Unity of Dallas is my church home. I love it! Here are reasons why: The People are like family, loving kind, thoughtful, inclusive and welcoming. Unity is a community of people who are thinking, questioning, considering and consuming wonderful information from the stage. Unity attendees are readers and students of metaphysics. They are interesting people with a high consciousness about purpose in life. The messages are ones you can take home and use during the week. This is why it is called practical Christianity. Last Sunday's Aloha service at Unity of Dallas church was inspiring and exciting. Reverend James Buchanan gave a sermon that moved me, and the music and festivities made all of us feel the spirit of God in our own lives. Our good experience began as we walked into the church and saw all the smiling faces of people greeting us at the door. And after our uplifting sermon and energizing music, we found large tables of enthusiastic, friendly people with large trays of brisket and many sides and desserts. I have to share my incredible experiences with Unity of Dallas! I came here from a good Catholic upbringing and a fifth born of a balanced family in Iowa. My Dear husband brought me to this church 29 years ago and our 28th anniversary was yesterday! This has been our home for 28 years and my Laurence used to work the sound room for Dr Donald Curtis. The church & congregants are so welcoming, loving, positive and judgements are left outside. We are so grateful that Rev James Buchanan has come to guide & lead us to our next spiritual chapter & our Divine selves. Thank you James for your speaking ability, production talents, and open heart of Love. I get so much inspiration from your messages that have fed me in so many times of need. I just loved the sermon yesterday! The imagery of the broken mirror when we see people as separate from us hit home. My husband and I talk about how people are just reflections of ourselves all the time. So I loved thinking about putting those pieces together, allowing us to finally clearly see ourselves for who we are and who others are at the core. I also LOVED James' statement of "Do you want to be right or be in relationship?" I have always heard the question "Do you want to be right or be happy?" and for me, those 2 things had to go together so I didn't really relate to it. But, since I am a very social, extroverted person, knowing that I am sacrificing relationships because I have to be right just doesn't make any sense. Thank you for this perspective James. I have been thinking a lot lately about all the different nuances and doctrines of different religions and it seems to me that we get caught up in the minutia and forget the overarching message. If you think about it, we are trying to describe a concept (God) that is indescribable with human words/thoughts/sounds/etc. So, no matter how many scholars want to study holy books and say they have the "right" interpretation of what God wants, we will never truly know. And even if someone proves something "beyond a doubt," it will likely change in 20 years because of new information or the current trend. So, if the only thing we know for sure is that we were all created in the the image of the one God who is love, then we must stop trying to be "right" and prove what we believe or why others should believe the same and just recognize and accept who we ARE, see the same in others, and be love. Myself and my wife drive 45 minutes to see Rev James. I want to explain why. We have tried other churches, and I do not feel a sincere message. In this church. Rev James is a life coach through GOD. If u visit you will see you will wall walk away felling like the sermon was meant for you. read more

The reason I gave this church five stars is the welcoming environment. When I first came here, I immediately felt welcomed by greeters. This is extremely important in a church especially to first timers because the first impression can not only make or break how the person will perceive the church, but it can turn off people from Jesus overall especially those people struggling to find themselves or are going back and forth/doubting/questioning their spirituality. You will win more followers for the kingdom with love, kindness, and positivity. After a person becomes wiser and more mature in the word, then they can start to understand the hard stuff that albeit is true and real (sin, repentance). I think this church does a good job of balancing both sides with the teachings from the pastor and different people that come to speak. As a child I used to attend a very traditional orthodox Christian church on a regular basis. I have also visited Methodist, baptist, and many other churches and while I have learned from all of my experiences, this church was different in that the sermon felt non judgmental and that you could be of any religion and come here to learn about how to get closer to God. It won't scare you, make you feel guilty, bore you. I think it truly changed my mindset and helps me take actions to better my life. Church is how you-the person and all the other people make of it. The church is not the building. If one is close minded then it will be hard for them not to judge or to connect with others, which is the complete opposite of God and who he is because he is Love. I think if Jesus happened to stop by in his humble clothing and sandals with dirty feet then the people of this church would still welcome him. And if they didn't, it wouldn't be our place to judge. That person is still a human and will make mistakes. Jesus would forgive them so what makes us any better than Him the perfect lamb of God. Worship is how we make it or create it. It could happen on your knees at home or in a nice building with welcoming people like Unity of Dallas. read more

The folks here are very welcoming. I like coming here to check out their energy healing sessions. They have different guest speakers who come in every week to give uplifting talks on spirituality and those take place at 9:00 (mostly older folks). Then they have another service that starts at 10:30 - which I have yet to check out but the parking lot is full by that time so it must be popular. They also have a great little bookshop that offers all types of books on a variety of metaphysical topics. read more

