are giving a lot of effort.
