Every Chicago suburb has places like Union Bar & Grill and 90% of them give their residents a great place to catch a game - maybe on a patio - while enjoying wings, or a wrap, or a solid burger. Union is absolutely that place, but the wife and I thought the food and service were above average. The inside space looks like a million other bars - beer signs, diamond plating, open ceilings that are lined with televisions, but it was clean. The wife and I opted to sit on out front on their patio. Our server Ashley was fantastic. Super friendly, and attentive (our beers never sat empty). She knew the menu inside and out and she recommended the Greek Chicken Pita for my wife - which was delicious. Definitely better than average. I got opted for the Patty Melt. The Patty was huge, nicely seasoned, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. If you're in the neighborhood, looking for a place to watch the game and grab some food, this is a good choice. Nice local spot with good bar food and the prices are good. The servers clearly did not want us in here, and I'd recommend not bringing kids even though it states "Has kids' menu" on their Google Page (Guessing bringing the kiddos was our mistake) If you're looking for a local bar with lots of TVs to watch sports, and solid Apps (nachos and cheese curds were really good) then Union is a good spot to check out. read more

Union Bar & Grill small place for a quick drink, get together or current sports venue lots of TV's to watch from. Food menu is mostly finger foods like sandwiches, burgers and appetizers. I had the mushroom swiss burger cooked medium well, wow tasty burger the juices was literally bursting with flavor lol. Ambiance quiet during lunchtime but towards the end got busy the lunch crowd started to pile in. Service my waitress was Kirsten very nice and kept asking if I needed anything she definitely earned her tip. Only problem i noticed is probably management related Kirsten was the only employee running around from running the bar, waiting on tables, serving the food i felt bad for her could you imagine if it was a full dining room how can one person attend to everyone. So yeah if you're reading this Union Bar Grill owner make sure you get Kirsten some help poor gal. Overall great food and service will be back. read more

I visited Union Bar for the first time with a group of friends. We were there in the early afternoon, and the place was nearly empty. We were able to put a few tables together and sit comfortably without any other patrons near us. The restaurant was clean, quiet, and comfortable. I don't recall the name of our server, but she was friendly and attentive. I thought the prices were extremely reasonable as well. One friend had a salad while another friend had wings and mozzarella sticks. My friend Linda had the U nachos, and the rest of us ordered burgers. The food is decent. It's not the best food ever, but it's certainly edible. I thought the portion size of the fries was a little too small, but other than that, I have no complaints. My sister liked the tater tots, but she said they were too hard. She thought the oil they were cooked in could have been old. I'd probably visit this location again. It was a nice alternative to all the chain restaurants on LaGrange and/or 159th. The waitress was pretty cool about splitting the check as well. Great Prices, and I enjoy their healthy selections which include Salmon or shrimp salad or sandwich Greek Chicken Pita. Or get a twisted bacon dog for $11 with fries! ( not the healthiest but still yummy) Super busy most days but service is good considering. Very loud ambiance so a work meeting here would be not a good idea. Get a drink play some slots and soak in the testosterone as the buff staff and tradesman still here after work talk louder and louder to get their "important" opinions about said game or whatever else they yell about to each other across the bar read more

Stopped in while driving by to find a place to eat while in town The atmosphere is great and some reviews say it's loud but it's a sports bar so... Excellent service and our waitress was very attentive. We started with the Sausage and Peppers appetizer which is a slightly spicy "brat" type of sausage with grilled peppers and onions in a wonderful broth. Next we got the onions rings ( typical but good) and we split a Hangover Burger which had bacon, cheese, and an egg cooked perfect. No big deal that we split that or wanted no bread. You could be anywhere and odds are that that spot would outperform this one bc this one is so, so average. There is not one single thing about this place that is different from any other ordinary sports bar in the area. Sticky plastic flip charts for the menu, a bartender who wants to be anywhere else but here and zero atmosphere. The thing I don't get with these types of places is the obvious lack of care in making it an experience for customers. It's just an ordinary bar. read more

This is one of our go to spots. Can't believe I haven't heard of it sooner since we've lived a little North of union bar for over 10 years. Aside from me loving the memorabilia since I was a union electrician, the food snaps. Literally everything I've eaten there is awesome. My number one is the steak sandwich, followed by the mother clucker, and then the MAC burger. I do wish they still did the monthly burger specials because those were really fun to try. The drinks are made well too. The bartenders and waitresses are usually always on top of their game and we've become familiar faces to them so they chat with us now too. Love this place! read more

