Absolutely bring your own pain medication if you go for surgery. They will not give it to you even your doctor has ordered it and you beg. Additionally bring your own bottled water to drink. The drinking water is locked up and the nurses are unable to access it. My stay there was he most traumatic experience of my life. I did not feel safe and I think I prefer death over going back there again. read more

i was in the er for kidney stone complications and while they were very efficient, the nurse assigned to me was very blunt and rude. i was having concerns as they managed to catch an ovarian cyst. i was visibly anxious and very worried and they were already handing me discharge papers before i could ask questions about any precautions. i even traveled an extra 20 minutes to go to pardee. my review is only for the emergency department, the doctors i see outside of the er have been pleasant and i do receive adequate care. read more

And they had me make all of the appointments they really don't care about their job here it looks like. I dislike this hospital so much. My mom was brought to the ER at 11:45pm on a Thursday. She broke her arm and needed to be transferred to a skilled nursing/rehab. At 5 PM on Friday she was still in the ER waiting for transfer. I left to get dinner and 3 staff members took my number and noted in the file to call. I unfortunately fell asleep after eating my dinner....didn't matter they didn't call anyway. 9am on Sat I find she was transferred to the Ortho wing.....wait what? I thought she was going to a nursing facility...oh we didn't get an authorization code. No other info...he arm is dangling by her side. I go to the nurses station and ask....they get this straightened out. No one speaks about transfer...I talk to a nurse she tells me case worker should have spoken to us....she will probably be moved first thing Monday morning. So we wait all weekend...continually having to ask for her meds. Monday morning...they tell my mom at 730AM that she's transferring early. She calls I come to hospital...at 11AM...I still haven't seen anyone and she's worked her arm out of the sling....I'm beyond annoyed read more

After taking a fall into a large boulder, and being fished out of a river, i was brought by ambulance to Pardee. I spent 7 hours in the waiting room of the E.R. before being seen, even bled all over a wheel chair that they proceeded to put someone else in after i stepped outside. 9 hours later, 15 staples in a 4 inch gash. And thankfully no cracked skull or brain bleed i was finally out. 4 others left the E.R. that night withourlt receiving care, including an elderly woman who was also brought by ambulance. The board of directors should be ashamed. But at least they spam the bills to you promptly. read more

This is based on coming to the outpatient hospital for pre-op and surgery in March and coming for current surgery I will have soon. Everyone was so nice and friendly, very caring for your comfort before surgery and after. I had to come before my last surgery in March for a covid test and the girl who does them was very gentle. I didn't mind it at all. This time I had her again I was very glad. In march I have to say I had great care. I don't understand the one stars because compared to any hospital I've ever been in this is one of the best. The stay over night went well, the nurses all helped and didn't make you wait long before they came to the room. Over all I have to say everyone dreads having surgery and then staying but this place has a caring staff, I actually had no complaints. I will update again after my next surgery in just a few days. I had an amputation of a toe due to a burn. It did not go well. Surgeon kept assuring me everything looked fine for 6 weeks of follow up. When it started to smell i told him i wanted a second opinion so he sent me to wound care. They immediately sent me to the ER. When i got there i told them their wound care had sent me over for emergency surgery. When admitting me they asked if i wanted anything for the pain. I asked for some latocaine because wound care had put it on and it did bring relief. He said no, the surgeon might want to see it. A little while later he did bring in a needle and says i got you some diladin, lowest dose. It really dig bring relief i didn't know was possible. Diabetics don't feel pain like others. Neuropathy is sharp, an infection is more of a pressure, not to mention at this point it was twice it's size. It is an open wound. 5 hours later, admitted in the hospital, I asked the nurse how long that stuff last because i was starting to feel it. She said about 4 hours. I will see what i can do. Over to MRi. The tech bumps my toe around at this point. No support inside for the rotting pinky toe. I have a sock on because the odder is so bad. Once we got back, I asked a few more times from the nurses for just some latocaine topical or some aspirin even. Rachel was my nurse, brand new, and the ward nurse had stepped in a few times at Rachels request. I kept getting the answer "I'll ask". Then after Rachel didn't return for a while i rang the desk., "I'll tell the next shift's nurse". I walk up and see the head nurse. "I'll ask". I sat in the lobby across from their station for ten minutes so they knew i wasn't just going away. I finally went back and got dressed. After walking out to go buy some over the counter pain reliever i sat in the ER to be readmitted. 6 people went before me that came in after me. 2-1/2 hours later, I finally went home. I couldn't understand how nurses could have so little compassion. Then i found out. 8 am go back to ER. The doctor openly took full responsibility saying he wrote in my chart dilaudid upon request. I pointed out he wasn't at fault at all. The nurses didn't lack empathy. I never took my socks off in front of the nurses. Not one of them looked at my chart and seen the extent of my injury nor the note about my pain management. Not a lack of empathy. Even the head nurse of the ward said I'll ask. It was in my chart the whole time. I can wrap my mind around incompetence. I can sleep at night not losing faith in all humanity. It really did keep me awake all night. Thank God for the one competent person that cared enough to tell me to run! They are butchers! The few actual professionals involved in their system , hired because of competency, not just for bedside manners or diversity protocols or just got in the field because it pays well, don't know where to send patients within their organization so they just give you an uncomfortable stare and stammering about you finding a surgeon. As the head nurse was chasing after me while i was leaving for pain meds, she was asking me to sign a form that i was leaving against doctors orders. The way I see it she disobeyed his orders before I did causing me to leave. She didn't even offer me an aspirin. I am fighting now to make sure my insurance isn't charge 3 emergency room visits. Remember you are in charge of your own care. Bring some pain relievers just in case and don't let the ER take them from you. The ER was actually accommodating for pain but they have no idea what goes on once you're admitted. read more

