I liked the providers at the practice, but moved and established care elsewhere. From an admin standpoint, it seems they are going out of their way to make the patient experience difficult. The patient portal was changed a few years ago to something much less usable than the prior portal and now, medical records must be requested from an outside company that takes at least a week to provide records (if they are even provided then, friends have had difficulty with the company insisting records were sent when they were not, and the company has abysmal reviews online) that has no ability to track status of a request, and that doesn't have a phone number on its website (wake told me their was a number there, they couldn't find it either, then gave directions to go through a series of clicks on their own website to get the number, and then finally gave me the number). Had the portal not changed, I would have been able to easily download what I needed. Instead Wake made the decision to go to this new system and I cannot even walk into the office and get records - if I walk in and make a request, I'll have to fill out a form that goes to a third party company to get the records. I was looking at establishing care in Raleigh again but I won't be returning. The providers were good but apparently admin does not care how difficult they make the process of managing the non clinical side of being a patient. read more

Wake Internal Medicine Consultants does not accept Medicare assignment, so the make you pay at the time of service, file the claim, and (theoretically) Medicare reimburses you with a check later. I saw my Dr. on April 21 for a mid-year exam, and they made me pay $129.12 at that appointment. But when they filed the insurance claim, they told Medicare and my Blue Cross supplementary insurer to reimburse them. So they collected twice! By July 17, my Medicare and Blue Cross statements showed the disbursement to Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, so I call Medicare and Blue Cross...both of them said the submitted claim indicated that Wake Internal Medicine should receive payment. I then contacted Wake Internal Medicine Consultants and spoke to Emily, who claimed that she looked at the claim and it did not indicate that payment should go to Wake Internal Medicine Consultants. But she agreed to refund what I'd paid at the time of the visit, and said it would be done ASAP. It's now August 1. I've heard nothing, haven't received the check...looks like I'm going to have to take legal measures to set this right. Sad, but after this I'm finding a different primary care practice. read more

I have been a patient in this practice for 8 years and have watched the patient care slowly deteriorate the more they grew. As of now, they have all but completely gotten away from a personal, human based approach. They try to use any number of technological methods to try and avoid ever speaking to you in person. Their phone system is automated as is their portal and online chat services. Good luck contacting a human. Additionally, they have begun hiring very young, inexperienced medical staff, who seem to be thinking about 4 or 5 tests they can run or medications they can put you on as soon as they see you. They are very vaccine driven and I have been told they believe the pandemic vaccines "saved the country". I'm sure they can't wait to see Moderna create some more they can give you. They forced their patients to arrive masked months after NC determined they were no longer necessary. All of this and on my most recent visit with a fatigue issue, never was I asked about my diet or daily exercise. They instead went directly to a heart rate monitor and because they did not properly calculate my max heart rate, recommended BP medication even though my BP was a low normal. I am new to this facility for about 4 months but all in all I have not been impressed. The wait times to talk with someone are close to one hour. Secondly, the care in my opinion is not very good. My physician is quite flippant and I have even been called hostile to which my husband got involved. Getting tests done is a hassle and getting results back can be a hassle. I won't even comment on triage after hours except just go to the ER or Urgent Care instead if needed. Healthcare is a racket now days wherever you go. Don't show up 5 mins late to your appointment with Dr. Takeddin or you will be no-showed. I work in a clinic, that is NOT standard policy, so the patient should certainly be notified of that difference, especially for a specialist. I've been a primary care patient of Wake Internal for over 10 years, never no-showed for an appointment once, but dared to check in 8 mins after my scheduled time with this endocrinologist, they refused to see me. I had left work to come to the appointment. Also, just this week, I was referred to an outside orthopedist for my ongoing knee issue that I had x-rays done for at Wake Internal. They did not deem it important for the Ortho to actually visualize my knee, as they were never sent and I had to get them done again, and will certainly be billed again. The excuse given is they cannot share them but need to copy them to a physical disk. I would have been more than happy to pick up a CD had I known this. Just a very inconsiderate way to handle things, in both instances. I don't know if the grass is greener elsewhere, but I'm leaving this practice. read more

I have been a patient of Wake Internal Medicine for over thirty years. I had a wonderful doctor who retired leaving me in the care of someone I trusted for years. WIM built a much larger facility and my care plummeted in the new venue. I guess bigger is not always better. Needless to say I find myself now searching for the care I deserve. My general practitioner is located here, so I visit this location several times a year for an annual physical and the occasional sinus infection. I'm pretty healthy. I find over the phone scheduling of appointments to be easy and efficient. It isn't hard to get in, especially if you're willing to see whoever is available. I've found nurse practitioners just as helpful as MDs for my typical stuff. Parking in their dedicated lot has never been an issue. Appointments typically run on time and medical assistants, nurses and doctors are professional and friendly. Be prepared to show your insurance card at every visit. You'll also need to step on the scale first thing. I wish they had a coat/purse hook available by the scale. You either have to drop it in the floor or be weighed wearing your coat and holding your purse. Speaking of weight. It would be awesome to see all of our health care providers practicing what they preach and maintaining a healthy body weight. Set the example--it's your professional duty! If you can love a lab, I love this one. There is rarely a wait. It has always been quick and painless. They aren't overly friendly, but get the task done. EKG staff are really friendly, but it's a weird set up where you wait and I'm never sure they know I'm even there until they come and find you. Was disappointed that Wake Internal Medicine is just like everywhere else--no shingles vaccine available. read more

