They will straight out lie to you that they will do something ( an un-emptied bin that you need them to return to empty, a large order pick up that you had scheduled, etc..) and will never fulfill the request. I called UWS sanitation company to pick up my bulky trash in advance of 3-days, and they just never arrive although they receive timely payments from me. The customer service agents state the trash will be picked up today when I place the second call, and no one arrives on the second day. I call the 3rd time and the agents state "OH FOR SURE IT WILL BE PICKED UP TODAY," not true. They continue to make false promises and blaming dispatch. It's never good when a company makes false promises to customers. Where's the CEO?!? What is this individual doing to remedy the situation? You have customer service agents not being truthful to customers sounding frustrated and UWS putting stress on them for the actions of a bad business decisions. Scheduled a bulky item pickup last week for this Wednesday. I called twice to follow up and was told that someone would be out the following day. On my 3rd call, 3 days later I was told they would not be picking up the items due to a shortage of drivers. I have a party tomorrow morning and asked them to see what they can do to help me out, since I don't have space for these items and the best they can do is have a manager call me back within 24 hours. Now I need to look for a local junk company and pay hundreds of dollars to have the items picked up. Worse customer service, they should have mentioned this the last two times I called and not the last call I made. read more

We've been with Universal Waste for many years--primarily because I really liked our driver. We signed a contract stating the monthly rate. However, I noticed today that they have been charging my card (I made the mistake of putting on auto-pay) far more than the agreed upon price. When I called, someone named Olga was passive aggressive and just kept repeating that that was the price increase. Didn't listen or grasp that unilateral price increases that don't comport with a contract aren't enforceable. I suggested she put a manager on, or give me info for their attorney (someone with a brain hopefully). She said she would have a "sales rep" call me "when they can." Now I have to litigate with the trash company. So frustrating. read more

I don't know what type of operation they are running but do not use this company. First they changed systems the week prior to my service and the customer service agent that was taking my order had not yet been trained. When I gave her our company's credit card number she told me the system was asking her for an "odometer reading." Clearly whatever she was doing was incorrect. Odometer readers are in CARS not your credit card!! Second, I offered to pay via check and asked for and estimate/invoice for my finance department. The agent then stated that she couldn't do that bc it had not been paid. Any business in the world will give you an estimate even if they use a template from MS Word. Apparently no one could get it together to type up an estimate/invoice. Finally, after unpaid with my personal debit card bc their system wasn't taking the company card, 1) I couldn't get a receipt and had to BEG for a screen shot to show my finance department and get reimbursed 2) the trash bin was delivered IN THE MIDDLE OF MY EVENT. It was so unprofessional with no supervisor to speak to to ANYONE who knew anything. Any where you go, you can get an estimate: plumber, party planner, manufacturer, Jiffy Lube etc. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A BUSINESS NOT BEING ABLE TO SEND AND ESTIMATE OR INVOICE. I am only giving them a two because the representative that answered the phone today at 323-923-2825 around 4:00pm was extremely pleasant and apologetic. She definitely gets an A for customer service. We started new service sometime in 2018 as an apartment complex. It was a brand new building and we had 27 units to fill with tenants. We started out with service once a week for our blue recycle canisters and black trash bin. As tenancy increased the trash increased. Common sense would tell anyone when your trash increases you need to increase the number of days for pick up. So when I called LA Sanitation - the company you have to go through to make changes which is mind boggling, but I put the request in for Wednesday and Saturday pick up for both services. I began to notice that every Saturday there was still a missed pick-up and that every Monday I had to call and report a missed pickup (see pics). Finally after a month of missed pick ups I called Universal Waste Systems to see what the problem was. According to my representative Shane, the request for 2 day service for the black trash bin was not made, and the request for the blue recycle canisters that was made was incorrect because they didn't do blue container pick ups on Saturday (and when was someone going to tell us this?) During the conversation she spoke over me to make sure I understood that I never confirmed with her that I wanted the black trash bin to be serviced 2 times a week. Even after I explained that it would have been completely ridiculous for me to only request pick up for one set and not the other, since I have been witnessing the weekly increase. Again she spoke over me to let me know, well YOU NEVER CONFIRMED a 2 day pick up for the black trash bins. By this time the conversation was one sided. Now our trash is overflowing because I NEVER CONFIRMED a 2 day pick up for trash that obviously needed two days. And all those Saturday missed pick ups were my fault because we obviously needed a 2 day pick up that I never confirmed. With all this great customer service going on I called the main office for Los Angeles to ensure my request was CONFIRMED. I am thankful that the customer service rep that answered was personable and apologetic. She assured me my request was put in and that I could request a new representative if I needed since they are the ONLY company in our area that hauls trash. Unfortunately we are stuck using their service but hopefully I will get the same representative when I call in with future issues which I am sure there will be. read more