I had a Partial Nephrectomy to remove kidney cancer on Nov 12, Surgery went fine, but the after care was very bad from the night R.N (RON) barely saw him all night, took my blood pressure cuff off most of the night, was a hour late on my pain medicine. I was suppose to walk later that night, I told Ron that and he said it was to much trouble to unhook my compression socks! (LAZY) I haven't had anything to eat in two days, I missed my dinner at the hospital due to being in recovery @6:00 that evening no one offer anything to eat and I was feeling sick to my stomach! tv was no signal almost all night, I started crying I felt so alone after a 4 hour surgery and in such pain. I will never go back to that facility again nor recommend! read more

Yes, Pardee used to have a lower score and it really was a mediocre facility at one time. I'm not going to review the ER because that is a completely different issue. I've noticed that many are in the ER waiting room when they should have gone to urgent care or their own dr instead. Lately I had a cancer diagnosis and needed care quickly. I have to give applauds to every staff member I've come in contact with , from the outpatient center to MRIs, bone & heart scans, other scans & tests done there to the radiology center, and especially the Cancer Center. Every staff member has been comforting, caring, thoughtful and helpful. The medical care, beyond compare. I'm aware of the difference between now and just a few years ago. I've used Pardee since the 70s when I moved here. So I do understand the lower scores from the past. But they have changed drastically. I'm very pleased with the care now. read more

Just waited in a uncomfortable waiting area, had several people that were not trauma patients come in and leave seeing a doctor while the waiting room waited. One person stated that she had been waiting 5 hours without any help. Discussed the wait and was told that it would be soon, never happened. Just an terrible experience. This is the bottom of the barrel medical care facility in Western North Carolina. I was in excruciating pain from an accident recently. Couldn't get Dr Pace in Asheville my Dr at this time to respond. I became so enraged that I left a nasty message on his machine. Dr. Pace then contacted Pardee security and the police. Zach Mc Taggert head of security then slapped a no trespass order on me banning me from going on any Pardee property and banning me from going to any of my Dr. Appointments. I thought it was all about the hippocratic OATH " FIRST DO NO HARM". In my darkest hour I was in complete devastation. He said my message was uncalled for and that my health meant nothing to him. I took steps. I filed charges against Dr. Pace and the whole Pardee medical entity with the North Carolina Medical board. I then found Advent health and now im getting the best medical care ever. Zach Mc Taggerts tides are about to turn back around and I now have become his karma forever. What ever goes around and that's a fact. Have a new wonderful group of doctors and I'm thrilled. This is the most poorly operated hospital I have ever experienced. No one enforces the mask signs, we've waited for 10 1/2 hours in the ER and no one seems to have any idea when or if we will see a doctor. My husband, the patient, is suffering with pneumonia, was sent here by his doctor and still he waits. This place needs an administrator who knows how to lead! Warning for those of you that live in Henderson county, NC. Pardee has really changed since it became part of UNC Healthcare. If you owe anything to them now and can't get approved for their charity care, you have to make payment arrangements with Access One. With Access One, they give you two payment options: 1. A higher payment option that doesn't include interest 2. If you can't pay the higher option they give you a lower option with interest. There's no pay what you can anymore! I applied for and was denied charity care which I qualified once before (more than 2 years ago) under the same circumstances financially and with insurance. For those of us who are working class falling under the 35,000 income level, this is not okay! read more

