The food was okay but did not really stand out. The cheese curd portion felt a little small, and the burger was fine but not particularly memorable. It was boiling hot outside during our visit, so we chose to enjoy our brews indoors rather than at the outdoor patio. We sat at the bar and initially ordered a flight, and we enjoyed our four beer selections. We visited this location last year and had a lovely experience only having a drink and an appetizer. This year, with my 100% gluten free diet, I was extremely surprised at how knowledgeable their staff is. Logan was extremely helpful when I called ahead. Our waitress was very informative and she even made sure that I did not receive the tortilla chips with my fish tacos, as they were made in a shared fryer. The Missus and I have dined here enough times over the past four years to become quite familiar with this Tangled Roots outpost - the beer, food, atmosphere, and friendly service. So, what was different this time? Well, the menu has shrunk. There used to be 5 burgers, 4 steaks, and 4 entrée-size salads; now down to 3, 1, and 3, respectively. No more pork chop or potato-encrusted branzino. Detroit-style pizza has been replaced by the more common flatbread. At a glance, the chow has been drifting downmarket, transitioning from upscale and inventive towards average pub fare. Menu descriptions are shorter and suggested beer pairings are absent. I ordered a chicken club and opted to upgrade my side to a dinner salad ($2 add-on). The salad, house-made honey mustard vinaigrette served on the side, was excellent. The sandwich was very good but noticeably smaller than grilled chicken sandwiches I've enjoyed elsewhere (perhaps because their brioche buns are smallish). It was awkwardly plated, sitting lonely on a large platter without so much as a companion pickle spear. My Missus ordered the TR burger. Ditto the size of her sandwich. It was well prepared but the accompanying tater tots tasted more of old oil than potato. Our server responded, "I'm sorry about that," but she offered neither a substitute nor a deduction from our bill for the uneaten side. I dunno ... the sandwich platters at so many other pubs and diners seem to be more generous. My Missus requested a slice of onion and what she got was a small plate containing a few slivers of onion. She had to ask for more napkins twice because our server brought teensy cocktail napkins on the first go. A restaurant should never scale back by cutting corners on quality or quantity. Great, fast service and a perfect spot for a Saturday night meal! We stopped in after buying some appliances next door and were pleased they were able to seat us right away in addition to giving us space for our stroller. The beer was great, my husband and I each did a flight. Our favorite was the Honest Hazy IPA. Seems like a good spot for groups or families. Gluten and tree nut friendly options were not an issue at all (in fact, I would argue the GF flatbread was better!) SPACE: The private room space was also lovely needing very minimal decor to personalize. Having a semi-private space with our own bar worked out perfectly. ACCOMMODATIONS: Because our event was a surprise, I had to get creative with when and how to decorate. I went here last night for a Bad Momz comedy show. Doors opened at 6 and the show started at 7:30. My friend and I arrived just a few minutes after 6 and there were many people already there. They seated us up front with two other women. It was a little strange at first to be sharing a table with people we didn't know, but they were super friendly and we struck up a nice conversation. I loved all of the windows and the decor, and the lighting was perfect. Our server was top-notch and when I asked about vegan options and mentioned I would like the Bavarian pretzel with no cheese, she said she would get a second scoop of mustard for me then, which I appreciated. The portion size was good but I felt the pretzels were a bit dry. The menu could use a couple good vegan options. On a side note, my friend said her burger was ok, and the other 2 women at my table enjoyed their entrees. The show was the best; the 4 comedians were hilarious. What made it worse was everything that happened before that -- we asked two different servers to check on our order. One said she would look into it but never came back and noticeably avoided eye contact afterward. The other assured us the food was "being worked on," which clearly wasn't true since the order didn't even exist in their system. It was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. As Asian customers, we also couldn't shake the feeling that we were being treated differently, which made the whole experience even more upsetting. This is a restaurant by Tangled Roots Brewery which is welcomed in the neighborhood. A big difference between Jolanes, outside of the menu, is that this restaurant is centered around beer pairing with the entrees on the menu versus Jolanes. Jolanes also showcased baked goods and desserts. The dining area is eerily similar to Jolanes both in the main dining area as well as the atrium/patio area with a few tables outdoor for dining el fresco. The service was good but seeing that they are hiring, seems like they are still understaffed. Part of the dining area was being serviced not only partly by the bartender but also the manager on staff. With that said, the service was good. On to the food... Amazing! The flavors and tastes are so good. We ordered a bunch of stuff and EVERYTHING tasted delicious. From the mushrooms, to the cauliflower, to the fish battered cod, to the truffle fries, to the pork chop, everything was so good. Can't wait to try more. The dining area was peaceful and lively. This was my 2nd time here, once when it just opened and then a few weeks ago with some friends. I really love the vibe in this restaurant, we used to come here all the time back when it was Jolane's. Cool decor and they've done such a great job with the all-season's room in the back. Do yourself a favor and sit there, grab a couch booth if you can! The beer selection on tap is plentiful. I really enjoyed the Golden Ale. My buddy wasn't too much of a fan of the Pearent Trap.. too vanilla-y. He seemed to really like the Honest Haze. This is in no way a criticism but rather as an informative "heads up". I called to inquire about watching the inauguration on one of their televisions, along with a large group of people, and after speaking to the manager, was informed that it was their restaurant policy not to air anything on the television except sports. I told him I respected their decision. So now me, and our group of 15, are going to be headed to a different restaurant. Arranged for a private room and a television!
