I woke up last week feeling claustrophobic. I had to get out of the city. I called my friend and asked her if she wanted to get the hell out of town for a bit. She said, "yeah, if I can wear my pajamas." Done. We drove aimlessly east for awhile until I remembered that I had a friend that worked at Uncle Buck's. I'd never been there, but I'd heard that it was pretty sweet. How could a dance barn not be sweet? I called and got directions to the stable. An hour later we crept past a trailer-settlement of gawking locals until we reached our destination. We arrived the day after the last music event of the year. Apparently The Rarely Heard, a bluegrass band that's famous among bluegrass fans, had played the night before. A showing of 200 hundred people is pretty amazing for a dance barn in the middle of nowhere. My friend was scrubbing and cleaning, as she had been for hours, trying to recover from the previous night's show. We bummed around the place, checking out the horses and meeting the tour guides. I hung out with Uncle Buck for awhile until the horses were ready. Uncle Buck was relaxed and amiable, talking mainly about past shows and bands we were both into. He told us to check out Moonville tunnel on our way out, just past the second steel bridge heading south. It's worth seeing. You can find more info here: www.forgottenoh.com/moonville.html Uncle Buck's has a full bar, an outdoor patio/beer garden, a stable, and a stage on a sprawling plot in the middle of Zaleski Forest. Between Zaleski, Lake Hope, and Uncle Buck's, you can make a pretty sweet day trip an hour and half outside of Columbus. The horse rides cost $25 for an hour trip. It's worth the cost if you like horses.

Our time at Uncle Buck's was eventful but exciting! At first we weren't sure what we had gotten into, but afterwards we were glad we did it. When you plan on riding here, bring bug spray because the trail is in the woods. Our trail guide, Lydia, was great and handled our 6 person group gracefully. It was super muddy on the one hour trail due to rain and one of the horses got stuck in a hole and my family member fell off. Lydia helped her get back on, even after getting stepped on by the horse. All of the ladies at the barn were great! Definitely recommend this place! They are very experienced and know their horses very well!

such a great experience! We did the Moonville Tunnel Horseback Riding, and our guide was fantastic. I rode Knight, such a well behaved and properly trained horse. Would definitely recommend

Hospitality is second to none! If you want to get away for a few hours and enjoy the national forest this is the way to do it.

The stable hands really knew the horses temperaments and did a nice job of matching the horse to the rider.

Rachel A waited on us and took time to find out what was gluten free for me. She was efficient, friendly, and got everything right! We got the homemade chips appetizer. One of the best things I've tried. Hubs got a burger and mac & cheese that he said was wonderful. I got the pulled pork with slaw and corn pudding. Everything was so good. We drive this route often and need to make this a regular stop.

He got the Brisket and quarter chicken $26 with skillet green beans and smoke house spuds with $2.50 up charge for cheese and bacon. Overall everything was good. The pork ribeyes were cooked perfectly but the sweet bourbon glazed wasn't much more than a teriyaki sauce and very salty. They were out of the quarter chicken so they substituted it with 2 wings which I didn't think was an even trade. The smoke house spuds were good but the bacon was chewy. The ambience was nice, the waiter was very friendly and attentive. Even though for the most part the food was good I don't think it justified the prices.
