I was having a few bad experiences with altering my wedding dress at OTHER tailors (the store I purchased from went out of business, the next person didn't show up to the appointment, and another person was overcharging, taking too long, and by my second fitting, I realized I was not in good hands). I finally went to Unique Alterations on the recommendation of my sister/maid of honor - they worked a miracle on her dress! When I walked in the door, I instantly felt I was in good hands. They not only did they do the work I still needed on my dress (bustle), but they even fixed the prior tailor's mistakes for no additional charge. I've been going here for many, many years. I don't usually have anything other than a pair of pants that need hemming, but this time I gave them a real challenge - a comforter that was frayed and seams were torn and open. I didn't want to buy a new one because it is beautiful and matches everything in my bedroom. Well, for a very reasonable price, they completely re"hemmed" & repaired the whole thing without making it any smaller. I'm not sure how they did it but it looks beautiful! I decided not to come back a few years ago because I felt some of their alterations were unacceptable (the last straw was a skirt that came back damaged) but I decided to try them again because they're close to my home. I brought in two items for repairs. One repair looks fine; I'll have to see if it holds up, the other looks really bad and is basically unwearable. Ok, I have to put my two cents in on Unique Alterations. I have lived in Anaheim Hills for about 16 years, and have been going to Unique Alterations simce we first moved here. Andrew and his wife (I call her Coffee because we always would run into each other at Starbucks), are the most awesome people to do business with. They are fair, honest and professional. They give me suggestions on how my garment should look if I am in doubt, and they are always happy to redo something if it is not to my liking, Which is hardly ever because they usually have it perfect the first time. Customer service is a big thing to me and this is the place for awesome customer service. My entire family is always greeted with a smile by Andrew and "Coffee", and on occasion their beautiful daughter, who is now in college and not there very often anymore. What a wonderful experience we had with Andrew and Laura. My husband and I had some clothes let out and they did a great job. Based on the other reviews, I think we should all remember that we only get out of a relationship what we're willing to put into it. Laura is a nice lady when you take the time to get to know her. I live about 12 miles away and the Festival Shopping Center in Anaheim Hills is neither close nor a fast trip from home or work for me. Already a strike against it in this crazy fast day and age. But I wouldn't go ANYWHERE else. Believe me I have tried tailors in Santa Ana. Tailors in Tustin. Tailors in Irvine. Tailors in Orange. None of them, in spite of being closer to home and office, have given me the service and quality of work done by Unique Alterations. I just don't get any of the remarks about rudeness or being difficult. I have used UA since 1999. They have been nothing but professional, warm and genuine human beings. I take in a new jacket or pants; I tell Andrew what I think; Andrew tells me what he thinks - and I have learned over the years: Trust Andrew! He is a wizard, his work is flawless and his sense of fashion (at least for men and I am a guy so that is all I can comment upon - although it seems there is always some beautiful female customer getting fitted when I visit) is flawless. I love being able to patronize local small businesses. I like the feeling of I interacting with a neighbor and member of the community at Unique Alterations. I completely disagree with the previous comment. I have been going to them since they first opened and never had any problems with them. I have recommended people there and they leave happy as well. I bet you if there were any problems with the work all you have to do is ask them and they can fix it. As for the mother and daughter, their attitudes are nice and they are very good people. So what if they have an argument, that's what families do.Unique Alterations has been open for over 15 years, and their work is wonderful and always will be. I love out in Corona and I drive down there to get my cloths done just because I can't find anyone better. Like other reviewers that have been going to Unique Alterations for years, my mother and I have gone there for 10 years. The male owner is so nice and has the best customer service. The work done there was outstanding for years, up until the last few. I used to go there to get jeans turned into skinny jeans, and they almost always fit perfectly the first time they were tailored. However, the last two times I had different jeans tailored there, I had to have them fixed twice after the tailor had already done my jeans the first time. The male owner was always understanding and never charged extra, but it's a waste of time to go back and forth and know my jeans won't be the way I want the first time. If I ever had to go there again, I would only let the male owner pin the alterations before sewing them. His rude wife is never friendly, and she does not pin clothing to be altered the way customers want. One time, my mother went there to have her pants re-hemmed because they were not hemmed correctly the first time at this establishment, and the woman was going to charge her extra. When my mother asked where the male owner was, the woman unbelievably said he did not work there anymore. She completely lied to my mother and other customers that were inside. I wish the business ran how it used to, with great customer service all around and excellent tailoring. read more

So I've been going to these people for years and their prices have always been higher, but today I decided I had enough. They wanted to charge me $58 for a dress that needed to be taken in on the sides and just a tad on the shoulder straps. When I asked the woman/owner to repeat how much, she had a lot of attitude and pushed on "are you going to leave it?" My dress has a slip underneath and lace on top and it's nothing too fancy or complicated, it's not a formal gown it's a cocktail dress with no zipper, you just slip it on and there's one button up top. This owner has been rude to me before. Once I forgot the coupon and when I brought it in after the job had been done, she wouldn't honor it. She said it needs to be presented before order is placed-it does say this in the fine print, maybe they use cheaper materials with the coupon. Whatever the case, these people are WAY TOO OVERPRICED! I'm really disappointed because they do a good job, but I kind of felt like I was getting ripped off. I'm not sure if I'm going back. read more