I have been going there for quite a few years. I believe they need to focus on quality instead of quantity. The medical assistant used to obtain your vitals and update your medication list. That is fine. Now they let the medical assistant discuss when you had the last mammogram, bone density or what ever was done or needs to be done. That is the doctors job. Doctors you need to discuss patients medical history with them not the medical assistant. Additionally when patients have chronic conditions and have a physical they need to be physically examined by the doctor and not have to be prompted to examine the patient. Examine the patient is very important even when they have to see a specialist so that you will be on the same page as them . Our doctor said I have already seen it. Well look at it again for an update. Let's take good care of people and treat them they way we want to be treated. Slow down and focus on quality and the quantity will be there. It is difficult to get a sick appointment with your doctor. read more

The billing department here is so inept and poorly trained that I won't return. After a procedure I was billed over 1K. I called to inquire as to why I was billed since I knew my insurance covered the procedure. The lady I spoke with was genuinely confused as to why my insurance had denied the claim and seemed to have no idea what to do next- so they just decided to send me a big ol bill without any investigation on their part. It was really odd that they put me- me, as the patient -in charge of denial resolution. At a practice this size, wouldn't you assume they actually have a person in a Denial Resolution position? Be fully forewarned- this leg work will fall on you, the patient, when they make a mistake. I placed a quick call to BCBS and discovered that the Wake Internal Med billing department had used the wrong diagnosis code. I circled back to the Wake Internal billing department and shared this basic info that they themselves could have and should have discovered. I asked them to rebill using a correct code. I was told yes, they would. This was over a month ago. Yet I continue to receive bills and, as of today, received a written letter threatening me; stating I had never contacted their office and my access to medical care was suspended. I have screen shots to prove that I have contacted them over ten times using their texting system. I also had two phones calls with Stacy. This has been an exhausting experience and one that has quite literally given me heartburn. If you have any other option, give it the highest consideration. read more

Yep, I've been using Wake Internal Medicine for three years now and what can you say about your primary care physician? Overall I'm pretty happy with Wake Internal, my physician (Dr. Levin) is a great listener and has seen me through a myriad of treatments. The waiting room and exam rooms are ok, not super modern but functional. A lot of the specialty testing (blood, x-ray, EKG) are handled in the same building so you shouldn't have far to go if your treatment takes you in that direction. The nurses and admin staff have been fine for me and I've rarely had any issues with billing. In the end, your treatment will really depend on your Primary Care Physician but Wake Internal Medicine has done a pretty good job for this guy! read more

BYE BYE WIM! Tried to be seen for URI but told I have to go to Urgent Care. Made an appt at Urgent Care. Arrived 24 minutes ahead of appt and had to sit in car, in no shade, in 85 degree heat waiting. Paid copay. Checked link to see where I was in line and there was no one before me. Appt. time came and went. Thirty minutes past my appt (now there for a total of 54 minutes in the heat and sick) and called them to find out what is going on. Two walk-ins being seen, they'll get to me soon. But I have an appt! Why can't I come in? I don't have covid, I've tested negative twice. I finally left. After five years at this place, even forgiving them for misdiagnosing me for over a year with a chronic issue, I quit! Immediately found new UNC doctor who will see me immediately, in his office. I've had to leave when I couldn't stay any longer because I was waiting so long and they called those appointments "no shows". They have been my provider for 10 years and all is fine until recently. 2 months ago I had an appt. They never sent the labs, they will not call me back and they are not telling the truth (literally) about my prescriptions. I have had to physically go into the office 3 times to get any action on prescriptions. Most recently they literally lied. They said the prior authorization was approved. The next day they said it was rejected. I called the insurance company and it was never submitted. I am now forced to find a new doctors office. Beware!! Worst office ever!!!! read more