Lots of flavor and quality ingredients. Next, the entrees were outstanding. Steak salad was tender and fresh with a hearty portion. I have been here several times. The food is always good (the hamburgers are excellent). It does get pretty busy, and when there are a lot of people there, the place is so loud that it's hard to have a conversation with the people at your table. first time here! the vibe feels like a bdubs with the many tv screens but a more open layout and i LOVE the high chairs. chili was okay. you had the option of cheese/no cheese and onions/no onions which are essential to chili but having options is nice to have. it came in a cardboard cup and a plastic spoon. on the side were some saltine crackers. simple chili but simple def goes a long way i got the union burger with american cheese. i appreciated having the patty and the toppings separated and for you to put it all together so that the toppings don't get soggy. medium rare and it was cooked as requested so im happy about that! there was only one tomato and more than enough onions so proportions are a little off... i appreciated the pickle on the side because i personally don't like pickles and if there were slices on the burger, yes i could take them off but the juices and the flavor of the pickle will still be there so kudos to them. crinkle cut fries as my side and i love crinkle cut fries and they were perfectly salted :) overall, good experience and will probably be back! however there wasss a fly around and it did land on our food :/ luckily, we were done eating though but something to look out for! This is a great local place to come for dinner and drinks, or just drinks! We come here often to watch the games. And no seat is a bad seat as they have screens all around the bar/restaurant. The food is consistently delicious. The standard drinks are good, but they need a little work on the specialty drinks. They just aren't as good as other bars. The bathrooms are clean and so is the rest of the restaurant. The staff is also friendly and attentive. read more

So this was the third time I was in on a Tuesday just for the tacos. Shrimp and chicken tacos are wonderful. However the best part came later, the guy sitting next to me at bar ordered wild rice cream of chicken soup to go. He said it was good. I'm kinda a soup snob and semi reluctantly ordered one to go as well. Too often soup can be very salty especially in a bar. Let me tell you hands down it was one of the best soups I've ever eaten in my life. Creamy loaded with tender chicken, I almost licked the bowl. I have ordered from Union Bar and Grill before and the food is actually pretty good. However, I will NEVER return due to the unprofessional service provided by the so-called manager "Kristen" or "Krysten", I'm not sure on the right spelling. My fiancé and I ordered a burger and salad. They forgot my dressing for the salad. Very disappointing because I'm a person who can't really enjoy a salad without dressing. I didn't think it was a huge deal, but my fiancé called to let them know I had to eat my salad without the dressing. From the start, the manager was the most unprofessional "manager" he's spoken to. From the moment she picked up the phone she did not want to hear us out. She told us next time we come in we could get "as many dressings" as we want. My fiancé was not pleased by this and had to ask for a credit for the dressing that we paid for. She didn't even offer that from the start. It's not even about the cost or price of the dressing, it's the principle. She argued on the phone with him and even said "oh my god" to my fiancé as if it was like WE were inconveniencing for calling her, but I had to eat a dry salad. This isn't even the worst part. He put "Kristen" or "Krysten" on the speaker phone and she started to argue with us, and when I finally spoke up on speaker I asked for her name and she refused to give her name at first. I told her what she can do is fine, but that she should not be speaking the way she is because it's rude and unprofessional. She kept speaking over me and arguing. When I tried to speak nicely to her she was the worst manager I have ever looked spoken to. I admit I got very heated at the end of the call. I'm a laidback and understanding person, but the way she spoke to us was disgusting as an employee and us as a customer who paid money multiple times at this place. Because of Kristen or Krysten, we will never be back. I was okay with whatever she could do to help us, but because she spoke to us the way she did, we will never be back. Fantastic place! Almost every bar has a food menu and the first thing that comes to mind is "bar food", this place is far from that term. I've tried a number of things from the menu and everything has been top notch and great quality food! I would highly suggest any of the burgers and definitely try the Filet Steak Sandwich! Aside from all the typical alcohol and domestic beers, there are handful of local craft beers on tap and canned too. As far as atmosphere, it's a very fresh and clean type feeling. The staff is constantly cleaning and wiping everything down. The owners and staff are all very attentive and you can tell that their goal is for you to feel welcome! There are more then enough TV's for there not to be a single bad seat in the place. Bathrooms were spotless and well kept. It's great to have a family owned place like this in the neighborhood where you can grab a drink and a great meal! Highly recommended! read more

My friends walked in and asked for a table away from the door. There were other tables available but the host refused to seat them and then was rude to them. Brand new and it shows. Ordered the pretzel bites appetizer, the meatball sandwich, the twisted bacon dog, a soft drink and water. Appetizer came with cheese sauce, and came out quick and hot. Sandwiches were served as we finished our appetizer, right on time, no wait, perfect. Drinks were refreshed as needed, the wait staff was attentive, Even the manager stopped by to ask how everything was going. The bacon dog was a better quality hotdog and came on a poppy seed bun. The meatballs were tasty and served with what could be a "homemade" sauce on garlic toasted bread. The bread seemed low quality or stale, a little too chewy for my liking. Both sandwiches came with fries that have seasoning salt on them, makes you thirsty, I understand. Everything was served in plastic, cups , baskets, even the fork and knife but that might be do to the virus. Overall a nice experience, plenty of TV's to watch sports but the menu is limited. This place is a great addition to Tinley Park. They did not skimp on the important details. Their kegs and canned/bottled drinks are kept COLD (their coolers stated 34 degrees). I also noticed my wine came from a wine fridge. Something you don't usually see around here. More so, the wine I ordered, which I'm assuming was the house wine since I didn't specify, was a bottle that retails at $20. In addition, my husband noted that their TVs are high quality, so if you want to catch a game, it's a great spot to do so. Next time I will try their food. Mostly everyone was eating around me without hesitation, so I'm thinking it tastes as good as it looks. Finally, the staff keeps this place CLEAN and the bar is free of clutter. This is a family owned and operated business. From talking to the staff, I feel they care about their establishment and customers. Right now they are new. Be kind.
