A late Poshmark sell prior to my flight to Detroit prompted me to pack my shipment to take with me. With me flying away from Chicago the weekend of, I had no interest in waiting a few days to ship my item. As a Poshmark Ambassador, I always strive to ship my items within at least two days which keeps my shipping status at 1.3 average days. This post office was my life saver from having to leave my package inside of one of the blue collection mailboxes due to its 8:00 PM closing time on a Saturday. I was very grateful that this location was near my hotel because I was not in the mood to drive far looking for a post office or dropping it off inside of a blue collection mailbox. When I walked in there were only a few customers inside. Only one of those customers was ahead of me as I waited to hand off my package, so that it could be scanned by the clerk. One thing that I took notice of was the genuine interaction coming from the clerk directed at the customer. It gave me a warm feeling because it is something I rarely encounter while at any post office. And as like with that customer, the clerk was very friendly and informative with me of the process of my package being scanned, and the placement of my Poshmark label for further shipments. Lately, we have been here multiple times! It is definitely a better post office and the service is quick, very proficient and it gets done as it should! We haven't had any issues with anyone here so far and everyone is always so welcoming when we come in! They are also open longer hours than we are used to coming from Grand Rapids where even our main post office closes by 6pm, 7 on holidays like Christmas or New Years! Plus you can park nearby and just hussle in and back in seconds, Yay! So, if you really need to get something mailed, definitely try them! They are always so bubbly and helpful! I honestly think they deserve a higher pay!! It's a rarity these days to find people who actually are still passionate and love what they do!! I know at times it probably can get tiring but they still put on a smile and get you taken care of!! Thank you to the whole crew because you all to above and beyond! September 17, 2022, my relative and I went to the acceptance facility at the main post office located on 1401 W. Fort Street for a passport. The picture was taken, the necessary information and documents were given, and the payments were made. I asked the woman who took the picture and processed the information, if two photos were printed out. Her response was that two photos were not printed out anymore. Inquiring from others, we were informed that two photos were printed, not just one. One photo goes with the passport application to the State Department and the 2nd exact photo (same duplicate photo) goes to the customer, whose picture was taken. After numerous calls and no response to the number provided for the facility, the 1800 275-USPS was called. The agents/representatives spoken to were knowledgeable, helpful and professional. Each case was opened with a number. We wanted the exact 2nd duplicate photo, that should have been received on September 17, 2022, and for the reason why it was not received. A supervisor from the facility was assigned to the case and I believe she did her best. On September 27, 2022, the supervisor for the case informed me that the photo came out blurry and was disposed of. I hope this is true, that the exact duplicate photo was properly disposed. The very nature of the information and documents provided and collected are extremely important. In the wrong hands it would cause devasting effects that would be insurmountable, life altering and damaging to the person and loved ones. It would not have been hard for the woman who processed the information and printed the photos to have been honest and forthcoming. We would not have had a problem with that! read more

Worst branch of the US Postal Service's operations in Michigan. I've had a P.O. Box here for years now and almost every single package is delivered late to my box, sometimes up to 7 months late! Sometimes the packages don't arrive at all, they mysteriously disappear in the mail room. Oftentimes, the packages that do arrive are opened. Every single employee here is rude, barely literate and woefully unqualified to work for the United States Postal Service. The USPS needs to investigate this branch for malfeasance and corruption. They need to majorly improve their customer service here. No wonder USPS competitors like FedEx and UPS are taking away so much of their business. It's because FedEx and UPS have far superior customer service and offer a tremendously better experience overall. read more

The Fort St. location is the post office I tend to use most - pretty much on the corner of Fort St. and Trumbull St. I'm not certain, but judging by the GARGANTUAN size of the building structure, I think this is probably the processing station for all of SE Michigan, and perhaps for the whole state. On that assumption, I've always led myself to believe that by using this post office, my mail gets to its destination just a tad quicker than normal. Local, domestic, and international mail - all my letters have always arrived with surprising speed and care. The BEST part is that the service stations are open to midnight during the week and 8pm on weekends... i'm not talking about the do-it-your-self talking machines... I'm talking about USPS employees... a huge benefit if you need to get something out the door on the weekends or after hours. The interior of this post office is not unlike any other - perhaps a little roomier than most, but not by much. There tends to be 3-5 people working the windows (actually, this place doesn't have windows, just open space - but I didn't know what else to call those little stations), and any line-up, which is not that often, tends to move quickly. Also, there is free street-side parking across the street, and metered parking in front. But I've slowly discovered that nobody pays the meters and nobody checks. People will park right in front the main door, which is a bus stop (!!!), without hesitation, despite the fact that "postal service police" cars are also parked out front. So, park wherever you like, apparently. I do. Given that the term "going postal" originated from incidents that occurred ABOVE 8-mile in the early 90s, I take pride and comfort in using this (almost) downtown service. read more

