Went to the main DMV on my lunch break and had to leave because it was too busy...came here after work and man, was it night and day. Everyone here loves their job, and the atmosphere is just FUN... the whole staff cheered and woo-hoo'd a kid who just got his license. It was awesome. This business didn't help me at all. They even told me that I can't renew my drivers license and can't do anything because my green card was expired, but I presented to them a notice of action that my green card is on the process of being replaced. Because of Covid everything is kinda slow. So the one that was helping me is probably new or really didn't know what she was doing so she asked the woman next to her about what's going on and this woman jus kept saying NO and didn't even read what's on the paper and they said something about the state of Alaska law which is I think she made it up . I went to DMV and they said that they can give me a temporary DL so I can still go to work and drive until my green card shows up, OMG that was a relief . I understand that they can refuse service (UMV), but instead of referring me to DMV and telling me that they can't help me because it's out of their knowledge, they just said NO I can't do nothing about it I can't drive until my green card shows up. read more

The UMV is just an Express DMV. You can do many of the same things here that you can with the DMV - but the waiting time is cut in half. They do finger printing here along with notorizing documents and I believe they do drivers tests and can take care of license / real ID stuff like the DMV. Take a look at their website to see all the services they offer. The eemployees were kind, funny, & helpful. I had to get my finger prints taken and some documents notorized. It was pretty quick. For those looking to have finger prints taken - make sure to call in and schedule an appointment. They only do finger printing on certain days. read more

I have been using the Fairbanks UMV for everything and I register 35 vehicles with DMV. Today I went in to register my truck and was made to buy a set of license plates when I didn't need them. I was very upset and argued the point. I was going to buy personal plates as well, which I did on line. Now I have three sets of plates for the same vehicles and I still have to buy new tags for the personal plates. UMV charges an additional 30 per transaction so I will also save several thousands dollars a year, I will never use them again. read more
