Garage looking type of brewery in Niles in some industrial type of building. It seems there's a lot of these, but this is among the good ones. Une Annee is one of the reasons to go to this pretty boring looking suburb. Hit up the bar for some cold ones plus on site made food. The prices aren't bad for craft beers and kitchens. A pretty impressive looking building. It's big and can fit hundreds. This is like a massive garage with a bar and a kitchen. First though it's a brewery. It's about $6 a pint. The one I liked the most was the Twist Of Wit. It's a wheat beer with Cara Cara oranges, coriander, and Meyer lemon. Tasted fruity but not too much. Also we got some food, which was actually good for a brewery. Vegan options are limited but there's a few. It's $6 for the Veggie Chili. This is vegan without the sour cream sauce. Also there's barbecue. There's pork belly and that kind of stuff. Beers are the best things to get here. It also has food from an on site kitchen. My lovely wife and I finally made it to Une Année Brewery the other day, as we tagged along with friends who have frequented this somewhat tucked away establishment in suburban Niles. The day we came happened to be the day of the Kentucky Derby (side note - I picked the winning horse, though I did not bet on it!), so there was a good crowd of adults and kids alike. Although we did not order any food, the food selections coming from the kitchen looked good. Our friend favors the smoked sweet potato dish. I should have tasted more, but did not because this beer was so tasty, so I stuck to that all afternoon. The venue is very child-friendly, and many board games are available. This place is a hidden treasure. The beer is phenomenal and borderline visionary. Being a sour fan, I go for their creative brews, and of course their decadent meats. The beer: the stout / cherry sour blend was heaven, and you could taste both elements of the mixture clearly, and constructively! They really complement each other well, with rich chocolatey undertones and punchy sour cherry flavor. Sipped slowly, you're kicked in the teeth first with the effervescent cherry, then lulled into the rich dark beer to coat your tongue and ready you for the next sip. The food: brisket was 8.510 - ever so slightly dry, but still fork-tender. It wouldn't jump off the bone, but it'd at least fall off. Brilliantly strong smokey flavor, and a PERFECT crisped fatty layer on each slice. At a half pound plus the sweet potatoes, you'll be full upon finishing. The barbecue sauce was so good it took all of my willpower not to go home with a bottle available for purchase because I would be flying the next day and couldn't bring it through TSA. They should seriously consider scaling up and making this available for mass distribution. It is hands-down one of the best barbecue sauces I've ever had. We also tried the turkey sandwich, which was surprisingly flavorful. My normal expectation with turkey sandwiches is a rubbery, dry texture with bland, processed turkey flavor. This wasn't at all the case for this sandwich, which was clearly made in-house with quality ingredients, and which had its own spectacular peppered flavor and remarkably pleasant texture. It was so good that I might consider getting this next time instead of the brisket if I'm not hungry enough. The barbecue chicken pizza was a little bit underwhelming. I wouldn't think you would go to this place for pizza, but the member of our party who ordered it saw that we had ordered the other two dishes she was interested in, so I wanted to try something else. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for quite a while and today my wife and I stopped in for lunch and a couple of beers. I would give the beer 5 stars, and the food a 2.5. We were seated and told that the ordering is done through a QR code you scan at your table. My scan did not work but my wife's did. The menu on the small phone was hard to really take in and appreciate the options. Because mine would not scan we had to pass her phone back and forth. I really hate QR codes and wonder why places just don't print and laminate menus. I went to the bar and actually took a photo of the beer menu above the bar and used that to order the beer. We ended up with a pulled pork sandwich and a chicken chimichurri sandwich. Beers included a sour, a Marzen, and a Kolsch. Very good beer!! My first bite of the pulled pork was one large gelatinous blob of fat!! That right there kind of killed it for me. I am not into fatty meats in the least! I've eaten lots of pulled pork and have never seen that large a concentration of fat in one dish. The chicken sandwich was good and substantial but the aioli was quite drenched on one end of the sandwich and overwhelmed all the other flavors. My plate also was not delivered with a fork or knife. A special request had to be made for that. Waitstaff was great and very helpful, but this will be a beer place and not a food place for us. I may give the food another shot some time, but I'm not in that place now. The fat-blob shock will take time to heal and with some therapeutic assistance, I may be able to try the food again. Visited for the first time and I'm impressed. This microbrewery and BBQ restaurant located hidden in a Nikes industrial park is worth checking out. It looks like they brew about two dozen beers and they have pretty good BBQ. I dropped in for happy hour on a Friday (until 5:30 I think) and it was slow but you could tell this place is built to handle large crowds. There is a clean, open design to Hubbard Cave (the BBQ side?) and Une Année brewery on the other side of a large, comfortable seating area. Outside there are a lot of picnic tables under a cover and a small stage that I assume hosts live music on the weekend. I had the nachos with brisket and their take on the traditional dish was unique. It wasn't smothered in cheese and the brisket was in large chunks with onion, jalapeños and whole cherry tomatoes (rather than diced) had the feel of a stew with chips thrown in. Just stopped by for a BBQ lunch, nice open space with a lovely patio. Barkeep was very welcoming and knowledgeable. We didn't have any beer, but