My family and I were starving. We had a long day of shopping in Fort Wayne and needed a good meal. I told them I wanted to try Saisake. It had been years since I had good Thai food, and I was hoping I would find it in this place. I used to have three great places to have Thai food down in Miami, so moving here and finding none was a bit of a shock. Thankfully, I think with Saisake, we found a place finally for good Thai/Asian Fusion food in the area! Saisake has a great convenience feature in that it has a parking garage built into the building they are in. The parking garage is free and has an elevator that takes you near the entrance of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and comfortable. There are two areas, a dining area and a bar, and you cannot go wrong with either area. The service is excellent, our waiter took very good care of us! The food itself was magnificent! It was the best Thai/Asian Fusion food my family and I have ever had. We all started gyoza for the table as well as miso soup for each of us. The gyoza was perfect... my mom ate most of that dish! She was floored with how delicious it was! We were also impressed with how flavorful the miso soup was, my mom commenting on wishing Saisake was closer to where we live so she could have this often. My brother ordered for his main course the Crispy Chicken Katsu, he had some chili paste with it. He said this was the best Chicken Katsu ever! My mom had Lomein Noodles which she thoroughly enjoyed. I had the Sizzling Korean Bulgogi Steak, which was sublime. The flavor was absolutely amazing! We all resolved we would need to return to this restaurant eventually as it was a fantastic experience! If you are in the area, I strongly recommend and implore you all to eat here! This place is special!

Saisaki's disappointing version of "chirashi," not even close to authentic chirashi and not worth its $32 price.

Beautiful, classy restaurant with a large patio across from Freimann Square and the Fort Wayne Art Museum. However, the sushi is tuned to a midwestern palate--the majority of the rolls are heavy with mayo, fried ingredients. and cream cheese. (To illustrate, 12 of their 16 specialty rolls feature mayonnaise, and the other four include fried items, eel sauce, and cheap surimi (imitation krab)). With no rolls on the menu I'd care to order, I was pleased to see chirashi on the menu, which is one of my favorite Japanese meals. Briefly, chirashi almost universally in the US is an Edomae-style bowl that includes a variety of raw proteins and vegetables with authentic higher-end Japanese ingredients. In fact, along with tuna, salmon and yellowtail, I would expect to see squid, octopus, shrimp, tomago, at least one type of roe, shiso, microgreens, cucumber, fresh daikon, oshinko, kanpyo, and maybe even uni or a special variety of sashimi, arranged over heavily seasoned rice sprinkled with furikake or shredded nori, and presented in a traditional Japanese box or bowl. It never comes with a sauce, although soy, wasabi and ginger are presented on the side. Instead, Saisaki served a shallow white pasta bowl with a rounded scoop of lightly vinegared rice, a small amount of seaweed salad, four bites of oshinko, 12 total slices of six kinds of raw fish ( two each of the cheapest mealy tuna, yellowtail, salmon, mackerel, escolar, and snapper), and a completely unnecessary flower. It was presented with a dish of poke-style sauce, which was described as a soy and hoisin blend with orange and other flavors. I had to specifically ask for the server to bring soy sauce. It was like the chef had never made a chirashi don before in his life. I was low-key shocked. Extra weird, Saisaki's table settings included a fork and western soup spoon wrapped in a cloth napkin, but no chopsticks. Chopsticks were offered in a questioning way with my meal that indicated I and other patrons at Saisaki would not typically be expected to use them. They also did not offer an asIan soup spoon with my miso. To their credit, the service was polite and professional, and the fish portions I received were generously cut and fresh... just ordinary and lesser quality. However, I absolutely insist that in no way should this be described as chirashi, and, moreover, it is definitely not a dish worthy of its $32 price tag. If you're after gloopy, culturally void, 'murican sushi, you probably won't be disappointed here; however, if you value fresh, pure, authentic Japanese, this is not a place I would ever recommend. I look forward to researching and trying a better Japanese restaurant the next time I am in FWA.

My wife and I were actually both working downtown in our offices during the continued work-from-home craziness. We settled on Asian cuisine and decided to try out Saisaki. I was pleasantly surprised at how busy they were on a chilly, dark, mid-week night. That's a great sign that there's a good following. Service was ok and pretty much what you can expect these days. The crab Rangoon was tasty and hit the spot to start. My wife had the Tom Kha soup and I went with the sushi roll. Both were excellent choices. I'm glad to see an upscale sushi restaurant in downtown. Please consider giving them a try as I hope they have continued success. Can't wait to go back and the hot pot. :)

First of all the food is outstanding! I travel for work and honestly rely a lot on reviews from yelp when choosing my dining experience. I was so impressed with the food, service and beauty of the restaurant. I sat in a cozy spot in the bar area by the sushi bar. After a day of traveling it was so peaceful. The ambience is amazing. The minute you walk in you can feel what I'm talking about. I loved the soft music in the background. It actually was a beautiful day and they offer outdoor seating which overlooks a park. I would typically request setting outdoors, but due to the amazing ambience when I walked in, I had to sit indoors! The servers were great. Very attentive. The owner actually introduced himself to me while there. He mentioned that on the weekends they have a piano player. If I lived here, I would definitely check this out on the weekend. I noticed on other review they offer a sushi making class... that would be so much fun for a date night! I ordered the bento box because it had a nice variety. I added the salad with ginger dressing. The meal also came with a side of delicious broth soup. It was perfect. I'm so happy I added the salad with ginger dressing it was amazing. The dressing was perfect. I saw several people ordering the sushi. I would definitely try that next time I'm in town. The crab rangoon were the best I have ever had. The price was very reasonable! You will not be disappointed when coming here! Will definitely be adding this to my rotation when traveling to the Fort Wayne area!

