I paid for 4hrs of behind the wheel driving training for my daughter and I highly do not recommended to any anyone for the following reasons: 1. Car used for the behind the wheel driving training noted was a very old toyota. 2. Instructor(.i.e. Karam) was an older man, probably over 60 years old, not patient at all. He was argumentative and scolding and make no of encouragement during the whole instruction experience. Unable to book any other behing the wheel lesson from other other. The first session of driving behind the wheel was ok but the experience noted on the second sessions was unbearable and unconfortable. So, short, my daughter come home from both driving sessions stressed. So, highly recommended to stay away. read more

Almost never shows up on time and is uncommunicative. Cancelled on me the weekend before my 'behind-the-wheel' test because I brought up 'communication issues' on my third lesson, even though I had said this multiple times previously. His car is an 18-year old Prius with a squeaky accelerator with a terrible brake. Don't go with him. read more

I PASSED ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT!!! This was my first time ever applying for an American driving license and I was super nervous. However, I really wanted to pass on my first attempt as it was summer and I wanted to explore LA. I called several schools but was dissatisfied with the options versus pricing they offered. My criteria were I needed to be picked up and dropped off at home and I needed clear instruction on the rules as I have driven on the right hand side for 14 years, so I needed to build muscle memory as well! Mr Kamran answered on the first ring and was very clear with his pricing and what they offered. I found his pricing to be incredible value for what they offer. He is very thorough and right from day one, he would go one by one in detail and by the end of day one I was able to memorize 90% of the rules!! He is patient, kind and a great teacher! I appreciated his calm yet very direct style of communication! And two hours meant two hours! He did not cut the class short under any circumstance and if he waited for a few minutes, he did not count it as part of the class which meant I still received a full 2 hour session. He even went longer than 2 hours on some days! On the day of the test, he came early and did another lesson to help me feel confident before driving me to the test center. I really appreciated the methodical approach and clear instruction so much. From having no clue of the rules to being able to pass on my first attempt, I could not have done this without his instruction or this driving school! Thank you Mr Kamran!!!! read more

I wish I could give this instructor zero stars. Don't be deceived by his cheap price, he'll show you driving skills that are not applicable to the driving test. He'll intentionally make you waste time during practice sessions! You'll eventually pay him the same price you would pay anywhere else. Trust me, STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL! read more

Super happy! I took two hours one day before I had my behind the wheel appointment! I passed today. Thanks so much. He helped me a lot since I got my German license about 13 years ago to refresh and pass the test! Highly recommended. He took his time and also did a bit longer as he recommended and didn't even charge for it! He's the guy u should go to if u need lessons or before u have test with an out of country license. I know, HA, but I have my reasons, the first being that California does not accept foreign or international driver's licenses. Plus, I wanted to add this to my list for the automotively-challenged. Anyway, Kamran is the best. He's patient and kind, and he thinks Halloween is as bizarre as I do. Seriously, what other culture has a holiday where you just dress up? There are plenty of "day of the dead" holidays, but which ones involve the Hulk or a grown man dressed as a baby (please don't tell me you did this. I'd have to punch you in the kidneys)? Aside from being perfectly legal, University has, as far as I know, the best prices on the west side. A 2 hour lesson is $70, flat rate for road tests are $80. They'll ask for cash, but I asked nicely and they accepted my check. Don't forget your permit and good luck! read more

I did not choose this driving school because whoever answered my phone call was INCREDIBLY RUDE. If customer service to a POTENTIAL customer even before they get my money is THIS BAD, I can only imagine how bad it will be if I have even a little issue after I give them my money. 1. No actual person answers the phone. You have to leave your name and number to talk to someone. 2. When I finally spoke to someone, he was incredibly rude. He had a bad attitude and when I asked if they offer a discount for a 12-hour package, he pretty much said, ''Listen. Listen. Let me tell you something. You're already getting a discount with the 6-hr package. If you go higher, it's the regular price." -- He said it in such a condescending and almost scolding tone that I hung up after I told him I did not like the way he spoke to his potential customer and I will not be using his company. *I am not really finding that much reviews for driving schools so I find myself having to go with ballpark price ranges and the customer service of the people who take my calls. This place totally failed. I am going with Ford Driving School - price is cheaper anyway and the lady who took my call was incredibly friendly. read more

Passed from the first attempt!!! I was so happy to find this school as all other driving schools in West LA were booked a month ahead and were way too expensive. I took a few classes with Kamran. He was very easy to communicate with, thorough ad knowledgeable. He's also very caring and makes you feel comfortable and confident behind the wheel. I don't know why the hell did I choose them. I took 6 hours lessons with them last year. Why did it take me a full year to write a review you ask .... Hmm well here is the reason ... I had never taken drive lesson before. These guys just give u the wheel and expect u to know everything. The instructor had no clue what should I expect on the actual drive test. Never explained the control of the car ... Any kind of maneuvers (turns, what to do at a 4 way stop or 2 way stop) nothing at all. During my 6 hours of training i practically ran errands for him. I dropped of a cheque at his boss place... I took him to west Hollywood to his home so that he can get something to fix the mirror of the car n I took him to a fast food place so that he could use the rest room and went to the gas station so that he can clean and refuel his car for a drive test with another client later that day Recent I took 6 hours lesson with Abel driving school n I realized what a waste of money training with university driving school was hence the review. By the way I passed on my first attempt with Abel. These guys may be cheaper but u have no chance of passing the test with them. read more

