I filled out their online form requesting a quote. I was in a loud gym when I did it. Within 2 hours I received 6 calls, several texts and an e-mail. That was a week ago and I have been berated with more calls and texts than any other company I've ever given my information to. I work in sales and understand how lead generation works. I will not work with this company. I wanted siding for our modest single wide mobile home plus new gutters. A Universal Windows guy came out and spent 1 and a half boring hours puffing up his company. The spiel was that they have the best installers, the best product, the best Customer Service etc etc etc. I have since seen online that they totally rip people off with shoddy installation and wrong size windows, siding, doors, etc I was expecting new siding and gutters maybe $5000 or $6,000. The guy looked me right in the eye and quoted me a price of $67,000. YES $67,000!!! I almost became instantaneously incontinent right in my easy chair. You could purchase a new mobile home for that. I looked over at my wife when he said $67,000 and she looked deathly pale. The room started to spin....$67,000!!! He kept pressuring me to sign a contract right away. Over and over he wanted my signature and said this was just a quote not a contract. He kept on wanting my signature. I am so glad I said no because I read online reviews after he left and I found out that it was a standard practice of their sales people to trick and deceive people into signing a "quote" whereby they are on the hook for THOUSANDS of $$$$ Please folks PLEASE for your own good STAY Away from these people. read more

I've added pictures to help follow along with this review. In the picture you can see the price for 14 windows goes from $47,000 to $9000. I see this with every contractor that advertises on tv. I feel terrible for the people who pay the $47000, most likely the elderly. I gave them 3 stars because I want people to read the review and learn from it. The difference between $47k and $9k represents about 4 hours of negotiation according to the home owner. She said she didn't think he would ever leave. These salesmen are trained like navy seals. Please please please be aware of these tactics and don't be afraid to tell them to leave. Horrible experience! Watch your quotes, I bought mid grade and they installed low grade. They measured the window opening twice and still did not get the windows made correctly. The windows came in smaller than the opening and they tried to use excess blow foam to install! They had nails and metal left laying all over my drive and yard. Aside from cracking my new fan light cover upon installation of my windows in 2022 from the not-so-high-end installers, Universal Windows direct continues to blow up my phone with sales calls. Besides the fact that I referred my parents, who used their services last year in 2023, I still cannot get my referral bonus money $150 no matter how many times my mother tries to remind them. I've called their customer service line # 5 times today, which always goes to voicemail. However, they ALWAYS have a person to talk to for sales. The windows were "okay". Since the knowledgeable sales rep Fred G told me most windows are made from the same manufacture, I'd suggest using another company who will actually follow through with referral bonuses and answer the phone for your customer service/non-sales issues. read more

