Unfortunately, I had a deeply dissatisfactory experience with Unique Hardwood Floors. After finding them on Yelp, I contracted with Duy to refinish the hardwood floors in my home. After the work was completed, my wife and I noticed a number of quality issues, the most concerning and still unresolved of which is that there are hundreds of nail holes and divots that have un-dried and un-cured oil and filler. When we walk on the floors, we can feel stickiness on our socks due to these deficiencies. Federico, one of Duy's employees, attempted to address the issue by buffing the floors and adding another coat of oil, but this did not resolve it. Today, the issues persist, and we are still not moved back into the home. I was forced to find another contractor, who came and evaluated the floors. The evaluation confirmed the quality deficiencies and revealed that the best way to resolve the work deficiencies was to completely re-do the impacted floors: by re-sanding and re-finishing them. We now are paying another contractor to fix the flooring. When I informed Duy that this was the manner in which we'd be proceeding--and that we'd like to work with him to obtain a refund to cover our financial damages--he categorically refused. I certainly wish that our project with Duy ended more positively, but I cannot in good conscience recommend his company as a flooring contractor. read more

I hired Unique Hardwood Floors for a floor installation job. We wanted to get rid of our original carpet with LVP. Materials were provided by me with the exception of underlayment. Nearly every aspect of the job was discussed over the phone. A very important lesson - Do Not discuss a job over phone or internet only, an in-person measurement is essential. I appreciate Duy for finding a quick appointment, but I'm quite disappointed with his post-project experience. Finished work would have looked more professional with proper sealant work all around the joints. His crew didn't knew how to install a popular T-molding from the HomeDepot. I had to search installation videos and show it to the crew. Some other project details - $500 for carpet removal, $600 for underlayment and $3/sq ft for labor. read more

An update for the stairs repair Duy responded promptly to my request and had the new riser board made by the subcontractor the next day, Friday 2/21. Duy came and got it installed a couple days later on the 2/26 - mostly due to my side of scheduling difficulty (Duy was ready to install it on Monday 2/24). The board is solid 1/4 inch thick, a lot more stronger! During installation Duy had to go back to the subcontractor to bend the board for the curved corner part. The end product is very good! The board is absolutely solid. Sturdy and strong, I think it's installed right against the backing board. I am confident there won't be any issues with the board breaking in the future. DO NOT...I REPEAT....DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. They incorrectly installed the planks and cause flood damages to my home. Duy who claims is the owner gave false hope and expectations and had no supervision over the non-speaking workers. Plays a victim due to the huge and expensive mistakes his workers did to my house. They came unsupervised, unprepared, inadequate, under equipped. I had a major flooding from when they removed the two toilets and they just stood there watched the water flow thru the hallways, bedrooms and closets!! One of the major incident: As I was leaving my home, they chased me down the parking lot gesturing me to come back. As I walked into my house, the water from the toilets sewer was coming out. Not knowing what to do. And in pure panic, I kept saying plug the toilet, do something!! Instead, they just stood there. Saying, "no, no bueno, no." And gesturing me for towels and gloves, when they should've came fully equipped with needed materials. In the event disaster like this happens. I was so frustrated because we couldn't communicate in English, I was very upset and so stressed i needed to leave the scene. I told them they need to call their manager and deal with this. I then get a phone call from the manager who supposedly arrived to my house who proceeded to tell me that reason why it flooded.... (Are you sitting down?) He tells me, "the reason why it's flooded is because someone is taking a shower upstairs. The toilet is wet. The toilet is in the tub and the tub is wet. The water is coming from upstairs." My response, there's nobody home and the reason why the tub is wet is because they placed the toilet in the tub with water in it. He insisted that the water is coming out because someone is taking a shower upstairs. I kept telling him that's not the case. Then I told him, his workers should've plugged the pipe as soon as they removed the toilet. His immediate response was, "there you go, playing the blame game." I was like, "What are you talking about?!" At this point I realized he was trying to save his butt and his employees of the responsibilities. They caused the flooding, they should've plugged and sealed the toilet, they should've came prepared with equipments. To make the long disastrous story short, Duy, the so called manager never once showed up to oversee the work. The one and only time he showed up was because he was so concern to come pick up his tools that he mentioned were wet due to the water. While on the phone, I asked him to put the toilet back to stop the water from coming out, his response was, " why should we, we're not plumbers!" Well if you're not plumbers then why would your workers removed the toilets? Then I asked him if he is coming back to my property, his response was, "why should I? It's not my job!" Then he tells me, I'm playing the blame game. That I'm blaming his workers for the flooding. The amount of damages could have and should have been prevented had his workers been prepared, equipped and trained to manage any kind of disaster. And did what they needed to do to stop the water from coming into the rest of the house. And this not nearly half of the story. He also gave me the impression that he would be the one doing the job. So the first day, I arrived to my property, I noticed not only were they installing the planks wrong, they were also setting aside all the lighter colors. So my living room now has dark shades The rest of the house has mixed designs! At one point, I addressed to the workers why they keep opening new boxes when they have tons of materials laying around. It was because they did not follow the specific format instructions! Mind you, the flooring has there different width sizes, 5-7-9" inches. Not the customary one-size planks. At one point there were 40 of the 7" inches laying around. So when I finally addressed this issue to Duy, the so called manager, he started yelling at me over the phone saying, "I HAVE WORKED HERE FOR 40 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN FLOORING WITH THREE DIFFERENT SIZES!!!!" I then asked him if he'd been to my house, he again said, "no, why should I? That's not my job!" This statement seems to be his favorite "motto". Besides having to buy more materials, getting the plumber and the emergency recovery company come to pull out the "newly installed" and damaged flooring, in order to dry the wet floors which took another week. I will stop here. Don't say, I didn't warn you. Oh and I almost forgot to mention, I caught one of the workers trying to cover up the damages by installing new planks on a wet floor in the master. Luckily I caught him in the act and he was embarrassed. Negative stars in my book! read more

Unique came over and gave a competitive bid; understanding what I wanted to accomplish - match the existing flooring, sand it to the level of the existing floor, and match the finish (which had been previously hand mixed). Found Unique Hardwood on yelp. They helped with carpet removal and installation of LVP which we procured from homedepot. Here were our pro's and con's. Pro's: Quick response time, available to complete the job within a week, adapted to our design choice, installed the LVP and baseboards across the home on time and the quoted budget. Con's: We were disappointed that no leveling was done prior to install of the LVP and we were not told it was needed. We are left with uneven flooring and need to pay more to get it fixed. Overall, you will need to make sure you know something about flooring to ensure all aspects are covered, but if do know about flooring, and you need someone to come in and get it done these are the guys for the job. read more

Duy could accommodate my strict schedule, offering an estimate on a Saturday, as I still had tenants in the house, and that was the only time available to them.
