I purchased a Sub-Zero Pro line refrigerator and freezer from UAKC. The overall experience was incredible. I highly recommend the experience from product information to purchase to installation. Product Info and Discovery: I was surprised to learn that not all Sub-Zero retailers are the same. Given that we already had a Sub-Zero and were replacing it after more than 30 years of usage, we started our process at the Sub-Zero showroom in Costa Mesa. This location was purely informational, as they don't sell at that location, but we were able to see and compare every unit. We visited a Ferguson Home but was disappointed at not being able to see the unit we were looking to purchase and because the salesperson was not fully aware of all the features of the model. We ultimately purchased from UAKC because the units were were interested were not just side by side, but powered on to the same level of coldness that you would have in your home. That was huge for us as it helped us understand how cold our drinks would be and how cold our foods would be chilled in each compartment. Purchase: I worked with MD Rayhan on the purchase process. MD was helpful in providing "crowd sourced" feedback from his other customers to help me choose between the Pro and Classic models. Specifically, I wanted to understand if the Pro freezer was going to be too small (it runs about 50% smaller than my prior Classic freezer) or if it was simply moving along with the consumer trend toward more fresh foods. Given that Sub-Zero pricing is fixed regardless of retailer, MD helped me find manufacture rebates that I qualified for and was market competitive on installation costs. Lastly, MD helped find inventory and schedule my delivery so that I could get the new unit installed as soon as possible. Installation: UAKC sent a four person team of certified installers led by Juan and Alex. The certified expertise was helpful because it got us a longer 3 year warranty, but the expertise around the equipment was also invaluable. From unboxing the unit on our driveway to carrying the 650 pound unit up a few stairs, removing a door and leaning the unit through our doorway, everything was done professionally, cleanly and with no scratches to home or refrigerator. They even polished the unit and removed all the plastic film covering the stainless steel panels so that the refrigerator was ready to be used. The entire process took about two hours. Couldn't ask for more. read more

This entire experience was a let down from the very very start. The 24" Bosch oven unit we ordered was back ordered for several months. Not the biggest deal breaker but a big inconvenience nonetheless. This was only communicated a few weeks into the process. Upon attempting to deliver 2 months later, the drivers arrived with a damaged unit. We denied this and demanded a new unit but were quoted another month. Neither Bosch nor Universal appliance did anything to help expedite the process. I felt like I was the one bothering them the entire time. I finally caved and decided to look at other options which were all more expensive. I was looking at a Miele unit but after some research realized my breaker wouldn't be able to support the added amperage. The company denied my request to check out the damaged unit and instead wanted me to have them install it and then repair it later, all at the expense of my time. After 3 months, I was ready to give up and requested a refund. I tried over the phone and in person at the store but was told it was being ran up the ladder for approval both times. Nobody seemed in a hurry to help and instead mentioned that magically my new Bosh oven arrived. The manger told me that the refund would be processed by end of the day which never came. The next day when I called and spoke to the same manager, he quickly eluded that he was on another phone call once he recognized my voice. Needless to say he could even be bothered to return my call. I wasn't sure why it had to end so ugly, but I reached out to my bank to disputed the charges since I paid 3K and never received anything. Such a horrible experience and still never got a call back. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

Go elsewhere! I hired Universal's service department to repair my Bosch convection microwave that I originally purchased from them. Over two months, their technician made five repair attempts (with several late and no-show appointments), replacing part after part, leaving the unit in worse condition each time. They finally left me with an unusable appliance and Angie the service manager tried to argue that it was in better shape than when they started. They did refund me for the repair attempts but disputed responsibility for the condition the appliance was left in. Bosch later informed me that Universal was not an authorized service company despite Universal's repeated assurance that they were. When I decided replacement was the best path forward, Universal was cooperative on pricing (their sales rep Ryan was fantastic). However, upon reviewing their purchase agreement, I learned that installation and removal are performed at the customer's sole risk, and the company disclaims responsibility for any damage caused during installation or removal, including damage to the appliance or the home. Management confirmed they stand by this policy. Given my experience with their service department and these installation terms, I chose to purchase the replacement elsewhere. I'm sharing this so others read their contract carefully before proceeding. read more

The house I purchased came with built in Viking appliances. The refrigerator was a problem, the seller was a regular with the service techs and soon we were too. Eventually it was time to replace. We learned it was 14 years old at the time. I started calling store about replacements and learn about costs. My god built in fridges are expensive. Most stores don't post prices either. Talking to Dan at Universal was the best. He guided me away from Viking and towards Sub Zero and other superior products. When doing that he went through the spec sheets to see which would fit in the cabinet most similar to the existing fridge. Built in refrigerators are a tight fit and our existing cabinetry, water and electrical outlets might have to be adjusted. How complicated could this get.... Very. Fortunately, we were guided by Dan and Universal to a floor model sub zero with a nice discount and a full warranty. The install team removed our old fridge first, giving us time to measure check and relocate the waterline and add shims for the new fridge. It was not without stress or additional cost. That's the trouble with built in appliances. In the end we could not be happier. The install guys were happy too how it fit. It took a lot to make it happen. When building your kitchen, do not do a built in fridge. And if you have to replace one, measure a a lot, read the install instructions, ask a lot of questions and go to universal appliance. read more

