Unfortunately, this was an extremely disappointing experience, especially because we came to celebrate a bachelorette party and were looking forward to having a fun and memorable meal together. Instead, from the moment we arrived, we felt unwelcome. The staff did not greet or acknowledge our group, and the service was extremely slow despite there being only about three occupied tables outside and absolutely no guests dining inside the restaurant. The most upsetting part of our experience happened when our waitress accidentally dropped/spilled hot coffee, burning two girls in our group. We understand that accidents can happen, but what was unacceptable was how the situation was handled afterward. The restaurant team did not immediately acknowledge the seriousness of what happened or show the level of concern you would expect after guests were burned by hot coffee. We waited approximately 15 minutes before the manager finally came to our table to acknowledge the incident. Even then, rather than immediately apologizing and taking responsibility for what had happened, she stated that she would "see" whether there would be a discount. After two guests were physically burned, we expected much more urgency, compassion, and professionalism from management. The entire experience--from not being welcomed or greeted, to the unusually slow service in a nearly empty restaurant, to the dismissive response after two members of our party were burned--left our group feeling extremely uncomfortable. Given the way we were treated, we also could not help but question whether racial bias may have played a role in our experience. We cannot speak to anyone's intentions, but the treatment we received left us feeling unwelcome and unfairly treated. What was supposed to be a special bachelorette celebration unfortunately became a very upsetting and disappointing experience. Guest safety should always be a priority, and when an accident involving hot coffee occurs, the immediate concern should be for the people who were injured--not whether management might offer a discount. We left feeling disrespected and deeply disappointed by the lack of urgency, accountability, and compassion shown by both the staff and management. What an absolute Ship-Show... I was certain we were being Punk'd. At any moment I expected Ashton Kutcher to spring out from behind a curtain, headset dangling around his neck, laughing and pointing. But alas, there were no hidden cameras. This was sadly not a joke. And we weren't laughing. Our party arrived for dinner at roughly 8:30p, a full 90 minutes prior to the "Kitchen Closes at 10p" posted cut-off time. The staff behaved as though we rolled up at 9:58p. While we were excited about our meals, the Shippy's team was very clearly already done for the night. After navigating the waitlist and a hi-top bar table, we landed in our seats and placed our orders. We were there for dinner -- sadly our waitress was out to lunch. We ordered two burgers, two wurst platters, and two steak entrees. They got one of those six orders correct, while the other five went up in flames. Both wurst orders were cold. They were sent back to the kitchen, and came back cool. The two steak entrees -- one a filet, the other a strip -- were reversed. The filet came undercooked (arrived medium rare when medium well had been requested) while the strip, which was ordered medium rare, came in medium well. And of the two smash burgers, one was delicious. The other was missing. In fact, the food arrived in strange phases. One overcooked entree. By itself. Five minutes later, two cold entrees. Another five minutes, an undercooked entree, followed by the lucky smash burger. Twenty minutes later, and after multiple reminders, the final smash burger arrived. Clearly it had never been ordered and needed to be rushed. And "rush" is rather generous. Obviously the goal of a meal is for all entrees to arrive, at the proper temperatures, simultaneously. I've seen a snail wade through molasses at a better pace than this dinner service. However, perhaps the most frustrating part of this experience was the overall lack of urgency by the staff. As our table sat bewildered, our waitress was nowhere to be found. The staff was wiping down tables, cleaning menus, polishing check presenters, and all while we sat with cold, dead, and missing food. Our table was sinking fast, and instead of tossing us a life raft, Shippy's stood on the shoreline waving us Bon Voyage. Ultimately we had to call upon the manager, who tried her best but was without answers. There was nothing for her to do except remove one entree from the bill. In truth, the full meal should have been comped. It was that bad. And these were only the major issues. There were also wine mixups, dirty plates that stayed around longer than unwanted relatives at Thanksgiving, and empty glasses strewn about the table like red Solo beer cups at a fraternity party. To call the visit disappointing would be like referring to the Titanic as a row boat. This thing was an absolute disaster with Shippy's taking on water like a sea vessel made of Swiss cheese. Despite issues with temperature, speed, accuracy, and attentiveness, we still managed to spend nearly $400. It would have been more productive to simply burn a wad of cash right there at the table -- at least then we could have warmed up the wurst. read more

