BIEN HERE BEFORE As part of the Bien Trucha restaurant family, Quiubo serves some familiar flavors in downtown Naperville. The Water St area has a great variety of restaurants including Vasili's (modern Greek), Blue Sake (sushi), SixtyFour Wine Bar and Quiubo (modern Mexican).  Technically I ate from here once - takeout during covid - but it was so long ago it might as well not count.  Most recently, my wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday in late June and sat outside. The sangria ($14) was strong, I appreciated the extra touches like apple bitters and a float of bourbon.  My wife loved the Pa'Dentro ($15), a cocktail with tequila, passion fruit, and orange liqueur.  The mango habanero margarita ($15) was also mixed perfectly.  5/5 The guacamole ($11) was fresh and flavorful: avocado, tomatillo, onion, cilantro, serrano and lime.  My wife found it a bit too spicy (diced serrano adds more heat than a traditional jalapeno) but I enjoyed it despite a small-ish portion.  4/5 We also got a queso fundido de camaron ($16): melted chihuahua cheese, red onion and pan seared shrimp, with tortillas and cilantro-serrano sauce.  Pan searing the shrimp instead of grilling them is certainly a choice....but not one I'd make again.  2/5 Esquites ($8.50), on the other hand, were awesome: grilled corn, epazote butter, lemon aioli, cotija cheese, tajin.  One of the best we've tried in a long time, but for $9 we expected a lot more elote!  5/5 The birria tacos (2 for $11) were very good; my wife was right to point out they should've come with a cup of birria juice on the side.  The tacos al pastor (2 for $10) were delicious: marinated pork with pineapple, cilantro, onion and salsa morita.  Next time, more tacos!  4.5/5 For dessert we got flan ($10), a creamy vanilla custard with caramel, rompope and cookie crumbs.  It was a denser style of flan and tasted amazing, but I don't know how I feel about that random pile of cookie dust.  4/5 Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 3.5 It took way too long for a server to come over and take our order at the beginning.  Thankfully the food came out FAST!  The bar, on the other hand, was lagging big time.  We were more than halfway finished with dinner by the time our cocktails showed up. Also important note for cheapskates like me: they do not serve free chips & salsa.  Quiubo isn't that kind of place, so if you want salsa with chips, you'll have to pay for it. * TL;DR * Rest assured you can get the same high quality tacos and cocktails from the Bien Trucha group. We were really impressed with a couple items like the esquites/elotes and al pastor tacos, as well as the atmosphere inside.  The vibes outside were solid and even though service was slow at first, we'd love to come back.  I'd recommend Quiubo for sure. read more

