So the Funniest thing is that I been looking for stores that accommodate my new diet. I was on my way to work and I rode pass this store.It is around the corner from my house. I promised myself that I was going to come here when I go off. Well I came, saw and conquered. I don't regret it either. Besides Mom's organic Market this may be one of my favorite places. I have a Gluten free diet so I am trying different options. There was a big variety in which I am so excited about. I bought gluten free ramen noodles, Cheesecake and a gluten free, non dairy Ice cream sandwich. Oh and some bacon. The Customer Service here was amazing. Everyone was nice and even the customers were nice. I was so happy find so many accommodating choices. Oh and they have GREAT sales too. read more

This oasis is like a secret underground labyrinth of goodness. Every time that I have gone there over the years, I discover something new. It is an amazing place and the staff is wonderful and are very well informed and helpful. The store has a huge wall of vitamins and minerals and supplements. Some are in a case. There are standard vegetarian and vegan fare. There is every kind of tea imaginable. Just so much. Don't let the small space fool you. Every available surface and nook and cranny has something. It is literally bath/ body/food/supplements/snacks/crystals/incense/sage and more!!!!!!!! Stop by. There is no pressure to purchase. I often stop by just to chat. Or browse. *take a big inhale.* When I walk into a natural health food store, I want it to smell like OK Natural Foods. I don't know what gives it that smell but I love it- it's like my health food store I grew up with. There is a little kitty that hangs out by the door and is super cute. The older guy working last time I stopped in? Not as friendly as the kitty...but he also didn't kick us out and the store was closing so that's a bonus. I love the wall of vitamins and supplements. It's a little store so not a big produce stop (get that stuff fresh from the farmer's market) but they have a ton of snacks, things on sale that caught my eye and a bread section. I stocked up on fire-roasted canned tomatoes, braggs amino (better than soy sauce), a GIGANTIC bottle of raw honey, ghee and a bunch of other non-perishables. They have a ton of stuff "on sale" it's really decent prices for a small natural health food store. I'm happy that it's part of the Mt Vernon neighborhood. read more

I went to support a local store but the prices are sometimes more than corporate stores. Awesome little store tucked away on Preston Street, staffed by a family of mohawk/dredlock-sporting dudes and one friendly shop cat. OK's tight quarters actually make for more enjoyable browsing and shopping as you're bombarded with beautiful, all-natural food and quirky, hand-written signs from all angles. Bulk grains such as baking flours or quinoa; bulk spices in quaint apothecary jars; organic ginger root and limes in hanging baskets; shelves of turbinato and agave nectar; rows of Burt's Bees lip balm and shampoos, as well as Dr. Bronner's lotions and soaps; a vast array of vitamins and supplements. WHYYYYYY didn't yall tell me about this store in the first place??? Ok Natural Foods is naturally slick...in a funkdafied sorta way. I entered this store through the back way, which was coming from UPSTAIRS from the Soup's On store. When I open the door I'm instantly greeted with a pink wall with a tie-dye cloth and a sign pointing down the steps for the Ok food store. I felt like I was going to a house party and as I was going down the steps I felt like I was in someone's house just chillin'. My one mistake maybe was going through the back because I had so much stuff in my hands that I was having a hard time making it to the front to get a hand basket. What joy for me though because the clearance section of tubes of teas for only $4 was back there! While I'm on the topic, a staff member did walk past me 2 different times and saw me struggling but didn't offer to bring me a basket or anything, which kinda sucked on the customer service part. As I made my way towards the front of the house I did locate the hand baskets and grab me one and noticed it had the name Whole Foods on the front LMAO! But this only went to prove the theory I had formulated while shopping correct-the owners probably buy their stock from Whole Foods and sell it for cheaper. But that's quite alright with me and MY wallet honey! Ok Natural Foods is definitely tiny and narrow, with the section I entered from upstairs appearing to have been the kitchen section of the house and the upstairs "bedrooms" occupied by Soup's On, but it works. The crowded, little dusty isles stacked with groceries did admittedly have me checking round for a spider web or random bug out to get me but luckily I didn't encounter one. This place kinda gives me the feel of a bodega and though the prices are higher than one, in comparison to a commercial chain like Whole Foods this store still comes off as a "cor-na sto" price wise. I always get surprised by how much variety of food this little place provide. Nuts, grains, both are of them in bulk but also packaged, dairy, lots of meat and dairy alternative, vitamins, bread, deli, tea. More bulk than whole foods can ever offer. They also have a variety of cbd products and chocolates and candy goods suitable for variety of diets. And people there are really nice and treat you comfortable and simply. I love it way better than Mom's, whole food's and anywhere else that is filled with some pretentious, impatient employees. (Except for the few exceptions that are amazing of course) read more

