The restaurant was clean and surprisingly had a good number of people for a late Saturday night. The staff was working hard around the restaurant and nice enough! Our party of 3 was pretty hungry after an evening of outdoor music, so we each ordered a torta--one steak, one chicken, and one chorizo. We were surprised the specialty drinks (horchata, agua de Jamaica) were also self serve. Please keep in mind that we were there with less than an hour to close, so we understood why the horchata wasn't refilled. The chips were a little stale, but the guacamole had good flavor and good consistency. The tortas had enough meat on each of them, the bread was toasted to perfection, and the flavors of each meat were delicious. There were enough toppings, but collectively, we wished there was avocado on the sandwich. Overall (A) I love this place. It is my comfort food for when I need a cheat meal at night. When we moved in and I was exhausted, came here. When the kids had a late night meet, came here. My friend got me my burrito after picking me up from the airport so I can't comment on the interior or service. But I can tell you that I devoured this burrito (which was massive) within 15-20 minutes. I thought I would save half of it for another meal, but it was too good so I just ate all of it instead. I thought I could split it into two meals, but I got very lost in thought enjoying my burrito and I was very hungry so I ended up eating the whole thing. Each burrito comes with meat, beans, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I was surprised at the nutritional value as it relatively balanced. Good amount of steak in my burrito too, which was also pretty well seasoned. Some of the pieces were a bit fatty which gave it extra texture and flavor. The other toppings are pretty typical but contributed positively. Cheese was pretty stringy and the beans were mushy which I prefer. Lettuce and tomatoes made the burrito less dry. There's stiff competition for good tacos and burritos in the area. I was looking forward to some homestyle, authentic Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, the side of rice in the taco plate and enchiladas entree were hard (undercooked). Mexican rice is one of the few things that I really look forward to that every place seems to nail, but that was not the case here. The tacos were packed and authentic. They double up on the tortillas so don't be surprised by that. Ordered some steak enchiladas with mole sauce and found the mole very sweet. The places I've had this in Pilsen and other parts of the country usually lean more on the bitter/natural chocolatey side. I had a burrito for myself which was huge and filling. Excellent little Taco joint off of route 34 in Lisle/Naperville. Looks very small from the street but is actually pretty big when you walk in. I ordered the Pastor tacos with onions and cilantro. I have had a lot of taco and this place is pretty good. This place just made it to my top 2 taco joint for pastor tacos knocking Jalisco tacos from Aurora into 3rd place. There pastor meat is not dry. They do use red unions instead of white unions but that doesn't effect the flavor to much. They beat Jalisco because there tacos are full of Pastor. The low reviews probably come from people who don't know about authentic Mexican food. As a California tourist here, I can certified this is the best Mexican food I have tried in the area (Illinois-Michigan-Indiana). We tried the tacos, nachos, tamales, menudo, and milanesa. Did I mention this was a very lazy attempt to find food? When we received our bag of food, it was stuffed and pretty heavy. This place really takes care of you! My special burrito, which turned out to be a meal with rice and beans, was one of the largest burritos I've ever attempted to eat! I was only able to devour half of this thing, but it was absolutely delicious. One can easily tell it's packed with very fresh ingredients that work incredibly well together. My favorite? It is basically a taquería...you order at the counter amd can dine in our carry out. It is very casual. We ordered carry out...plenty of rice, beans, guac, tortillas and green salsa for me. Meat eaters in the fam ordered carne asada. They loved their dinner as much as I loved mine. I don't know how to explain what about it makes it better than other similar places...it just is! I've been going to this restaurant for many years and they have one of the best Mexican food in Naperville. They are also pretty consistent with their quality as well. Nevertheless, in the last few months I've been noticing a steep decline in the hygiene of the restaurant and the bathrooms. When you come in, you can smell the bathrooms right away. Also, this restaurant needs some TLC from its owners. The place is really dated and the bathrooms are not in the best condition. Like I said, I love the tongue tacos. The simple ingredients of cilantro, onion and tender beef tongue just all blend so well together. Add some hot sauce and you're in heaven. I know it may sound scary, but do yourself a favor and try it. This place is crazy packed on the weekends. But definitely worth the wait. I cannot say more good things about it. This is fast becoming a Saturday highlight for me to try something different here. I've been stuck on the same thing over the years here and they've recently, 6-8 months ago, spruced up the interior. Always find the lady very friendly and brings you complimentary chips and salsa along with your meal. You typically only need to do the initial fill up of your beverage and she checks on you and graciously tops off your beverage. I just love the Horchata and so happy they no longer charge for a refill. Today I gave the Chorizo tacos, with cilantro and onion, a try for a change of pace. Had a nice little kick to it and I left very satisfied. It's hard not filling up on the chips and the salsa is always fresh and has a good little kick to it. Open late and consistently satisfying, we've made many midnight runs when the taco craving kicks in. It's such a staple that our dog recognizes the white paper bags as we arrive home and does his puppy-dance, knowing a steak taco is coming his way! My son always orders the Flautas with a chicken taco, husband gets Beef Nachos with chicken tacos, and I try it all! A recent addition of Tex-Mex offers a varying finish, with Monterey Jack, guava and bell peppers, a win in my opinion.