I think they do great work is very nice and accommodating. As for the lady and her daughter - the daughter seems like she could care less and the lady acts like she'd rather you go elsewhere. I drive through 3 cities to go there and when i walk in and see the lady I feel like getting in my car and driving away. I've been going there for 3-4 years and they DID charge me for a rushed job. Never ever go to them!!!! First time they made a mistake by cutting my daughters expensive swim track suit pants when I specifically said do not cut when hemming. Then I brought in a baptismal gown that I have used for each of my children(3) and asked them to change out the buttons and embroider my daughters name and date of baptism in same size and color they did the other times. I brought it in a week in advance and he asked when I needed it. I know I specifically said by Friday since the baptism is on Saturday morning. When I went to pick up on Friday he was very rude and told me I said Saturday and that he didn't have it. He had sent it out and said he could give me address to go get it. Sorry but with 3 young kids I don't have time to go somewhere else. We finally were able to pick up at 9pm but he had thrown the other buttons away which I keep to have something special for each kid to pass down to use for something and the color and size were different, read more

I have been to the store 3 times on the basis of coupons that I received. All 3 times they refused to honor the coupon - all 3 times they said that the the item that I brought in would cost more than the coupon price for some reason. 3 coupons, 3 different times at the store, 3 different types of alterations: once for a hem, once for dry cleaning, and today for waist out. Nowhere on the coupon was there a mention of exceptions. It's the old "bait and switch" - get them in the store and get them to pay more: 3 strikes and Unique Alterations is OUT! read more

I would have given this company a MINUS 10 stars but was forced to give one star which they DO NOT DESERVE!! On their business card, they state that their "fashion designers will make your clothes fit perfectly". That is truly a contradiction to the work that they perform. Avoid at all cost! If you want to be treated rudely and disrespected, then go ahead and do business with this tailor. If you want to be treated with respect and get pleasant Service, avoid this place like the plague! I took my son's pants in to be shortened. This was on a Tuesday and was told they would be ready on Saturday. Due to my work schedule I wasn't able to pick them up until Monday. When I got there the wife of the owner couldn't find my phone number in their system even though I had to repeat it to her 3 times when we dropped the pants off 6 days earlier. The wife was extremely rude and said I wasn't in their system and insinuated that it was my fault. She finally asked for my last name and found that my phone number had been entered into their system incorrectly. I asked her to change the number at that time and she typed something into the computer. She then brought out the pants and informed me they hadn't been hemmed yet, even though they'd had them for 6 days and were supposed to be ready 2 days earlier. She told me to come back the next day, which I did. On that day I gave her my phone number and once again she couldn't find me in her system. She had not corrected my phone number the day before as I had asked her to do. Luckily, I remembered the Incorrect phone number she had originally typed in. I again asked her to change the phone number to the correct one. She then mumbled a few conflicting statements about how she couldn't change my phone number which made absolutely no sense. All the while inferring it was my fault and that I was the problem. At that point I was tired of her rude attitude and being made to feel like a second class citizen. I asked to speak to her husband who told me that they couldn't change my phone number until I brought in something else to be tailored. At that point I'd had it with their attitude and evasiveness about their computer system. Additionally, upon inspection of their work, the hemming of my sons pants was sloppy, looked uneven and unprofessionally done. So we now have to go to a different tailor to have them fixed. Doing business with this establishment was a huge waste of my time and money. I would not recommend that anyone do business with this tailor either. read more

I'm surprised that this place has as many negative reviews as it does. I wouldn't go anywhere else! I've come here so many times with the strangest requests and Andrew is always able to do whatever I ask. He's sewed a hood on a different jacket for me, cut out a design on one shirt and sewed it on a smaller shirt. He's taken in my dresses and his work is always amazing. Andrew is the owner and a very good tailor, and the prices are reasonable - not cheap but you get waht you pay for. He is also flexible on turn around times, and my sense from listening to customers when I am in his shop is that many of his customers have been enjoying his services for many years. You may find lower prices elsewhere, but you will be happy with the alterations Unique Alterations provides, or Andrew will re-do them. read more

I used to go regularly to have clothing altered. Dealing with the owner's wife was never a pleasant experience (liked when I got the owner himself) but tailoring was fine and convenient. After a few unpleasant dealings with the wife, I finally went somewhere else. I recently tried to "give-them a go" just because of convenience and boy was I sorry!! I'm finally leaving a review also, because of the poor customer service I received last week. Their work is good and their hours are convenient (they are open on Sundays which is why I go here). However, the woman is EXTREMELY rude. I know she always charges me a few dollar more b/c my latest jeans alteration was $14 rather than the usual $10 or $12. I've tried using a coupon before, and the woman wouldn't let me use it without any explanations. And on top of that, she told me it would take a whole week to get my jeans hemmed (rather than the usual 3-4 days when the man helps me). Like the other reviewer said, I have actually pulled into the parking lot and pulled away when I see the woman at the cash register. After this latest experience, i will go out of my way to the other alterations up by Ralphs. I can't reiterate how unpleasant the whole experience is when I take my clothes to this place if the woman helps me. read more

I have been going here for many many years. The quailty of work is amazing! But I do have to say... what people are saying about the wife is true. I definitely prefer that the husband helps me than the wife. She is not friendly at all, unless you are kissing her butt. Which should be the opposite. She should be kissing my butt. So I do think that there prices have gone up. I just recently took my expensive jeans in and had the length taken off and along the leg was taken in and a little bit at the bottom of my butt and it was $36. And.... its true what people are saying about the wife. She definitely overcharges. I took jeans in and she charge me such and such price. And then the man ran me up last time and it was cheaper. But she was looking over his shoulder and looked like she wanted to correct him. Thank goodness she didn't. I would recommend this place for excellent quality in their work.
