I asked for the tip to not look as bulbous and to be moved in closer to my face and now it sticks out farther than before. I addressed my concerns with Dr. Finn, mentioned he forgot to smooth the side lumps on my bridge and flatten the bulge of cartilage on the right side of the tip and the shift in his attitude was disheartening. I then got told I was "chasing perfection"! He agreed to fix the bridge, but wanted to actually widen the tip. Absolutely not! I did/do have a big nose so widening the tip that was already too wide was not an option, especially if the bridge would have been smaller! Anyways, it's been six years and my nose looks even worse now. Nostrils flare more when I smile, a piece of cartilage is prolapsing into my left nostril, it's more crooked and droopy. I did have a complex case so I feel like if you have a simple fix or two, then he would do a good job. I just really didn't appreciate the attitude I got when discussing a revision and I feel like for 8K it should have looked much better!!!

We drove our daughter the three hours from the Wilmington area if NC to Chapel Hill for scheduled surgery. Her check in time was 5:30am for the first surgery of the day. The bad news was this meant we had to hit the road by 2 am. The good news meant that we missed the rush hour traffic in the Raleigh-Dufham area. The first part of the hospital experience started with parking. There is a large parking garage with ample parking directly across from the hospital. Inside the garage it has good signage directing you to the correct cat walk to get you right to the front door of the hospital. 5 stars Entering the main entrance to the hospital was very organized. You first encountered a table with face masks for the taking and signage reminding face masks are required in the facility. The same table had a large pump bottle with hand sanitizer for use. After face masks are applied the patient and transportation members walk straight forward to other great signage that advises the patient to take a number and watch the television screen on the wall for their number to appear. This area had plentiful seating that was spread throughout the area so there was space among the groups of patients. 5 stars When the number appeared on the screen it advised the patient which registration booth to go to. You could tell this was a large capacity facility by the number of registration booths they had running at one time. Our daughter went and completed her registration without much difficulty as much of the information was taken prior to the day if surgery. It was mostly showing id, insurance card, and signing paperwork. At the end of the registration she was given a paper map with directions of how to get to the surgery location. She was also given paperwork to hand to the check in location. 5 stars After following the directions and hiking thru the hospital we easily located the surgery check in location. Once again this process was very organized so they could handle the massive number of patients seen. Apparently there are eleven surgical rooms that are routinely being used at any one time. After turning in the registration paperwork our daughter was given a paper to hand off to us. On one side it had a number assigned uniquely to her and the opposite side had a color system so you could follow your patient and see what stage of the surgical process they were in. As family we were instructed to find seats in this waiting area and watch the screen on the wall that would post our daughter's unique number and be shaded with the color coating system. We were also advised that during the prep time one person could go into the prep area and be with her. I did this when advised she was in the stage that a member could be with her. 5 stars In the prep area there was a white board that contained her name, current vitals, and the surgical team members that would be checking in with her. After each person made their contact the nurse in charge of her particular case would x off that the step was completed. Example, the surgical nurse, the anesthesiologist, the surgeon, etc. Once the seven or eight people were checked off she was advised she was ready to have surgery. 5 stars I proceeded out to the waiting room and joined my husband. Whoever came up with the color coded system was a genius. It was very reassuring to follow our daughter through the stages of surgery and recovery. At the end the surgeon and his resident located us in the waiting area and informed us about the surgery and what to expect afterwards. They were very thorough but easy to understand. I could understand why our daughter liked this doctor. 5 stars After this step we were both allowed to join our daughter until she was released. Due to the length of time in this process it was now lunch time so the staffing was minimal. It took a fair amount of time for the person to show up with the wheelchair to take her to the front door. The gentleman was very polite and stopped with our daughter at the pharmacy for her prescriptions. At this point my husband went to the garage to retrieve our vehicle and drive up to the front door to load our daughter and myself. After loading up we were ready to hit the road for the long trip back to her house. 5 stars Thanks for providing such a good experience for such a specialized procedure. I've been a patient at Carolina Ophthalmology for the last several years (see my separate review of…read moretheir office). And I've been a glasses-wearer since, well, third grade. Growing up, I stubbornly refused to sport them and would only put them on when trying to read the clock -- or the chalkboard. (It's a wonder I graduated, really.) I was finally able to get contacts in high school (oh, happy day that was). But the worry of losing one in gym or remembering to pack eye solution for vacation and so on was always an annoyance. I wanted to have LASIK but it just really wasn't a financial reality until recently. Even better, the office was running a special that came to $1,000 off or so. I know you may be thinking: discount eye surgery? Eep! I've always been a patient of Dr. Scroggs and so when I had my initial consultation, it was my first meeting with Dr. Bryan -- the LASIK surgeon. I felt like I was in very good hands the whole time. Pam first talked to me about the procedure and then showed me a video. I had my eyes examined and a cornea scan done, plus a sit-down Q&A with the doctor, and was declared a good candidate for the procedure. The worst part of the whole thing has to be a tie between being forced to wear my old-prescription eye glasses for a month leading up to the surgery (not a vanity thing, but a practical thing -- I haven't kickboxed since March!) and having slips of paper put in my eyes for five minutes to test tear reaction. Yes, it's as uncomfortable as it sounds. Anyway, the good news is since :that's: the worst part -- the day-of is really easy, breezy! Be ready for some final eye scans, a shower cap and some Valium. Yes, you'll be awake in the OR (but it's only 40 seconds each eye. And was basically painless. Dr. Bryan talked to me the entire time, let me know what was coming next and encouraged me through the parts that might have been a little scary otherwise. Plus they give you a stuffed animal to squeeze! -- I remember in my valium-ed state being very disappointed that I didn't get to keep that 'gator). But I did get thorough post-op instructions and a travel kit full of eye drops. The doctor called me at 5pm the same day to check on how I was doing. And though it's only been 24 hours since, I can see better than I ever have. Had a follow-up today, and still no stuffed gator, but I did get a tee that reads: Guess what I'm not wearing? How cute -- and dare I say... yelpy. ps) I have some $200 coupons for LASIK that are good through the end of June. PM me if you're interested. If you've ever thought about having the surgery done, I swear, you won't be disappointed!

