I have limited mobility and had been using a ramp to load my Golden LiteRider Envy Power Chair into our vehicle which was difficult and time consuming. I reached out to Mobility Center (Honda approved installer) and was assited by Alan who after showing me several options that would possibly work in my Honda SUV, I decided the best solution was the Bruno 6900 powerlift that is installed on the inside of the vehicle and can be operated by myself without relying on anyone else which is critical as my lady isn't always available. Alan personally came out to our home here in East Mesa and drove our vehicle to their shop in North Phoenix which is about 45 miles from our home. After the Bruno lift was installed, Alan again personally delivered our Honda back to our home. He then gave me a detailed demonstration on how to load and unload my power chair using the lift. He then had me try it out; it took several attempts to get used to loading and unloading my power chair. I have, after practicing multiple times used my lift to transport my power chair by myself which has been absolutely awesome! I now have the ability to go out independently and confidently to do errands, go to various stores, etc. I cannot thank Alan enough for his OUTSTANDING customer service from beginning to end. I wrote an earlier review but took it down. Let me explain... Last Friday I bought a 2012 Honda Odyssey from Ability Center on 19th Avenue. I want to say that the salesperson I worked with, Christina, was beyond patient and hung in there with me until I found the perfect van. She helped me find financing that I am very comfortable with and was genuinely concerned for my comfort and safety when making sure that this van would work best for me. I took my other review down because a day or two after I wrote it the van had a glitch. The sliding door was closing before the ramp was up. The other handicap van I owned had some pretty major issues with the ramp and I sort of freaked out. This was on a Sunday when Ability Center is closed, so I managed to get the door closed and sent an email to them explaining the problem. First thing Monday morning, Chip called and said they'd get someone there to pick it up. He apologized for the wait. What I didn't know is that there is a 24-7 number I could have called for immediate help from Ability Center. I was glad to get that information for any future problems may have. Long story short, the van was picked up at my residence, worked on right away, fixed and returned to me the same day by a very nice young man named Jose who informed me that not only is there a number I can call if help is needed off-hours, but that Ability Center will service the handicap equipment every six months. He said that this would be available for me as as long as I own the van, and will always help when I need it. I have such faith in the folks at Ability Center. BUYER BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS. They treat widows of veterans HORRIBLE. We were promised if and when my husband could not use the Bruno trailer they would give me a buy back. I realize we have had a while but didn't expect much. But they won't even call me back and at least tell me they won't, and since they recognize my phone number and name the girl lies and tells me 3 different excuses each time. Part 3... Purchased vehicle from them in PHX but live in Ca. Van was not smog approved for CA. I called & Cliff helped look into it. I told tech that it was approved despite the code Ability Center put on car wasn't correct & tech decided to approve it. We thought lack of education. So afterwards I went to 2 other smog places that I found out smog test a lot of vans like mine. They said same thing, "not approved for Ca smog guidelines". Ability Center all of a sudden disappeared, Braun not responding either. Now I will run into problems every time my van has to get smogged since they refuse to fix it. Next, keep getting a safety warning on the car & need to take to dealer. Airbags aren't working correctly. Dealer won't touch it due to conversion causing it, Ability Center in PHX that sold me the van a few weeks ago with this issue ignoring me & not taking care of it. So I bought a so called brand new van (with 333 miles on it when I purchased it despite them puting 150 in paperwork) that should not have any issues yet it has major issues that they don't care about! The ramp still doesn't work correctly, still malfunctions & the so called back up system that Christina said is 99% reliable won't fail her words doesn't even work as it just mimics what the ramp does! There is no backup system for when the ramp fails. Its so bad! Everyone tells me to take it back to them, but they are an 8 hour drive & have no other reason to go. I know, my fault for purchasing a van from out of state (one we wanted was so hard to come across so) & bigger mistake falling for their bs. Now i am stuck with a van that is NOT reliable, safe and malfunctions & Ability Center / United Access / Braun won't do anything about it nor will Toyota Dealer since its caused from conversion. They charged me for a new van, new conversion yet that is NOT what I got. New = no issues, works great, safe, reliable, etc. Do business with them at your own risk.. read more

