This place is...not good. Super dry chicken that is either just old or has been refried. I couldn't eat it all, even though I usually hate wasting food. The sauce was nothing great, either. And the gross tables and surly employees would've been fine for the divey atmosphere IF the food had been good, but alas, that wasn't the case. Really not sure what the hype is. I wouldn't have been swayed by Guy Fieri's show, but a local was telling us Lou's and Gus's were THE places to get fried chicken in Memphis...and Lou's was closer. Great chicken. Great service. My mom and I showed up on a Sunday at 11:30am (when they open at noon.) And as every worker walking in told us we would be helped soon as they opened and even one worker brought a menu out to the car. Finally when it opened it was worth the wait. Carrots are a must. Easily rates in the top 3 fried chicken meals I've ever had. I prefer the original, but the sauced up chicken is very good as well. I tend to think a lot of people are glossing over the fact that this place is in a BAD neighborhood. I'm betting 90% of these out-of-towners got their food as carry out and rolled out. The people that work there were very nice and gave great service, but that is one sketchy area. Contrary to popular belief among these reviews, the location is just fine. This spot is located minutes away from Graceland. My girlfriend and I had just left the Graceland location and we was hunting for something to eat. Upon immediate search, I came across this place through Yelp's popular reviews. Now, to the good part! After a few minutes of debating on what we wanted to eat, Uncle Lou came over himself and welcomed us with the greatest Memphis hospitality and he also explained the menu and the specials to us. We both decided to try to Wing Special of the day. In addition, I ordered some corn nuggets. Listen...those honey biscuits are one of the greatest serving of biscuits I've ever had! The chicken was seasoned to perfection and divine! I got half original and half with the Sweet & Spicy Love sauce... it was good but the chicken was delectable without it. We went there while on a road trip a few years ago, and we still talk about how good the food was.

Fairly close to the airport, this was the first stop on our "Let's get fat in Memphis and Corinth" weekend extravaganza. And it was a good way to start. We arrived just before noon - and the place wasn't busy yet, but got that way quickly as we placed our order and waited for the food to arrive. We tried to get a good sampling of what was on order - chicken with both the home style breading and the "sweet and spicy love" sauce, wings in the same sauce, onion rings, fried okra, smoked sausage sandwich, and some biscuits. The chicken is very good - great seasoning in the thin breading. This reminded me of the breading at Del Rhea Chicken Shack...but better. The sweet and spicy love sauce is simply poured over the standard chicken, but this is a good thing. It's delicious, and the sauce, vinegary yet sweet is excellent - surprisingly good in fact. I expected pepper in the breading, but it was an additional, almost buffalo sauce. Our order was all dark meat, and it was tender and moist - very good. The smoked sausage was commercial tasting, but very nicely grilled, served on toast with cole slaw and yellow mustard. The slaw was OK - not great, but the toast was really good soaked in the left over sweet and spicy love sauce. Sides were a little hit or miss - fried okra was not good, but I don't like okra, and the onion rings seemed mass produced. Just OK. But the biscuits - flaky and pre-soaked in butter and honey, at just the right amounts. Rockin. Service was excellent, very friendly, and the food came out pretty quick. They hovered over us, refilling tea and making sure everything was OK. And a cool map hangs on the wall with pushpins for visitors from the US, and some Polaroid photos for folks from outside the country. I think we went because it was a "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" feature - not sure we would know about it otherwise. I'm personally not infatuated with Guy Fieri (I find him fake and annoying) but this place has good food and cheap prices. It's worth a visit. read more

I saw this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a couple years ago and had to stop here on my first (and only still) trip through Memphis. It went in this order: Sun Studios, Graceland, Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken. When we pulled up to this place, I was a little surprised that Guy Fieri and the Food Network crew came here. Simply put, it's in the ghetto. In the parking lot of a strip mall ghetto. But it was great food. This is back when I ate meat, so I ordered the 3pc. mixed with a side and a biscuit. The chicken was great...the "sweet spicy love hot" sauce on it was drenched in, totally made the meal. The biscuit was great and the fries were...well...fries. The best fried chicken I have ever had! I ordered the 3pc meal with corrupted carrots and a mix of the homestyle and the sweet spicy love chicken flavours. The chicken was so juicy, and yet not greasy and the carrots had a nice seasoning. Uncle Lou served me himself and offered recommendations as he noticed it was my first visit. Uncle Lou and the rest of the staff were extremely pleasant and aimed to please. They came by my table to make sure everything was OK and grabbed my cup for a refill of Dr. Pepper. From St Louis and this is in Memphis. oh my goodness! Saw this place on the food network and decided to stop in on a road trip. Have come back every time I get near Memphis. Their sauce is probably the best sauce I have ever eaten. It's not your typical buffalo sauce. I don't know what's in it, because it's really thin (which would normally be a bad thing) and doesn't coagulate when in the fridge. Well, you could pour this sauce over some KFC and it'd be good. But, the