This would have been a four star review, except that on the day of my test, my instructor showed up barely able to walk, and explained that he had a doctor's appointment later, but first he was showing up so I could take my test. That kind of commitment is awfully rare. Anyway, besides that my experience was very good. The two instructors I dealt with were both very friendly and knowledgable. As some of the other reviews indicate, they're foreign, and the cultural differences can put some people off. They're also very informal. (For instance, when we took a short break midway through a lesson, my instructor would often schedule it at a convenience store so he could pick up lottery tickets.) I thought it was sort of cute, but some people don't like that kind of thing. read more

All I can say is that my daughter has been waiting since 11:15 for someone from this driving school to pick her up for her class. It's now 12:27 and we have called 3 times. Oh sure he is on his way. If this company can't even manage to show up on time what makes them think they are responsible to teach anyone to drive. Stuff happens for sure but to not even call come on. I did the 6hour, 3 lesson, $230 total - about $20 per hour less than anyone or anywhere else in the area. It translates to $77 per 2 hour lesson, and I think it was a deal / is an ongoing deal right now. Cons; Driving instructor wasn't on time 2 of the 3 times - although since I had him picking me up in a pretty far-out location, I don't blame him for the 1st one. And there was lots of traffic. Also, he did a 10-min break in the middle of each lesson (same as the previous poster - to get lotto tickets). That may annoy some people, but it was actually helpful to me since it lets you get out of the car and relax for a couple minutes. Also, he added time to the end of the lesson so I wasn't cheated out on that end. Lastly: the car was not new at all (don't ask me which make / model), but it definitely drives and is safe, so if you're stuck-up about that sort of stuff be aware of it beforehand. Pros: Driving instructor was really nice and knowledgeable. And didn't freak out when I made some (read: many) very scary mistakes - just corrected me / hit the breaks before I could crash into someone, and stayed calm. He was also really good about talking and giving instructions all the time - in each situation he'd repeat what I needed to do and why, which really helped (I've taken other driving lessons with another company and the teachers didn't do that. Best of all: they Do Not do the 'back-to-back' lessons - the driving instructor picks me up and I drive to my own house at the end - no need to add another 30min to pick up another student. Its also really nice to have a private lesson, and the 'back-to-back' often means that you really end up with 1hr 1/2 or 45 min, not the full 2 hours - with this driving school you actually get the entire time you pay for. Other driving schools will charge you up to $30 for each lesson for this priviledge, jacking up the price difference even more. I didn't have to wait 2 weeks in between lessons, and 2 of my lessons were later than many other companies would allow (5:30 - and that I absolutely needed because of my work schedule). AND since I really need lessons with teachers who know how to teach you to drive... I saved a bunch of money!! (Pay by cash or check only). I'm getting more lessons (since I need them to be honest), and I'm doing it through this company again. And if it bothers you that the instructors are foreign (mine was Iranian, super nice!), that's your problem. read more

Horrible School The owner Kamran is both rude and foul-mouthed. I asked for extra time before the driving test and they told me to f... off. The instructor Eugene whose English was close to incomprehensible (due to extremely poor grammar and a very annoying lisp) was a total moron who spent half the time arguing with me instead of teaching me how to drive. The car was in terrible shape and almost impossible to control. OH MY GOD....THIS WAS AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE....JUST PLAIN AWFUL.... STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE! read more

I can't give 5 stars since I wasn't the one who took the driving lessons but I paid for it for both of my kids when they each became eligible for their drivers licenses during high school. Though years apart from each other, they both had Kamran as their instructor. I think by the time they'd taken their formal lessons with him they were already comfortable driving since I'd given each of them my own driving lessons at the VA compound where there are plenty of small streets to drive on with very little traffic to worry about. If it was just about cost then this would definitely be 5 stars and in the end my kids were happy passing their DMV driving test. read more

It doesn't get any better than University Driving School as far as I am concerned! I had my driving lessons with Kamran and you couldn't find a kinder, more patient and efficient instructor. I needed a few lessons to get my driver's license (previously had some driving experience).. I took about 5 lessons and passed the DMV driver test without a problem. Kamran even took care of scheduling the test and picked me up an hour prior to my test! All I had to do was bring my permit and remember the valuable driving techniques he taught me. As a mother of two (5 year old boy and a 5 month old baby girl), what i was looking for was someone who would teach me safe driving skills as well as confidence to handle the road with dynamism while respecting other drivers and pedestrians. Kamran more than delivered in all those areas and i couldn't be more satisfied. Did I mention that he had the best rates compared to all the other driving schools i contacted in my area? I am actually taking a couple more lessons with him to be more comfortable driving on the freeway. Would highly recommend this driving school!! read more

I am so happy I went with University Driving School. I waited late in life to get my license, and Kamran took that into consideration, asked me my driving experience and built my drive lesson on that info. He did not waste time showing things I already knew. He is very knowledgeable of the Santa Monica area where I took my test. I was comfortable with him, he is very gentle and thorough.