***I am going to start with the sales process: -June 13th, 2020; our order was placed, and we were super excited after Universal being the 5th company we heard a pitch from. We were excited and happy with all of it. We ordered a front door and 13 windows for our house in a very nice neighborhood. -We have a measurement person out on July 9th to review all the measurements. Turns out that our door and windows were ordered in the WRONG color!!! I was told that I was wrong, and I ordered tan windows when my house was gray. Un NO!!! They did a change request to modify the colors before it goes to production. The change request was then trumped by someone and tried to be set back to "clay" instead of "gray". I said NO I am not accepting that at all. That was corrected again. (I have the paperwork to back all of this up). We thought all of this was fixed -We received an email saying that our order was in and we should see our windows and door around Aug 20th. That was WAY OFF and I am told it was because of COVID. OK; fine... We receive an email that our "Product was delivered". That was only for the door and we had to wait for the windows. Then we get a call from the shop manager saying "Let's install the door then we will come back out when the windows come in." So, we scheduled that for September 25th. Again, Excited BUT NOPE!!! The Door came in with the wrong colors... So, I sent it back. Long story short... Take a discount off the door to keep the colors and paint it myself (OH this voids the warranty) or wait weeks for a new door. I took the discount and have yet to paint the door. -Got a call that the windows were in. So, we schedule the install for wrong door and windows. NOPE only 12 of the 13 windows are in. Sorry, not sure where the windows is. NO RESPONSE from anyone until I texted the local manager to ask, 2 weeks after they were here (Texted Today). Still no idea where my window is. ***Install and Product Quality (The installers were super nice guys though!): -Door Trim is wrong color (Shocker by now). Please see the pick. Does not come close to matching what I have in the house. Gaps, quarter round not even installed, and the door threshold flexes by half an inch... I can stick my fingers under my door for crying out loud! There is nothing under it to support it!!! -I had nice trim around my windows. I have a pic of my garage window that was not replaced for a comparison (Last pic I think). The use this cheap tin casing that covers it all up. It has gaps, calking to fill it in. I am SHOCKED by this. This is what Universal Windows gives their installers to work with??? -Bought 3 slider windows... Every time I open them, I feel like they are going to jump out of the track they sit in. ***Current Summary as of Oct.13, 2020; Missing a window, door is the wrong color, poor quality, trim for the door is the wrong color and shape and size. I feel the product quality is horrible and NOT worth what I paid for it. Even with a $1,500 discount I received for a wrong door that I must paint and void the "finish warranty". TL;DR: I had to constantly contact THEM to find out why things weren't getting done and they did a horrendous job cleaning up after themselves and respecting my property. It all started when they had to reschedule the estimate visit. Twice. The first time, they didn't call to tell us until the guy was 5 minutes late. The second time was about 10 minutes before the visit. The estimate itself went well, and we ordered our siding. This was in mid June 2019, and we were told it should be wrapped up mid August. After receiving the first two billing statements of my financing, I called to see when they were going to schedule the work. Yes, I had made 2 payments and the work was not even scheduled. I had even received a customer satisfaction call from the finance company, and an email from Universal. I made 3 calls in 2 days before getting a person to tell me that the warehouse had our color on backorder. It was now late August and the soonest they could schedule me was the week of Labor Day. The materials arrived and were placed about 95% in my yard, but were tipping so far that I had to take a wide angle around them leaving and entering my garage. I wasn't worried too much, because that meant the work was starting the next day and all would soon be fine. Day 1 of installation came, and at 4:30pm, when my wife arrived home, she called to tell me that nothing had been done. At all. I had received at least 2 (maybe 3) emails confirming my installation date. I was livid. No one that could help me was still in the office, despite their office hours only being from 9am-5pm. That's exactly 8 hours and the Customer Service manager couldn't even stay the whole time. When I finally spoke to someone the next day, they told me I would get a call back from the Regional Install Manager. This guy was either oblivious or a liar. He told me the local install guy had left the company the previous Friday, and if this regional guy had checked, he would have told me siding was backed up. It was now another week before I would see any work. So, I called the day before the 2nd installation date to confirm that someone would actually show up. Surprisingly, they did. However, when I got home that evening, learned that they had only found out in the last half hour that the wrong color trim was delivered. It had sat at my house for a week with the wrong trim and some of it was already on my house. I told them to fix it. They arrived the next day with the correct color trim and work continued. The next week, my family went on vacation and I was nervous about them working at the house while I was a few states away. A friend was checking on the house and said they were finished on Monday. When we got home the Saturday after that, we found my fence open to the world and lots of trash all over my yard. I'm talking fountain drinks from the convenience store, nails, razor blades, screws, and various trimmed bits of siding and soffits. I called on Monday to speak with Customer Service. This was unacceptable. My children and my dog play in the back yard and these idiots didn't even try to clean up after themselves. After sending a dozen pictures of the state of my yard, they offered to send the supervisor out for another cleaning sweep and to offer me a Visa gift card. I took the gift card, but in 20 minutes of me walking around the house after their 2nd cleaning pass, I found a third of a plastic grocery bag's worth of trash that I've added to over the last few months as I find more and more trash. Don't do business with these folks. I don't understand how they have an A+ rating with the BBB. They also told me they would take me off their list for follow ups, but called again just the other day. I did not answer I'm done with these people. read more