After manufacturer technician came to verify ALL issues w. my refrigerator he also recommended to replace the unit and said that mfr issuing a refund and picking up defective was not true, it is the store's responsibility -- this entire conversation was recorded. To this day, more than two weeks later after doing my due diligence, they refuse to issue refund and remove the defective item. I have been without a working refrigerator for two weeks, have lost food, and cant keep any food cold. UAKC will only do like for like replacement or have me purchase another one from them -- essentially holding my money hostage. After this experience I wouldn't buy another item from them, what if something happens to the next refrigerator, it'll be the same thing w. uakc. Know your rights as a consumer, know your resources. We purchased a refrigerator from universal. Several months later, we decided to proceed with redoing the entire kitchen. We returned to Universal to purchase the entire suite of appliances for the new kitchen of the purchase, they agreed to uninstall the refrigerator so that our contractor could demo Everything. We arranged the demolition day. I emailed and called to confirm beforehand with no response. On the day of the uninstallation, nobody showed up. Turns out that they had not actually arranged for this. They did not make it right by sending somebody out that day, saying that they were busy. The earliest they were able to come was later the following week. With any large purchase, having faith that one party will do what they said is critical. Universal failed us. We lost several days on our timeline, which was quite expensive. When I raised this issue with them, they essentially told me to deal with it and that we were lucky they had agreed to do it in the first place. Attempts at speaking with management were rebuffed four months. Unfortunately, given our nonrefundable deposit, we have to proceed with the purchase, but I would not trust these people to do what they say. There are many other establishments that will both provide you with appliances and honor their word. UPDATE: owner says that they comped the service to make it up to us - they service was thrown in to secure the large order and was always free for us. I purchased over $16k worth of appliances from Universal Appliances in Studio City during the pandemic. During that time I worked with the sales manager Maida Magaña and we had to wait nearly 8mons for the appliances to land in LA and a bit longer for the installatiin. Considering we were in a pandemic this was not the issue. My issue was there was confusion with an additional item I was instructed to purchase and was ultimately due a refund for that item. After an email exchange and conversation with that sale manager that she would refund me the cost of that additional item, I never heard back from that manager nor did I receive the refund. For months afterwards, I continued to call and email as a follow up with absolutely no success. I would not do business with this company again. read more

I live in a 100 year old house and needed to replace my dishwasher. It seemed like a fairly straight forward task until I learned that most current units were simply too big for the space. We ordered two different models online using the published dimensions but when delivered they could not be installed. As a final effort I walked into Universal Appliance in Studio City located near my house, and was greeted by Joanna Vallelunga, who listened carefully to my story and then proceeded to locate a Bosch unit that should fit. She arranged for a experienced installer to visit my home and confirm the dimensions and then delivered the perfect unit. Installation was trouble free mainly because the Universal installers were highly qualified and had the work done in less than hour. This is one instance that I'm glad that for some reason I didn't listen to the Yelp reviews and went ahead with these guys anyway. We were renovating our kitchen and our contractor suggested working with Dennis Pesikov at Universal. During our first visit, I totally forgot to make an appointment and we just showed up to their store. Unfortunately Dennis was tied up with another customer so we just walked around ourselves. I'll be honest, their layout is nothing like Pirch and we got overwhelmed with everything in the store. We sorta wanted to just use Pirch instead after looking through half the store. Surprisingly Dennis reached out to us apologising for missing us when it wasn't even his fault. We were honest and told him that the store overwhelmed us so he suggested two options - if we didn't mind heading back when we had time he'd walk around with us or if we knew what we wanted he could send us a quote. We ended up choosing the latter and this is where Dennis totally went above and beyond and blew our minds with his top notch customer service. Price wise it was comparable everywhere since we were getting Wolf / Sub-zero appliances but unlike other stores (including Pirch) who had a year long waitlist, Dennis made it happen. Our renovation was supposed to be done by March which was when we'd need everything but we were told by other stores that usually Sub-Zero released their fridge in April each year, then you'd need to queue on the waitlist. The earliest we could expect our appliances would be end of October 2023 if we were lucky. For some miraculous way Dennis had inventory!! I have no idea how he managed to make it happen even when I wanted to customise everything and have both the fridge and freezer in random sizes. The entire process from placing the first deposit all the way through to final installation was completely white glove and flawless. No delays nor issues thanks to Dennis having our back! He consistently makes himself accessible if we have any questions or need anything. Even when he's traveling he gets his assistant to help us. No joke, I wish I had more appliances to buy. I had Universal do a couple of appliance repairs over the years. Never again. I had an issue with a Bosch dishwasher. I was quoted $500+ for repairs. I ended up buying a $15 part online and it took 30 minutes to replace it. This is for a person with zero experience. Most recently I needed a high-end range repaired. They quoted $795. When I asked them for backup to review parts and labor, they refused to tell me what needed to be replaced or how long it would take. Only that the parts were $345 and labor $450. The person on the phone was happy to tell me that it was their company policy not to provide detailed information. I've never heard of anyone not providing backup for what will be charged. I ended up calling a different factory-recommended service provider. Parts turned out to be $125 and labor $250. And they were perfectly willing to provide me with the details I requested. The bottom line, Universal is dishonest and all too willing to gouge and rip people off. P.S. @Yelp. Please add a negative star option. It would be more appropriate here than the one I am able to give. read more
