I've been coming here for over 3 years now and have loved it every single time I've been. Their breakfast, and lunch/dinner options are always the best to get quick and cheaply priced southern food. The service is friendly and communicative too if there is ever a problem or wait. The chicken is good and the 'taters are yummy, however you choose to get them. And the sweet tea is sweet enough to give you diabetes. Lol. My personal fav is their chicken biscuits with hash browns and a sweet tea in the morning. Biscuits are always soft, hash browns are always crispy, and chicken is always tender. And an added plus, they don't stop serving breakfast until 11:00 A.M. so if you miss Chick-fil-A's 10:30 A.M. cut off, come here to get your breakfast! Stopped by for a family dinner meal 8/16/21 @4:20pm. Ordered a family sized meal and a chicken sandwich meal. The "worst" I ever experienced! I stumbled upon Uncle Shug's due to a coworker's insistence that we take a detour into the town of Statesboro just so we can go eat here on our four hour road trip down to the border of Florida. Uncle Shug's is a charming little chicken stop right on the side of the freeway, conveniently located beside a gas station. Whereas everything about this place yells "quaint," "family-owned," and "local watering hole," the food here wasn't really my cup of tea. The chicken was indeed juicy, tender, crispy, and hot as expected from an establishment that prides itself on fried chicken, but a tad bit salty for my non-Southern taste buds. The beans I ordered as a side were literally drowned in salt; adding pepper helped a little, but it was otherwise unpalatable. Uncle Shug's one saving grace, however, is their chicken gizzards; these were seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of batter. I am writing this review to inform you all of my experience of Shug's. I traveled about two hours to come to Splash in the Boro with four children Friday. After our great time there, my sister suggested I call in to Uncle Shug's Chicken Barn and order a 20 piece tenders meal, since she eats from there quite often, getting their family meals. I called in and the first person didn't know what meal I was ordering, she asked another worker and she took over the phone call. After placing the order, I asked how long would it take and she said "we are about to cook it now, you can go ahead and leave". I left my sister's place shortly after and upon entering Shug's they told me it would be ready in a moment. A worker came out about 4 minutes later and told me they were waiting on the fries but everything else was done. I waited for a total of 10-15 minutes for the meal. Once I arrived back at my sister's home I noticed they gave me a box of old fries and a box of fresh fries! The chicken was barely warm and the toast was in the box with the chicken so it absorb the wetness from the steam. I called back up to Shug's and told them about the old fries and I left my sisters name for the box of fries, that they offered. I took a picture of the fries and didnt complain about the chicken cause I was hungry and I wasnt going back out. I will not go back to Shug's, I'd rather go up the street and eat from The Boiling Shrimp. Uncle Shug's has some unhappy customers, while they tried to rectify the problem with a box of fries. Are they expecting me to buy more chicken to go with the fries? They messed up our dining experience, why should we be inconvenienced to spend more money because of their mistake. They may not miss my business, but I'm sure they will miss my sister's and her family of 6. And just in case an employee or the owner reads these reviews, the purpose of the call-in order, is so that it will be ready upon arrival. I might as well have just drove there and placed the order, and maybe I would have left in less time. It has been a while since I got a chicken finger plate at uncle shrugs. It used to be quite good, but this time it was horrible. The fingers were tiny scraps drowned in batter ... Maybe an ounce of chicken in the large plate serving. Some pieces were gizzards, not white meat. The green beans are no longer too salty, they had no seasoning at all and tased like they were cooked in dishwater. Terrible meal. Gave most of it to my dogs. Never again.ugh! Beware!!! If you want to be served food that was good 6hrs ago by staff that have horrible attitudes, this is the place for you. Every single time i come here for food it is never hot and fresh accept the one time I asked that it please be cooked fresh. I only asked for it to cooked fresh once because that one time that I did I was met with a frown from the staff and had the drive through window slammed in my face several times through out the transaction.