So we stared the last part of April, 2019 to have all the windows and front door replaced. It is now February 2020 and finally the last window was ordered and installed. The salesman told us after them coming out more then twice they don't make any money, lol. So after the installers finished today they have been here 4 times. I ordered my windows in early June of 2021. My windows were finally built in October of 2021. I had an install date of 11/1/21. I was told that the install would take 3 days. The installers were supposed to be at my house at 8:00 am on 11/1/21 The Universal windows company ask that you give the installers a 2 hour window in case they have traffic issues or product pickup issues. The installers showed up after 11 am in fact they showed after 11am each of the 3 days. I ordered 27 windows from universal windows direct only 26 were made correctly supposedly the one window that was made wrong is on order maybe. I cannot reach anyone by phone or email to confirm that. I was assured and guaranteed a team of professional and knowledgeable installers would install my windows. Universal sent 2 Mexican men in an old truck pulling an old horse trailer to install my 27 windows. The guys admitted that they were not employees of universal windows direct. The 2 were contracted out to do the job. I tried calling the Indianapolis office with no answer of course and no return call even though they ask you leave your phone and job#. The 2 started working and to my surprise they got all 26 windows installed. The 3rd day came 11/3/21 and about 4pm they tell me they cannot finish framing and caulking my windows on the outside of my home. I asked them when would they be back to finish the job I was told 11/6/21. I waited all day on the 6th no call no show. I took a walk around my house. I was told that they only had 4 windows left to complete but in actuality they had not completely framed or caulked any of my windows on the outside. I even found some buckling and missing caulk on the inside. I called the Indianapolis office on 11/8/21. I spoke with someone in customer service I told them about my situation they told me someone would call me from scheduling and get someone out to finish my windows. I received a call late the same day. I couldn't get to my phone a message was left that Humberto would be out some time the week of the 8th to finish the install. I have not seen Humberto since the 3rd of Nov. I called again on the 15th of Nov. I was told that I would receive a call back I have not received a call. I have read a few reviews today and I see the 2 Mexican men with a horse trailer are a common practice for Universal windows direct and fact that these 2 gentlemen have walked away from other people's homes without finishing the job. I guess that is a Universal windows direct trademark. Universal windows direct boast about installing the most windows but in fact their window install is unprofessional and substandard. The fact that they take advantage of unsuspecting consumers without as much as a phone call is incomprehensible to me . the reviews I have read most of them are shockingly negative requires a class action lawsuit. I am appalled the Angies list & Home advisor as well as Greensky would work with and promote this company with their terrible an unprofessional business ethics and practices. read more

Two hours later, I get a call from a second salesperson setting up another appointment, not realizing I had already scheduled the first. Okay. I can let this go. Then, I'm woken up at 8:10am from a THIRD salesperson! ... also trying to set up an apt. If they can't handle a schedule, I'm not sure they can handle installing windows in my house. They were also way too pushy making sure my wife would also be home. This was just another super annoying habit. Universal Windows Direct also was far too concerned about other quotes I was getting. That's part of the business Universal Windows Direct. Get used to it. Especially if this is how you run things. Each call sounded like an insecure girlfriend from high school. There are so many window companies out there. Use any one of those! Not Universal Windows D I ended up purchasing windows from Champion Window. They were hassle free. We had a visit from Universal Windows last year, got a very thorough explanation of everything from John. They were happy to answer all of our technical questions and help us come up with designs. A few things came up and we didn't decide right away but they were definitely our favorite window company. This year, Jeff came right back out and knew they had been here. He asked us how much of the presentation we wanted and then worked with us to figure out the complicated window situation. ***Update*** After a few quotes and offered a higher rated triple pane window for the same as their double and looking at the 37, yes 37 Better Business Bureau complaints for the Indianapolis franchise, I decided to spend my money elsewhere. I highly recommend to look at the BBB and shop around. Never sign at the sales pitch because this is how mine went.... I needed 8 windows and my original quote for double hung with low E, Argon and Muntins was + $27K but don't forget the buy 1 get 1 so then the price was $13.8k. Then when I didn't jump on it, I was offered a deal to let them put a sign in my yard for a 1 time offer of $11.6k. Then when the last call a few days later came, we was down to $7900 and a $200 Amazon gift card *** Original sales pitch review**** So far I've just been through the sales process and what I'm reviewing here. I've made no decision on who I'm using as of yet. If I decide to go with universal window direct, I will update as the process proceeds. I had a salesman out on Thursday May 19, 2022. He was personable and did honestly seem to believe in the product and wares he was there to peddle. But didn't seem as informed as he should be. May have been good enough for the average person that had never worked in the window/glass industry but lacked technical knowledge and seemed to only know whatever was taught at the employee orientation meeting. When I asked about a glue chip, rain or pattern 62 lite for my bathroom he said they didn't have anything like that. After he left I looked on their website and it appeared they sold, all three as an option. So, did he just not know what I was asking and instead of saying "what's that?" He just made up a no? He also did not know how the "nasa" engineered spacer adhered to the glass nor what a muntin was. Next was the "peel them off the ceiling" style sales pitch. God I hate those!!!! I actually told the scheduler if this was their style of selling that I would throw the salesman out of my house. I just wanted their pricing they would replace them for and would not need follow up calls offering lower prices, " if I act now" So down to my definition of "peel them off the ceiling" sell tactics. This is where the salesman throws out a number so high, it gives you sticker shock! Then they say but if you act now "like once I leave, you'll never get this price again" which is usually 50-60% less than the "ceiling" number. Then if you still act hesitant, here comes the "well beings I like you so much and we would like to get more business in your neighborhood" if you let us put up a yard sign for 30days we'll take another couple grand off, but you have to act now (of course) But if you hold off he eventually told me the "act now" price is good for 30days. At this point we part ways as I always get several quotes and research every company before deciding which way to go. Next came the harassing phone calls every day after the visit offering even more discounts "direct" from the factory! My recommendation is to wait for this call! You might finally get their bottom dollar "take or leave" price! read more