I have never had a positive experience with either the branch or the delivery from this station. I think the fact that they misprinted the station address on all their notice slips tells it all: instead of 1401 W Fort St, it is printed "Forst" St. Did they correct it? Nope. The first problem I had is when I went in to get change of address cards. You can do it instantly online - for a fee. The fee is the "verify" your identity, which is the biggest subterfuge for money grabbing I've heard, since filling out the cards manually - which is just as accepted - requires no validation and no fee. Thus, why I went in person. It just so happened that I was combining a couple of address - my old one, my POB, and a house that I'd recently bought as a rental. For inexplicable reasons, the cards are hidden behind the counter so that you have to wait in line and ask for them. Worse, when I naturally asked for 3, I was told I could only have 1. And why? No reason. That's just how many the ration is. I don't believe there is any such regulation, but I actually had to quarrel over what was a perfectly legitimate request on my part. The second problem is that I am still not receiving all of my mail. I don't know where it goes - perhaps in a dumpster somewhere - but I received an average of 4 pcs per days at my POB and I receive an average of 1 every 3 days at my home address. The mail is put through a door slot, so there's no chance it being stolen as the problem. The third problem, which is an extension of the second, is that carriers routinely leave slips without ringing the doorbell or otherwise trying to deliver the mail. This has resulted in enormous delays. One carrier made the arbitrary decision to hold an unrestricted package from delivery, and left a slip. I called the automated number for redelivery. I filled out a slip for redelivery - which was ignored for a week and never picked up from my mailbox. I hand delivered my slip for redelivery to a carrier. I called the route supervisor twice. Three weeks later, the package was finally redelivered. Three weeks. I also just today attempted to pick up a certified letter from the station - a letter the carrier made no attempt to deliver, since I was at home when it came through the mail slot. In spite of having several government IDs with my name - which was on the slip - the carrier wouldn't give it to me because my IDs don't have my street address. There is no regulation which supports this; in fact, I could have sent an agent down there for the letter, since it wasn't restricted delivery, just certified. So, I left the slip for redelivery - we'll see if it arrives any time soon. I also brought a box down for pre-paid shipping. I needed a piece of tape. They gave me glue in the midst of tape guns. Then, the woman was dissatisfied with the not unsurprising fact that the shipping label wasn't stuck well everywhere. Rather than adjust it herself, or stick a piece of tape on it, she chased me to the door to get me to come back and tear the edge around it. I am not actually a libertarian who thinks government can do nothing right, However, whatever their problem is at this location, I certainly understand why anyone would avoid doing any business with USPS at all, if possible. In addition to the insanely escalating prices and curtailing of services, their customer service blows and their performance is way, way under par. It's a good paying job that requires basically no specialized skills, so you would think there would be some happiness in at least doing it well. read more

This post office is HUGE!!!! The #1 awesome thing about this location is that it is open LATE - M-F 9am - 10pm, Sat 9:30am-9pm, and Sunday 12pm-7pm. (according to usps.com) Amazing!!! The tellers can be a little grumpy (although I think this is a pre-req to work in any post office anywhere) but are generally efficient and helpful. What I've discovered in the last year is the beauty of the self service machine in the lobby entrance. If you have a credit/debit card on you, and you're just looking to ship, this is a great and fast option, as there is hardly ever a line. There is ALWAYS a line of some sort inside, but it moves pretty quick. Only complaints are the meters outside....make sure you pony up that quarter because the "postal police" (WTF?) in their marked cars are always around and will ticket you. Not sure what else a "postal police" person does...but ticketing me is one of them I know. Also, the drive up drop box on Fort is horrible placed. It is on the south side of the street, next to the lanes that move traffic west. Basically what I am saying here is that in order to drop a letter into the box you can do one of three things: 1. have a passenger riding in the seat next to you who can drop it in from their window, 2. park in a metered spot just next to the boxes, phyiscally get out of your car and walk the letter to the box or 3. make sure there is no oncoming traffic and quickly pull through to the westbound lanes driving in opposite the direction you should be going. A mess!!! I suppose there's no room to create a circle drive there, but sheesh...there must have been other options they could have done. Oh well. read more

