Very disappointed with the quality of work from Veteran Air. I called Veteran Air before a major cold snap to have our heat pump checked out. Their technician, Jonathan Scholtz, diagnosed a corroded indoor evaporator coil and low system pressure. He also tried to upsell me on replacing the entire unit -- I should have realized that was a warning sign. Instead, they replaced just the coil. I paid the full amount ($3,233.85 after the veteran discount) and hoped that would be the end of it. About five months later, I started noticing the condensate pan overflowing and draining outside the house. I tried clearing the lines myself, but the dripping continued. Since it took Lisa from Veteran Air several hours to respond, I went ahead and called another HVAC company for help. They charged me a $150 on-site visit fee. The other technician was shocked by what he found: when Veteran Air replaced the coil, they never reinstalled the baffles around it and didn't even secure the coil properly in the brackets. There was basically no way for the condensation to drain correctly. He also confirmed the system pressure was still extremely low. The other techs could have fixed it right then, but they didn't want me to be out of pocket for repairs that should be covered under warranty. They recommended I call Veteran Air back to make it right. Here are pictures of what the other HVAC tech saw. I just found my go-to HVAC crew, AND I wasn't even calling about an HVAC system. Late on a Friday I discovered THE FIXER-upper I moved into has window units were basically welded into place. This has been a ride for sure. I had them come out and give me a quote and "Chad" hard sold me on buy it now stock is low, I have this same unit at my house and my electric bills are low, being I was in a spot of not having ac and two disabled people and got a discount for public service I went ahead. They never pulled a load test and just dropped like for like ( load tests are a requirement per the state for residential l see below). They came installed the unit and left. The unit was not working well to cool the house having to use window units and we were having a leak in the stairwell, they sent out Ryan and saw the damage, (mind you this was approx 8 months after so start of summer) and found the unit was not correct and I need a bigger unit which they installed on their cost but very poorly not attaching the Plenum to the register massive air leaks everywhere causing more water damage. After the install, my hallway started raining even more to the point that it had to be pulled out they left me with an open staircase into the attic for about two weeks while they figured out what they were doing they came out and installed cut insulation around a metal pipe, which did nothing but make a wet soggy mess. They finally replaced it with flex duct. Installation as stated above was done haphazardly nothing was truly connected. They installed my whole house filter on the off side of my unit so that I'd have to climb over the thing to install the new one. It also leaked terribly the new registered that they installed leaked horribly so that I had condensation drippingout of the vents. I had to pay sheet rockers to come tape and float my stairwell on my dime. I will say the installer guys bust their butts are personable. Are nice to deal with Ryan Will snow will allow you with things that are not correct and tell you that you don't need a permit or load test when you do. I ended up having to get a new unit installed to replace their new unit because their unit was causing horrible humidity problems in the house. It was oversized. Costing me another sum of money not the original 23,000 that I paid. I've talked to multiple people who they tried to upsell units too when all they needed was a capacitor or board replace $23,000 instead of a roughly $900 job. You really can't ask for better customer service and response time! I was super stressed and these guys put my mind at ease in a hurry! The prices were extremely fair and they were the fastest to respond to my call. My appt was around 2:30-3:00 and they had a cancellation so they called to see if they could come at 12:00. I was really excited to work with this company but alas, we have been disappointed. My husband is a veteran and we decided to invest in this ac company. I signed up for their maintenance package and paid in full up front. Big mistake. The charge of $76 for every single visit that has to do with the same issue every 2-3 weeks was ridiculous. Each time they came, the guy couldn't really explain what the main issue was. We also changed out our thermostat with them and still had issues. Turns out the guy who made the switch, FORGOT to turn the unit back on! We only found that out because we called the person who originally installed our unit 2yrs ago and he came to take a look. We were visiting my daughter's family from California. And I asked Veteran Air to come out and check out my daughter's system in Spring Branch Tx. It had been a few years since she had it checked. I told her at my house we have the system checked out once a year. These guys replied to my inquiry on Yelp right away and showed up when they said they would the next day. The tech (who was a Veteran) was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained to my daughter everything he did and recommended she do. She was very pleased with everything and with their military discount it turned out to be less than we estimated. The technician was great. Very courteous and kind. He was there for an annual checkup and while inspecting he found a capacitor that was out of tolerance. The charge to change out the capacitor was over $300 which to me seems quite excessive for a cheap part and an easy/quick fix. I could understand this fee if the technician drove out just to repair that part but that was not the case. I considered signing up for there by an bi-annual service program, but this caused me to decide against that. read more

