    Broccoli appetizer. UNREAL GOOD
    Joshua L.

Been here three times now and every time it hits. Today, went by myself and sat at the bar, which is self seating and full service. Passed on the drinks because they start at $18, but went for the broccoli appetizer (incredible as always). Decided on getting the grilled market fish today, but everything I've tried there has been incredible and the fish was no exception. Service is always top notch and everyone is very friendly and approachable if you need assistance. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal!

Pricey, dark and may have to work on their available ciders, but their food is top-notch! We came here as a walk-in. A reservation gets you a proper table. Walk-ins usually end up sitting at the communal high top tables. It isn't too bad but a tiny bit uncomfortable for people on the shorter side (like me). The ambiance is fine glamping style so you do want to be just a teeny bit dressed up. Dressing as if you were camping won't quite work in this restaurant. The servers are nice enough but the place is quite loud so you really have to yell to hear each other. My friend and I ordered a bunch of things to share. We got the tomato, the carrot, the broccoli, and the pork belly. I ordered one of their newer ciders but it tasted more like beer than a cider. Among the shareables, the broccoli (which is the most popular) was actually our least favorite. My friend's top choice was the tomato and mine was a very very close tie between the carrot and the pork belly. Those three dishes were unique, absolutely delicious, very different from each other and had a medley of different flavors. The broccoli unfortunately was too oily and felt heavy and single flavor dominant. It wasn't bad but I can't quite see why people aren't about the other clearly superior dishes. We didn't get dessert here because it didn't speak to us. Pricing wise, it is on the pricier side. I guess that is expected for Carlsbad and given who owns this restaurant. Parking is in the public parking lot behind the restaurant.

The atmosphere was high end but relaxed and not stuffy. The service was stellar from everyone who helped us and we had a wonderful meal. Never did we feel rushed. My friend and I were celebrating and wanted to try a bunch of menu items, and when we ordered, our server kindly suggested that it was going to be a lot of food. We just laughed and said we understood but wanted everything anyway. Totally worth it! The cocktails are delicious and definitely pack a punch and their wine list has excellent by-the-glass options. The only dish we didn't love was actually their "signature" broccoli dish. A little too much char for both our tastes, but glad we tried it.

The service is too notch The food selection is plentiful We had the steak and it was the best You have to try the s'mores all homemade - great! A tad on the expensive side BUT worth it! The decor makes you feel like you are dining at a Campfire setting. Very unique and creative.

The chicken dish. I have never loved chicken this much in my life.

What can I say about campfire? There's always a wait because it's that amazing. I had the sweetest waitress, and I sat at the bar because I went right at opening time and there was going to be a really long wait for a table. The bar was huge, and the decorations and the entire ambience was on point. I really enjoyed myself and we had such great recommendations and such great service! I really loved the carrots that they had. Also, I'm not usually a big fan of chicken but the way that they cook this chicken... The skin was even so delectable. Everything was incredible and top-notch. I love going to campfire any chance I get in Carlsbad.

Campfire Feast - special fixed menu

I dined here with coworkers and customers for a special fixed-menu, 8-course Campfire Feast. The evening began with Crudo featuring yellowfin tuna, aji amarillo, charred avocado, and guava, followed by Cornbread accented with blood orange, rosemary, pink peppercorn, and hibiscus. Next came Roasted Broccoli with chermoula, lime, and peanuts, and Grilled Carrots with hazelnut, Hungarian pepper, feta, and dill. The meal continued with Grilled Fish served with wild mushrooms, miso, black garlic, and scallions, followed by Ricotta Cavatelli with morel mushrooms, English peas, aged Parmesan, walnuts, and a soft egg. The final course was Charred Chicken with roasted red pepper, kumquat, and fennel. We ended the evening with S'mores wiht chocolate, marshmallow & graham cracker--so good! We were there for a while and enjoying each course that captured the essence of campfire-inspired cooking.