An out-of-towner vegan from Berkeley is visiting Baltimore for an internship and asked me where to find 'bulk bins' in the city. I knew I had to take her to OK Natural Foods instead of Whole Paycheck; it was exactly what she was after. Upon entering, she happily sighed "ahhh it's got that co-op smell." Yep. Basically. Awesome selection of all sorts of natural foods (and products) at reasonable prices. I'm simply amazed at how jam-packed this place is. I really like to take my time and look at EVERYTHING, but I start to feel like a freak after awhile. Luckily, freaks seem encouraged here (in a good way). Service is super duper friendly, and not only are they ready to help you find things, but they'll also order whatever you need. LOTS of vegan stuff in the cold case: To-go foods like spanikopita, falafel, raw sauerkraut, burritos; bulk tofu; soymilk; fake cheese; fake mayo; produce (apples, bananas, oranges); vegan ice cream snacks (tofutti, rice dream). PLENTY of gluten-free options; nut-thins, flours, oatmeal, cookies. BULK: granola, RAW nuts, dried fruits, rice, quinoa, pasta, barley, lentils, soup mix, ginger chunks, spices IMPRESSIVE: wall of soaps, oils, perfume, shampoo, incense, candles and another huge section of vitamins and supplements. RESPONSIBLE: sustainably caught fish (frozen), farm-raised eggs, local milk/butter SALE: A huge shelf of random sale stuff- you can find a huge variety of half price things here...from coconut water to and teas to granola bars and chips to cat food, bottled water, pasta sauce and natural sodas. Long before Whole Foods and other mega health food stores, I used to go to stores just like OK. The smell alone, brings back great memories of going with my mom and wandering the (always) tiny store. I've never had anything less than great customer service from the group of employees there. Sometimes, there are only one or two at a time, and yes, they can be busy helping others. But, if you wait patiently enough for your turn, they will give you the same great service they give to everyone. The selection here is pretty vast, for the tiny location. Stock full of goodies, including a very extensive bulk items area (actually two). They always have something on sale to snack on. I personally don't think their prices are high, but I am always willing to pay a little extra to support a small business. Oh, and make sure you say hi to shop kitty! read more

I really want to support the local natural food store. And despite my gripes below, I still continue to shop here to an extent. But I don't really feel like they are living up to their end of the bargain for the following reasons: 1) Items here are often much higher priced than other places. I spot checked a number of items and they are sometimes as much as 20-20% more than at other places. I know the big guys can cut them down in price, but 20% premium is just too much. I am willing to pay 5-10% more just because you are a david vs goliath. 2) selection of products is not that great, they basically have a subset of what whole foods has. It does not seem like they go out of their way to support local business or farmers, in fact I see more local products at whole foods. 3) The staff is VERY friendly but typically unenthusiastic. Often times they say they don't have something, but I actually find it later. They are not nearly as knowledgable about supplements and toiletries as the people at whole-foods. I realize that its hard to run a small family owned store and I will continue patronizing them to a limited extent in hopes that they stay in business. But I feel like at some point I have to draw the line and say that if a multinational, evil, corporation (aren't they all?) is doing a better job meeting my needs more so than the local guys, I am not just going to continue to support them just because they are local and small. I have to see that they are trying to run a quality, service oriented business that takes care of my needs as a client. read more

This little basement store, packs a HUGE variety of health and natural food. From Spirulina to name it...you will not need to leave the neighborhood in order to go to another store...In fact they even have a bulk section. The people that work here know their natural foods and remedies. You wont find a mouse in here, as the store has wonderfully adopted a urban handsome kitty named mittens, who is a great little host and is super friendly to newcomers. He can show you were the newspaper is kept, as he sits by it. Oh and they are right next to Soup's on in case you must satisfy an immediate soup craving. read more

The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable about what they sell, and will go out of their way to help you try new things. I find prices to be reasonable, considering the specialty nature of what they sell - I get most of my herbs and supplements here instead of at a drugstore. They have every spice in the world available, heaven to an amateur cook such as I am, and a good selection of baking supplies that might not be easily found in other places (e.g., turbinado sugar, etc.). I stumbled upon this wonderful store while on my way home from work. This store may look small, but they carry pretty much everything. I was really impressed. They have organic, vegan, and natural dry foods and refrigerated foods. The guy working there was very knowledgeable about the business and the products they sold. I also want to say that it's important for us to support these small businesses. Because big businesses like whole foods are wiping out the small neighborhood stores. And it's. Sad. But I also think it's important to mention that the store has very good prices and also clearance items. I am hoping to go back soon so I can chat with the store clerk again! read more

I moved to Mt. Vernon a couple months ago and drive by the store everyday. After reading some reviews on Yelp, I finally stopped by there today. It's impossible to walk in this store and not see something you like or want to try. The prices are very reasonable and there are plenty of things on sale. I grabbed some coconut milk, an avocado and 2 ice cream sandwiches for $5. I'll definitely be back when I have more time to search through all the shelves. read more