Judging by other reviews, this seems to be a consistent behavior that the staff has exhibited on multiple occasions. With the food being mediocre, the experience here has left a bad taste in my mouth. Yelp is asking for what can be improved? The culture of this business starts from the top down. If this behavior has been displayed on multiple occasions, then clearly management has green lit these actions. So, from the mediocre food to the horrible service, DO NOT GO HERE! read more

We met friends at this bustling restaurant in Southampton. The crowd was lively. Our waitress was nice. The cocktails were excellent. After a lag, we were served some warm bread. There' was a prix fixe menu with 3 courses for $46. It was a great deal. The food was uniformly excellent. I had potato leek soup and locally caught stuffed flounder. My wife had great shrimp scampi. Our friends had a smash burger and chicken schnitzel. We all had a bite of my brownie à la mode for dessert. There were a couple of minor service miscues. Most notably, my wife's entree was served 5 minutes after the others and there was a misunderstanding about one of the desserts. Overall a really good restaurant- would be happy to return. 4.5 stars. read more

I came here the other day for my birthday with my father. We went for a Sunday brunch, which was really nice. They have a bar area, and also a beer garden. The staff is all very friendly and attentive. Luckily when we went, it wasn't very busy. I ordered myself a mimosa, which was nice. For the main dish I ordered the veal schnitzel sandwich. My dad ordered the Ruben. The sandwich that I got was so good. The bread, the meat all the toppings. Totally worth it. The french fries you can taste are very fresh. You can tell that they make them in house. They're not greasy. My dad said his Reuben was really good as well. The corn beef was amazing. Beyond the burgers, Shippy's boasts a great happy hour with some attractive specials. The bar itself is comfortable and inviting, perfect for a casual drink or a more extended visit. The overall atmosphere is far more laid-back than many of its competitors, creating a genuinely enjoyable and unpretentious dining experience. I've been coming to Shippy's for awhile now and this was my first visit back after the remodel. The place looks great and there's an outdoor beer garden now. I had reservations for 1 PM and we arrived at 12:50 PM. The hostess at the front says she can seat us and points to a front table at the windows. The entire restaurant was empty inside at this point with a few people at the bar, most were sitting outside. We asked can we sit further back. She tells us we would have to wait ten minutes. I was confused as again the indoor tables were empty. We say ok, one of us went to the bathroom as I waited. She then tells me to go wait at the bar( seems to be annoyed I am waiting even though she told me to wait). Fine, I went to the bar and decided to STAY at the bar and eat. The bartender COULD not be NICER and accommodating! Drinks were delish. Now, tbh we almost left after the hostess thing. She also didn't tell us there was a different menu outside. That may sway your choice when choosing which area to eat. Shippy's has changed the menu to only brunch on weekends and lunch is only midweek just as a head's up. I miss the turkey club and that's the reason I went, so if you are looking for the old lunch menu on the weekend, it is no longer available. Again, thank you to the bartender for being so nice. It's hard to choose a place to eat in Southampton. There are so many options within walking distance and all of them are on the expensive side, so you really want to choose right if you're spending the money to eat here. After looking at a bunch of options we decided on Shippy's. There's just something cozy the atmosphere of this place that makes it more approachable than other options in the area, plus it's been here forever so it has staying power. We arrived early on a Friday night without a reservation and were still able to be seated inside. I ordered a cocktail off the menu that was basically a Moscow mule with tequila, and it hit just right. Looking around at what everyone else was eating we decided to go with the wedge salad, mussels and French onion soup as appetizers. The French onion soup was just okay, but the mussels and wedge salad were stand outs. I loved the crispy onions on top, and the mussel sauce was so creamy. We decided on veal schnitzel and the sizzling steak (which literally comes out sizzling) for our mains, and they were outstanding as well. The sauerkraut and potatoes that come with the schnitzel go so well together, and the steak was cooked perfectly rare (even with it still sizzling on its arrival). Hello yelpers! This is my first time here at Shippy's restaurant and I must tell you, we had an awesome experience. We came down tonight to listen to the live music of Monica, and had an awesome dinner. For starters, we had the lobster bisque soup (very creamy, buttery and full of sweet lobster that was so tender) and we split the wedge salad which was loaded with bacon, fried onions and blue cheese! For dinner, my wife had the delicious veggie burger and I had the smash burger! Both were amazing! The ambiance at shippy's is truly amazing! The place is decorated so nicely with subway tiles on the wall and panels. There are booths to sit at or tables along an open wall. In the back of the restaurant, there are 2 oversized semicircle booths. The place was great and I look forward to returning. read more

