    Steak n cheese

I've been eating lunch at this location for 25yrs but I no longer will. Their meat portions are getting smaller & smaller while prices are going higher & higher. I stopped ordering the Italian sausage last year because it shrunk and today's mushroom cheesesteak looks like a vegetarian sub. Tapping out after 25yrs...

Always a great experience at Uncle Sam's. Really like their subs. Their fries are great! I had a steak and cheese sub. Service is always great as well.

Absolutely perfect lunch stop. Delicious sandwiches- ranging from cheesesteaks to vegetarian. Everything cooked to perfection and so fresh!!! The absolutely best French fries! 3 Pittsburgh location- Blawnox, Squirrel Hill & Robison. Order at the counter, grab a seat & enjoy!

Italian hoagie thumbs down. Very little meat and cheese.

I believe their cheesesteak hoagies are very good. Although, I ordered an Italian hoagie. I was extremely disappointed. All bun, very little meat and cheese. The actual meat had a very different taste. Thumbs down for the Italian hoagie.

Our brother suggested this place for a bite to eat. Soo glad he did. Located in a shopping plaza in Fox Chapel, there is plenty of parking since stores such as TJ Max and Marshells are around. They are set back i. The plaza but worth the experience. Lets begin with they use Mancini bread for their sandwiches...that should tell you something from the beginning. Literally some of the best Italian bread you will find in the city! If you want the bread some-check out their shop in the strip district! We both got the Ultra Philly cheesesteak, one with ranch and one with Mayo. The meat is cooked soo well with just a little crisp on them and the little bit of tomatoes and lettuce really help give it some freshness. When you order in, you automatically get fries with your order and they serve them with warm cheese dipping sauce! Soo good! The sandwiches are Hardy, I ended up taking half odd mine home and eating it later in the weekend.

I had a great sandwich from this place. The prices are great and the food quality is decently high as well. The variety of sandwiches were somewhat limited, but the item that I tried was nice. I tried the mushroom Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It was very good. They had the perfect amount of mushrooms, steak, and cheese. The mushrooms tasted fresh and juicy. The steak had a nice texture and was also succulent. I added some tomatoes and they were pretty solid as well. They use Mancini's bread, which is fully and toasted while they make your sandwich. The fries are just alright, but I did think they were a bit limp and were not seasoned enough. The service was not the best. I did feel a bit rushed when ordering and the staff didn't check on me or anything while I was eating. You get the boxes yourself from a little location in the middle of the small restaurant. All in all, a nice spot for sandwiches. I really liked the mushroom cheesesteak. Good prices, good food, good portions.

I stop every 2 months or so for my usual...a deliciously nostalgic loaded cheesesteak. Cash only, comes with fries when you dine in, friendly staff, and consistently put together sandwich!

Second time here, still didn't realize/remember that it's cash only. Not a bad deal, $11 for a pretty big cheesesteak with peppers and onions, also comes with a big helping of fries. Bargain compared to some of the food trucks around. My cheesesteak was very good, roll was fresh and fries were hot and crispy. Other than cash only, it's a good place for a casual meal.

It's a proper neighborhood butcher shop on Butler Street, the kind of place that had mostly disappeared around here. They do whole animal butchery with meat sourced from local Pennsylvania farms, and you can feel how much the folks working there care about what they're doing. It's not a huge space, just a display case full of cuts, a wall of house made goods, and a small sandwich menu, but that's part of the charm. The staff were friendly and happy to point me in the right direction. The sandwiches are what really got me though. The smash burger is fantastic, a double patty on a challah bun with that special sauce, and you can actually taste the quality of the beef, which makes sense given the whole operation is built around good meat. I also grabbed some of their house made pastrami, and it did not disappoint, tender and full of flavor. Knowing everything is made in house, right down to the bacon and sausages, makes it even better. If you live nearby and don't have a butcher yet, this is the one.

Love the decor in the shop. There were many prepared food options in the fridge, as well as various cuts of meat/preparations of it. We got two sandwiches, the cheesesteak and the marbella. I dont think we ended up with the correct order because we didn't end up with a cheesesteak, but did not realize until we got home. I'm positive that if I went back to the shop they would've remedied the situation, but I didn't feel it was necessary! The sandwich we did end up with was good as well, unsure which one it was though. Very fair prices, and our dog was so happy we brought him home a bone as well! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything they have to offer.

I was actually quite impressed with how well it was prepared. Nice and flaky but didn't fall apart. The bun it comes on is well proportion with the fish. The only thing I could've went without, was the macaroni salad topped on the fish. However, the food here never disappoints. I'll be back.

You like traditional goto, must have, sandwich from Pittsburgh? If you do, this place is for you…read more This place was started by Joe Primanti in 1933 to feed shift workers from the local warehouses (coal and iron) and railroads. They are known for big sandwiches which now includes fries and cole slaw. The sandwiches provided value to workers...who were looking for a place to feed themselves to keep their energy up for a long shift. When you sit at the bar and you can only imagine the workers that sat here to feed themselves with what little they had. They found a sandwich between two pieces of soft Italian bread with a good balance of meat, cheese, cole slaw and fries...think energy and value. The history here is real and intense. Would I rate this as a culinary destination? Not particularly but I would say it's a must see to be part of US history as the town righted itself and came to life. The sandwich? I had the pastrami with cole slaw, egg, fries and tomato on Italian bread. Remarkably, the sandwich was light...despite it sounding heavy. The cabbage and tomatoes bring a great balance to the sandwich which makes it messy and remarkably light. Be prepared to get messy..so eat fast! I am probably talking too much about the sandwich...just go try it. The food is probably a 3.5 but it gets the extra .5 for the amazing history there. The service was great...well educated on the product, accommodating in every way. If you are in Pittsburgh, this is a must try.

I had to go across the street to use the restroom because theirs were nasty. It required going down a steep set of stairs, and the women's bathroom floor was wet. First and foremost I want to say that this review has nothing to do with the service or any of the staff. The woman running the front counter was extremely friendly and attentive, and made sure my food came fast. The unfortunate part is that one of my sandwiches was inedible. The Mr. orange was really tasty. Peri peri sauces are some of my favorite and I'm always chasing that high of a cheeky Nandos (iykyk) I do think the heat was a little more than I expected but there are options to customize to cut the heat. The problem was the coveted French onion soup burger. Holy sodium. Without even dipping into the side car of jus it was like eating a salt lick.