OK Natural Foods is great! They carry a large selection of vitamins, herbs and supplements, as well as packaged foods, teas and bulk herbs. I noticed one reviewer commented on them having high prices, but I find exactly the opposite - they have many items that are marked down or on clearance almost always. There are a few things that are a little pricier, but I feel it is balanced out by the low cost items. The staff are cool and they make me happy. This store reminds me of the health food stores and food coops once found on the LES of Manhattan. Cool music playing (here it was reggae), nice owner, and much more product on the inside than you thought possible from the looks of the door width! There is not however the plastic bin with tofu sprouting which is something I am only slightly nostalgic about. Of note, they have a great selection of NOW vitamins and supplements, ginseng, and Sundial wood root tonics for stomach ailments (something i have been hard-pressed to find outside of Brooklyn or a spot in DC). Lucky Baltimorans don't know they have a gem here. Also they had a sale bin and great prices on Lara bars. They also carry the new ALT bar which I am excited to try but could not find anywhere else! read more

This place is a hidden GEM. Small store plenty of natural foods. Herbs you can buy all kinds of herbs and tea at quantities you want. It's self serve. They even have incense and some crystals maybe candles. It's a great place though it's small you're sure to find lots of great stuff at good prices. Sweet little city oasis in an otherwise corporate chain of America. The main difference between this place and most other little local places is that their prices are darn good. Comparable to big brands like Giant, Weis, etc. etc. The selection is surprisingly pretty awesome for how small of a storefront it is. I love this little grocery store! Even though my wife and I have lived in the area for a while we had not been in this store until recently. Our normal grocery store is Moms in Hampden but since we live in Bolton Hill getting there is a hike. OK Natural Foods is a great stop for odds and ends that come up during the week. This part of town has a dearth of good grocery stores so OK Natural Foods is a bright spot. I much prefer to go here over Eddies or Safeway if I can help it. The staff is always very friendly and they make the experience very nice. The only downsides are that it is quite small so the selections are limited and also I don't believe they sell meat (we're not vegetarians). To their credit though, despite the small size, it is surprising how many quality goods they can fit. Their sign says they have been in business for 40 years! I hope they stay around as they provide a great service to the community. I just hope someday they might be able to expand! read more

I absolutely love this place! Lots of different things to choose from, with a lot of things on sale. Bulk organic beans, quinoa, nuts, seeds, and a large array of herbs and teas. Although I wish they offered more organic produce and meats, it's not that big of a store so I'm sure they can only fit so much. Besides all that, they have a lot of essential oils to choose from, along with a small natural beauty section (body washes, hand soaps, lotions, etc). If that's not enough convincing for ya, everytime I stop in (about 3 times a month, as I do the majority of my shopping at MOMS), it's usually the same guy working. I'm not sure of his name but he's a younger guy with glasses and a ponytail. Really nice guy and super helpful! The other staff seems pretty cool too but I haven't had much interaction with them. I literally made a Yelp because I wanted to write a review for this place. I've been to lots of great places from Hawaii to Boston and no place has ever made me want to write a review, so that in of itself is saying something about this place. It's amazing. The staff member that I spoke to was amazing: knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. I wanted face lotion, bread, and protein and he showed me where each thing was and then gave me his recommendations. I ended up buying a lot of things... Lots of things on sale!!! There are really reasonably priced foods! Perfect if you live in Mt. Vernon and don't want to drive to Whole Foods or Trader Joes... And I have a car! Very convenient little place. Don't let the size fool you, I was there for over 30 minutes looking at the variety of food and organic lotions and washes and I still didn't see everything. I just moved here so I'm glad I found a great organic food place (and store in general) that is for the most part affordable with friendly people I can trust. Definitely recommend!!!! read more

Love this store, I shop here at least once per week. Great little hippie oasis, prices are unbeatable, and staff is super friendly. Incredible variety of nuts, teas, grains (particularly gluten-free ones), and spices. Lots of vegan and gluten-free specialty items and a lot of their products are local and organic. Plenty of standard staples too, good selection of fruits, dairy products, pastas, frozen goods. Often they will give away fruit that is on the verge of going bad too. They sometimes put incense sticks in the flowerpots outside this store so that you are in a hazy of sweet smoke and cloying ashiness when you walk by. The decor is woodsy and the customer service categorically pleasant. I do think their lemons are on the expensive side, but their selections are wide-ranging and they have a resident cat named Mr. Mittens who is generally sleeping or staring at customers in a judgmental way. He has walked by me mewling for no reason, but still lets me pat him with eyes closed in tolerant slits. They generally offer good sales on snacks and the products are high quality. There is no pretentiousness that comes from the Whole Foods lot, although I have been in here when the music was so odd and thumping that I felt like I was riding to the Aquarian Festival in a Volkswagon in 1969 and all I was missing was the tie-dye and something funny to dissolve on my tongue. There was an unpleasant incident a few years ago when the guy ringing me up was bopping too enthusiastically to music and punched $1492 in the credit card machine instead or $14.92, which froze my card and put me in a VERY difficult spot because I was traveling the next day. I generally just pay with cash when that guy is at the till. I haven't seen him lately though. My favorites are the earnest looking guy with the moustache because he just looks like happy should look, and the dread-locked gentleman who has a kind voice and pleasant demeanor no matter when I see him. Once I spied him and a lady friend on a date in the area and she looked like "The African Queen"--and I use the quotation marks for emphasis because she really did look like a queen: tall, regal, and not interested in peasantry or pleasantries, thank you and I bid you good night. read more
