True Score: 3.75 Stars Comfortable spot. Griff's is a local tavern that has an open, inviting atmosphere. Not too bright but not dimly lit, TV monitors along the back of the bar and on the walls behind the tables. There's a pool table and some video games off in an alcove in the back. There are even racks with lottery ticket forms on most tables. We saw an outdoor area with seating but nobody was out there at the time. We enjoyed Mac and cheese bites (fried bits of battered Mac and cheese), and Luger's bacon as our appetizers and selected a steak sandwich with sauteed onion and cheese, served with fries. and linguini in a vodka cream sauce topped with lobster as our entrees. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very friendly and patient. Service was excellent and the food was delicious. The food here is divine, today I got the flank steak hero for the first time and it was amazing! This place knows how to cook beef. I also got the fried pickles as an appetizer and it was so good. I usually come here and get the shell steak or the ribeye steak which I think both are the best on Staten Island. The service here is very friendly and very proactive in their service. I never felt like I was abandoned by the server and Everytime I have been here the servers have had a very friendly and welcoming vibe. This is everything you want in an old fashioned bar with a pool table and some arcade games with TV's all over. This place makes me feel like I'm in a movie with how well designed it is while still keeping a very authentic feel. First off let me say this place was recommended to us. We walked in and the place quaint ( a little old 80's looking) , We were seated . And they brought over our drinks and we ordered appetizers. The appetizers tasted frozen. And as we sat there eating and trying to hold a conversation, The waitress kept coming over to check on the table. In fact the waitress came over about 7 times in a 15 min span) to check if we were done and ready to order our dinner ? And before I was even put the last forkful of food into my mouth she picked up my dish and took it away. Kind of rude ?? We then we ordered dinner. I had a burger and fries ( Med rare) . When it finally came out I took a bit and found it to be DRY, and devoid of any seasonings at all. ( Nothing ) Just plain ground beef on a bun ! It tastes like they just took ground beef and threw it on the grill. The fries also had no flavor as well. Not even a hint of salt. NOTHING. Then I ordered a piece of chocolate cake and coffee. The coffee while not to bad , still tasted like instant . And the cake was somewhat dry and a bit stale. And all through this the Tv's and music were BLASTING so loud we could hardly talk. And the waitress while a pleasant woman , Came over to the table far to many times. In total she came over in a 50 min span 15 times. When I think of Griff's I think of a burger that melts in your mouth. I don't think I've ever had a slider so delicious that I haven't had to douse in a house sauce. The staff always makes me feel like I'm at home and most times they'll comp a few drinks as a "drink with Griff." The bar definitely has a classic sports bar feel, which adds even more to its charm. They gave me eight wings for $13 that looked like they've been left under a heat lamp for the past week. Dried up AF. Then when it came time to pay the check... guess what? They don't take cards. They only take cash. In the middle of a pandemic they don't take cards but they only take cash. That makes a lot of sense. So I had to go to the ATM and spend an extra $2.50 dollars on the ATM fee. I've never heard of this place and it's location is definitely a little off. It's across Miller Field in New Dorp, but the food here is what I heard was great. They have high top tables along the wall and some tables in the back near the pool table. I must say though the spacing between behind the bar and bar wall was pretty big. I'm sure if they moved the bar a little closer to the bar wall more tables could be put out. The bartender was a woman with black hair, long lashes, and long nails who checked our ID's when we ordered drinks which is a plus of course. The drinks were strong and served as doubles. I only got to try the mozzarella sticks cause we were unsure on how to order food since it was a group thing. The mozzarella sticks were great. My bf's parents live in the area and we all decided to get dinner in the area for a change, as opposed to driving to another part of SI. The bf's father raved about their steak, which was what he and the bf ended up getting. I decided to get an order of their fried pickles to share with the table and to also get a mushroom pizza. The food portions are gigantic at this place, and for their price points, it's a steal. They have great drink deals, as one would expect from a neighborhood dive bar. Unfortunately, I found my pizza to be extremely greasy. So, why the 4 stars? This is a great place to come if you're a steak lover, as my bf and his father happen to be. This place also felt, to me, unlike many other places that I've been to around the rest of the boroughs.