    Birthday dinner at Saisaki

My family and I celebrated my birthday there last night. The food and service and general hospitality of the staff exceeded all expectations! From the special salad brought to the table, the sashimi, the incredible boat of sushi to the Cherry Blossom drink and Gibbs 2015 Cab...absolutely everything was amazing! They made my night unforgettable. The kindest people we have ever encountered at a restaurant. The decor is gorgeous and the service perfection. The food is the winner, by far. Even a non Sushi loving midwesterner like myself is now a believer and a fan. The attention to every detail sets this place apart. You will not be disappointed-the only disappointment would be to miss out on this lovely spot downtown.

    Holli K.

Cake here for my birthday with my family and was treated like royalty! We had reserved the hot pot and it was all of our first times partaking in it. It was a lot of fun and delicious! A large variety of meat and seafood. We had more than enough food for the 5 of us and took a bunch home for leftovers. I would absolutely come back and try their regular menu. The staff was so friendly and helpful and made great suggestions for appetizers and desserts.

I had a meeting in FT WAYNE and decided to try this place out for lunch and had the salmon bento box and spicy tuna roll. I really liked the atmosphere and style inside. The owner of the restaurant was actually the one making the food and you can tell he takes pride in what he puts out. Definitely would be a great date spot and the food was delicious.

Highly Recommended for Authentic Ramen!…read more I was looking for an authentic ramen place in town, and this spot came highly recommended--it did not disappoint! The Ramen: Truly authentic. You can tell by the broth, which tastes 100% homemade. It's not that MSG-heavy style that makes you want to drink a gallon of water afterward. I tried three different kinds, and all were outstanding. A standout was the cold noodle with a side of dipping soup--so interesting! You soak the noodles in the soup before eating. It might be a love-or-hate dish for some, but I found it unique . A Note: If you prefer a heavily seasoned, traditional American-style ramen (on the saltier side), this might differ from your expectation. Their flavors are more balanced and nuanced. Also Tried: The sushi was good--not outstanding, but reasonably priced with good portions and a fresh taste. Dessert Lovers, Listen Up! You must try the Fried Ice Cream. It made me feel like home! Hot, crispy, doughy outside with cold ice cream inside. So yummy!

I know I walked out of there extremely full, knowing I would return. However, the best part of the evening? It was undoubtedly the service that I received from my server. A mom of several kids, we talked about the challenges of balancing school and activity schedules with work hours required by her employer. In particular, we discussed one of her daughters, who is apparently an avid golfer despite the responsibilities of tending to her other tables. And she handled that with a smile and with grace. As I was in Ft. Wayne on a golf-related matter, I keyed in on this part of the conversation. Again, it was extremely friendly to meet someone so pleasant. Back to the food - again, it was excellent. And I will be honest, I ate more than I should have! The restaurant is in a small strip mall, but it is well-maintained at the time of my visit. The lunch bento box is straight up hits: a California roll, shrimp tempura, vegetable tempura, rice and your choice of teriyaki'd protein (chicken, salmon, beef, shrimp or basa, a type of catfish). I chose salmon, which was cooked perfectly. The salmon was placed on top of the rice, so the rice kind of soaked up the teriyaki sauce and made it nice and delicious. My bento lunch came with a cup of miso soup, and it was so nourishing and briny, like only miso soup can be. So yeah. I didn't taste any of the sushi here at Umi, unless you count a California roll, which I don't. But they have lots of different types of rolls, nigiri and hand rolls. Umi also has a large menu of sake. So large, that I thought I would be remiss to not get sake to go with my lunch. The menu made me do it! So I got the chiku bai Nigori sake, and it was so smooth. Sake is served in a small pitcher with a small ceramic cup. I wasn't sure if the sake pitcher was supposed to be shared, but there was only one cup, and there was only one me, so I went for it. A sake buzz during lunch ... how extravagant. I visited for a late lunch, around 1:30 p.m., and I was the only person in the whole place. I got the full attention of the very nice server, who had 20 pens in her apron ("For when it gets busy and it's only me," she said, because I asked her why she has 20 pens in her apron.) The picture only shows 4 rangoons because I already ate 3, so the fact it comes with 7 is a great deal. I also ordered the chirashi since I love sashimi, and I was told I was given a few extra pieces. 2 salmon, 2 tuna, 3 yellowtail, 2 scallop, 2 unagi, 2 octopus (or squid?), 2 imitation crab, some salmon roe, and 2 lobster tail chunks; seasoned sushi rice on the bottom.
