Excellent food, exactly the BBQ what you want to find in a small town restaurant. I love the atmosphere as you walk in, small dinning area, clean and very friendly staff. I had the ribs, good flavor, the right amount of sauce and even though the meat was perfectly attached to the bones, it melted as soon as I bited, definitely will order them again. The mac&cheese was fine, the chili was amazing and the corn bread was good. Highly recommend if visiting or just driving through Culpeper

Brisket sandwich with fries. Moist and tender brisket!! You'll love it. My hubby ordered this. I had the pulled chicken sandwich

Food and service is fantastic. If you come to CULPEPER, VA you must visit this family restaurant. We had brisket sandwich and pulled chicken sandwich. I had the fried potatoes w/onions as a side. AMAZING FOOD!! I'd come here everyday.

Loaded nachos with brisket, regular size (full pound)

Best place to get food after a game at the culpeper sports complex. Amazing food, friendly wait staff, and great small town atmosphere. The food was so good and very reasonably priced.

I will preface by saying I live in Texas and I have had a lot of really really good and well known barbecue. Aka I have high standards! We started with the fried pickles which were pretty solid. And then for dinner shared the family meal with 3 meats between 3 of us. It was a decent amount of food but nothing was spectacular. The okra was dry and over cooked. The sausage was lack luster, the pulled pork was boring and dry and the ribs were nothing special either sadly. The staff was also very slow to help us with anything and they were not busy. After a long day of hiking it was a bummer to have a less than pleasant meal experience. However I will say the place is charming and the history is absolutely awesome! Maybe we just caught them on an off night!

Didn't take a photo until we were almost done, but this has been the best BBQ I have had ever! Peyton's brisket and my pulled pork were perfection with so much flavor. The collard greens were amazing. The hush puppies and okra were cooked perfectly! Friendly too! Wow! Worth the drive to Culpepper!

DC people visiting the Shenandoah area and we took a drive out to Culpeper to get barbecue here. Well worth the journey!!!!!! Everything was outstanding! The chicken on the bone was so tender and delicious. The Mac and cheese was sooooo delicious. All of the sides were good, and of course the brisket too. We're envious of the ribs at the table next to us too! Lots of good options. Highly recommend and hope we make it back!

Phenomenal food. Great and fast service. Had to be careful when eating the ribs that the entire thing didn't fall off of the bone.

My daughter and her dad, and I, ate an early dinner at Grass Rootes Saturday afternoon…read more We were seated quickly and with a smile. Appetizer: lamb lollipops (3), delicious. Very tender. Entrees: daughter-bacon cheeseburger w/fries. Her dad- 1 lb of Cajun Shrimp. Me. Southwest Salad with a big Salmon added for extra $10. It was worth it and we all agreed, I scored the best dish at the table. It was delicious! (Said everyone). The waitresses were very attentive. So much so, we had 3 different waitresses asking for our order once already ordered. 3 waitresses asking do we need anything else. 3 waitresses asking if we're good. After we paid, another waitress came over and asked us if we were ready to pay. We dismissed the confusion and waved off all the drama but really, though, every waitress who addressed us everytime, was a Lot, all of those women, everytime, had smiles on their faces and were happy that we were good to go. We did enjoy our time there. Food was great.

Stopped by Grass Rootes on a Friday afternoon and everything we had was really great!…read more We started with the antipasto board to share which was a great blend of cheeses and a couple meats. The pickled(?) carrots were a great touch! I had a bowl of the chicken tortilla soup of the day along with the Caesar salad. I loved the salad's bread crumbs. I'm pretty sure they were made from rosemary bread, and that crunch was amazing! My mom got the Reuben special and said it was delicious, too. Definitely a solid spot if you're looking for a great lunch around town. Can't wait to go back for dinner soon.