I called and asked to speak to her and was told "she has been gone from here for a long time". I responded back that her message was written to me today and that was why I was calling? Not impressed. Bought my house in February. Had older windows some were a little drafty. Decided to replace all except 2 on my main floor (10 of 12 windows). Now I have new more drafty windows that I have to pay for. Oh and one that they put in broken that still have not been able to get replaced. (Install was in August!) Not a happy camper. The installation went ok. But their accounting leaves something to be desired. We gave our deposit in April and it was cashed right away. There was a problem with one window that had to be reordered and it took until October to be replaced. Once we were satisfied with the finished product we made payment of remaining balance. Not only did the they charge the card for the remaining balance but they presented the deposit check for the second time. I had 5 purchases go NSF causing returned payment fees. read more

Absolutely horrible joke of a company. They have had 4+ groups of what they claim to not be subcontractors, but they are, come out to just replace a door and my windows. It has been over 3 YEARS, and they still do not have the correct door. The windows STILL have not been PROPERLY installed. I have also had at least 10 of their "managers" personally come out to my house to see all of the issues and damages. Each one swears they will make sure this is handled, yet it still 3 YEARS LATER, has not been. I have left message after message after message and am now not even getting a BS response from them. Now I find out I am closer to 11-12 weeks. They want to do them 2 weeks before Christmas. I was also supposed to get Colts tickets for tomorrow. They never showed up. Of course no one returned calls even though my first call was answered by an actual person. I planned on using them for siding if this all went well. I spoke with the company yesterday (Saturday) to schedule an estimate. I had asked what their availability was for Thursday, instead the guy pushed for same day. We had plans, but we decided to push things back to allow for the appointment. I was told to hold for the "confirmation team". I waited a long time, then the line disconnected. No one attempted to contact me back although they had collected my phone number, my husband's number, and my email. 15 minutes before our appointment time, I noticed that I had a missed call from them. I assume this is the salesman saying he's on his way. There was no message left and no further attempt to reach me. Twenty minutes after my appointment time, I called Universal to ask why no one had showed up. I was given no apology for the inconvenience, and asked to hold while they looked into it. Again, I held the line and AGAIN I Was hung up on! They didn't attempt to call me back not contact me in any other way. I do not recommend ANYONE to entertain this company with their business. If they can't handle an ounce of professionalism via the initial contact, I can only imagine the what their standards are for the install and final product. We called to get an estimate on adding a picture window to our living room after receiving contact information from a friend. The salesperson was nice & professional. He was very patient with us throughout the estimate process. We signed the contract & waiting for next steps. The service manager called my husband to tell him the salesman made a mistake & the window we chose was $1000 more than quoted & they would not be able to honor the price that was quoted. I'm not happy with this company, we feel they should have honored the price quoted. We are getting additional estimates & will go with another company. read more

