10/10 experience! We came with a party of 7 for our monthly girls' night, and from the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. We always joke that we can find amazing food but rarely amazing service, so Campfire completely exceeded our expectations. The starters and small plates absolutely stole the show for me. The crudo, burrata, cornbread (omg the cornbread!) and carrots were incredible, each dish was so thoughtful and packed with flavor. I know the broccoli is a fan favorite, but it was just a little too "campfired" for my personal taste. The flavors were still amazing, though. By the time the entrées came out, I was honestly so full that I don't think I gave them the attention they deserved! And the cocktails... WOW. Some of the best drinks I've ever had at a restaurant. I had a great time at this restaurant. Took a spot in the corner at the bar, I was dining solo, very trendy restaurant, not necessarily fancy by any means, just very hip, very cool. Their mocktail menu awesome. Not all people drink alcohol and sometimes people that don't still want a fun refreshing drink, so appreciate that. I ordered their upper east side, which was mint, cucumber, blue majik (whatever that is) soda and citrus. It was absolutely delicious. They had other really interesting sounding mocktails too, like there was actually thought put into a drink that didn't contain alcohol. I was visiting Carlsbad for the first time and wanted to check out as many restaurants as I could in my short time here so I just ordered something small to get the experience of this place. I chose the crudo: yellowtail, amarillo, charred tomato and guava. The dish was gorgeous, stunning, beautiful and tasted divine. Presentation so on point, flavors, freshness, just so yum. The bartender was so great as well, we made small talk and he told me that if I was into non-alcoholic drinks and fish that I should check out Jeune et Jolie next so I did just that. Appreciated the friendly conversation, great atmosphere and stellar food and drink. Will definitely come back here next time I have an opportunity to visit. Me and my partner came here because my partner wanted to try their charred broccoli. So we got that, the cornbread (waitress said it was a new item), and the market fish trout. The cornbread was easily the best I've ever had -- warm, flavorful, and moist. I don't like cornbread because it's usually dry but my goodness, this cornbread was anything but. It was the best cornbread I've ever had.The broccoli was also the best I've ever had. I'm not a fan of broccoli, but the cooks charred the outside to get such a nice, crispy texture without it tasting burnt. Meanwhile the broccoli stem was cooked to contrast with the crunchy-like bites of the charred head. The market fish trout was good, granted trout was dry and isn't my favorite fish. But I ordered it to pay attention to the other facets of the dish: the puree and mushrooms that accompanied it were the stars. At least the trout skin was crispy. Been here three times now and every time it hits. Today, went by myself and sat at the bar, which is self seating and full service. Passed on the drinks because they start at $18, but went for the broccoli appetizer (incredible as always). Decided on getting the grilled market fish today, but everything I've tried there has been incredible and the fish was no exception. Pricey, dark and may have to work on their available ciders, but their food is top-notch! We came here as a walk-in. A reservation gets you a proper table. Walk-ins usually end up sitting at the communal high top tables. It isn't too bad but a tiny bit uncomfortable for people on the shorter side (like me). The ambiance is fine glamping style so you do want to be just a teeny bit dressed up. Dressing as if you were camping won't quite work in this restaurant. The servers are nice enough but the place is quite loud so you really have to yell to hear each other. My friend and I ordered a bunch of things to share. We got the tomato, the carrot, the broccoli, and the pork belly. I ordered one of their newer ciders but it tasted more like beer than a cider. Among the shareables, the broccoli (which is the most popular) was actually our least favorite. My friend's top choice was the tomato and mine was a very very close tie between the carrot and the pork belly. Those three dishes were unique, absolutely delicious, very different from each other and had a medley of different flavors. The broccoli unfortunately was too oily and felt heavy and single flavor dominant. It wasn't bad but I can't quite see why people aren't about the other clearly superior dishes. We didn't get dessert here because it didn't speak to us. Pricing wise, it is on the pricier side. I guess