Recently, we had two packages marked as delivered on separate days, both noted as "given to an individual." However, our camera footage shows the mail carrier scanned the packages but did not leave them at our residence. I spoke with a representative at the post office who took my information and said they would call me back, but I never received a follow-up--and the packages still have not arrived. I would have appreciated at least a return call acknowledging the packages were scanned incorrectly, along with a sincere apology. Additionally, we've noticed that our longtime mail carrier, who served our route for years, is no longer delivering our mail, and there have been several different carriers over the past few months. i have dogs behind an eight ft gate in a fenced yard where carrier has lied stating my dogs were out or on porch so no delivery, and now my neighbor tells me the carrier. This is the worst post office I've ever been to. Detroit, get it together. They are CONSTANTLY upping shipping rates yet they can't get enough employees to cover retail. I went there on a Thursday and stood in line for 30 minutes. There was 8 people in line and ONE employee at the window. I came into Detroit at least 45 mins early before work hoping I could ship something and eat lunch. My fault for thinking a trip to the post office would only take 10 minutes tops. I was in there for 20+ minutes. There was a second employee doing stuff behind the scenes just standing behind the window. The poor girl working alone was trying to juggle so many people at once. She was so nice and friendly but it's awkward when they ask you to fill out a survey when there's such a poor experience! Just read these reviews on yelp, it's not hard to see that this place is awful. It feels like it hasn't even been updated since the 70's or something. Thy don't even have a kiosk like most post offices do. Do people who go there even know what a kiosk is? It's this cool electronic stand, where you can pay for shipping and buy stamps and do other things without standing in line! Sometimes I feel like Detroit is NOT living in the present moment. I drive over an 1 hour to this post office every Saturday because of the convenient closing time which 8pm. On this particular day, I walked in later than normal. The time was 7:53pm and to my surprise Dwight was closing the doors. He proceeded to tell me to hurry up and I stated I was walking as fast as I can and I also informed him I had just suffered a knee injury. Then he rudely said "naw I mean you need to get here at 7pm". I can see if I was causing an inconvenience, but my packages are already prepaid and I'm in and out. I tracked my package and the notes said they had left a reminder in my mailbox and it was a lie. Everything Susan L described is DEAD ON. It's 2010 and nothing has changed. I get mail maybe, MAYBE 3 times a week. If I get a package, it is post person dependent on whether they will even leave me one of those salmon slips despite me being home and waiting. Only ONE of the 3-4 post persons I see will actually bring a package to my door so he doesn't have to leave a salmon slip. Definitely had a package that was delivered per tracking online and it says it was delivered 4 days ago, but NO SALMON SLIP. Then they couldn't find the package! And then (this was a Saturday) ... my package mysteriously appears on my doorstep AFTER the mail was already delivered that day. Basically, they are known to hold packages hostage. It's true. It's so bad that I begged my family to never send me a package, but send it to Vman where at least he gets mail delivered ... EVERY DAY. Because I DREAD going to this post office. I've never actively avoided a place that was a necessity before. It's so so so bad. Basically, this post office is like Detroit personified with mail. Why this PO is worse than yours: 1. no automated vending stamp machine thinger. Not the fancy one where you can weigh and print out stamps per package NOR even a crappy old fashioned stamp vending machine!!! 2. Packages have a way of disappearing. If you don't get tracking on everything you have shipped to you and you live in Midtown, you're screwed. 3. No drive-up pull down mailboxes. Nope. Gotta go inside to mail a letter. But first! 4. You must bypass the unofficial official handicap door presser opener bum, and 2 others. It's like the fairy tale with the trolls under the bridge and asking 3 questions... but not. 5. Unless you live in a WSU campus building, you will never get your mail every day. Fact. 6. In order to deliver a pre-stamped package, it has to go through the double-sided gigantic bullet proof glass chamber. Because they don't want us going postal on them. Last time I went here, I was desperate. It was 11:30am on a Saturday and I knew it was closing soon and I had to deposit a pre-stamped package that day. I parked (horrific parking situation, you pull out coins to pay the meter and you then get asked for the "spare change") and saw the usual door-presser at his station, and 3 other sketchy people hanging out on a street that has NOTHING to loiter in front of other than the post office. I swear to you, I sat there. For five minutes in my car. Debating. Do I really want to go through this again? I didn't have time to make it out to the burbs to get it delivered.... Gah. Worst post office in history. Glad it's not just me. HOWEVER -- I'd like to add -- there is one postman who looks like he's been a postman a long time. He's really nice and does his job. This was our post office during the almost-three years we lived in Detroit (2005-2008). Here are my notes from 8/8/07: There was no mail on 8/6 and that has never happened (no matter where we've lived). Then there was almost no mail on 8/7, which was really strange because it had been two days already. I talked to the lobby desk person (at our condo building) and she said the mail carrier had felt ill and left without sorting the mail on 8/6. I thought there's a law saying the mail *must* be delivered unless it's a federal emergency, so I was very surprised and annoyed that the post office didn't send out a substitute carrier. I then phoned our post office and asked for the carriers' supervisor. I was put on hold interminably, so I finally hung up and called back. I was *again* put on hold interminably, so I called back yet again. The third time, the person went to get the supervisor - but