    Veteran Air

Very disappointed with the quality of work from Veteran Air…read more I called Veteran Air before a major cold snap to have our heat pump checked out. Their technician, Jonathan Scholtz, diagnosed a corroded indoor evaporator coil and low system pressure. He also tried to upsell me on replacing the entire unit -- I should have realized that was a warning sign. Instead, they replaced just the coil. I paid the full amount ($3,233.85 after the veteran discount) and hoped that would be the end of it. About five months later, I started noticing the condensate pan overflowing and draining outside the house. I tried clearing the lines myself, but the dripping continued. Since it took Lisa from Veteran Air several hours to respond, I went ahead and called another HVAC company for help. They charged me a $150 on-site visit fee. The other technician was shocked by what he found: when Veteran Air replaced the coil, they never reinstalled the baffles around it and didn't even secure the coil properly in the brackets. There was basically no way for the condensation to drain correctly. He also confirmed the system pressure was still extremely low. The other techs could have fixed it right then, but they didn't want me to be out of pocket for repairs that should be covered under warranty. They recommended I call Veteran Air back to make it right. Here are pictures of what the other HVAC tech saw. I'm really disappointed -- I expected better, especially from a company that serves veterans. I wouldn NOT recommend Veteran Air based on this experience.

After striking out with other companies, I phoned Veteran Air. Lisa answered, listened, and looped in her service manager right away. Minutes later she called back: they could help, and we booked for Monday. Matthew, from Veteran Air, showed up this morning and was a total pro. He greeted my dogs like old friends, then tackled the monster unit without scratching the window frame or siding. Watching him wrestle that sealed-in relic out of the wall convinced me I never could've done it alone. The unbelievable thing? The bill was tiny. Way less than I expected for the time, tools, and muscle it took and such a good value. When I'm ready to add central AC, Veteran Air will be my first call. If they put this much care into a one-off rescue job, I can't wait to see how they handle a full install. Five stars, no hesitation.

Hill Country, Texas home. Built recently with some challenges for AC. Rooms vary in ceiling…read moreheight and one wall of house faces due west and has lots of windows, to take advantage of views of hills and sunsets. Shortly after move-in, I noticed the humidity was running a bit high. Not awful, but more than I was accustomed to, with other systems. Original AC installer was out numerous times and made things better, but not ideal. I wanted ideal: reasonable electric bills, quiet AC operation, humidity 50% or less, as per CDC and EPA guidelines. Never quite got there. Called K&R and DID get there. K&R's office staff, Naomi, Mary, and Elizabeth were very prompt to get service to me, ASAP. Company owner Regan, technician Greg, and technician Ben came out and, to cut to the second act, found the following: * Air intake valve had a loose wire and was probably bringing in maximum fresh/wet air from the outside, with no monitoring. * One main duct line should have been screwed in to the adjoining structure, but was only taped. The tape had failed, and the air handler was conditioning the attic space. The attic is a spray foam attic, so the air handler is supposed to only partially condition that space--as I understand it--to act as a thermal "blanket" to insulate the living space below. * Original company had placed the air handler speed on the highest setting. The air stream was never staying in contact with the coils long enough to condense and evacuate moisture, unless I was keeping the set point at a chilly 70 degrees. Well, thanks to Regan, Greg, Ben and their work ethic, all of this was resolved. Today and for several days, the indoor humidity has been between 43% and 50%, only climbing a point or two above that, when we have a swampy 85% humidity outside, and then the dehumidifier kicks in to keep things dry and healthy. I am exceeding glad I contacted K&R Heating & Cooling.

Pat Neves, proprietor of 1st Choice Comfort Solutions, has been the only HVAC vendor "worth his salt" in both being able to understand the technology of the old HVAC units but also keep them running and making the necessary repairs. It has been my experience that other HVAC vendors would apply "band-aid approaches", probably because they did not have the expert technical knowledge that Pat Neves has. I can unequivocally state that Pat Neves/1st Choice Comfort Solutions has been a "life saver" here at New Bella Apartments at being able to maintain and repair our HVAC units and avoid our having to expend thousands of dollars on installing new systems. Aside from Pat Neves' technical knowledge, he is extremely reliable, appears when he says he is going to, and probably "under-charges" for his services. He is an "old fashioned", hard-working, congenial, true gentlemen, in addition to being an expert technician. I feel truly fortunate to have Pat Neves/1st Choice Comfort Solutions on the New Bella Apartments team of service vendors. Any recommendation I give 1st Choice Comfort Solutions would truly be an understatement of Pat Neves' expertise and willingness to put forth a bona fide effort to find the solution to any problem that he confronts.
