    The Executive Burger
    Katy K.

I usually don't have very high expectations for pub food, but this spot consistently sets the bar. Great beer selections on tap, and their food has high quality ingredients that really make a difference. The chickpeas on the kale salad I ordered were perfectly crispy, and my husband really enjoyed the executive burger with the thick cut bacon. The live music also adds a great touch on the weekends. A top contender of all the breweries along the 101.

    Short rib ragu!! Sooooo delicious!

Celebrated my sister's birthday (17 friends!) in the beautifully lit back patio of Union. The service was efficient and friendly especially for a large group. I ordered the short rib ragu and it was so flavorful and delicious. I finished the whole thing! Great value too. My husband got the gumbo and he enjoyed it. Everyone was so pleased with their choices. There was live entertainment indoors too. They let us bring in a cake and provided plates which was so nice. A fun night was had by all! Looking forward to returning soon.

Went here twice. Once for a late night dinner and then "brunch" a few days later. I can absolutely say go for dinner. I had the fisherman's stew. Essentially a version of ciopoanno. It was amazing. Fresh seafood, amazing slightly spicy broth. Perfect. Nothing overcooked and clearly fresh ever ordering close to closing. Also ordered a ceaser salad- the fried capers LEGIT PERFECT. My husband had the union burger with truffle fries. He said was good. I was too distracted by my dinner to try. "Brunch" on the other hand, was a little disappointing. Hoping it was just a limited menu because it was Father's Day but food was mediocre. Service here is great. Not overly attentive but very great recommendations. Will definitely visit again when I'm back in town.

Delicious brunch menu with well made drinks. We enjoyed the green veggie omelet & skillet cornbread benedict. The service is friendly & the ambiance is industrial & laidback.

This spot is definitely going to be a go to brunch spot when in the area. The Christmas vibes were super cute gave it such a warm and welcoming ambiance. Service and food were great! Would highly recommend it if you're in the area. Has a bunch of seating inside and outside.

Tonight I got the Moroccan quinoa salad. It was fantastic!! I got it with dressing on the side, which was perfect because I could go lighter on the dressing. Next time I might add additional shrimp (I like a lot of shrimp) and I'll get it with no fried garbanzo beans to make it lower calorie. Louise our server was fantastic: friendly and helpful! Perfect meal

Great ambiance and good food! I came here with my family for my dad's birthday recently. I ordered the honey roasted fig flatbread. It was good, but the fries my sister ordered were delicious. Our server was nice and even brought out a little chocolate cake to celebrate my dad's birthday.

Come here for the vibes not the food~ it was such a cute place near the beach, I sat next to the open windows and the fresh air was so nice with the games on the bar TVs. The food was decent but not great. The autumn salad was nice and refreshing but flatbreads were lacking. The honey roasted fig flatbread sounded so good but was such an odd flavor we couldn't take more than two bites; thankfully they have great service and swapped it out for the mushroom arugula flatbread instead which was much better but still not of the better ones I've tried. Short rib fries were so flavorful and delicious - they are more of a poutine which I loved, but my partner did not. Overall would recommend the salad and short rib fries but maybe avoid the flatbreads unfortunately!

Wow. Our experience here was great. The food was very good. We tried the Honey Roasted Fig flatbread and the Executive burger and both were delicious. The fries and bacon from The Executive Burger, and the goat cheese and balsamic from the Honey Roasted Fig flatbread were my personal favorite touches. I found that the figs on the flatbread tasted refrigerated unfortunately. Our server, Brooke S, treated us very kindly and was quick on refills. We came at a slow time in the day, 15:00 on a Friday, but regardless, the ambiance is fun, comfortable, and the restaurant is comfortable and beautifully designed in an elevated rustic manner.

Place was large and they had Halloween decorations up which made it feel festive. We were there on Friday so they had live music (ad toppers say live music 8-11p but went until 10p), the guitarist was really good. Menu had a good variety, we ordered the executive burger and a Moroccan bowl, both were tasty. Our server was good, only thing to call out is the bussers were fast to pick up plates when we're still eating, should ask before taking away plates and drinks.

The food was delicious. The service was questionable. Once food was delivered it was a ghost town. No check ins, no refills, no more drinks. Waited awhile for check and boxes. Food was top tier though.

This was yummy. I had a few drinks and some gumbo. It isn't Louisiana gumbo, but with some salt pepper and Louisiana sauce (they didn't have Tabasco) it tasted ok. I would go back again. The sandwiches and share plates looked amazing.

Love the atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant. Food was delicious and satisfying. Tgey have a great menu; evetything sounding good! We had great service! The only negative was the long wait for food. But... the food was definitely worth the wait. Next time we are in the area, we will come back!

    Special Thanksgiving dinner. Happy Thanksgiving!