eventually returned and said the supervisor was on the phone. At that point I decided it was time to talk to the post office manager. She wasn't there and I called a few times throughout the day, but finally I left my contact information. When she hadn't called me back by nearly closing time, I called again and she conveniently said she was "just about to call me" (yeah, right). It turned out that she hadn't even been *informed* that our mail carrier had gone home sick & hadn't delivered the mail - and when I asked why the carriers' supervisor didn't send a substitute, she wouldn't commit to agreeing that it was illegal to not deliver the mail. She promised to call me back the next day, but she never did (what a "shock"). I called her again the following day and she didn't apologize. Meanwhile, she said she'd spoken to the supervisor and "90% of the mail in our (condo) building was delivered on 8/6" (how convenient that our mail wasn't part of the *supposed* 90% [I didn't even believe that *any* of the mail had been delivered, since I definitely trust the people at the lobby desk instead of the postal workers]). She also said that summer is a "slow" time for mail (???) - but I told her we'd suddenly received a *lot* of mail on 8/8, which was obviously because we were *supposed* to receive it on 8/6 & 8/7. Since that detracted from her theory, she didn't respond. I then asked if she'd discussed with the supervisor his neglect in not sending a substitute on 8/6 and she said "most definitely". I hope she put him on probation.... Another anecdote about our Detroit post office: I had a few postcards I wanted to eventually send to people in Europe, so I decided to buy the stamps ahead of time. I was told the cost was $.60/each and I bought the stamps. Later I decided I wanted to send another postcard to Europe (I hadn't yet sent the others) and I bought the stamp, at which time I was told the cost was *$.80* - and when I asked why it had only (supposedly) been $.60 just a few weeks beforehand, the clerk had no answer. Since I didn't trust *either* clerk at that point, I called the postal service's Customer Service number when I got home - and I was told the cost was actually *$.90*! How could the clerks at my local post office be so incredibly misinformed?! (Rhetorical question). That post office was also always out of high-value stamps (for example; I had to buy four $.20 stamps because they didn't have an $.80 stamp. When I asked why, I was told they don't often sell high-value stamps and therefore they don't ever stock them [?!]). Lest I not forget, there's the "bum" factor: It's absolutely impossible to visit this post office without being (strongly) waylaid by bums in front - and there was always one who held the door open because he made it quite clear that he expected a "tip" for that "service" (there's no way *that* was going to happen). In all seriousness, I could never even open my car door without someone appearing right there. I was never physically accosted - and I don't scare easily - but sometimes it was rather uncomfortable. read more

Absolutely disgusting! Ridiculous wait time with only one worker. There were at least 12 others in line at the same time as me. Witnessed a "manager" [I assume she was, but can't be certain. She was not wearing a postal uniform.] speak condescendingly and curtly toward a customer who had a legitimate issue. This employee said she doesn't know what Informed Delivery is and couldn't answer questions about it. She was abrasive and combative while the customer was asking questions. When it was finally my turn, I asked for some postcard stamps. The worker [a different woman] asked how much those stamps are because she doesn't remember because they don't sell them. What?! If I could give lower than one star I would. I just moved here and they've lost SEVERAL of my packages already. Some of which contained limited edition things so now I just don't ever get to have them because they aren't in stock anymore! But that's besides the point. I have a small amount of furniture being stored on our porch because our basement floods SEVERELY whenever it rains and it's where we were supposed to move in (I lost a bunch of stuff to a flood in this basement actually, shortly after we moved in). To avoid damaging the furniture, we're storing it on the porch- a dresser, a loveseat, and two bookshelves with some odds and ends. The only time I ever got to interact with my carrier a couple months ago, he was EXTREMELY rude, and kept yelling at me about there being "dog shit on my porch! There is DOG SHIT on your porch! I am not gonna deliver your mail until you clean off your damn porch!" and wouldn't let me speak. After looking around for 10 minutes for this "dog shit," I found it; it was the first turd that had ever come out of my 3 week old kitten's butt that was so tiny it had fallen through a hole in the garbage bag. So I threw that away and moved the furniture further away from the door. And now? Weeks later? He's withheld our mail for DAYS with zero notice 5 times. Maybe more. I've called 3 times, and been told I'd be called back each time, and never was called back EACH TIME. His supervisor finally came out to see our house and try to work with us (we pushed the furniture FURTHER to the side. Hopefully we can bring it in soon, our basement is supposedly fixed. We're just waiting for it to rain to make sure). But I digress. The reason this whiny diva postman claims it's "unsafe" for him to deliver our mail? Which I only found out from his supervisor when I finally got her to come out? "He's afraid something will jump out at him." So after we pushed everything FURTHER out of the way, we got our mail for one glorious day before it ceased yet again. We call again. "He's afraid a stray dog will jump out at him from behind the couch. He's been attacked before, so that makes his unreasonable behavior okay." It's not. I hate this postman, I hate this post system (they've seriously lost probably 7 packages of mine? IT'S HARD TO TELL BECAUSE I'M NOT RECEIVING ANYTHING EITHER WAY) He's made us late on our bills, withheld medical information from me and checks from our house. And trying to get anything done about it is a nightmare! And now he's demanding that we either buy a new mailbox just for him so he doesn't have to go on our porch or that we remove EVERYTHING from the porch! Yup. We don't get to have patio furniture if we want, or decorate our house for Halloween because it might scare him too badly. A spooky bat might fly out at him. And from what my friend said when she went to the post office, lots of people were there for the same thing. Citing "Fear of dogs" as the reason their mail is being withheld. If you're so afraid of dogs, maybe don't have a job where you WILL have to interact with dogs. So yeah. This is the worst USPS I've ever lived near. BUT, you should try to get a job here. It seems they'll hire you even if you're completely wrong for the job and incapable of doing it, and you won't get fired even if you refuse to do the bare minimum and make up ridiculous excuses as to why, and even protect you for doing so! read more