that is expected for Carlsbad and given who owns this restaurant. The atmosphere was high end but relaxed and not stuffy. The service was stellar from everyone who helped us and we had a wonderful meal. Never did we feel rushed. My friend and I were celebrating and wanted to try a bunch of menu items, and when we ordered, our server kindly suggested that it was going to be a lot of food. We just laughed and said we understood but wanted everything anyway. Totally worth it! The cocktails are delicious and definitely pack a punch and their wine list has excellent by-the-glass options. I had the sweetest waitress, and I sat at the bar because I went right at opening time and there was going to be a really long wait for a table. The bar was huge, and the decorations and the entire ambience was on point. I really enjoyed myself and we had such great recommendations and such great service! I dined here with coworkers and customers for a special fixed-menu, 8-course Campfire Feast. The evening began with Crudo featuring yellowfin tuna, aji amarillo, charred avocado, and guava, followed by Cornbread accented with blood orange, rosemary, pink peppercorn, and hibiscus. Next came Roasted Broccoli with chermoula, lime, and peanuts, and Grilled Carrots with hazelnut, Hungarian pepper, feta, and dill. The meal continued with Grilled Fish served with wild mushrooms, miso, black garlic, and scallions, followed by Ricotta Cavatelli with morel mushrooms, English peas, aged Parmesan, walnuts, and a soft egg. Second visit in a matter of weeks to Campfire and this visit was even better than the first! Began with a cocktail - the Contra Costa but as I don't like mescal they substituted gin and it was amazing! Best cocktail I have had in some time. Then we ordered lots of little dishes and they were all just delicious: The amber roasted prawn was out of this world and perfectly cooked!! The tomato with smoked blue cheese and fired bread was also just delicious! This visit the crudo was bluefin and absolutely delicious- fresh with a perfect sauce! The burrata was great, the broccoli is always a must have and finally for me the carrots were the best I have ever had! The meat eaters also enjoyed the rib eye with cast iron roasted potatoes. We had a table on the outside patio which was so great and the perfect ambiance and finally our server was amazing ! We always have a beautiful experience at this restaurant. We usually have a reservation since we dine with family. They are great with kids and catering food options for them that are off menu. The food is always impeccable. The broccoli is excellent, cornbread, crudo is so delicious. I'm a huge fan of the Cavatelli and rib eye. I haven't had one thing from the menu I didn't like. They offer refreshing cocktails that are always absolutely divine, I had contra costa, Johnny Rooks, and the most delicious Carajillo I've ever had! All their cocktails are absolutely perfection! This was our first Campfire experience, and we went with a group of six. Was it worth it? Yes, and here's why. This place is built for groups. The menu makes it easy to mix and match, whether you order individually or go all-in on shared plates. We chose the sharing route and covered a lot of ground: two Trailhead items (cornbread and porridge bread), three Kindling dishes (crudo, carrot, and their famous broccoli), and two from The Fire (cavatelli and the ribeye with cast iron roasted potatoes). For dessert, we doubled up on the s'mores. Check out the photos. Overall, the food landed at about a 4. The cornbread, broccoli, and cavatelli were clear standouts. The porridge bread had a great texture but needed a little more flavor on its own. The biggest surprise and disappointment was the 18 oz ribeye, which is also the $97 menu item. I had three slices. One slice was nearly half fat, and the other two were tough to cut with noticeable muscle fibers. At that price, I expect all slices to cut like butter. The s'mores were fun and definitely part of the experience, but the vegan marshmallows took a long time to melt. Either smaller marshmallows or hotter baby "campfires" would make a big difference. The vibe here is a big part of the appeal. We lucked out with a table just outside along the street, complete with an overhead heater. It was a nice escape from the high energy inside. That said, even with a reservation for six and arriving on time, we still waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated, even though our table appeared ready. Tony, our main server, however, did a great job guiding us through the menu and keeping everything flowing at a good pace. Would we come back? Yes, absolutely. But we've heard they have a whole family of restaurants along State Street, so we may