Hostess didn't want to seat us in a quiet booth (we had an elderly person with us) because of the "sections ". Ordered the smashburger with 1 patty and I was still charged the $22 (or whatever the price is) and was never told that I would be charged the whole price (I've ordered that way before and was charged $10). Went to Shippy's for the first time a couple nights ago with a group of 4. The atmosphere was really cute and lively, didn't feel like we were in the Hamptons. Much more of a New England casual feel than the typical Hamptons restaurant, but I liked it. We started sat outside but it began to rain and they quickly accommodated everyone who wanted to move inside with ease. However our food took about 2 hours to arrive which was insane and we didn't fully realize cause we were chatting but nevertheless that's absurd. The waitress was also very rude, she screamed at the hostess right in front of our table and then proceeded to not address us and just rudely stroll past. The food was good, we got the baked clams, fried chicken sandwich, and the smash burger. All were very good actually and comforting; again food that is definitely lacking out here. Overall the food was good but the service was not, hoping it was a one off experience but I most likely would not return. read more

Trying to really like this place. The concept is good. The space is also good. They just need to tighten up a few things. Notably the beer: an impressive selection of German beer, but unfortunately, they don't seem to know how to manage, handle, and serve it. Often under carbonated, served in a frosted glass, (which you'll never say in any German establishment) splashed into the glass instead of poured properly, and served in a mishmash of mismatched glasses: you're likely to get a Pilsner in a Weisse class and vice versa...simple things to address. It's just a matter of taking the very good beer selection imported from Germany and managing it properly. read more

We have enjoyed "Shippy's" in its current and past iterations and routinely order their signature Veal Schnitzel - it tne past "augmented" with a fried egg on top! This week promptly ordered Schnitzel and a cocktail. The veal "cutlet" was a profound dissapointment. Advised the courteous server and the Manger of the "tough, tough" texture of the veal. The Manager suggested it had been "pounded" a little too much! Not likely. I took most of the not-eaten veal home, stripped the breadcrumbs and realized a not-so-tender cutlet. "I" pounded and tired to salvage the remains and it simply was not a great cutlet. Will definetly return and be much more cautious with menu selection. Sad as the new owner "John" has done such a masterful job in sustaining this otherwised outstanding eatery! Hope things improve. read more

Visited on Friday May 30th with a reservation for 2 people at 7:15pm. Upon arrival we were told we'd have to wait for "five minutes" for a table. This was fine until we found ourselves waiting for a whooping 34 minutes before we were seated at a table. This was an insane wait time for a table we'd set a reservation for. Additionally, during this, another couple came in after we had been waiting for 15 minutes and greeted the main hostess/manager whom they were clearly friends with. They then received a table BEFORE we were sat down despite their later arrival than us. This clear bias is quite frankly disrespectful and unfair to other customers. We appreciated the male manager's attempt to make up for the time lost through refunding the cheapest dish we ordered. However, the female manager/main hostess's clear disregard for us did not go unnoticed. As returning customers, we were excited to revisit Shippy's. However, this situation put a damper on our experience before it even began. With reference to the food, the clams casino, filet mignon, and mac and cheese were quite tasty. The warm pretzel beer cheese and brownie however were not up to their usual standard. My brownie was quite dry and tasted stale which was unfortunate because It was the reason for our visit as we loved them previously. Based on our previous visit, and the recent visit, my partner and I decided 3 stars reflected our experience. read more

I've been going to the new Shippy's since the reopening and it keeps getting better. The happy hour food specials rock! The dinner menu has a few deals on there, the shrimp cocktail, shrimp scampi and the NY strip steak. French onion soup is the real deal too. I've been going to Southampton last few years and was always intrigued by Shippy's from the outside - looked like a very cool vintage pub. Finally got an opportunity to try it and loved the experience. The restaurant has great decor, very comfortable seating on banquettes and nice chairs. Service was very friendly and super good value for the Hamptons. We had an enormous Turkey Club that was fantastic. Also the Pretzel as an App was amazing. Huge and Tasty. They have a $15 daily food special which offers an amazing bargain for the expensive town of Southampton. The bar also looked very nice so I plan on coming back many times in the future. read more