Reported to the company next days a few times throughout the day, but Amanda insisted that drivers have time until 6pm. 6AM following day, trash still did not get pick up and here we are stuck with full trash bin over Thanksgiving LONG holidays for UNIVERSAL WASTE SYSTEMS. This company is the worst. Since their taking over (from previous company) services in October 2022, they have raised their rates 2 or 3 times, according to my research. They are dishonest and currently trying to charge us for services that they never rendered. We asked them how to start new service at a home. We asked in January '23. They dropped off the bins near end of February. Their 1st ever p/u was in March. They are trying to charge us for services back to November, '22! They refuse to fix their error/our bill. The supervisor was very rude and belligerent, claiming that there would be video evidence that they did service our address but no such video exists because it's untrue. When we asked to see this non-existent 'proof', suddenly just radio silence! We'll fight them in court if necessary because companies need to realize that not everybody is just going to give in to extortion and pay $ just to avoid court hassles. It's now been TWO weeks and UWS has skipped picking up our recycling for the second time, and that makes it a total of NINE times that they've skipped us since we moved here in 2014. My wife and I are thinking of maybe putting the big bin in our van, driving over to UWS and just dumping the recycling on their property, maybe even in the lobby, since we've run out of room and we have recycling coming out of our ears at this point. As you probably know, UWS has the WORST customer ratings in the entire city. Hundreds of 1 star reviews from people who get NO response from their horrible customer service. Maybe we could even get a few dozen other fed up customers to do the same? We're at the end of our rope, or should I say we're filled up to the bursting point. I asked KTLA Channel 5 if they'd be interested in covering the story. The good news is, at least it's just recycling and not the really smelly trash, although they've skipped us for that too in the past. Pretty good staff. The ladies at the office are very kind and nice. Easy to talk to and understanding when theres a problem. They are quick to fix problems. Now the trash pick up guys- for the most of them - they are great and easy going. But a few are nasty and mean. All in all they work pretty hard. read more

NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! Used a third party to obtain a dumpster. https://fivestaruniverse.net/ DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE services. I filled out a form stating what I am disposing and would receive a quote. Simple as that, no hassle upfront. What that means is they are going to have a massive amount of hassle when picking it up. They come back to pick it up but fail to tell me that it is too heavy till well after the fact. I asked why I was not contacted with this issue; they told me it's not part of their protocol. Very frustrating, I work from home so there was no knock at the door or phone call till after they were heading back to their HQ. Then they have the audacity to charge me not one but two times for their "dry runs", even though I have to single handedly, empty the bin myself. This company is taking me for a ride, when all I want is the stated service they provide. How is anyone supposed to believe your bins will carry anything, if you can't even back it up with an ounce of accountability? This is by far the worst trash company we have used. You pay the bill on time and they don't even pick up the trash when they are suppose to. I advise the supervisor in charge (Lilly) about the concern i had of them not picking up some of the trash when they are suppose to as it has happen more than 5 times. Her response was ( u never called more than 5 times) with a bad attitude and arguing with me as If I am the liar and this is my fault. Reviewing Dumpster Rental Only - This company is our county contracted residential trash pick up and I am pleased with their service and reliability (4 stars pleased)- no complaints on that front at all. Their dumpster rental, however, is a very different story. Last summer we had work done on the house and I rented 3 dumpsters. The folks picking up and dropping off were fine - the back office tactics and service were abominable. They have the shadiest billing practices I have ever experienced. I was charged 4 separate times for "extra" charges on 3 rentals (over weight, extended time on rental period, etc.). I was charged for an extra dumpster I never ordered as well. I think they are used to dealing with big commercial contractors who don't have the time or resources to dig into the charges that aren't high enough to catch their attention - but I am not one of those folks - $475 was significant in my world and I spent hours on the phone getting them to explain and reverse charges made in error. Since I had no way of weighing the dumpsters, I could not prove they were over charging me on overweight unless I accompanied the driver to the dump which will not ever happen. I was fine with all that - I am an honest consumer who will pay what is owed and I know that construction is a universe unto itself. But then 8 months later they sent an attorney to collect all those extra charges again and threaten me with collections! The attorney was kind and very humane - he gave me time to gather the evidence (credit card records) that showed I had already paid all the over charges and confirmed that the claim was being cancelled. I want to give this company the benefit of the doubt and say they are the winner for most disorganized billing dept but have to admit that I have a sneaking suspicion they are not morons but crooks. I don't think this review will effect their business model or the market share they own but want to put a warning out there for the next person they try to dupe. I can't guarantee that any other dumpster rental company is any better but if you choose to do business with this company, keep copious records, make photocopies and keep a file on hand for the inevitable collections call you will receive at some point down the road. I'd say to get receipts from them but good luck on that front and hope your construction project goes well! read more