explore those next before circling back. Came in on Friday evening with my lovely girlfriend. Make reservations because it gets packed! Katie (Katy?) was our server this evening. She was fantastic from beginning to end. She ran through the menu and picked a few favorites from each section of the menu. She explained the menu and the taste profiles of each item so we had an idea of what we were ordering. We ordered the broccoli, cornbread, the carrots, the half chicken entree, the trout and finished with the marshmallow dessert. We also ordered a couple of cocktails which were great. An old fashioned style but with mezcal and a traditional margarita. Wine list was great too! All of the food was a hit. The carrots appetizer was by far the star of the show. The sauce that was paired with it was chefs kiss. The chicken dish had a nice char flavoring that went beyond the char gimmick. The marshmallow dish came out with hot stones so you could roast your own s'more. I came to Campfire to with high expectations, and the expectations were exceeded. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in San Diego. Straight to the food. We got: - cornbread: 10/10 this was fantastic. Great for 2-4 people. Perfectly balanced flavors and dense. - broccoli: 10/10 I'm not going to lie, I read the reviews about the broccoli, and literally asked my husband if we were going to spend $20 on a whole head of broccoli. I was very skeptical to believe this was actually so good, but it was! The textures are really great; the florets are crunchy and the stem is a soft almost buttery texture. The flavors with the nuts and sauce are fantastic. It's a lot for 2 people, and would be ideal for 4 people to share. - market fish 12/10. The best thing we ate, wow it was so good. Every staff member I asked said this was their favorite dish, so of course, I ordered it. The fish was a steelhead trout. It was cooked perfectly, and the sauce, mushrooms, salmon roe, and kale perfectly complemented the dish. The portion is great! It's 6.5 oz, so easy to share. I would come back just for this. - chicken 8/10. This is a good bbq chicken, but it's just good bbq chicken. Nothing special, but tasty nonetheless. I only had a bite since I'm mostly pescatarian, but my husband gladly ate the whole thing. The dining experience is also great! The ambience is beautiful, but the inside is quite loud. We sat by the open door in the back, which was great. I'd either sit in the back again or try to sit outside because of the noise. The service was spot on. They are truly committed to the theme of camping. From the theme of the restrooms to the interior of the restaurant all the way down to the food. But, to me, at the end of the day, it's a restaurant, and serving food that is basically burned to oblivion is probably not great. Even when camping, I would never be charring my food into dust. Got the cornbread, the broccoli head, the ribeye, and smores for dessert. Cornbread was good. Very unique! One of the few things I did like about this place. The broccoli and ribeye was just too much. The broccoli florets were cooked over fire until it was basically ash in mouth. We ate earlier, but she wanted to come here for there cooked broccoli, yes Broccoli! Let me tell you, that was the best broccoli I have ever eaten and will probably be the best I ever eat. Unless I return which I will. They char the top of the broccoli so it's a little crunchy. It was amazing. There kitchen was non-stop busy and all the food looked amazing. If I could give more stars I would... Cocktails Our table ordered the Kentucky crest (pictured), the red rover (pictured), the flamekeeper, and the king rama. By far my favorite was the red rover. It was so light and refreshing- slightly dangerous since I couldn't taste the vodka. A close second favorite was the Kentucky crest. I'm not a huge Bourbon fan but the guava in it was amazing. The pork was good- I wouldn't order it again - just because I would want to try other things on the menu but it was good. The octopus was fantastic. Something I would absolutely come back for. The chorizo added a little spice and there were small slices of grapefruit along with the chimichurri - the flavors worked so well together. I brought some home to my husband- and it traveled well. He was waiting at the door for it and enjoyed it just as much as I did. Trails end We got the vegan sorbet, s'mores (pictured), and a blondie. The vegan sorbet was refreshing. The s'mores definitely was an experience and if it's your first time- it's a must order. But hear me out- the blondie was the best dessert on the menu. Been wanting to try this spot. The inside is gorgeous. It's actually a lot larger than it looks from the outside, but I love the indoor / outdoor