Transparency Matters Bartender mistake, surprise fees, and poor communication. My husband and I stopped by for drinks and a couple of appetizers on date night. Unfortunately, we left disappointed. My husband first ordered a mezcal that was available as either a 1 oz pour for $12 or a full shot (1.5 oz) for $18. When he later ordered a different mezcal, the bartender asked if he wanted the 1 oz pour again, so naturally he said yes, assuming the same option was available. After serving the drink and after he had already taken a sip, she came back and said she had made a mistake and that this particular mezcal was only available as a $18 shot (1.5 oz). We didn't want to argue and simply asked her to top it off. Still, a bartender's mistake should not become the customer's responsibility after the drink has already been served. The second surprise came with the bill, when we were informed that an additional fee would be added for paying by credit card. Restaurants are free to charge such fees, but customers should be informed before ordering, not when it's time to pay. We spent over $70 on three drinks and two appetizers, so the issue wasn't the money. It was the lack of transparency and the way these situations were handled. With so many excellent bars and restaurants in downtown Naperville, I'd recommend spending your money at a place that values clear communication and treats its customers more fairly. Having a best friend who is sober, I've been to a lot of bars and tried a lot of N/A cocktails. Quiubo is a favorite of hers so we go often. They have a couple of N/A cocktails that are really delicious using N/A spirits. They might cost $13 each, but at least they don't taste like you're drinking a Snapple. As a former bartender, she's really picky about her mocktails. We like to sit at the bar for drinks and chips/guac, but we come here for tacos and esquites sometimes too. We had margaritas here before and decided to eat here too. First of all, the margaritas are served in a gin and tonic glass not a traditional margarita glass. They were also more yellow than green and kind of small, and just OK not as good as we remembered. We both ordered tacos, and my wife's tacos came to the table, but mine didn't appear until 10 minutes later. Not ideal and that's never happened to us at a restaurant before. The place was not busy either. Their tacos are very small, compared to most places, and they almost all have odd, nontraditional ingredients in them like pineapple, squid ink, etc.. Also there are no chips and salsa unless you buy them, which is unheard of around here for a Mexican restaurant. We passed on the guacamole, because they put a pear on top. On guacamole? Come on!Their tacos are all à la carte and if you want frijoles, you have to order them on the side additionally. Our waiter answered all our questions about the ingredients in the salsa sauce and did a good job with that. They have big hydraulic windows that they can raise when the temperature allows it. They were of course down when we were there as it was cool out. We also found a 3% "Restaurant Surcharge" added to our bill. Comfortable restaurant near the Naperville downtown River walk. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for outside and it was a great day for it. There were some showers for 5 minutes but the outdoor seating had a cover so we did not get even a drop on us. It took a few minutes for our server to get to is, though she was friendly and provided good service once she started interacting with us. We order the Trio Botanero and half order of Cecina, Pollo Asado, and Pastor. All the food was great! Favorite was probably the Cecina. The meat was so tender and flavors balanced so well. We were sat down immediately and our waitress came and greeted us. She was very lively, lovely and attentive. The place was very nice and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes. I got the pastor tacos, esquites and the fresona. The fresona was pretty tasty, my date said it was a bit strong, I personally thought it was fine. The esquites were pretty tasty as well but a tad bit salty. The pastor tacos were also pretty good but I was kinda let down, usually pastor tacos are made with a fatty pork meat not ground pork. Also the meat mixture had a similar texture to chili, which was weird. However, they still tasted good. There is plenty of parking lots within walking distance and also street parking (if lucky, you'll be able to snag a spot). This place is cute and gives off a 'I'm at an all inclusive resort' vibe. Within seconds of walking in my friend and I were greeted by a staff member and seated. Service throughout was pretty good, our server checked in on us the perfect amount. Our app took a bit to come out but other than that everything else was timed out well. I started with the mango mamon cocktail. This drink is tequila based and fruity. I enjoyed it! For food we started out with the chicken flautas. They did NOT look appealing and unfortunately it also fell short. The chicken was waaaaaay overcooked. The green sauce was good but this is something that I would pass on going forward. We then ordered 2 full orders of tacos - pescado and the bien trucha. Both were very delicious and flavorful. Looooove this place!! If you are looking for a hole in the wall, no frills, authentic Mexican restaurant...then this is not the place for you. Quiubo has fantastic margaritas (some of the best I've ever had) and cocktails. No artificial flavors or syrups are used so they're fresh and delicious every single time. They don't use margarita glasses, which I prefer, since places that do use them typically have bad and overly citrusy/sweet margs. Their bartending staff is limited since the bar space is a little small so drinks can take a while but it doesn't bother me since the drinks are amazing and worth the wait in my opinion. The food is pricey and the portions small, but this is a fancier/gourmet Mexican restaurant. You're paying for the quality ingredients. Aside from the price, the food itself is really good. Even though this place has "fancier" Mexican food, all of it is authentic and delicious. But, like I mentioned earlier, if you want no frills Mexican food, this is not the place for you. I come here at least once a month and am never disappointed! Pricing is on par with Chicago restaurants of this caliber which is the trend Naperville is heading towards so take that into consideration if you're trying to find somewhere cheap to eat. read more

My friend and I went for drinks. I am not allowed to have alcohol so I ordered a NA margarita and my friend ordered a regular. The waiter gave us our drinks and half way through it we noticed mine was the one with real tequila in it. Panicked I told the waiter and he Denied he gave us wrong ones. The service was disappointing. The waitress didn't seem interested in serving us and didn't even bother refilling our water. We were charged $20 for four "mini" tacos, even though the menu listed them as regular tacos. When we asked for hot sauce, she brought a tiny container and added an extra $2 to our bill for it. I ordered 2 tacos & they were very small street tacos. The tacos were terrible NO favor at all. It tasted like either the meat was old or they just cooked it without any seasonings. I specifically asked the waitress if she could give me 3-4 lime wedges for my sprite. She only gave me 2 than I asked her for more than she took forever to bring them. Instead of bringing them she just went to wait on other tables. I also asked her for lime for my tacos & she forgot those too. We asked her for a box for are food which she also took forever. Went here for the first time with our family and Quiubo is amazing! We have lived in Naperville for about six months and moved out here from southern CA which is the US capital of Mexican food and I can say Quiubo can definitely compete! The ambiance and crowd is amazing and the servers/staff were incredibly attentive. The guacamole trio was great (had to ask for more chips a couple times because the proportion of chips to guacamole was too small). Got a margarita which was great. We also got the bien trucha tacos and the carnitas tacos and both of those tasted amazing. I don't know why some people give this place a low rating because yes the food can be pricey but it is top quality. If you want cheap Mexican food and don't care about cleanliness and atmosphere, go to a hole in the wall. If you want good, Mexican food and drinks, amazing ambiance, and quality food, go to Quiubo. read more