We heard about universal windows from a friend and ended up running into a spokes person at the greenwood mall in September. We had a sales person ( Matt) come out a couple of weekends later and were super impressed by their product and especially warranty which gives us a lifetime and any one who buys the place 30 year warranty. Matt was also very nice, informative, courteous and was okay with our cat being slightly rude to him. It did take almost 12 weeks for our windows to get in but it gave us time to work with our HOA to get everything ready and cleared. They do have weekend installation options which worked when they had to cancel and rescheduled. I was very happy with the installation team that came, they started right away and were done in the late afternoon. Everyone on the team was nice, hardworking and very proficient at their job. They fixed anything that they damaged including going out and replacing a board they broke plus repainted. They cleaned up any of the mess and took the old windows with them.They also fixed our door ( which we didn't know how to and wasn't their fault it was wonky). I was very happy with all the work they did and it definitely helped warm up our house and make it very enjoyable read more

ABSOULUTLY Horrible!!!! Ordered 21 windows in January 2021. Arrived in May to install, started install and realized the frames were "Manufactured wrong". Stopped with 9 Half way installed windows. The job lead said he spoke with Corporate and said the new frames would be sent to the front of the assembly line and they would be back in a week or so to install. Never received any communication from them and rarely ever received a return call. They were supposed to be here today to finish the install, never arrived and when I finally contacted someone, Jake said "they didn't realize it was such a big job" and needed to reschedule. Back in May they scheduled two days to do the job and did not show up on day one. I finally got ahold of Jake with the Indianapolis office and he said they could do the Job in one day. So as you can see they make excuse after excuse. They also refuse to refund any money for the inconvenience THEY cause. I only gave one star because I had to. I would rate the a NEGATIVE 5!!!!! DO NOT DO business with them unless you like spending money without receiving the product and getting the run around! read more

I read positive reviews of Universal Windows and scheduled an appointment three days in advance to replace 10 windows in a house my wife and I are under contract to purchase. Less than 24 hours before our appointment a UWD called to cancel the appointment claiming that they could not visit a house without the owners because their estimator "could get hurt and they would not have insurance coverage without homeowner's insurance." Obviously this is not accurate as businesses can't operate without insurance for their employees. Further I had communicated this to the person scheduling the appointment. I found this late cancellation of an scheduled appointment unprofessional and dishonest. Avoid them! read more

Terrible installation, windows leaking and crooked. Been 2 months and still not resolved

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! 2 of our windows were measured incorrectly and we had to wait 3 more months to get those from the original install date. The installers broke our bedroom window and put a piece of plywood in it's place for 2 months while we waited for another window. Our front door was totally wrong and the wrong color. We had to wait another 4 months to get the correct door, after all of the windows had been replaced. The installers didn't use paintable caulk and they had to come back after our window frames were painted and caulk over every single window in the house. The installers have made at least 6 trips to our house. This was all over 20 months ago and we're still waiting for a piece that is missing on our front door. I have emailed one of the managers several times. He claimed he would have someone contact me and they never have. I can never get anyone to return any of my calls. I even tried writing to the owners and they never responded to my email. They have the worst customer service ever!!!! Real rating is no stars!!! read more

There were good things and there were bad things about our experience with UWD. Their windows are good quality (somewhat pricey). However, be cautious if you order their sliding doors. The salesman did not explain to us that the french style door (which was a $500 upgrade from the standard door) did not include the grids on the glass which their picture showed. Nowhere on their description did they say that the grids were another "upgrade" that was going to cost an additional $500! There wasn't even an option on the order form to upgrade to the grids. The only reason I wanted that door in the first place was because the grids made the door look so nice. They refused to compensate us for the upgrade and would not give us the grids without charging us. Also, if you get financing through them (from Wells Fargo), Wells Fargo will not contact you to set up your account. You have to go online, find your account number from your original paperwork, and then set up your account. I'm glad I did this because I was told that I would get an email from Wells Fargo but I never did. The installation was good and took 1 day. read more