chicken here is fabulous already, so with the sauce it just becomes this wonderful plate of culinary awesomeness. I just ate a plate of their chicken, and had sauce left over. I am a little ashamed to say I just drank the sauce. It's so good! If you have never been here, go. Get some chicken, biscuits, corn cakes, and carmel cake and love that life of yours! Next time suggests going to Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston MO, I think I'll tell them that we are gonna drive a little farther and get us some Uncle Lou's! Giving them 5 stars. This place will never get my money again! We arrived about 30 minutes before closing and the young girl taking our order was nice and helped us place an order because we had never been here. All of the cooks were nice and the guy cleaning up in the evening was nice. There was a lady with super long eyelashes call was sitting in one of the chairs with her feet up in another talking to a random guy. I assumed they were finishing up with their meal. Apparently we were one of the last orders of the evening. The lady got up and went to the kitchen and started yelling at everyone to hurry up and finish because she was ready to go, and she didn't want to be there all night cleaning up. She calls our number and we go to get the food. She opens the food and shows it to me without even making eye contact. She is fussing at the poor girl at the register, because she gave us a free sample of their special sauce. For the record, I did not ask for it to be free and if she didn't charge me that I am grateful for that. But, I always expect that whatever I order, I am paying for. She proceeds to yell at this poor girl and tell her to stop giving away stuff for free. I was the last customer in house, and this was a conversation that she should have for the girl to the side for. That is not my business nor any other employees business. I felt for the girl because it was embarrassing, and I was embarrassed for her. I grabbed my food and left. The girl with the eyelashes were still going off about everything she was doing wrong. The gentleman cleaning up was very nice, and I mentioned in front of him that she was rude and I would never come back. He locks the door behind us and walks away. I then see him come back to the door and look out as if he is looking at our license plate trying to see where we are from. The only reason why we came to this place, is because we saw it on diners drive-ins and dives. We could have went to any other place and got much better food with great service, but we chose here. As a matter of fact, we drove all the way from Indianapolis just to eat here. The food smell burnt of old grease but tasted OK. My husband like the flavor, but personally it was not for me. Maybe I was still salty from the girls attitude, but honestly I did not like the flavor. It smelled really bad, and stunk the car up. The flavor taste it like fried jerk chicken. I personally am not a fan of cinnamon and savory food, so I would not go there againFor chicken. Now, those fried nuggets were everything. They reminded me of deep-fried cream corn if that makes any sense, LOL. Their desserts were old looking on display. The biscuits were OK, but they did not seem like they were cooked all the way. They were more Doughy than anything. We got fried okra, which was OK. But I will still never come back. My recommendation is to forget this place, and go to Gus's world famous chicken instead. We ended up tossing this mess, and going there later on in the evening and it was a much better experience. I have to say I prefer this place over the Gus joint. The location isn't pretty but damn that sweet sauce chicken is good. I ordered the 4 wing combo with fries. Same for Mister with onion rings. The biscuits were buttery and tasted sweet also. Couldn't leave without grabbing two caramel cakes from the dessert carousel. This was a really good cake. The icing wasn't sickly sweet; just right. If, I lived here, I would frequent this place often. Located not far from Graceland in a little shopping plaza, as soon as you walk in you can sense the authenticity. The owner was real down home and friendly. We ordered the chicken thighs mild with the sweet love sauce as well as hot wings with the hot version of the sweet love sauce. The wings had an interesting sweet vinegar taste, I definitely have never had anything like this sauce, but really enjoyed it. In addition, we ordered some biscuits, which are baked fresh and melt in your mouth. We came here because it was near Graceland and we just needed a quick stop for lunch. It can be hard to tell from the YELP ratings, but this spot is the definition of a dive restaurant. The sanitation was seriously questionable (so much so we almost walked out after about 3 minutes of staying inside). But since it was rated so highly on YELP we thought we would give it a try. The service was rude. In the middle of taking my order the phone rang and the waiter/cashier answered it without saying anything to me. No "excuse me" or "just one moment" or anything. Just answered the phone and ignored me. Even when the food was brought out to us they just kind of dropped it on the table. Not sure if everyone was just having an bad day or what? I can look past poor service if the food is good... Unfortunately, that was not the case. In my opinion the food was just AVERAGE. I had a burger and there was nothing special about it. My brother got the fried chicken and he said that was good but (again) nothing special. We ordered their lemonade drinks because I read a review that was raving about it. Literally, it tasted like the KOOLAID powder mix lemonade and fruit punch flavors. The bathrooms were kind of scary, and disgusting (just FYI). The ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THIS PLACE WAS their honey butter biscuits!! I actually thought those were delicious and would go back there just for those.