Sat at the bar, service was great! Drinks were fun also. The porridge bread and the butter was soooo good but the burrata was a bit odd with the curry, still good we crushed it all just not sure its as good as everything else. Last time we came we got a mushroom pasta and pork belly with broccoli and cornbread and it was definitely something we will get again!!! Be ready for a bit of a wait but worth it every time

Second visit in a matter of weeks to Campfire and this visit was even better than the first! Began with a cocktail - the Contra Costa but as I don't like mescal they substituted gin and it was amazing! Best cocktail I have had in some time. Then we ordered lots of little dishes and they were all just delicious: The amber roasted prawn was out of this world and perfectly cooked!! The tomato with smoked blue cheese and fired bread was also just delicious! This visit the crudo was bluefin and absolutely delicious- fresh with a perfect sauce! The burrata was great, the broccoli is always a must have and finally for me the carrots were the best I have ever had! The meat eaters also enjoyed the rib eye with cast iron roasted potatoes. We had a table on the outside patio which was so great and the perfect ambiance and finally our server was amazing ! She asked if we were celebrating anything special and when we told her we had just 'graduated' a HR class- she brought us all a round of bubbles on the house which was a delightful gesture !! Cannot wait to be back here ! Very glad I work for a San Diego based company !!

Came here to celebrate our anniversary, we have been to other restaurants from this group and had a good time. We had a great time as the staff recognized special occasions. Food wise everything was great, the broccoli was the star of the show and the s'mores are a fun way to end your meal and play in to the theme. Everything else was great.

We always have a beautiful experience at this restaurant. We usually have a reservation since we dine with family. They are great with kids and catering food options for them that are off menu. The food is always impeccable. The broccoli is excellent, cornbread, crudo is so delicious. I'm a huge fan of the Cavatelli and rib eye. I haven't had one thing from the menu I didn't like. They offer refreshing cocktails that are always absolutely divine, I had contra costa, Johnny Rooks, and the most delicious Carajillo I've ever had! All their cocktails are absolutely perfection! Highly recommended!

This was our first Campfire experience, and we went with a group of six. Was it worth it? Yes, and here's why. This place is built for groups. The menu makes it easy to mix and match, whether you order individually or go all-in on shared plates. We chose the sharing route and covered a lot of ground: two Trailhead items (cornbread and porridge bread), three Kindling dishes (crudo, carrot, and their famous broccoli), and two from The Fire (cavatelli and the ribeye with cast iron roasted potatoes). For dessert, we doubled up on the s'mores. Check out the photos. Overall, the food landed at about a 4. The cornbread, broccoli, and cavatelli were clear standouts. The porridge bread had a great texture but needed a little more flavor on its own. The biggest surprise and disappointment was the 18 oz ribeye, which is also the $97 menu item. I had three slices. One slice was nearly half fat, and the other two were tough to cut with noticeable muscle fibers. At that price, I expect all slices to cut like butter. The s'mores were fun and definitely part of the experience, but the vegan marshmallows took a long time to melt. Either smaller marshmallows or hotter baby "campfires" would make a big difference. The vibe here is a big part of the appeal. We lucked out with a table just outside along the street, complete with an overhead heater. It was a nice escape from the high energy inside. That said, even with a reservation for six and arriving on time, we still waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated, even though our table appeared ready. Tony, our main server, however, did a great job guiding us through the menu and keeping everything flowing at a good pace. Would we come back? Yes, absolutely. But we've heard they have a whole family of restaurants along State Street, so we may explore those next before circling back. If you found this review helpful, give it a like so it can help others too.

    Chicken entree

Came in on Friday evening with my lovely girlfriend. Make reservations because it gets packed! Katie (Katy?) was our server this evening. She was fantastic from beginning to end. She ran through the menu and picked a few favorites from each section of the menu. She explained the menu and the taste profiles of each item so we had an idea of what we were ordering. We ordered the broccoli, cornbread, the carrots, the half chicken entree, the trout and finished with the marshmallow dessert. We also ordered a couple of cocktails which were great. An old fashioned style but with mezcal and a traditional margarita. Wine list was great too! All of the food was a hit. The carrots appetizer was by far the star of the show. The sauce that was paired with it was chefs kiss. The chicken dish had a nice char flavoring that went beyond the char gimmick. The marshmallow dish came out with hot stones so you could roast your own s'more. Katie made our date night a great experience and we look forward to seeing the lovely people of Campfire soon.