it looks like there are many interesting options. I had heard of Une Année from colleagues who extolled its praises. It's in an industrial park area, down from Costco/Target on Gross Point. There's parking (although narrow) and a large outdoor area with picnic tables. It was a cold and blustery day so we dined in at lunch (my friend made reservations). There was no need to make reservations; only one table was occupied. There's QR codes on the table which so flummoxed my dining companions that it took about 10 minutes until they waved the white flag and beckoned a server over. I just thought it was funny because all of them were asking the same questions. (Why didn't I have the problems? They were treating me to lunch. From what I could see it looked overly complicated). Anyway, once our orders were placed, the food came out right away. My pulled pork sandwich came with Cole slaw and a side of mac and cheese. I don't eat the bun but I found the pulled pork to be really salty. I couldn't finish it. The Mac and cheese was ok, but it was bland. My friends ordered brisket and burgers and seemed satisfied with their lunch. My friend enjoyed their beer. Une Annee Brewery is in a commercial district in Niles close to the Costco & Target. It's a bit tricky to find. Once you do find the establishment there are signs leading you to the correct entrance, and since it was very cold, windy, and their were flurries it seemed to take forever to find the entrance. There are more signs that tell your to check in at the bar. We spoke to a very nice bartender that told us which tables we could sit in and explained that food and drinks could be ordered through a QR code at the table. The website that the QR code takes you to for ordering is very easy to navigate, but there is so much information. There are many food choices, beer choices, merchandise choices, etc. We arrived at 2pm and did not place an order until 2:45pm! My first impression when perusing the website is that everything seemed so expensive. I'm used to breweries where you have at least three different choices on the size of beer you can purchase - usually 5oz, 10oz, and 16oz. This can vary depending on the ABV of beers. Usually you can create your own flights, have a smaller pour or even blend two beers if you like. While Une Annee has lots of choice of beers, they only have a few pre-ordained choices for flights. There are a couple of beers that they have chosen to mix, and then there are single pours of the beers themselves. Most of the sours were 12oz and between eight and nine dollars. The smaller pour is because they think 16oz is a bit much for a sour, and I agree, that is why I like to mix sours. We ended up sharing a burger, my husband got a German style pilsner, and I got an October fest. I will say the October fest is one of the best I've had this season. There is an outdoor seating area with lots of picnic tables and fund lights, so I think we are looking forward to returning when the weather is nicer and exploring more of the beer choices. read more

08/30/24 - if you've ever been to the Niles Costco the front of Une Annee Brewery/Hubbards Cave is located @ 6343 Gross Point Road. It's da big grey building. I stopped by here yesterday for a late lunch. I parked in the front and tried getting in only to realize the entry is all the way in the back of the building. The first thing you see in the back is an enormous outdoor patio area w/tables covers by a large canopy/tent. As you walk towards the back there's a sign that tells you to check in at the bar. Upon entering one of the first thing that catches your eye are the huge stainless steel beer brewing tanks. Besides the seating outside there is a huge dining area inside w//UPC on the table that serve as the menu. They have a huge assortment of different beers all brewed in their micro brewery. On the wall @ the check in bar there is a menu of 24 different beers all brewed in Une Annee Brewery. I also had a Tap 4 - 160z LIME PILS Our Refreshing PILS (German Pilsner) with Lime refreshing w/a limey taste Une Année, meaning "One Year" in French, began with a seasonal rotation of annual Belgian beers, which have since become weekly and bi-weekly releases. An Independent Craft Brewery, was born, in 2013, on the near west side of Chicago on Hubbard Street (near Hubbard's Cave), with the quest of making fine Belgian inspired ales for all beer lovers. I ordered a Grilled chimmichurri steak sandwich that was a very tender 8oz grilled inside skirt steak (arrechera) marinated and topped with chimichurri, placed on a soft sub roll with aioli, baby green and red lettuce, and grilled onions. All steaks are grilled to medium. Seasoned Frites or choice of side Included. This sandwich was delicious nice & tender. The entire wait staff is phenomenal. At least 4 or 5 people came by and asked me how I was, how the food was and if they could get me anything else. Overall it was a great dining experience. The food, the beer & staff made for a great meal in a very cool space w/the big brewing tanks of beers & the wood barrels of beer. Location can be a little tricky to find and navigate to. If facing front of building, park on right side of building. Note, enter from the rear of the building and check in at the bar. I had heard good things about this place from coworkers but was not familiar with, so have been wanting to check it out. The menu is driven by a QR code on the table courtesy of Toast. If this is your nightmare, I feel you. There are hard copies of drink menus, food menus, and specials, but everything is driven by the app which is most up to date; for example, the vegan mushroom burger was on the hard copy special menu, but was noted as out on the app. WORTH NOTING! The app also giveth and taketh away on its own timetable. For example, we had arrived during lunch specials, but right before happy hour start. The two actually overlap by 30 minutes. So since it was my first time in and I was figuring everything out and taking everything in (there's a LOT going on!) I figured I would wait for happy hour to start before I placed my drink order on the app, and include a lunch special. Nope. The app took the