This place has very good food and ambience but I consistently have two major gripes: 1. It takes too long to get a drink. I'm not sure if it's a lack of bartenders or what but literally 20 mins a drink. 2. For the love of god pick up some flour tortillas for children's quesadillas and some chicken fingers, and some ranch dressing from Costco and keep it in your refrigerator. No child likes corn tortillas. Being "authentic" is really annoying and costs you a lot of business when parents cannot get a decent meal a child will eat from your restaurant. Go to Costco. Get the flour tortillas and chicken nuggets and watch your revenue spike by 20 percent. You're welcome. read more

I was invited here for a group event and was excited to try it when I found out it's a sister restaurant to Bien Trucha in Geneva which I love. The food and service was outstanding. Wait staff walked around with trays of cocktails first. I chose the Blood Orange Spicy Margarita which had just the right amount of spice. When they brought out Creamy Pimento Soup I said that I would pass because I was gluten free but the waiter said he would check and came back smiling to tell me to enjoy it because the soup was gluten free. Every waiter that came by after that told me what was gluten free...they passed the word! Impressive! Quiubo- I still don't know how to pronounce that word! The food is good. Overpriced, absolutely- for the portion size. Tacos are 1/2 order (2 tacos) = $11 or full order (4 tacos) = $18. Guac is $11 for an ice cream scoop of cold guac- I'm happy to pay a premium for guac... because they're making it table side... but Quiubo seems like they're profiting off people "always" ordering the guac so they make a bunch, throw it in the fridge and then serve it up. Also the amount of chips with the teeny scoop of guac was ridiculous for $11! Two of us ended up ordering 2 orders of guac! $22! The tacos were basic- the main protein with one thing on top. I got the shrimp tacos with a slice of avocado on top. My friend got the steak tacos with a slice of pineapple on top. Nothing warranting that price tag. $66 for 2 people without alcohol. My husband and I came here for a date night this weekend and couldn't have had a better experience. We were actually only going to get drinks here before getting dinner somewhere else. Came for dinner with a group of 7 (no reservation) and we were able to be seated right away. We started with the guac trio for the table which was good and nice to try a few different guac variations. The chips were nice and crunchy as well. We ordered several tacos so everyone could try something that appealed to them. I tried the rajas con papa which was okay but nothing special. It could have used more poblano and maybe another veggie. The pescado taco was good and has a nice flavor but the fish was not very crispy. I also tried the pulpo and thought that the flavor was okay but I was not a fan of the texture of the octopus. Others at the table enjoyed the bien trucha. Ugh so yum. I came here with my mom for the first time a while ago! I haven't stopped thinking about the Pepino margarita (I asked for the jalapeño infused liquor and it was actually spicy but like.. still sooo good.) The tacos were so yummy too! I didn't get the try any of the apps but they looked great as well. We tried a variety of tacos (maybe a total of 4-5 different ones) and all were very tasty. I think maybe one of those 5 I would give a 6/10 but the rest were undoubtedly delicious. The only downfall to this place is pricing but that's what you get for quality food in a boujee location!! Another place for Mexican American food. It has prices typical around here. Quiubo is okay but overpriced. Has some good drinks including the margaritas. The vegetarian choices are poor but they have tacos. Came in with a girl for lunch. It wasn't too busy and we sat at the bar and ordered. The place gets crazier when it's later and they crank the music up. It was pretty quiet at lunch. We had the typical Mexican drinks, including the Margarita Tradicional. It's $12 for a pretty small ass one. This was good but the price was a ripoff. It just wasn't enough in the glass to justify it. This is made with Exotico Blanco, lime, and orange liquor. As for the food, we had one of the few vegetarian items. This was the Aguacate Tacos. It's $8 for a pretty small ass one. See a pattern? Pretty expensive but pretty good flavor. This has aioli, which we left off, avocados, and pineapple pico de gallo. Good place to hang at downtown. It closes after lunch. They open back up for dinner weekdays. read more

This place is in Downtown Naperville right by the river. The decor was really cool! They had neon lights, wall paintings, and tons of seating. They also have outdoor seating for the summer. To drink I got a frozen daiquiri and the flavor was pink guava. Super good and refreshing definitely recommend trying. We got guacamole and queso fundido de shishitos for the table. The guac was pretty standard. The queso was good, but some of my family thought it was kinda salty by itself. You are given tortillas with the queso so it cuts the saltiness and is delicious combo. For dinner I got the playero tacos. I really liked these! It's got a creaminess from the aioli but also a tanginess from I think the onion and cilantro. The combination of flavors and texture made it an enjoyable dish. Overall really enjoyed this place and definitely will be back! read more