Cooked broccoli, sorry for the dark picture, but the broccoli was amazing.

We came early without a reservation so we sat at the bar, which was ok. My wife has wanted to eat here for a long time. We ate earlier, but she wanted to come here for there cooked broccoli, yes Broccoli! Let me tell you, that was the best broccoli I have ever eaten and will probably be the best I ever eat. Unless I return which I will. They char the top of the broccoli so it's a little crunchy. It was amazing. There kitchen was non-stop busy and all the food looked amazing. Next time we stay in Carlsbad we plan to make a reservation and have dinner. I'm looking forward to it.

    Campfire Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Campfire

How come Yelp is blocking me from going to your website to see if I could get a reservation for 4 tonight?

Sounds like there's a problem with the Yelp site. Maybe try OpenTable or Resy? Or just call Campfire

Do they have a bar to have a cocktail while waiting for your table?

Yes and great drinks to go with it.

    Is there a lunch menu?

Campfire does not serve lunch. It opens at 5 pm

"Campfire" is mentioned many times on the website, however I don't see any campfires in any of the pictures, nor any mention in the reviews. Are there fire pits outside? Is seating better inside or out?

There are options for both indoor or out door. There is a fire pit outdoors. It's called campfire because most of the food is cooked over a wood fire. You find out more info on their actual website.

I'm confused. I see photos and comments about this place being dog friendly but then I see others that say they don't. So are you dog friendly or not?

This place is no longer dog friendly.

    Do they serve lunch?

    Nope. Open at 4 pm

How is this place for gluten free guests?

They're great! Lots of options and the staff is very knowledgeable.

    Is there a dress code?

No dress code! This is California where anything goes ;)

Can you accommodate a peanut allergy? I see the broccoli dish has peanuts so I would want to ensure I can eat here safely.

The staff is super accommodating to any allergies and will ask prior to your meal if you have any.

For large parties do you have to pay $70 per baby/ kid as well?

Not sure, that seems extremely expensive for a child who won't eat that much. They have a kids menu though...

I see photos of the most recent menus, but don't see the Campfire Feast. Is that not a thing anymore?

Nope, they got rid of it.

Is take out available before 5pm?

Is there gelatin in the marshmallows?

    Yes, from pork.

Why take the Wax Bean dish off the menu when it's one of the most popular dishes?

Maybe because it's no longer available, seasonal, or the vendor no longer has it for the Restuarant? Many times popular dishes are discontinued just to make room for newer and possibly improved dishes.

What is the Camp Feast that they serve for dinner?

Do they have a corkage fee option? Or do they not allow you to bring your own wine

There is a corkage fee if you don't buy the wine from next door at Carruth.

Is this place okay with dogs?

Yes, they have patio area as well

How much of the corkage fee?

    I think it's $15. Either that or $20.

Are there and Vegan food options?

There are a few vegetarian sides or dishes that can be made vegetarian (egg & dairy) but this would not be a place for a vegan. They would probably go hungry.

Is brunch daily or just on the weekends?

Just on the weekends. There is lunch on the weekdays and it's delicious!

A lot of excess crunchy bits on the outside of the burger. Pieces that would normally be eaten. However, the patties were overly salty. Salty taste with every bite that it was overpowering, It was too much salt that the Applewood Bacon burger wasn't finished. About half was left. The Classic wasn't too bad because the lettuce and tomato helped tackle that. Tater tots are tater tots. A few of the em had cajun seasoning. I was excited for those except they were cold and a bit mushy. The majority of the tater tots were crunchy and hot. For drinks, we had the Jefe James and the Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita. My husband enjoyed the Jefe James so much that he would drink it out of a big ol mason jar. Definitely worth coming back for. If we were to come back, it would be for drinks and maybe just fries for something to snack on.

I recall it being a delicious and a wonderful dining experience. I have been looking forward to bringing my family and friends here all week. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.
