UPDATE: Coffee is still the best in LA. Service is still stellar and full of smiles! They are still keeping it weird and keeping up with community (usually see some flyers about local events). We were in the mood for some locally owned coffee and we were having breakfast at Homestate on a lazy Saturday morning so I checked Yelp to see what was nearby. Unincorporated popped up! We decided to swing by. I ordered the fancy latte and boy was it tasty! I tried it with almond milk and it's definitely on the sweet side! It was so good! Well, it looks like another 5 stars for Unincorporated Coffee. My first time visiting here and it lived up to all the hype. The staff was about as friendly and welcoming as I've encountered anywhere. They made us feel like regulars despite the fact we'd never been in before. The coffee was outstanding. My sig other had the "fancy latte" and both of us thought it was absolutely one of the best lattes we've ever had. I ordered the drip - which was not my cousin Carl as one might think - no, the drip was Unincorporated's medium dark roast and it was velvety and delicious. The interior is clean, cool, and smells amazing. And again, the staff. Once we had our drinks and were sitting at one of the cute tables, the staff engaged with us without a hint of falseness. They were friendly, authentic humans full of love. Thank you, Unincorporated for one the best coffee experiences in LA County! My favorite coffee spot in north east LA. I've been going here since before they expanded and now it's even nicer. Even though I no longer live in LA, I still make a trip out here when I visit. There's both indoor and outdoor seating if you like to lounge or work at coffee shops. It's a very clean and relaxing vibe. The coffee is of course excellent. I like the iced latte or chai latte. hmm. Came back to this place once I was in the area and they did a pretty thorough rebrand in the past few months. Unfortunately as they're trying to expand operations is the cafe, the coffee has gone down hill. Last time I ordered a " cup of coffee" from the menu is was $3 something, now its $4 and it only comes in 16 oz cups. The profile is pretty dark, I don't know if they offer others instead of the dark roast. Who ever was on reg 12/13 in the morning seemed like she didnt want to be there and was not friendly or helpful in anyway. I don't know if I'll try this again, very underwhelming. My recommendation: Seems like alot of your guests appreciate the craft behind the coffee. keep the espresso medium roast instead of the dark medium it is now and add a lighter roast to your premade arsenal. read more

The coffee was rich and flavorful, with no bitter aftertaste. The cranberry orange scone paired perfectly with Paco's Delight. Crunchy on the outside, it was moist and flavorful with a lovely citrus zing. I also really loved the neighborhood feel of UCR. People were greeted by name and there's a super friendly vibe here. I am a Altadena native and I have been coming to this coffee shop since it opened. I love the ambiance and the delicious smell of freshly roasted coffee when I walk in. At this point I just stick to getting an americano because it gets the job done and it's a very nice brew. I will say I don't like how pricey the other options are but with this kind of gentrified establishment it's expected. My favorite barista is Erin. He is always so delightful when I come in!! He quite literally might be the only reason I put up with the rest of the baristas attitudes and the high price point..The rest of the baristas are a hit or a miss depending on how they feel that day. I have had experiences with the others that almost made me not come back. A couple of times I have asked for my drink hot and they serve it iced and I politely ask for a hot one and I have been given SO much attitude. As much as I paid for the drink I expect for it to be how I ordered it.. When you come to this establishment you can expect for good coffee at a high price point, mediocre pastries (that I wouldn't bother purchasing), and baristas that might or might not have an attitude that day (excluding Erin, he's great). Tip to the owner- talk with your baristas about the attitude, get better pastries, change the mural outside to accurately depict the neighborhood, and fix the door?? I'm on a quest to try just about every coffee spot in NELA/Pasadena. Part of it is that I'm a coffee junkie and a part of it is, I just don't want to drink the nationwide brands as I used to. I found Unincorporated Coffee Roasters via Yelp and I had to go. When they say Unincorporated, they're not kidding. Unless you are specifically looking for it, it's a hidden nook in a small shopping center. I went inside and was rather impressed. They have a minimalist decor and straight to the point. Yet, it feels welcoming. You don't feel like you have to rush to get out. The owners (?) were very nice and very talkative to the customers. They greeted me like I was an old friend and they knew it was my first time there. That's seriously dope. Now, let's get to the bad part - I really didn't like the Chai Me A River. Honestly, I took a few sips and each sip reminded me of cough syrup or Jager, which kinda tastes like cough syrup. I think it might be a situation where the drink would've been better hot. Something for the owners to consider. The great part - the almond croissant and omgggggggggg.....it's to die for! I really love. I would actually go out of my way to get that, honestly. One of my fave coffee places! My husband and I always go for the Fancy Latte, it's super sweet and creamy. It never disappoints. Sometimes we treat ourselves and get the yummy cookies. The staff here is always friendly and the place is a vibe. They recently expanded their space so there's some seating inside along with some outdoor tables! Located in a tiny plaza with tight parking. I would street park. The ordering direction threw me off- the entrance is in front of the pickup counter so people are waiting there and the ordering register is further in. Tried the lil sumtin which is a lavender honey latte with vanilla almond milk. I was hesitant because I don't like almond milk but it's what they recommended and I could only hope it's not prominent in the latte. The espresso part was good and I should've changed the milk for personal preference. Would like to try more of their drinks when I'm ever in the area or after hiking on the nearby trail! read more

If you love coffee this shop will exceed your expectations. They roast their own beans on site and have developed relationships with their primary source farmers that allows them to get really great single source beans as well as make their own blends. The espresso shots they pull are consistently full bodied with lots of depth. I spoke to the owner and they calibrate their machines every morning and keep the shop at a consistent temperature so their grinders perform at the same level each time. They are real coffee nerds of the highest level. I am a coffee nerd as well and have my own set up at home. I bought the same grinder they have and use their beans, and I still can't get the flavor they can pull. Also, they get to know their customers, and it's much like "Cheers" where everyone knows your name. I went to Stumptown down the street and it's not as good. Haven't gone to Highlife so can't speak to their shots. Having said that, I am confident that you will have a hard time finding a better place to experience espresso based drinks or a pour over. They also have ample outdoor seating in the back. read more

They have a number of different cold and hot beverages on their menu. They also have a variety of beans you can take home as well as a few beverages in the fridge. All were fairly priced and redeemable with their point system if you are a frequent flyer. There have been so many rave reviews for this coffee shop that I came in with very high expectations, but I was incredibly let down. The staff was friendly enough. The service was neither here nor there. What really let me down was the coffee itself. My husband and I ordered two different hot flavored lattes and both of them just genuinely were not good. It really didn't taste like either of them even had espresso in it. They both tasted like overly sweet steamed milk and the temperature was tepid and unpleasant. I'm not sure why this was the case because I watched the barista make the drinks, so it wasn't as if they were sitting out. I only got through about half of my latte and then I threw it out. It truly tasted like I was drinking a cup full of sugar. This is a pretty small shop and there wasn't too much space to sit and relax, so we ended up taking our drinks to go. I really don't understand how this place is so highly rated. I've not sure I've ever had a latte that was as bad as what we had here. Maybe it was a one off experience, and it will be better the next time we try, but I definitely will not be rushing back here. read more

Apparently they have a lot of regulars bc staff seemed to know everyone. Unincorporated not only serves you coffee but also sells merch, coffee equipment as well as their own brand of coffee beans and brew. One thing I need to go back for is that cold brew to have at home. I tried two different brews from unincorporated, one of which was their coffee tonic. I was grateful for the suggestion but this is definitely a weird and acquired taste. Their cortado on the other hand was great. Pastries were amazing definitely try their strawberry croissant.