lunch specials option off of the online menu at 2:30pm, even though the specials went until 3pm. No warning, no fine print, just poof, the menu option that was on the app before was simply gone before it was over. What does all this mean? It means that I paid $3 more dollars for the angus burger than I should have. It also means that when I mentioned it to the staff they did not offer to accommodate or address, I guess we are all just slaves to the app workflow? Poor form. It's not a special if I am paying full price duh! Another example, since I was in the app to begin with before happy hour pricing started, there was no menu option available for it even after it began. I had to rescan the QR code, go back into the app in order to realize the happy hour menu option. Obviously my beef is with Toast and the app; and more about how it works, than the venue; but when a business leads with technology, especially the DIY kind, that then becomes the customer experience which in turn is a direct reflection on the business, like it or not. This hands off type of approach when well executed can be an amazing aid to the business allowing for all kinds of pros; but I feel there are still some use case scenario issues to be addressed here. If I sound like a geek, it's because I am. I used to do this for a living so it's close to home. Outside of tech and the business' apathy to be responsible for it, the execution here is spot on. The beers are good. First time in, we kept it simple and had a Fest and Pils. Paired with the angus burger and the smoked sweet potato which we put bbq sauce on. We did sample the BA El Zacaton which was amazing; and a Peanut butter beer that was WAY too sweet for this kid. The kitchen for the small size of it I feel deserves some props. Why? Because 1) There's a LOT going on with the menu, check it out, all kinds of yummy options to consider 2) A work function came in after us which was a pretty good sized group that they started serving drinks and food to, so I was hoping my food order being fairly simple, would not take too long, and it certainly did not; and even better to boot, it looked JUST like the yummy picture on the menu which is fairly rare and does not happen often. How many times have you ordered something on the menu that looked amazing, only to receive something that looks totally different and disappointing. Not at the Cave, so props to the kitchen for bringing your A game! There were only two staff working the floor when we were there, but both were very friendly, amiable, helpful, and more than willing to guide a couple nubes. Not all, but some of the prices seemed a bit steep, so be mindful of that as all the many tempting eat and drink options can add up fast. Also related to the app/tech/workflow, the inability to explore custom beer flights of your own choice. As far as I could tell, this option did not exist, which seemed really odd; but the staff seemed more than happy to provide you a taste sample. We ate at a picnic table under a number of tarps angled to keep harsh sun rays out but allow cool summer breezes in. Beautiful, modern indoor tap room also offers searing. When you enter the parking lot, park more towards the rear as that is where the entrance is. It's practically almost impossible to see driving down gross point rd in any direction but once you find it, it's a neat find ! Everything is also pretty easy and accessible. Celebrating Father's Day early, we visited this incredibly spacious brewery for the first time. We were warmly greeted by Shannon who turned out to be the taproom manager. She was exceedingly gracious and helpful sharing her early involvement with this family-owned brewery and how ordering worked with a QR code for drinks and food. They have a wonderful selection of German style Pilsners to Hazy IPAs and even some unique stouts. My partner enjoyed Pils, a German style Pilsner. After some helpful input by Shannon, I selected the TRIPEL, which was a very well balanced traditional Belgian Abbey Ale. Since we were celebrating Father's Day we had selected this place because of their barbecue. We were not disappointed because the baby back ribs and sliced brisket were both fantastic. The ribs especially were so meaty and we really enjoyed the spicy and sweet dry rub. The food came out quickly and it was just a perfect balance to sample this delicious food and these great brews. On top of it, I would have to say this was the most comfortable setting for such a place with the most cushy chairs since we sat inside in the very spacious tap room. An absolute hidden gem! Our go-to summer brewery. Wonderful outdoor space, amazing happy hour, great staff, and super kid-friendly. Looks Family-Friendly -- Until You Actually Bring Kids We've visited Une Année / Hubbard's Cave in Niles multiple times because we love the food, beer, and relaxed atmosphere. It looks family-friendly with board games the restaurant provides, a large outdoor space with picnic tables, and a stage where kids often make fast friends. During our most recent visit, the staff's hostility toward kids went too far. We were seated inside despite plenty of open outdoor seating, and sat as a family playing the restaurant's board games. Toward the end of dinner, when an elderly table needed extra space to leave, three of our party stood to help. Our 3-year-old then briefly ran around our table--not the restaurant. The server immediately yelled at him--and at us--about running. When we talked to the manager, there was no apology or attempt to smooth things over. Instead, she doubled down, even yelling at another family right in front of us to prove that running is absolutely not allowed. It's confusing--this restaurant offers so many family-friendly amenities, yet the staff's customer service makes families feel unwelcome. Out with friends and opted for pizza at this brewery that's better known for its BBQ. The pizza was good, nice and crispy crust, light on the toppings but not in a bad way. Ordering on the app was straight forward and convenient. Food came out pretty quickly. Like the vibe there even on a cold night. Looking forward to sitting outside when the weather is warmer.