They seem to have everything here for people with a physical disability it's One-Stop shopping! From lifts to ramps, scooters and swimming pool lifts, if they don't have it it just doesn't exist! Under New Management as of two years ago the whole feel of the place has changed and is much more positive! The manager is extremely friendly and welcoming, and always comes out to say hello even if you're just there for some meat maintenance. He knows how to get things done and is very responsive to phone calls and emails. Say hello to Lenny when you go out is the Ability Center! Clif is usually the one who helps me when I go out to visit and have some work done online then which has and accommodation allowing me to drive my power chair into the Vans and then transfer into the driver's seat so I'm extremely self-sufficient with my van! Being that I have a complicated disability that affects every joint in my body it isn't always easy for me to figure out a way that I can use something to make life more enjoyable and simple. Cliff is excellent for thinking outside the box which he's had to do numerous times for me over the years. He also is quite responsive whenever I call or leave an email. He's a very nice guy and knows his stuff! You definitely can trust that he will figure out most any issue you have because of your disability. And not to leave them out but the office staff also is excellent! I usually speak with Connie then I have a problem and she knows exactly who to direct me to and if they're not there at the moment she gets the messages out so that I always get a quick response. She's very friendly and always able to help me with any information I need when I call. I have never felt ignored or been disappointed when I'm working with Connie! She is part of the team and has been for years! The Ability Center is always very clean from the showroom to the bathroom was to the garage where much of the work is done. It's easy to find and in an area that isn't crazy with traffic. They have many Vans there, but also will help you get a van which works well with your disability. 99% of my van was simple and straightforward for someone who uses a power chair, but there were a few things specific to me and they were able to figure out how to make it easier or find the gadget that helps make it easier for me. For me easier means less pain and frustration, and allows me to work! I have visited all the dealers in town I think oh, and while they're all good from what I experienced, the Ability Center and the people who work there give it they're 100%!! read more

PART2: I have plenty of experience with vehicles to know that is not what happens - car gets better the more you drive it. Well I now have put over a thousand miles on car since driving off their lot and nothing has changed and I am good at max out my cars mpg. U can not get more than 25-26 mpg on hwy driving in eco mode, excellent driving conditions, etc. I got better mileage than that with a V6 engine as she claims its not a V6 engine but a V4 which will get better gas mileage. Not true. Also, I mentioned to her after 4 hours of driving the hybrid battery still states low and she said system will charge it as we drive it but even after 4 hours of driving it was never charged to use. Plus she said it won't go into hybrid if over 30mph which is NOT accurate either. And she never mentioned any of this when we discussed the hybrid prior to me purchasing it as I assume it's a negative effect and she knew I may not get van if I knew the truth. The truth is, you can't drive in hybrid mode 95% of the time. You have to be under 25mph NOT 30mph and you can barely touch the accelerator (you mostly have to coast) and as soon as you reach 25mph it knocks it off. Bumper to bumper traffic barely moving is one of the rare times you can use it as long as you don't press on that gas pedal more than just BARELY and I mean barely! The only other time you can be in hybrid mode successfully is in our apt complex, in a large parking lot driving to a parking spot or leaving parking lot, driving by a school but can only press the gas pedal maybe 2% anything more it knocks you out. So hybrid is truly not even an option to help get better gas mileage and save money on gas. This is a Toyota issue but Christina at Ability Center won't inform you. When contemplating van, I specifically told Christina that I was going with Toyota over Honda due to the hybrid system for better gas mileage, etc and she only agreed that it would be a lot better as she wanted the sale, didn't want me to back out. But in reality, it truly doesn't make any difference. And they are not going to tell you that because its all about them telling you what you want to hear so they can close the deal. The wireless phone charger doesn't work. It comes with that level of van that I paid for. I told Christina it doesn't work and after she told me it was common I then said I guess I will have to carry my phone charger for now on to charge my phone (I shouldn't have to) and she then responded perfect. She should have warned me if she knew that was an issue when she told me there is a wireless charger in the car to charge my phone. So she led me to think it was a great feature even though it doesn't work. I really disklike being misguided. I love my van. It rides smoothly. My daughters' wheelchair doesn't fit in there like it has in our previous van so I have had to play with the straps a lot to get it to work. It's a little concerning but don't have any other choices. They made the width of the wheelchair space narrower than other vans so be careful and check carefully before purchasing. My daughters ride seems very comfortable and smooth which is critical. The remote for the van is difficult to operate as