BIERGARDEN @ ENCINITAS…read more Parking can be a little difficult since this spot is located right on the main strip in Encinitas. There's parallel street parking throughout the area, so you might get lucky and find a spot nearby. I ended up parking on one of the side streets, which worked out perfectly. I came here on a Sunday afternoon, and it was definitely busy. We had to wait a little while for a table because several tables still needed to be cleaned before they could seat new guests. The staff was incredibly friendly, though, and we were seated as soon as they could. It did take about 15 minutes before a server was able to come over and take our order, but the restaurant was completely packed, so it's something to keep in mind if you're in a hurry. After spending the day at the beach, we were really just in the mood for drinks. I ordered the Blood Orange Margarita, which can be served with Tajín, sea salt, or no rim at all. It was really good and definitely on the stronger side, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that there was a bit too much ice, but the flavor itself was great. The atmosphere is what really makes this place stand out. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, large open windows that let in plenty of fresh air, and a fun, lively vibe that makes it a great place to relax after a beach day. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the ambiance and cocktails, just be prepared for a little wait if you visit during peak hours.

However she still loved the burger. Also all the pictures online show that they have WAFFLE FRIES - THEY DO NOT. The service was good and they were helpful in fixing the issues with the onion rings. Overall, the atmosphere was a little off for me. I felt like the restaurant was a little cluttered with stuff and too eclectic. There were too many different patterns on the walls. LOL. No but seriously, I am completely and utterly in-love with this place. I am a huge sandwich person but so I am particular about where I go. Has to ya know, check alllll the boxes etc. Ernie's has stolen my sammy-heart. I believe I've had every single sandwich on the menu at this point and I enjoyed every single one of them. If I HAD to choose my favorite sandwich, they would be these: -Italian on Dutch crunch roll -Crispy chicken caesar on Dutch crunch roll -Curry chicken salad on focaccia -Tuna on sourdough ( always add the hot pepper salad) *I love the dutch crunch roll for any of the sandwiches but the focaccia also steals the show quite often. I've been here for dinner as well and my recommendations would be: -Charcuterie board -Bruschetta boards ( you pick 2) but my faves are the prosciutto one (the prosciutto is chopped up super small so it's perfect and not all stringy like it can be at times) which comes with mascarpone, pistachios, arugula and lemon curd. My other fave is the brie, green apple with honey and sea salt. Another thing to mention is I'm not a huge brie person BUT I adore it if it's triple cream brie. This my friends, is triple cream so it's fantastic. -The fries are also fantastic and the chocolate chip cookies are fire. I'm not even a sweets person but I inhaled it when I tried it. It was delish. -Italian chopped salad- so good and really light but somehow filling at the same time. In the best way possible. I get it all the time. They have a huge wine selection both at the bar and in their fridge section which you can browse while you're in line. They have a wine club as well! I always love a more local mom n pop type place in general vs chains and this place is just a vibe no matter what time of day you go. The word is definitely out though so it can get busy so cozy up at the bar for a cold one while you wait if you run thirsty like me, ha! Or they have plenty of outdoor seating if you want a ni ce breeze. The owner is rad, the entire staff is sweet, accommodating and overall they just absolutely nailed it here. Go see what all the hype is about, you'll leave with a full belly and a smile.

They were clearly short staffed on Father's Day, so I allowed for that. However, when you're sitting there forever and 3 wait staff are going by you several times and can't even say "someone will be with you shortly ".....not a word. Funny thing is the patios were fairly empty. We would have left, but again we've loved the food here for 14 years so hung in there. Then big mistake was sitting across from the pizza oven! The hostess, who I have to say is an amazing employee, she was literally doing everything. Seating people, cleaning tables, answering the phone, cleaning the stuff off the pizza area, bringing clean pans, getting drinks, etc. BUT she was using those nasty old rags to clean the table, touching the cash register etc., never washed her hands and then she was grabbing handfuls of the fresh basil and ripping pieces and putting them on the pizza, then posting the pizza with her fingers to maybe check it wasn't burned on the bottom? I was literally dying watching this, I'm not even a germaphobe. Then I watched the other waiter who wears dirty baggy jeans wipe his hands in his pants and also manhandle the basil in the same way. So gross. I saw another party get mad because the pizza was not cut, they asked for it to be cut again....and then got angry because they still had to tear at it and everything fell off. When our pizza came....it was the same, but we dealt with it. We ALWAYS get the Butterscotch pudding, but at this point we just wanted out. Had to wait forever to ask for a box and check. I'll miss the old Blue Ribbon as I miss Craftsman sadly, but there are others with actual service, we gave them a chance the last time it was bad, but this is the 2nd and done!

And our server was fantastic. So why, you might ask, only 4 stars in my review. Two reasons: 1). Management has prohibited giving a splash of a beer for someone to sample. Bottom line is that I wanted to order a pint of beer, but I wanted a splash of a couple of beers to try to make my decision. They refused, saying that one must buy a 5oz taster if one wants to taste the beer. I find that policy offensive. In the end I bought a taster to taste the Chuuurch, and then bought an additional pint after. It just seems nickel and dimey, and would be asking to an ice cream place not allowing one to sample their ice creams before buying a cone. I hope management reconsiders this policy. 2. My wife got the Hot Mess Fries and was disappointed not only in the flavor, but also in the misleading advertising. On the menu it specifically said that there was bacon in the fries, but in fact what they put on the fries was either chunks of ham or "Canadian bacon" (which as we all know is a very different thing from "bacon"). If they were or of regular bacon, the kitchen should have told the server this so he could have asked her if she wanted ham as a substitute. And, of they always use ham instead of bacon, them the menu needs to be changed to reflect that.
