I've been getting my hair cut here for the past 3 years since I was a sophomore at BC. Michael is always very easy going and receptive to whatever you want. I personally just show up and let him cut however he wants and I've never been disappointed. The cost is pretty standard for other barbers in the area. I had headed down to check out another nearby barbershop I'd seen online to get a trim, but there was a bit of a wait outside. I went back to Michael's because there was no line (about 1pm on a Friday). All of the barbers (Michael, Dave, Felix) were very friendly and funny. I've been growing out my hair from an undercut and was on the fence about shaving the sides. Dave helped me decide to keep growing out the sides and cleaned up my sideburns and neck. It sounded like Dave is a newer face at the shop, but he has been a barber for 10 years. I really appreciated the time he took to talk to me about my options for the cut and his attention to detail during the cut. I'm new to the area and don't know how the price compares to other shops, but $25 before tip was well worth the experience. I'll definitely go back. read more

I called to check on if they accepted walk in or by appointment only. The person on the phone said "yes we take walk in's" very rudely like it was a dumb question and before I was able to ask another question or say thank you he hung up right after. Went to another barber that did a great job and I won't recommend anyone to them ever. read more

I have said in other reviews of barbershops that my cut is pretty difficult to frack up, but it can be done. This place proved the latter. I had to go get a second haircut 4 hours later when I got into better lighting and saw how uneven my half bald head was. FTR? might be due to lack of customers. read more

I walked in with really long hair, since I hadn't gotten a cut in about a year. I was nervous that the barber would screw it up because it's hard to deal with hair that long. He told me not to worry and he would take care of it, and he sure did! This is one of the best haircuts i've ever received, and he definitely has a loyal customer for as long as I live in Brighton. This place was great. The atmosphere has and old school barber type of feel. Michael is a funny guy and the people who drop in are hilarious. Its like getting a haircut in Jerry Seinfeld's house. Now on to the cut. I began to tell him how I wanted my haircut. I usually have to explain to a new barber how I want my haircut. He told me to shut up and let him work his magic. Well it turned out great for the most part. He left my hair a little more even then I'm used to but at the same time he hit everything else perfectly. A few years ago as I went to sit in the chair at Michael's I started giving a lot of specifics as to what I wanted done, and he basically said 'shut up, I'll make you look good.' He didn't actually say "shut up," but whatever he really said was more polite and was basically that friendly way of fake-waving people off. Granted I was terrified at first, because for all of Mike's merits as a barber, I wouldn't want the hair style he wears, but then, you know what? He made me look good. He also stocks cycling magazines and Outside, which is a nice change of pace from the crap you get while waiting at most of the barber shops I've been to in the past... except for the one I went to when I lived in Silver Spring, MD that was owned and run by a really nice woman from (former Soviet) Georgia--she actually had Playboys out for us!! read more

I've been getting haircuts in this area for six years now. Supercuts was the convenient place for me to go when I was an undergrad at BC, until I'd finally had it with sloppy hair cuts for $20. Michael was a breath of fresh air. I don't know how he does it. He just started cutting without really asking me what I wanted, got it done in 5 minutes, and it came out great. Michael is fantastic! Definitely the best haircut I've had in the US! I have been looking for a good barbershop since I moved to the US last year. I have tried a couple of them, and every one of them left me with terrible haircuts. Gradually I developed a barber-phobia and tried to avoid getting a haircut as long as I could. Now, this is not coming from someone who has nice, straight, easy-to-cut hair. My hair is a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern, so it is thick and hard to deal with. And it was a couple of months since I had my last haircut, so you can guess the mess. When I sat in the chair, Michael very nicely explained what he would do. I am terrible at explaining what I want at barbershops, so it was a blessing that he got me without a word from me. Unlike some people trying to get you done in five minutes so he can get as many customers as he can, Michael really paid attention to my hair and took his time to get everything right. The result is very nice! I am really happy I have finally found somewhere I can go without slightest hesitation. As Michael said, try him if you can handle looking good! read more

A basic one-man shop right in Brighton Center. Mike will listen to how you want your hair cut and do it that way in reasonable time, say ten minutes or so. What more do you want? There's usually street parking around, also a free public lot across Washington Street, downhill about 150 feet. Highly recommended. read more

I willl never step into this place again. This guy started by complaining how long ago i last visited him.i've been there twice before , his haircutt is mediocor at the most, and i returned the 2nd time since he is close to my work and not so busy. It took him 5 min tofinish,and when done did not return a change from 20$ bill although thye guy before me he took 16$. this is ugly. You can't spitt into the well that you are drinking from. Been coming here for six years, and would not go anyplace else for a haircut. If you are looking for a fancy men's salon, this is not your place. The place is old, and a little messy, but the barber seems to have an innate sense of what your haircut should be.