I always have a good experience here. Dr Israel has decades of experience in medicine and it shows. Even when he is out and I see other doctors they're always professional and courteous. The doctors always listen carefully to me and ask the right questions to help get to the bottom of any problem I bring to them. I also love having so many of the tests being able to be done in house. It's incredibly convenient and their website makes clinical and lab information readily available. I do wish they would develop a good app to make accessing data a bit easier and provide some telemedicine options but I'm perfectly happy with what they have today. Debbie on the telephone is absolutely TERRIFIC! She is too good for them and will give up on this practice at some point. Absolutely and ridiculously inefficient and unaccommodating. On one appointment, after we were done, the doctor said, "I'll be right back. Just need to document our visit. I'll be right back." I waited 30 minutes and walked out to the receptionist who chastised me for leaving the room. Told her of the issue and she said "Wait in the room and I'll ask the doctor to see you right away. Waited ANOTHER 25 minutes and no doctor! I just walked out. Trying to communicate with Erin makes me think she should be a dentist. Like pulling teeth! Getting orders to the lab for tests takes weeks, and that is only because of multiple calls, never a single call back, and hours of follow up on my part. I could go on... but I won't. He's extremely knowledgeable proactive about my health - I'm well taken care of and trust his judgment. I started seeing Dr. Hira in October 2017, after I switched from a different doctor within the GI practice. She is caring, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. In 2 visits, my problem improved greatly after going off a medicine I had been taking for years that was causing my problems. The other physician in that practice Dr. Bulent Ender, I had been going to for years, never looked at medications I was taking to see if they could be aggravating my issues. Instead he gave me steroids, powders and other rx's over the years that never really helped. I've seen doctors in this practice twice. I'll never go back. This practice is an administrative nightmare. Its no wonder that our nation's medical costs are out of control. Wake Internal Medicine could be a case study of everything wrong with medicine in America. The front end process for this practice is average. They are efficient in making appointments. However, they fail to contact you with reminders the day before. They are helpful though in communicating costing information upfront for those of you with high deductible coverage. Unfortunately, you can't rely on their info. In one case, what they communicated to me for lab fees turned out to be 30% of what they actually charged. Their phone system is typical for a medical practice - absolutely miserable. They make you wait through long, bloated messages and give little in the way of assistance in helping to locate the proper person. Unless you know the exact name and extension of the person you need to contact, don't waste your time with their phone system. And you're not going to get much help from their receptionist either. She was clueless on the most basic of inquiries as to the proper person to speak with. The Doctors get a mixed review. One I saw was good. One was terrible. In one instance I was in the middle of a medical exam and I was asked to hold on a minute and the Doctor would be right back. I waited for 45 minutes. He never returned. I think he had to attend to something else, and simply forgot about me. I just walked out. In the other case, the Doctor was excellent. So, mixed results. Where this practice fails miserably is on the back end. Their billing systems are stone age. They were capable of producing an account statement prior to making payment, but incapable of producing the same statement, post payment. I needed separate invoices for two separate charges. They couldn't provide separate invoices. It was simply ridiculous. Their systems are probably capable, but I suspect their billing people were poorly trained. And the IT person that I met was just plain arrogant and of zero help. I'm still scratching my head over how they communicate lab results. They made a big deal out of asking whether I would be interested in getting results via email. Yes, I was absolutely interested in using technology to communicate with my health provider. What happened? I got a form letter in snail mail. And they charged an arm and a leg for that communication. Again, these folks are stone age in their administration. I wouldn't be surprised if they scratched our medical files in dried sheep skin using quills and ink wells. The aspect that really grated on me though was just how very overstaffed this practice is. Everywhere I looked there were administrative people, just sitting around doing little. The billing office was staffed with 5 people. And little work was getting done. Secretaries and clerks were everywhere, and few looked to be doing any work. Why are our medical costs so high? Well, a large part of the reason lies in Medical Practices like Wake Internal Medicine ... overstaffed, inefficient, sorry IT systems, terrible phone system, poorly trained and unhelpful people. If you have alternatives to Wake Internal Medicine, I'd give those significantly higher consideration. read more

Ask for an appointment with a doctor and when I arrived found out that my appointment was with a PA. before being seen I ask to speak with practice manager who told me I must not have made it clear that I wanted to not see a PA. I went to see Dr. Jariwala today at the recommendation of another doctor. The purpose of the appointment today was to establish myself as a patient and to begin to answer questions about a current illness that has yet to be formally diagnosed. The only person who was helpful in this entire visit was the front receptionist. She was lovely and calm and helpful. Dr. Jariwala and his team were rude, dismissive and completely wasted my time. He refused to run any tests because he felt they were "redundant", he referred me to a specialist who would only be able to help to a certain extent however was not specific with which practice he was referring me to and provided me NO contact information for that practice. I left his office confused and in pain. I then called his office to request assistance with identifying the referral practice and their contact information. Once again the doctor and his team were not available and despite my efforts have not called me back. I will NOT be seeing Dr. Jariwala in the future. It's a shame. I heard the doctors in this practice were wonderful and helpful and supportive. read more

I have seen several docs through this practice. they have all been great. Dr. hughes was worth the horrendous staff. She is the best! But now I am trying to see a GI doc. He was very nice but he scared the hell out of me that a procedure needed to be done ASAP. Apparently their ASAP is different than mine. Over a month and a half out they are scheduling me! Then he sent me for bloodworm downstairs. I got there 15 mins before their posted closing time. The VERY rude tech said no she wouldn't do it because it was too close to closing time! So I had to make a 30 min trip back today for a bloodraw which took exactly 3 minutes. Their office/admin staff SUCKS. Too bad because most of the docs are pretty good. I think it is a function of the fact that they now do at least 5-6 deferent specialities. The practice has become way too big for personalized service. Investigate elsewhere first! read more

Dr. Heestand and her nurse Emma are both wonderful! After suffering through several bad experiences with local doctors over the past few years, I'm so happy to have found a doctor who listens, cares, and is easy to communicate with (the online portal has been the best thing for me and is so easy to use to relay quick messages to your doctor). Their lab and imaging departments are located just downstairs and it seems I've always gotten my results quickly.
