My wife, who is vegetarian, ordered the veggie fajitas that are made with portobello mushrooms. Her side dish included black beans that were very tasty. On November 17th, 2023 I met my now fiancé for the first time at their restaurant. We ate, drank and talked there for 4 hours. The food was superb to say the least. We went back on November 16th, 2024 to celebrate. We tried to get our table from a year ago but couldn't. The area was reserved. After explaining why I asked to the management, he comped us either a free appetizer or a free dessert. We sat down and ordered our food. It was ok, but not as great as we remembered it. We ordered an appetizer, our entrees and we shared their ice cream sundae. The appetizer was chicken quesadillas and it was pretty good. She ordered tacos as did I. They were ok. The dessert was amazing! But what was more amazing was the bill. The manager instead comped us a free appetizer AND a free dessert. My fiancé is moving in with me full time now. Moving from Naperville to my log cabin on the river. So we wont be in Naperville much anymore but I do suggest going to Uncle Julio's for dinner. read more

We went to Uncle Julio's today for my birthday. We were surprised when we saw the new menu. They condensed it by half- there are no vegetarian or vegan options. In the past, we could get mushroom tacos, my daughter always would order some kind of quinoa bowl. I would get veggie fajitas( onions, peppers, zucchini, yellow squash). They said they got rid of squash and zucchini. All they had was pepper and onions- but you'd still Pay the price of a meat fajita dish! What happened to Uncle Julios?? We used to love this restaurant and even friends from overseas used to love going there for the fresh fajitas and home made tortillas! Today our server was hostile to us (to the point where the people at my table were laughing as we were so uncomfortable), the food portions were a fraction of what they used to be, the menu was chopped down to bare bones, the table side guac only came with avocados and tomatoes (wtf??) and the tortillas were microwaved flour tortillas that I could have bought for a two bucks at the grocery store--not even high end grocery store tortillas...I am taking, sitting on the shelf for 3 months tortillas...and this from a place that I used to go to for their pillowy soft melt in your mouth homemade tortillas...it was shocking. Everyone at the table was pretty disappointed. the beans are no longer vegetarian (not mentioned and several people who cannot eat bacon got a mouthful before we found out). The napkins were dirty. It was just awful. I am sad as this used to be such a delicious place to for fresh high quality food, and now I wouldn't go there on a bet. read more

I came here for a graduation celebration with a big group. I want to start off by saying, our server was so lovely and accommodating. We had a big group with many people with different needs. The food was overall good. I got the chicken tortilla bowl, which was surprisingly a decent portion. Everything was really fresh, but it was more on the bland side. I ordered a side of guacamole and added that in, which gave it the boost it needed. Many of the people in my group got fajitas and all raved about it. Yesterday my family and I visited the Naperville Uncle Julio's location. We sat in the bar area so that we can watch some of the Chicago Bears game. We had Danarius as our waiter and were absolutely WOW'd by his service and personality. Even my 8 year old son was impressed by his friendliness. I'd like to say he was well trained, but I don't even think that kind of service can be taught. When we are back in the area we hope we can stop by and see him again. My family and I went in to celebrate my birthday at Uncle Julio's, it was the worst decision of the night!! This place is just a more expensive TACO BELL! The restaurant is so neglected on the outside with the lights not properly working. We got seated right away but the dining room was so dirty and so were the napkins at the table. The server came to the table and changed the napkins. We ordered the table side guacamole and it was ok. The rice was cold and bland and the beans were way too salty. The kids fries were stale and they tasted like they were cooked in old oil. We were going to order the chocolate piñata but the table next to us ordered it and the strawberries were moldy! So we didn't waist our money on it. We tried to get refills on our drinks but our server was busy on his phone and having important conversations with the other employees. I stopped by with my Husband on the morning of Valentine's day for some lunch and got the best service. We met 3 of the managers and they were nice and accommodating, making sure all tables were satisfied. The food was great as usual. Calling it "Mexican" food is the same as calling Taco Bell Mexican food (which is better quality in my opinion). You can tell people are working their butts off They are obviously so dramatically understaffed, it's bad for the customers and employees. I have eaten at Uncle Julio's in another state, and have tried and failed in the years since this Uncle Julios opened to eat at this one 3x but it was always too crowded and noisy. However, I found out that they deliver via Grub Hub, so my favorite Tex Mex enthusiast and I ordered in on Friday night. It took about an hour and the driver temporarily got lost but we were eventually provided with our meal. Overall, not bad. He was pleased with the bacon-wrapped camarones that he ordered (a bestseller, and I enjoyed my Jalisco fajitas (shrimp, steak and chicken with "Mexican butter," which seems to just be drawn butter enhanced with a lot of garlic and maybe some spices. Use it quickly because it congealed fast!) They came in a partitioned plastic container and had sloshed around a bit in transit. The flour tortillas that accompany were fresh and pliable. We also had queso as an appetizer; pretty thin but tasty, and the chips were fresh. Nice to know this is a delivery option; I'm still missing Chuy's, but glad to be able to get my Tex Mex fix close to home. read more