seating. They even have a fire pit and a teepee. Very on vibe. But the food is so delicious. I don't think you could go wrong with any item. I will say the portions are on the smaller side, but a lot of the items are pretty rich and so flavorful. Would highly recommend the cornbread, carrot app, love the aji sauce with the crudo. Great date night spot. The lighting is a couple more dessert options would be great. Campfire is one of my favorite spots in Carlsbad, especially after the Wednesday Farmers Market. The food is always delicious and full of flavor. I usually order the fish, and even though the selection changes, it's consistently excellent. The steak is also very good, and their famous broccoli with peanuts and sauce is a must try. I also love the grilled bread with butter and the s'mores for dessert. Their drinks are outstanding, especially the espresso martinis. I will say reading the menu online I was unsure on how many items looked intriguing to order but I can truly say everything we ordered was so good and had incredible flavor. My husband and I loved the pork belly appetizer it literally melted in your mouth it was so good. We ordered everything to share making it so we could have a little bit of everything and we had a great experience. The food was fantastic and the service was even better. A huge shoutout to Katy C who made celebrating my boyfriend's birthday perfect. Summer also checked on us too, and we really appreciated her as well! We ordered the broccoli because from the reviews it is the thing to do. We thought it was a little too charred for our taste, but the sauce was great. We had the peanuts on the side because my boyfriend has a peanut allergy. The oysters were probably my boyfriend's favorite part of the meal and he enjoyed the broth especially. I had the market fish, which was a steelhead trout. It was tender and the sauce was delicious. He had the chicken which he thought was great--because it was his birthday and he loves lemons, I asked if there were any way they could roast a lemon for him because he had seen a picture of them doing that with the whole fish. They made it happen, and he was really pleased with his lemon. Thank you again to Katy C and the kitchen for making this happen! There was also a complimentary blonde for his birthday with a candle on it, which was really thoughtful. Overall, we had an excellent experience at Campfire. I thought there were a lot of details that were extremely thoughtful--the plates had definitely been warmed before serving so everything stayed very warm, and they leaned into the "campfire" experience with small touches like the water pitches were Stanley thermos like you would take camping. Amazing!! I went here on a date recently. The bartenders are very knowledgeable. Highly recommend going a little early and stopping at the bar for a cocktail before dinner. Our dinner exceeded my expectations! We ordered the oysters, cornbread, burrata, carrots, and rib eye. We came in starving and left feeling like we needed to be rolled out of there. A unique experience, that I was curious to try. We ordered; olives, broccoli, carrots, & octopus. This was shared between the two of us. All were very flavorful and I'm inspired to try my hand at roasting broccoli at home like they did! The octopus was extremely savory with little smoky bacon bits. I found I needed the shaved celery to balance out the strong smoky flavor. I highly recommend trying their ginger ale, with their house made syrup (with FRESH ginger)! It balances perfectly the savory flavors of the food. Every single staff member, from the hostess to the bus boy (and EVERYONE in between) were genuinely friendly and pleasant. I keep coming back for the cornbread and broccoli. The cornbread changes often, but it's always so delicious. I get the broccoli without peanuts due to an allergy, and it is so good. The roasted tops are flavorful without being burnt to a crisp and go so well with the soft stalks. The textures in the broccoli dish are amazing. Both the cornbread and broccoli are must haves every time I go to Campfire. Drinks are fantastic, and I love how they change seasonally. Service is friendly and attentive. I appreciate the detail they have with allergies, as I'm allergic to only peanuts and can have all tree nuts. Water cups were always filled. My only wish is that the tables for 2 were bigger because it got a little crowded with our dishes and drinks. Weird staff and vibe. I will never eat this food or go inside. They ignore the customers at the bar and don't socialize in a normal way with rushed speech. The staff is uneducated with the menu and called my wines flavor "cool". The Hipster coded menu is hard to understand with its overly simplistic language