I am highly satisfied about my experience with Dr. Shadduck and EmergeOrtho!…read more Six weeks ago Dr. Shadduck operated on me to repair a small hernia on the right side of my lower abdomen, called an inguinal hernia. About 15 years ago I had a similar hernia repair on the left lower abdomen (which was done at UNC) and therefore I have some comparative experience. Before choosing Dr. Shadduck I also saw another surgeon (at one of the big medical facilities) for an opinion. Below I'll go through the numerous things that I liked about Dr. Shadduck and EmergOrtho: 1) Getting an appointment for an initial assessment was straightforward and easy. I really liked not having to navigate a big institutional medical organization (i.e. - UNC & Duke) when calling on the phone. 2) Going to this initial appointment with Dr. Shadduck was again much easier at the EmergeOrtho location than the huge parking decks at UNC/Duke. When I arrived on time, the receptionists were great . . very friendly and efficient. The waiting area was not crowded and I only had a short wait before getting into the exam room. 3) Compared to the first surgeon I had seen for an assessment I found Dr. Shadduck was MUCH more through in his exam. The first surgeon I saw appeared to only take a superficial look at the hernia and they also had a student doctor in the room watching. By contrast, Dr. Shadduck took a good deal of time to assess the hernia both with me standing and also lying down (not done by the first surgeon). I feel like he really did a very complete assessment of my condition. 4) He said that my hernia was small and it was not necessary that it be repaired at this time, however after learning that I spend about half of each year on a boat in remote regions of the Bahamas, he thought that this tipped the scales in favor of having the procedure . . . but he was not insistent or pushy with his opinion. 5) Something that I found quite remarkable when getting assessed by Dr. Shadduck was how exceedingly patient he was in explaining everything about the possible surgery and then gave me all the time I needed to ask questions. I find it rather rare when a physician is such a good listener. 6) Scheduling for the surgery was easy and it was performed at a 'hospital' right across the street from EmergeOrtho called "North Carolina Specialty Hospital". 7) The process of having the surgery went smoothly and I felt like all the staff (nurses, anesthesiologist, etc.) were excellent and everything went according to plan. 8) My recovery process seemed easier than the same surgery I had ~ 16 years prior. I was offered a prescription for opioid type pain relievers but ended up not needing them (Advil worked fine). 9) Two weeks post surgery I came back to see Dr Shadduck for a follow-up and everything was healing up as expected. Again, he was great in talking with me and answering all my questions. My only small complaint is that I had a fairly long wait to be seen (20 minutes waiting room & 35 exam room) but this is small potatoes relative to my overall experience. In summary, if you think you may need the kind of surgery that Dr. Shadduck offers I can HIGHLY recommend choosing him as your surgeon!

I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 14 years, and during the last ten or so I have had 4…read more experiences with UNC orthopaedics department, 2 joints fused, a multiple fracture and now my right hand almost completely rebuilt, all very professionally done and with excellent results. I have every confidence in them: my surgeon, Dr. Bynum, is extremely skilled and very pleasant to deal with. Having my thumb fused was a life-changer and when I show people my scars, they have to look for them! Now, he has given me back the use of my dominant hand. After 3 weeks, it is already more usable than before. My fingers are amazingly straight! The supporting staff are pleasant and attentive and their occupational therapist, Sue Myers, really knows her stuff and is competently guiding my recovery.

He kept saying you need rods in your back and he wouldn't even consider anything else. When I kept telling him no he flounced out of the room like a child. Dr. Carrol also was quite perturbed and unhappy with me because I told him the first shot in my back he ordered did not help. He wanted to argue about it. I started seeing Dr. Musante who was excellent! Doctor Musante told me what my MRI said about my having scoliosis and two ruptured discs in my lower back and a pinched nerve. Dr. Carrol didn't think I had a right to know and was too occupied with wanting to cut my back open. I wanted a second opinion and was referred to Dr. Musante who was honest and compassionate with me. I would not recommend Dr. Carrol to anyone. Dr. Musante and Dr. Arcedo are wonderful. They listen and do their best to help you and have a lot of compassion.