If you are looking for a supportive community that will love and accept you no matter where you are on your spiritual journey, this is it! I grew up in Unity and was so grateful to find Unity of Dallas when my husband and I moved to TX. If you have kids, they will LOVE the amazing children's classes and adore the wonderful teachers. Tons of activities, great people, great interaction. I've been a Christian for about 22 years. I've attended MANY churches in that time. Pentecostal, Baptist, Non-denom, etc etc. I never attended any of them more than 3 times. It never took me long to see hypocrisy. To see these folks were, in some fashion or another, being un-Christlike. To see they didn't want to preach acceptance, but judgement. Not love, but separation. A common theme was "if you know a sinner, do not associate with them. That will lead you to sin". How can a sinner find salvation if anyone who can lead them to it is afraid of them or shuns them? I often wondered if these folks had actually read the Bible. I have, and my memory isn't perfect, but the only time I remember Jesus even saying the word "sin" was when he said "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." And I also know Jesus broke bread with "sinners" even when his followers objected. Unity is the closest I've come to seeing this in practice. Ever. Anywhere. They do not focus on and tell you how you're sinning. We can not live without sinning, so instead of rebuking, they try to follow what Jesus preached. Love. Love thy neighbor, love yourself, love God. He created you, and as such you have a part of Him in you. And they aren't exclusive. They welcome the brazen, the shy, the poor, the rich, skin color has no meaning from what I've seen, nor does orientation, nor mental or physical ability. There is love and acceptance for all who wish good and decency. They accept you wherever you are in your journey. Now I'll say one thing I'm sure the two one-star reviewers will agree with. The minister is far from perfect. Guess what though. We all are. And he knows he's not perfect and does not profess to be, commonly admitting during service to his fallacies. Nor does he ask anyone else to be perfect. Yes, he asks us to be the best we can. Should he not? Is that not what Jesus asked? He preaches love, learning, knowledge, understanding. I feel in my heart if that's not enough for a Christian, or anyone just wanting to spread love and harmony, maybe you aren't ready for that yet. It might be what you really need is healing, and that can only be done when that is what you seek, and only when you are truly ready for it. Every life is a journey and we must all understand where are at different places along the same path. And accept that. Only then is harmony possible. read more

We attended an event at Unity church off of forest. It was so awesome. I highly recommend this place for anyone planning a wedding or corporate event. Wow what a nice place and there staff was so kind and easy to talk too. They have so much to offer. I Don't even know where to start... Plenty of parking, easy access, nice location, the banquet rooms are awesome.... You just have to go see the place. Thanks Unity for the great experience!! read more

If you haven't visited Unity of Dallas lately you will be pleasantly surprised by the rebirth of our energy!

Although the facility is very nice, and the congregants are extremely friendly, I do not recommend this church as a legitimate spiritual or Christian place of worship. The reason for this is the current spiritual leader, Rev. James Buchanan. I found him extremely fake and "showy", without any real spiritual depth at all. His Sunday talk consists of a PowerPoint presentation with quotes and photos as if he is doing a school project, trying to fill his time since his actual knowledge is so lacking. In a recent newsletter from Unity, Rev. James shared that he got a girl he just met last August pregnant and now they are engaged, while she is in her second trimester of pregnancy. That action proves to me the falsehood and irresponsibility of his character, and gives a terrible example to the youth who attend Unity. read more

I happened upon the church and was extremely pleased. Everybody I came in contact with was very nice. I returned the following Sunday and experienced the same. Very kind people who love God and you. I have been hooked ever since. I have been to other churches that are surface oriented in regards to their faith and worship of the Lord. These people are genuine and I enjoy going to church. read more

The church is very kind and supportive. Reverend James is a very nice person with a good heart. It was unfortunate that he was put in a very awkward position by a woman who he did not know. He is doing the best he can with the situation and we will continue to support him whenever his decisions are in the future. read more

Hello, Just wanted to make an observation about the Christmas Show that was put on this year. SAD!!! SAD!!! You just went to hear good old Christmas Music and got nothing resembling Christmas Music. Off key from start to finish. I compared it to fingernails on a chalk board. The music dragged so badly and the voices were so off key. From the first 4 ladies singing to the end. Horrible, will not come back next year. Talked friends into going with me then felt like an idiot. We all went to dinner after and one by one they all gave their honest opinions. I had the opportunity to visit Unity of Dallas today and felt welcomed by so many... The feeling was warm, authentic and sincere. Even though Rev. James was gone, clearly their team of experts made everything perfect for a lovely experience. I was a guest in the past, a year and a half ago and said, "I'd like to give the message here some day." Today was the day... and it was a 5 star experience. All the way! They have a nice youth group, young adult group, lots of classes and activities for all kinds of growth from spiritual to learning how to speak with Toastmasters and their congregation is broad in age, color and relationship. A great group of open minded people with the light of God surrounding them. The love of God enfolding them, the power of God protecting them, and yes, where ever they are... God IS.
