After the ownership change, Uniq (now with lowercase letters!) is actually... okay now, I guess? Still nothing impressive, but it's a solid C+ and the new owners (heard they are the same guys behind Haru) actually seem to know what they're doing. My favorite things in the new Uniq are easily the chinmi (fishcake) tempura and the mixed drink (I got Green Apple, which came in a nice blue liquid like the chemical cocktail it is) which is... honestly kinda sad, but they got actual KBBQ now and are a lot more professional about the whole thing. Seriously though, for an AYCE appetizer, the chinmi tempura was quite excellent, though the shrimp tempura on the other hand was sad and soggy and raw and all-around depressing. Dae Gee still has much better appetizer options, that's for sure (nothing can beat a good Midwestern cheese corn yummmm). I still don't get what's supposed to be so uniq about this place though? Perhaps it's the tiny amount of broth and banchan they give you? Both have unlimited refills if you just ask, but something about it still strikes me as being particularly stingy. None of the meats are particularly special either even though they have more choices now. Most of the cuts are fatty (the galbi in particular is what we'd call a "trash cut" due to how fatty it is) and the different flavor profiles that they have like bulgogi, spicy honey or umakara ("sweet-and-spicy") just kind of blend together. The beef tongue also struck me as being way tougher than it had any business being, perhaps it was cut a little too thick. Much of the seafood is still obviously from Rang Dong. Though they got rid of the syrupy "bingsu" and just offer buffet ice cream now, which is actually a nice change of pace. It's about Paradise Buffet level in terms of cream quality, which I guess isn't so bad. Perhaps the one GOOD and uniq thing I can talk about is that they were playing RELATIVELY obscure K-Pop songs like Nekkoya when we visited, rather than the ultra-popular stuff that you hear everywhere in Chinatowns, with some Persona 5 OST and Ado thrown in. I respect. Should've turned the volume up further, though. If you're gonna weeb out, do it correctly. TL;DR I still like Dae Gee better tbh, but they have some competition now. read more

I have no idea why Uniq BBQ has received some bad ratings, as this place was absolutely phenomenal... We stopped in at lunch on a Monday and it was one of the best Korean BBQ restaurants we've ever been to and we lived in Micronesia for 4 years. The restaurant is nicely set up/decorated (super clean and orderly), the service was spectacular (and prompt), and the food was nothing short of excellent. Recommend stopping in for lunch... $20 for AYCE is a steal - You will leave full and happy, I can guarantee it. I recently read a couple of reviews for Uniq online and, despite my fiancé loving Dae Gee restaurant, we wanted to try another Korean BBQ place. This restaurant promised to be more affordable and it's closer to our home, so we set off to test it out. The entrance is interesting with thematic anime characters. The waitstaff was very attentive and seated us right away. I ordered a Shirley Temple, which I haven't had since I was a child! It brought back happy memories. We ordered spring rolls and miso soup to begin. The spring rolls were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. The flavors were very good. We ordered several meats including teriyaki chicken, beef bulgogi, and spicy shrimp. I loved all of the shrimp I had! The beef was really nice, too. I wasn't crazy about the teriyaki chicken, but my fiancé gobbled his up. The banchan is smaller than at Dae Gee, with less variety. The fish cakes at Dae Gee are far superior to Uniq's two fish cake options (regular & spicy), but the pickled radishes are just as good. You get smaller portions at Uniq, but they're unlimited, so just ask for more. At the end of my meal, we ordered the strawberry ice cream. It's a small scoop, but I was pretty full, so it was all I needed. The price was probably $20 less for the same amount of food, but you're getting a more casual atmosphere with Uniq. We really enjoyed our experience and will probably become regular customers! read more

I was kind of surprised at how good this place was given the reviews. They have pretty decent selection of meats and good service. The portions are small, but our waiter was over enough times throughout our visit, it didn't feel like we had to wait for anything. We did the BBQ and Hot Pot, and really enjoyed both. We had the Japanese miso soup base which was really flavorful. The only issue with the soup is we didn't get and veggies for it, the waiter didn't ask if we wanted any and the menu didn't have any listed so I wasn't sure if we should have gotten any or not. I was not satisfied at all with the all you can eat hot pot here. I understand they just opened, there is no kbbq, no biggie, but I came in on a day they were not busy. They had plenty of staff, and they still waited my friend and I very slow. The food was ok, however it was not great. Glad they have an all you can eat for Korean food here in Fort Wayne now, however I'm sticking to driving an hour and a half to Indianapolis for their hot pot. At least there I can keep eating without having to be hungry at the end of my stay. I ordered a lot however the portions were small, and I don't feel good making them run around. We tried Uniq for the first time tonight and it was delicious! They had a wide variety of meats and veggies for the BBQ grill. Had the all you can eat hot pot and it was fantastic. Me and my buddies were there for over an hour and a half. Not once did we feel rushed. Our food kept getting refreshed as needed. Went here for lunch over the weekend. There was one other table when we arrived. We ordered a mango bubble tea and a mango fruit tea in addition to hot pot. The drinks took forever to come out. The hot pot with the soup bases also took a long time to come out as well as the meats and veggies. Unfortunately it seemed as though nobody did any prep work before opening to prepare for the day. We got there a little after noon and didn't leave until close to 1:30 due to all the delays that were experienced in providing all the components to the hot pot. Very disappointed because majority of food from menu wasn't available except some fried rice. $30+tax is very expensive for hotpot in this area. I enjoyed the Spring shabu in Boston and it was around $17 per person with much better quality. Feel like they overcharge the shabu shabu to make up some loss of the bbq table installations. Also I was concerned with a girl who hosted us at that night: she seems like about 9-10 years old. Hate to see they call this is a "Korean" restaurant when this is not a genuine Korean food at all(as a person from S. Korea). Very disappointing. Won't go there again. Very unknowledgeable about the food and the menu. And very very slow. 3 tables 8 guests. And soup is served nearly 40 minutes after being seated. 3 trays of food followed 5 minutes later. Each order of additional food (5 slices of meat) arrived after 10 or more minutes and multiple inquiries of ETA. Asked for more broth as I noticed it getting low and received it 15 minutes later, during which time, the soup base burned.. their response was "sorry" not can I get you another base. What I was not excited about was when my boyfriend's mom took out her chopsticks and they had been used. She also found a hair in her rice. Don't trust the reviews that are hurt about the BBQ not being available at this time (07-24-23) the restaurant is having an issue with the I spectors not knowing what to do. The Shabu Shabu is delicious. I had the golden bone broth and tried every meat and vegetable that was available for it and it was all extremely delicious. The meats were fresh and the vegetables fresh and crisp and all cooked well in the pot. The prices were fair and even great for the area. The staff was absolutely wonderful and attentive. This would be an amazing place for a date as long as you didn't eat too much. It was nice though a little on the dark side, but the decor was tasteful.