The "I am the god/Dr" and "you'd better obey me" mindset is rampant at the Pardee pain center. Dr Lewis doesn't care that pain patients have to now visit every month instead of every 3 months. The extra money and inconvenience patients have to spend now is something he doesn't even care about. He and all the doctors there extort you. The reason : most of the departments such as cardiac, pain clinic etc appear to run this hospital. Two simple financial facts about how Pardee treats its patients: (1) If you see one of their associated doctors (most in Hendersonville), the doctor will charge a doctor's fee, and Pardee will charge you more than that amount again as a "facility" fee. I'm not talking about appointments in the hospital, or even in some kind of specialized facility. I'm talking about regular appointments in a regular office. Those of you who've lived here a long time may not realize you're being ripped off. I've never seen this anywhere else. In fact, for a while I saw a doctor inside UCLA's hospital and was still only charged for the doctor. I have no idea how Pardee finagled Blue Cross or Medicare into paying these fees, but they did. And I have no idea why local doctors participate in such a nasty practice. To me, it's hard to imagine anyone considering this to be ethical. (2) As medical costs go up, so do your insurance costs. You may not see it until it happens, but Medicare moves ever closer to bankruptcy. For those reasons and more, the ethical choice for Pardee would be to send you statements of your services and charges EVEN when your insurance covers them all, and without being asked. That's the only way for you to stay on top of what Pardee is doing to you and how much they're charging. Who knows, maybe that's why they don't send you statements. read more

If I could give a zero I would. This is the most ridiculous hospital in NC. They can have a completely empty ER and you come in with a sickness and you will be there 8 to 10 hours. Its like they enjoy having people in their lobby. My son has a heart condition and ran a fever of over 104 - normally any hospital that he has been to would rush him in and get the fever down to keep from causing any damage to his heart but not Pardee...they leave him in the lobby for almost two hours and then get angry at me when I call them out on it. Not one person in the lobby when he walked in at 7am and now it is 10 am and he still sits in the lobby - now with a room full of sick people. This hospital is called "killer Pardee" by the locals for a reason. read more

Care was excellent, but it took 7 hours to get out of the waiting room and be seen. My sister was literally moaning with belly pain (for 7 hours) but it appeared that they took patients to a room in the order they had arrived with no obvious triage. Once we did get back to a room our nurse said that one of their doctors had called in sick that morning, so they only had only one ER doctor all day. Evidently no back-up plan. Yikes. We arrived at 6:30pm and weren't seen until 1:15am. Waiting room staff was courteous but gave no info as to why we had to wait. ER staff was great. My wife and I have had several episodes of hospitalization since moving to Henderson County in 2006. Most of the early admissions were at Mission, BEFORE it was taken over by a large, for-profit corporation in TN. More recently, we've been using Pardee. Though they struggled with staffing issues during the COVID pandemic (as who did not?), we've experienced consistently excellent results from their orthopedic surgery services. On one occasion, my wife presented a problem they found hard to manage and was promptly transferred to a nearby trauma center, but the care she got at Pardee's ED during the hour she was there actually solved her problem before she got to the other facility. Pardee's association with UNC has progressively benefited their services, with obvious improvements from year to year in the quality of their medical staff. Their outpatient services seem quite adequate to me, as a retired physician. In particular, their staff have seemed uniformly warm and supportive, while remaining quite professional. I think Henderson County is fortunate to have these dedicated professionals available nearby. read more