sometimes you have to push a few times to get it to operate the ramp door and passenger side but that is okay. One reason I wanted an automatic ramp this time around was so I can have it ready when its raining and my daughter isn't stuck in the rain waiting for me to open door, pull ramp out and then put her in. Now I can have it open and out by the time she gets there so there is no stopping and straight in she goes. We have experienced that a few times in the past week and its been great. Am I happy with my purchase?Im not sure. Even though I took my time with researching my options, etc I almost feel like I was rushed into something almost regret it solely based on not being provided accurate info finding out afterwards I was given info basically so the deal would close. I think I am disappointed in realizing that Christina wasn't the type of person I thought she was at first disappointed she couldn't be honest with me but I get it, its her job to make a sell and that is what she was after.Cliff who you call when you have a ramp issue is wonderful!! He is on top of it and there for you when need be. I didn't want to call at 5am so choose not to and that was on me. However, as soon as she heard of our issue he called me immediately. Very helpful and provided guidance until I could get it looked at / adjusted. Living in Cali you have ten days to transfer title (start the process) before you get penalized. Ran into an issue with smog so called Cliff and he got right on it looking into it. He helped get the van passed this time, but not sure if it will be an issue the next time, but I have some time. Ability Center went above and beyond when I had an accident with my previous van. They helped with the adjuster, the driving instructor, finding another van and facilitating the driving equipment. I was given the details of this Ability Center by the special driving school along with a couple others. I already owned a set of hand controls but nobody else would install them. This company agreed readily and for a reasonable price. They quickly assessed what additional parts they'd need, ordered them and scheduled me in for the day after the parts were due to arrive. Cliff did an expert job, then fine tuned them to fit me perfectly. The whole process was a real pleasure. That was a couple months ago. This week my wife got a new car and I called Tonya to order hand controls for that car too. It's quite expensive but we decided to go ahead. I was delighted when they told me the car manufacturer has a program where they pay up to $1,000 towards the cost for a new set up in a new car. Would other installers tell me that? I'm not sure... I'm sad to see Ability on 19th Ave got some poor reviews because to my mind they're The Best! Cliff is an extremely knowledgeable and professional engineer, Tonya is a real pleasure to work with and always extra cheerful, Erin is also very knowledgeable and helpful. It is too bad a person can't post a negative rating instead of even a 1 on the plus side. I had my first and last experience with this store. I have a VMI Northstar conversion and always had service performed by the Long Beach, CA store. I was there in March for some repairs but they could not perform them before I was moving to Arizona. So they said they would transfer the info to this store. I made an appt and advised what was needed according to the Long Beach store. We decided to drive down early to drop the van off and pick up a rental and spend the night. After they had the van for a few hours I got a call telling me they couldn't do 2 of the repairs. I listened to their BS and realized they were more interested in looking good and saving a few dollars instead of taking care of the customers needs. Telling me I need to go to a body shop instead of them taking care of the problem tells me they are only interested in sales and screw you if you if you need service. While we were there I was looking at the powerchairs they offered and new van. When I need to purchase a new chair or van I sure won't be spending my money here. I have already found a repair center for VMI vans and will be contacting them for my needed repairs. I had good experice with the Long Beach store but this one in Phoenix is the last place I would go to for repairs or new purchase. They SUCK!! read more

We wanted so bad to like this place. Our purchase process at the Phoenix location went very well. We had a very bad experience in Goodyear. Shortly after that purchase, our vehicle was totaled by someone running a stop sign and we were forced to buy a new vehicle 2,000 miles in. Due to the experience in Goodyear, we drove the long distance to this location. They were friendly and did a great job getting my husband set in his new van. The trouble came when we started having ramp malfunction issues only 4,000 miles in. The van became very unreliable for my husbands independence. When they could not solve the problem, it was clear they wanted us to just go away. The last visit there was awful. My husband was pawned off on a lazy irresponsible technician and sent out the door with the ramp failing right away and the panels loose and not put back in place. We had high hopes for the Ability Center but do not recommend them if you have any ongoing problems. We have since moved on to another company who diagnosed and fixed the issue immediately. The place we moved on to has the technician back we had used for years. He is amazing and we are thrilled to have him back!! What a relief!! read more