I understand the social and political issues the USPS may be having but I can't help but to be upset. My friends mother makes one of the best Red Vevet cakes in which I hadn't had in about 20 years. She sent me a cake for Valentine's day from Florida, express. It was mailed on the 11th, I didnt get it until the 24th. It was inedible of course. It was 82.00 to send and she was told later that they knew it would be late. However they purposely didnt inform her of that. I could have driven the 1800 miles and picked it up faster. In my opinion, this may be the worst post office in the nation. I have had countless packages delayed. Every time I track the package though USPS, the package moves smoothly through the entire process up until it gets to the Detroit location and then it is delayed by one week or more. I would suspect management is to blame but could be wrong. My friend and I ordered the same item through the same website last week and he received his two days later. Here I am sitting here a week later without my product. Difference, his package did not have to route through the Detroit USPS location. She went searching for papers to show me this book was a restriction. She didn't find it. I showed her the USPS website which states that the only requirement is the book has to be at least 8 pages. It is convenient being downtown and always room to park. However from the time my tracking number says its been delivered to the time it hits my mail slot, it could be anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks. Every single time it takes way longer than usual, the person behind the counter just shrugs their shoulders and says -we are all backed up and have no idea when they will process this... I have also had 3 packages in the past year lost. Again no accountability at all. They can care less. There are 2 or 3 people who do a good job and seem to care. Yes the United States Postal Service downtown main branch is open 7 days a week and that means business people can get it done. I love going to this post office because they have a self-service kiosk right inside the door. You can come here at midnight and you can mail a box because they have a big container that will accept it. Parking is across the street but that's okay because it's in a lot and you don't have to worry about getting a space or ticket. I like that the machine will print out as many stamps as you need and even complete all those declarations that you have to put on packages sent to Canada. If you're looking for a post office and you don't know where to find one just use your GPS and go to main post office Detroit 48226. it doesn't matter if it's Christmas New Year's or Easter you can get what you need done right there in the lobby. I send a express one day package on May16,2017 it was suppose to go to Detroit Michigan May17,2017 estimated delivery time was 12 o'clock in the afternoon California time so makes it 3pm out there my package was last scan at this location something went wrong my bank calls me @ 10:30am California time the day of suppose delivery day for fraud alert stating that someone made a credit transaction at a RITE AID in or around this area for a total of $211.36 for a visa debit gift card!!! What In Gods Name!!! Just WHY??? I had a package scheduled to be delivered yesterday. It was at the location in time but apparently (according to the rep later in the day when I quoted about it) there was a system outage. He then instructed me to call a phone number in the morning to request for them to hold my package at the post office. So I call and a quest for my package to be held the representative simply asked for my address I gave her my address and she said the package will be held. A couple hours later I get a text update that the package is out for delivery. Despite my request to have it held. I called again while I'm on the phone with a representative my packages delivered. Literally while we're on the phone the tracking info updates to delivered. She then says she will call the mail carrier and ask them to pick my package up. I call back to confirm with her that the mail carrier was able to pick my package and she said yes. She said I can pick it up from the fort Street location after work today. I go to the four Street location no package to be found. No one knows anything not one thing. I'm told to simply try calling again in the morning. Seriously??? I waste a good 45 minutes to an hour in total for a second day in a row attempting to get my package. Like WHAT THE HECK. I'm So upset. read more

This is the main branch. 3 out of the 5 tellers are very slow. There is always a line however they have the machine you can use so they you don't have to stand in line. But you got to have a debit or credit card. I love that machine. Most people act like there scared to use the machine so there's never a line at it. read more
