The doctors and PAs aren't the problem--they're professional and capable. It's the system they operate within. It's profit-driven, demands unnecessary follow-ups, uses platforms that constantly malfunction, and if you find a doctor you like, don't get attached. They leave. Here's what pushed me over the edge: I submitted a prescription refill request a week ago, a few days before I ran out. I've sent multiple messages and left voicemails. When I finally reached someone today, I got attitude and zero accountability. My provider had been out for over a week with no coverage plan. Nobody was monitoring her messages or prescription requests. No one communicated this. My voicemails went unreturned. When I called to ask what was happening, I was told: "I'm not responsible for anyone else. It's not my problem." That's Avance Care in a nutshell.

Referrals are useless. System is broken. People in their referral office don't read chart or follow…read moreup with referrals. I had to make my own most of the time. Doctor seems preoccupied and/or tied to her laptop instead of really listening to me.

This has been the worst experience I've had with UNC ever and I have seen many doctors and nurses through UNC. They do not read anything that is written inside MyChart nor do they respond to pharmacy requests to change a medication which is a medication that I rely on for my life. I do not recommend anyone adding this practice to their health care. There are other UNC practices throughout the triangle that are top notch and are much better than this one. I will be searching for another UNC practice soon.

Stop using so many PA's to do the work of doctors. These PAs are attempting MD diagnosing first contact primary care patients and allowed to hand out medication and they don't have nearly the qualifications of doctors . A PA can get a four-year undergraduate degree than a two-year masters in any science and about 2000 clinical hours. A doctor must have undergraduate to get to the MCAT get into medical school, do a residency, internship and I'm thinking 15,000 hours of clinical so why are PA's able to do the same work as doctors?? Do you think you might get many missed or wrong diagnoses? PA O'Connor and Unc handled a situation with me very unprofessionally...caused me great stress as a patient. I asked to see a doctor not a PA fir primary and for a referral to a psychiatrist not a social worker ...several times and was told I couldn't on first case or ignored on second. Instead O'Connor proceeded to do a serious diagnosis while massively offending me and still not listening. I do use an alias on yelp.

She examined me and patiently gave me plenty of time to ask questions. I already knew what my problem was, as it had been diagnosed decades ago. I'd been "prescribed" an OTC medication which helped a little, but didn't prevent my pain (and other issues) from occuring on a daily basis. I saw 3 or 4 Gastroenterologists over the years & they always recommended the same medicine. Megha asked me if I'd like to try a prescription medicine, which she thought would be helpful, and I immediately told her "Yes!" Maybe I could finally get this pain & inconvenience under control! I have been taking the prescription medication for 2 weeks and it has completely changed my life for the better. I only wish that I'd seen her years ago! Everyone at the office was friendly and efficient. The office and exam rooms were very clean, as well. I was called back to see Megha as soon as I walked in the door--great time management, too! I would highly recommend Megha and this practice to everyone!

My doctor contacted this facility and when they contacted me I was in a meeting told them I would call them back. I need to get a colonoscopy. I have tried contacting this facility 12 times by phone (they never answer) and I have sent at least 3-5 emails asking politely to please get in touch with me. I have not heard back from them? For a doctor's office I find this very unprofessional and uncaring. I am going to drive over to their office and speak with their office manager. This is very frustrating and I wonder if I should even trust their services?

She is knowledgable about nutrition, which I greatly appreciate, and emphasizes self-care as an important part of preventative care plans. Dr. Forbes always takes the time to answer any questions I have about my care and the one time I needed a sick visit on short notice, getting one was no problem. She's got a no-nonsense bedside manner. I personally appreciate this, but not everyone will. Overall I would recommend Dr. Forbes as a primary care physician.

The patient portal was changed a few years ago to something much less usable than the prior portal and now, medical records must be requested from an outside company that takes at least a week to provide records (if they are even provided then, friends have had difficulty with the company insisting records were sent when they were not, and the company has abysmal reviews online) that has no ability to track status of a request, and that doesn't have a phone number on its website (wake told me their was a number there, they couldn't find it either, then gave directions to go through a series of clicks on their own website to get the number, and then finally gave me the number). Had the portal not changed, I would have been able to easily download what I needed. Instead Wake made the decision to go to this new system and I cannot even walk into the office and get records - if I walk in and make a request, I'll have to fill out a form that goes to a third party company to get the records. I was looking at establishing care in Raleigh again but I won't be returning. The providers were good but apparently admin does not care how difficult they make the process of managing the non clinical side of being a patient.

They implied that I was just going there to try and get opioids, which I never asked for or even wanted.On my last visit, I had less than 5 minutes with the doctor, and he basically told me there's nothing anyone can do, and gave me a paper recommending me to watch a documentary about losing weight and said that might motivate me to be healthier. He acted like if I lost weight it would fix all my problems. I asked him why he was telling me this, as I was a normal weight when I started having extreme pain, and not being able to move around caused me to gain weight. He basically told me to just try it because he didn't have any other suggestions. I felt very blown off, and even if he couldn't help me, he could have said it in a much better way and without implying losing weight would fix all my issues. Once I went to a different practice, they did find out what was wrong with me and give me a treatment plan that actually helped. I felt extremely disrespected and blown off by this practice and would not recommend it to anyone.

She is everything a primary care physician should be in that you should be able to talk to your doctor about your on-going health, not just when you get a cold, flu, or rash. These doctors are hard to find these days thanks to the awfulness of our healthcare system in general in churning out patients. It would seriously be worth a plane ticket once or twice a year just to see someone you trust with your well-being.

But the office staff are all over the shop: 3 visits, 3 snafus, with appointments mysteriously cancelled, confusion of one patient with another, doc was out of town, oops--he's gone all next week, too, etc, etc. Approach with caution. Do not hesitate to raise hell in order to get attention.