I am a rehab patient at the Pardee rehab facility on Thompson Street. This is not a criticism of any of the therapists but rather a criticism of the (not) cleanliness of the shower room in the aquatic area. I have complained about it several times during the past couple of months. But nothing has been done. The area in the room behind the bench, the toilet, and the sink has not been cleaned and has an accumulation of dirt along the wall. The bench itself has an accumulation of dirt and hasn't been cleaned either. And the metal frame on the bench is in serious need of cleaning. This is unacceptable to me as a patient there. Especially now when cleanliness is so important. At a time when we are going through this virus pandemic, I would think that all areas of this facility, including this area would be consistently thoroughly cleaned. It certainly doesn't make me and others feel comfortable in using these rooms. This situation is certainly not a good representation of Pardee Hospital, and something should be done about it. read more

My dad had really deep and sharp pain in his back, so hard that it was taking his breath and he was breathing heavily. We arrived at the hospital on 12/13/2021 at 9:20 and the nurse kept telling my dad to slow his breath down! Even thou I told her that he CANNOT do it bc his pain is too sharp. They told us to wait, we were waiting until 12:30 they did not have my dad BO NEDICINE and they did not took him to the doctor. Waiting 3 HOURS in an EMERGENCY ROOM is not ok. Impressive kind cordial folks who treat you like you are the most high VIP. The follow up regarding results was so unexpected. The team signed a thank you note again stating to contact for any assistance was outstanding. The doctors took the time to answer all the questions regarding the pending surgery and the nurses have checked twice to make sure we understand the crazy instructions and just to chat. PATIENTS BEWARE!!! There may have been a time where this was a functional hospital that cared about patients, but that time is gone. It's very clearly that the board of directors has switched their motive interest to monetary instead of caregiving. I could tell you every detail about my nightmare but I would just highlight the important ones so that you can have more information and deciding where to go. I had three emergency room visits, CT scans with and without contrast, an ultrasound and an MRI! I had all the specialists associated with pardee and all the radiologists submit their findings and not one of them got it right!!! They were chasing what they decided to be a rectal abscess. Over and over again they agreed on it. One surgeon was so sure of it he wanted to cut me open that exact same day! If I had let him do it it would have been a lawsuit for the hospital and a bunch of pain and agony for me. After giving them every opportunity of discovery I then had my colonoscopy. It showed me to have a tumor very low in my colon near the sphincter. The biopsy showed it was cancerous. If there had been one person before my colonoscopy who had known what they was doing someone could have found this out, after the fact I learned there was many flags that none of these professionals picked up on not even the fact that I had lost 40 pounds in 3 months! They're all so hell-bent on making all the money on all the procedures that they could as fast as possible that no one was looking for the reason I came to them in the first place. I kind of wished I'd let that surgeon cut into me and discover the ghosts they were chasing was a tumor and not an abscess so I could sue the whole bunch of them. Instead I am finally on target with getting some real help and want to warn everyone that when you walk through the doors of party hospital or anything associated with them you had better have all your ducks in a row and be well educated yourself before you let them touch you and whatever you do no matter how serious or minor your case is, get a second opinion because it could save your life. read more

dr kersten did knee surgery on me. he asked about pain medication and i told him what worked for me.he said i am not giving you that period.i explained i had at least 20 surgeries and i new what worked for me.he said no i am not giving you that period.the pain med he gave me did nothing pain.so i had to suffer after surgery because the prick refused correct pain meds.the nurse's were great. however the person that put me to sleep must have been practicing even though i told them i did not want to be practice on.pardee sucks but they want your bucks beware you have been warned read more

I visit Radiology quite often for unspecified reasons. The ladies who work there are great, seriously. If I remembered all their names I'd give them personal shout outs. They remember who I am, even if it's been 7 months since I last had to go in. They remember specific things about me, and can joke with me (to help me relax) like we are old friends. If you need a PICC line placed... Or whatever else they do in that little room back their, I absolutely highly recommend going to Pardee Radiology. Every radiologists I've had there have also been extremely great to work with, with the exception of one. I do really like having the radiology team on my side. They are wonderful. read more

I visited the Pardee Hospital Emergency room with extreme stomach pain. I am a veteran but the VA Hospital in Asheville could not see me. The ambulance crew asked me to choose a hospital and eventually, Pardee became available. A stroke of luck for me! The ambulance crew was from Lake Lure. I can't say enough about how well I was treated by them. I didn't record their names but I sure a little detective work can find out who they were. Around 11:00 am Saturday 3/14/20 from Lake Lure to Pardee. Dr. Stephanie Lee Trowbridge moved the intestine into its place. The result was the pain gone. I thought she did an outstanding job.