I've always had good experiences when I've come to this location in person. The people behind the counter are relatively pleasant and they move at about average postal worker pace (which is admittedly glacial). Maybe I've just been lucky because every time I've been in, there have been at least two people working behind the counter and I've never had to wait more than five minutes. They definitely lose stars for home delivery issues. As others have mentioned, they seem to hoard packages before delivering. From what I've experienced, 2-3 weeks sometimes pass between the package arriving at the post office and going out for delivery. In my experience, they do not leave package slips. Ever. But they do, of course, ask for a package slip when you come in to pick up whatever they could not deliver. I'm sure this is an issue with our specific postal worker, but packages sometimes arrive broken because they are hurled over the gate next to our mailbox. I'm talking 5-10 feet past the gate. That's just unnecessary. It's true they don't pick up the phone when you call, but I'm guessing that's probably to prevent the people in line from mutinying if someone at the front counter gets tied up on a long call. In my experience, that's pretty typical for USPS so I'm not holding it against this location. read more

Unfortunately this is my neighborhood post office. It's not going to be the post office I go to from now on, but it's my neighborhood post office. I remember thinking I should review it when I first started on Yelp. I hadn't had any problems with it yet, and was surprised when I looked it up that's all I read about. I decided maybe it wasn't time for me to review it yet and forgot all about it. This past April I sent my mom a birthday card with a nice hand drawn decoration on the envelope. It never got to her, but came back to me mangled in a larger envelope a couple of weeks later, after I had already fielded a call from my dad telling me I was in the doghouse with my mom. Eventually it got to her along with another present for Mother's Day, as proof it was the North End post office and not me who had shit the bed on this one. Then again, at the end of last month I sent my 10 year old cousin a birthday card with an elaborately decorated envelope. I remember thinking I should buy insurance or get it tracked this time, but somehow didn't think lightning would strike twice in the same place. Well, it didn't come back to me mutilated this time, but it took two weeks to get to her, and she lives just one county away. I also ordered a map of Mars several months ago which I never received and I strongly suspect this post office had something to do with it. I never followed up on it, though I should have. I'm thinking of ordering another but having it delivered to my job just so it doesn't pass through this Bermuda Triangle of a post office. In addition to the pummeling this post office has received on Yelp, I've also seen people airing lengthy grievances to supervisors at least a couple of times when I've been in here. I'm determined that's not going to be me, even if somebody has my Mars map hanging on their wall. Rain, snow, sleet or shine, my ass! From now on I'm driving over to the post office on Fort St. I've never had a problem over there, and that was my neighborhood post office for ten years. And they keep longer hours, too! read more

I am beyond disgusted with the USPS. I ordered Christmas gifts that were shipped the first week of NOVEMBER! It is now 8:30 on Christmas eve and they have still not been delivered. They have been scanned in as arriving at the Walled Lake post office 7 different time. I understand that the holidays and covid have slowed things down but 7+ weeks is more than enough time to deliver a package that was sent priority. Not impressed at all. There's nothing bad to say except this post office is always busy busy busy. I'm glad for one that it's here because as a business owner I appreciate being able to pop in and get my packages mailed by dropping them in the box without having to stand in line. It would be so nice if there were more boxes that handle size a and larger boxes which don't weigh very much but just are bulkier and won't fit in the regular small slot boxes. Also about those regular sized boxes why do you have them regulated so that a cassette tape box won't even fit in them anymore? How do you expect people to mail things if they can't get them in the Box? Come on you are supposed to service you are supposed to be the people that we rely on in order to get things to other people. Can you please make it easier for us to mail things. Can you please make it easier for us to contact you with questions so that we don't have to sit in an endless Q to wait behind 3 hours of computer regulated non answering machines. I don't like customer service for the United States Postal Service because they don't have people anymore. If you had people such as the postal workers who answer questions at the counter you would really do us all a favor. This has been my post office for years now. Although I have been sorely disappointed in our letter carrier from time to time, I've never been disappointed in our post office branch. The guy in charge has always dealt with problems quickly (giving me his cell to call back when there were additional delivery issues) and the line moves swiftly every time I come in. Also, they have delivered packaging supplies to my house without making me come in to the branch to pick them up. And I love the climbing house plants that decorate the inside of the front desk area. I wish I could get my house plants to climb like that. read more