I have had Veteran Air USA out to my primary residence and rental unit. First off they are on time and so respectful when they come greet you and come in and out of my home. Second, they do a great job of limiting the damage when it comes to repair, replacement, or just maintenance needed. Last, I have one unit that is 30 years old and they checked it out and gave it a clean bill of health after doing some preventative maintenance, but let me know the cost of a new unit and savings that a new unit would bring in energy. My sister in law's A/C died on a Sunday in 100+ degree heat. After leaving a message for a different service company that we'd used before and not getting a response, I turned to yelp and immediately saw Veteran Air's info and a whole lotta positive reviews. I contacted them Monday morning and initially they couldn't get out to service the system until Tuesday. But 15 minutes later they contacted me and said they had an opening for Monday morning. The office and tech kept me informed of his ETA and he arrived on time. The tech quickly found the issue and gave me options for how to proceed. After agreeing on the fix, he had the system up and running in a few hours. Fortunately he had all the parts on his truck. Veteran Air sent a HVAC tech to make the indoor gas furnace blow cold air again. The service tech replaced the indoor fan motor without first checking if the part is covered by a warranty, without considering crediting the value to me. The service tech also depowered the fresh air intake, which caused a nest of safety issue in my home. The way my house is designed, the fresh air intake is crucial to having a sufficient amount of fresh air enter. Without it, the air stopped ventilating. I experienced carbon monoxide poisoning, due using the gas stove under this poor condition: the carbon monoxide accumulated indoors to a dangerous level, because of a lack of ventilation. I experienced the symptoms of having a sharp headache and intense drowsiness. Due to this crisis, the fire department had to get involved to be sure the CO indoors dissipated to a non-lethal level, to prevent needing to be hospitalized. I had to request Veteran Air credit back the value of the replaced indoor blower motor to receive it. The technician recommend opening doors to address ventilation issues, which can also pose a serious risk of criminal intrusion. I was told there would be an estimate sent to me for them to replace the fresh air intake, instead of waiving the fee even partially to account for the poor workmanship. And talking like this while I'm dealing with a severe headache and fatigue from the aforementioned CO pollution. read more

We called and requested a seasonal system check on our Air Condition. They were able to schedule us within a few days. Their technician Isaac notified us an hour before to let us know he was en route. Isaac was very courteous and friendly and listened to our concerns with the system. Title: Unprofessional and Subpar Service from Veteran Air Review: I hired Veteran Air in San Antonio for an HVAC installation, and my experience from their install reflect significant concerns on their quality and professionalism. This is my experience from their installation technicians: 1. Trash Left Behind After the installation, they left a large amount of trash in my attic. We had to call them back to remove it, which they did, but this should have been handled when they installed the unit. 2. Bracket Too Tight on the Ducts The tin strip bracket holding up the plenum was affixed too close to the air ducts. This posed a risk of cutting into the ducts and causing future damage. Although they fixed the issue after I pointed it out, this kind of oversight indicates a lack of attention to detail. 3. Overflow Drain Blocked by Sensor The overflow drain was blocked by a shutoff sensor. When I questioned why so I could understand, I was told this is their standard operating procedure (SOP). However, I contacted another HVAC certified installer, who informed me that those sensors often go bad and don't trigger the shutoff. Blocking a drain is poor practice, as sensors often fail, and when it does, it could result in the unit flooding, causing even more damage. 4. Sagging Plenum and Leak Risk The return plenum is sagging below the unit and since the secondary drain is plugged, any leakage caused by a malfunctioning sensor will dip to the lowest point (the plenum) and flow onto the drywall, risking water damage. Despite this concern, the company didn't address the problem since working on the plenum isn't in their contract even though they had to alter the old plenum to attach it on the newly installed unit. In my view, a new plenum would be inclusive to a new install as it is a low-cost item and only makes sense to install a new plenum onto a new unit to avert any issues or concerns. Had I known it was not inclusive, I would have requested it as it seems to be a lack of quality and customer service to resolve this issue. 5. Failure to Communicate About Critical Issues Furthermore, I was informed from Veteran Air that they knew about a hole in the return plenum but never informed us. After installation, I found out their salesperson had taken photos of it but never disclosed this major issue, demonstrating either a lack of transparency or knowing we would have to call them to fix this issue, at my expense, when the defect would cause a problem later down the line. 6. Incorrect Air Filter Provided I was contracted to receive an Aprilaire filter, but they installed a different brand. Although they agreed to change it after I noticed, I suspect they wouldn't have done so if I hadn't raised the issue. 7. Cut Into Beams and Ladder Frame To fit the new HVAC unit into my attic, they cut into the attic ladder frame and the supporting beam--twice. This weakened the structural integrity of the beams, and the ladder is now unusable. Removal of the ladder during install would have prevented the damage but the installation technicians took to cutting the frame of the attic ladder and support beam. I was not informed of the ladder problem and learned of the issue when I tried using the attic ladder a few weeks later. 8. Unprofessional Fix Proposal When we asked them to address the ladder damage, their solution was to replace the frame only. They ignored the beams that also had been damaged. They also planned to reuse the old ladder instead of replacing it, which seems to be a patchwork fix rather than a resolving an issue caused by their poor craftsmanship. 9. Broken Promise on Gravel and Foam Concrete The outdoor condenser unit had erosion beneath it, causing the slab to tilt. Their salesperson promised they would remove the slanted slab and place gravel and foam concrete under a new condenser pad for added stability. However, they only placed the condenser pad on the existing, slanted slab. Later, they claimed their company doesn't offer the service of removing slabs, despite what the salesperson promised. Advice to Future Customers: Make sure every detail discussed by the salesperson is itemized in your contract. Also, ask about whether plenums will be replaced and ensure this is included. In my case, Veterans Air took advantage of my lack of knowledge and is now unwilling to repair or replace items that a quality business should take responsibility for. As a result, based on my experience, I cannot recommend Veteran Air. The lack of communication, substandard work, and patchwork fixes indicates a company that does not prioritize customer satisfaction. They took care in my home during installation, redid the inside a/c closet (insulated walls and replaced floor with metal floor), and were responsive with everything I asked of them.
