Absolutely appalling service. Two weeks ago, we booked an indoor table. We arrived and there was a loud bingo game going on. The restaurant never advertised that and refused to seat us outside so we left. Tonight, I need a meal to be delivered. I took a chance and that was a HUGE mistake. One of the meals was not in the bag. I called and spoke to the manager who told me that I could either pick up a new salad or I had to pay for an Uber to deliver it. When I argued and said that was terrible customer service, he put me on hold and checked with the kitchen. He came back on to tell me that the kitchen placed the salad in the bag and that I was lying. As I pushed back, he hung up on me. TRULY DISGUSTING. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT. If you're considering Union Burger in Southampton--especially with children--stay far away. Our experience was absolutely disgraceful. We arrived as a family with two babies and were treated with shocking rudeness and hostility. Even worse, management refused to serve us and showed no compassion, professionalism, or basic respect. We were made to feel humiliated and unwelcome simply for arriving with our children. A restaurant that treats a family this way does not deserve anyone's business. If this is how management behaves in front of customers, I can only imagine what other standards are ignored behind the scenes. There are plenty of restaurants in Southampton that value their customers. Do yourself a favor and choose literally anywhere else. Best burgers by far!! My daughter, her fiance and I passed Union Burger on our way to the 1708 House for the weekend and decided we would stop there for lunch. Best decision ever...I loved everything about this restaurant! I liked the overall good feel of the restaurant, great bar and our waiter, Diego was super friendly and accomodating! We started with mozzarella sticks and they were BIG, like double the size of any other I've seen, cooked perfectly and really tasty dipping sauce. This is a must have to start off your delicious meal! Next came the burgers...I can honestly say that as far back as I can remember, my burger at Union was the BEST burger I ever had, seriously!! Even tastier than All American which was my former favorite! The flavor, cooked to perfection and the bun made it all perfection! My daughter and her fiance ordered a mac and cheese burger and said it was their new favorite! I ordered the onion rings and they were beer battered, also delicious! Something tells me that there's not one thing you could order here that would not be short of outrageously delicious! I also liked the many options of types of burgers, toppings and bun choices too! The waitress was a little off, it was almost comical. She asked if we wanted another beer after we had taken maybe 3 sips of our original beer. She came over twice asking if we knew what we wanted. The first time she asked us, we had JUST sat down. She came over midway thru our meal to ask how it was and that's usually when people ask "would you like another drink" and my husband would have said yes at that point but she didn't ask. As I'm still chewing but my plate is mostly empty she asked if she could take it, I said no I'm not done yet. That is a major pet peeve of mine. If I am chewing then DON'T take my plate! My black and bleu burger was juicy, and topped with strips of crisp bacon, all ingredients tasted in every bite which I for one, feel is key! Our first at the restaurant dining experience in 4 months! During this COVID-19 Phased Reopening, how much do we forgive when writing a review? Wait service in the Hamptons in the summer already is working with modified expectations. Social distancing on the lawn: no problem. We were the first clients of the morning, so it is not like the kitchen or staff was overwhelmed yet. Everything was prepared excellently. The burgers were cooked to perfection. The first French fries in 4 months were tasty. The fried pickles were hot from the fryer and the perfect balance of vegetable/vinegar/breading. The shake was definitely photo-worthy. Then there were the problems. One of the draft beers was not available - has happened a hundred times. The specified brioche bun came out as a pretzel bun. The 'appetizer' order of fried pickles arriving 10 minutes after the burgers - cold burgers - hot pickles. The shake arriving another 10 minutes after that - did they think it was dessert? Not understanding basic if/then/else logic - unforgivable. "IF you can make the ($14) Cookie Monster shake with chocolate ice cream, then I want that. Otherwise, I want the plain ($8) chocolate shake." Need I tell you what came to the table? The $14 vanilla version; when asked about it the server just answered "yes." Union Burger Bar might be in the process of rebranding as well. Was it not "Union Cantina" before "Union Burger Bar" and the new logos are "Union @Bowden Square - Steak and Sushi" : that cannot help. As I started by saying, service is never expected to be professional during the summer. During this Phased Reopening, restaurants are hit hard from all sides - lack of labor, lack of usable capacity, and lack of customers lead the list, but the service that does exist needs to be moderately competent if they expect to keep the few customers they have. read more