Very annoyed and disappointed with my meal at the Naperville location today. My server did not smile and was not friendly. The water bottle was dirty and had some debris floating around in it. She we said that may be the glue from the tequila bottle wrapper. They should clean the bottles thoroughly before use. My order came out wrong and I asked the person who brought the food out for my correct order and a refill of my drink. By the time I got my 2nd taco, I'd lost my appetite and was ready to go. Delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. Their on the house, smokey salsa and homemade chips are the perfect way to start your meal. Unlimited refills! My husband and I sat at the bar and were helped by a nice man named Berzain. He made sure we were happy throughout our meal and even took my husband's chicken back to be cooked longer once our dishes arrived. I ordered the Camarones Diablos, which comes with pico de Gallo, lettuce, guacamole, a side of rice, beans and warm tortillas. The tortillas come in a separate container with a lid to keep them warm while you eat. I replaced the beans with an extra side of rice. I have ordered that meal two times in a row now! My husband ordered the chicken fajitas for one and had enough to take home. The fajita meal also came with pico de Gallo, shredded cheese, guacamole, rice, beans, and warm tortillas. We were happy and full customers after leaving! **Only complaints are that the menu is VERY limited due to COVID and you basically HAVE to make a reservation ahead of time if you don't want to wait (due to limited dining room seating).** read more

I went here on 7/19/22 and had a party of 4. We arrived around 7:20 p.m. and were told that there was an hour wait time. I had guests from out of town that specifically wanted Uncle Julio's, so leaving to dine elsewhere was not an option. As we waited, I noticed that the restaurant was pretty full but there were a few open tables as well as a number of dirty tables that needed to be bussed. There were only about three other parties waiting for a table. There was a steady flow of patrons leaving the restaurant, but yet they seated all of the waiting parties *very* slowly. At least six different parties came in to ask for a table, but after hearing the host say it'd be 45-60 min of a wait (including to sit at the bar), they all left. I went on to the website and was able to secure an 8:00 reservation for the four of us, which was technically less than the hour wait we were told. Our wait ended up being just under 40 minutes and we were seated shortly before 8:00, so I didn't end up needing the reservation. The service was fine, the food was fine, but by that point we were all pretty put off by the confusing and frustrating wait time which seemed to be completely unnecessary. As I mentioned before, the hosts told many people that there was even a long wait to be seated at the bar. When I arrived, there were only two open seats at the bar. By the time I was seated, there were maybe only 4 people seated at the bar in total. No one was ever seated at the bar from the time I arrived to the time I was seated, and many seats had opened up. At around 8:15 the restaurant appeared to be less than halfway full (they close at 10:00 according to their website) and I couldn't help but think that they could have had much more service if they didn't turn so many people away and turned over tables a little faster. Based on this experience, I don't think I'll be returning and definitely not without a reservation! read more

The food was absolutely delicious!! They gave us free chips and salsa right when we sat down and the staff were extremely friendly! Unfortunately cause of covid the menu is limited not to much to choose from but still worth it. Our waiter was so nice and patient and overall a very pleasant person! He checked in on us to make sure we were satisfied with our meals (which were delicious!) The manager also came around to check on us which was assuring. The food was fabulous and my husband thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Thank you for your soft opening during 25 percent patronage. Half empty house, terribly slow service. Nice enough place. Sat in the bar because they were not seating the dining room until 9:00pm......... It was empty. Waited 20 mins to sit in the bar at a high top. The server arrived with chips and salsa quickly. Took drink orders and the disappointing wait began. Nice drinks arrived later and more chips. Then food was ordered. More chips. Decided to wait on food to get more $15 drinks. More chips. More water. No food. Waited so long we wondered what in the world would they do with a full dining room. 45 mins later we had waited so long and eaten so many chips we wanted to leave. When the food arrived with apologies for the interminable wait, three out of the five plates where not right. Two of us had the exact same order but one was missing cheese and hot sauce, how do two exact same meals leave the kitchen looking very different? These plates were handled by at least two people before it hit our table. The kids meal had the wrong fruit, which is fun to explain to the 4 year old. No offer to replace. By this time we were not interested in having more spendy cocktails. The second server that took over for the first server was very nice and polite and clearly struggling to work through amateur coworkers and poor practices. I usually give a place at least two tries to like or dislike, but this place is 40 mins away. I might come back, but not until after I've eaten at all the other places in the area first. We come here pretty often, but as much as the food is good, we always have some sort of problem at this location. We came here for DINNER and when we got there, the host told us we could only sit at the bar or at a high top table because there was ONLY 1 SERVER on.... for dinner?! It was definitely frustrating because I have a 3 and 4 year old and high tops are stressful with them because the chairs spin and the height. My 4 year old did fall off once.... Plus when you see workers standing around and laughing with each other is irritating when not even being able to sit in the dinning area. The food is what keeps us coming, but will probably just start going back to the orland park location. read more