and translations. The smoky, wood-fired vibe is incredibly cool and the food absolutely lives up to the hype. Service was amazing The Mele Kalikimaka cocktail was like sipping on a legit mango sticky rice in a glass. For food, the cornbread was excellent because it leaned more savory than sweet, while the pork belly was perfectly cooked and melt-in-your-mouth tender. We've not had a bad dish here, but some recent standouts have been the cornbread, the carrots, fish and steak. If there's one thing you have to try, it's their broccoli. After hearing rave reviews, I'm happy to say it met expectations! This place was super busy even on a Sunday night but we had reservations. We were celebrating my partners birthday and they even had a nice note signed by the staff for us when we sat down. I got wine and my partner got a cocktail (mele kalikimaka). They were happy to let me try a couple reds before I committed to a glass. My partner loved his cocktail that they described as mango sticky rice flavor since it had coconut and mango. For food we got the cornbread, pork belly, broccoli and pork for our main. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked and not overly salty. Cornbread: more on the savory side which we loved and you can really taste the poblano flavor. It was nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pork belly: only three pieces :( but perfectly cooked and the kabocha and blackberry were such a nice contrast against the savoriness. Broccoli: we heard so many things about this dish and it was perfection. They apparently roast and then fry it for the perfectly crunchy and soft flavor. The lime dressing the put on top is soooo good. Pork: larger pork chop with a bone. Perfectly cooked even though it was a thicker piece. Super juicy and had the right amount of smokiness. Couldn't believe I had never tried Campfire, just walking by smells delicious and like a pleasant, smoky campfire. Went on a Wednesday night and it was busy! Always a good sign. The porridge bread was delicious. I wish the charcoal butter had more charcoal flavoring, it was just sprinkled on top. Next time will try the cornbread, it was highly recommended. Campfire is easily one of the most energetic spots in Carlsbad Village. We couldn't snag a reservation online, but swinging by at 5:00 PM on a Monday worked out perfectly. We put our name on the list for a 45-minute wait and spent the time wandering the village, it's a great way to build up an appetite! When we returned, we grabbed pre-dinner drinks at the bar. The bartenders here are true pros--exceptionally knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer tailored recommendations. That level of training extended to our servers (one of whom was in training) who guided us through the options with genuine enthusiasm. The atmosphere is "upscale California chill" at its finest. We sat at a high-top shared table near the bar, and with the roll-top doors open to the evening air, the energy of the full restaurant felt vibrant rather than crowded. Due to a temporary smoke issue, the wood-fired section of the menu was unavailable (we'll have to come back for the octopus!), but the kitchen didn't skip a beat with the rest of the offerings: * Smoked Olives: A perfect starter. They were so well-seasoned they actually converted the non-olive lover in our group into a believer. * Broccoli Chermoula: If you're skeptical about a vegetable being the star of the show, order this. It's fried, playful, and--quite frankly--freaking amazing. It's a mandatory shareable. * Grilled Carrots: These were simply phenomenal. The combination of the crunch from the hazelnuts, the tang of the feta and dill, and the subtle warmth of the Hungarian pepper made for a beautifully balanced dish. * Cavatelli & Koji-Aged Ribeye: We split these as our mains. The cavatelli with morels and a soft egg was rich and earthy, while the 18oz ribeye with chimichurri was perfectly executed. Sharing these dishes was the ideal amount of food for a group of three. My hubby and I came here for my birthday dinner and loved it! The vibe is cozy, warm, and aesthetic-- the perfect spot for a special night out. We shared the ribeye, broccoli, and scalloped bacon potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly and just the right amount for the two of us. They even surprised me with a complimentary birthday dessert, which was such a sweet touch. We also ordered a baked Alaska which was okay. I regret not getting the s'mores! The only small downside is that the tables are a bit close together, so you can hear other conversations which was a bit awkward. Note there's a parking lot behind the restaurant with a walkway between the buildings. Overall, we'd definitely come back! read more
