Short story: DON'T GO HERE. I should have just gone to the Apple Store in the Maine mall. I ended up there anyway and they were great. For the full story read on. I took my Mac Book pro here for diagnostic and hopefully repair. My keyboard and track pad had stopped working. The machine itself would work with either blue tooth or USB mouse/keyboards attached, but I wanted to see the cost of repairing the laptop keyboard/track pad. First off, it took them 3 days to give me a diagnostic and estimate. I had to call myself to find the status. They told me it was the top case and it would cost $380. I decided this would be worth it to me and agreed to proceed. They called 2 days later and said it wasn't the top case after all it was the logic board and that would cost a bit more $440. All the people I spoke with at this company were not good with people. They weren't friendly, or good at explaining what they there were doing. It was almost like they explained too much technical and not enough of what a client needed to know. The repair tech on the phone went on and on about parts and technical terms etc.. I don't repair computers. I had to repeatedly ask: How much will this cost and when can you get it done? He told me 1-2 more days and I decided for $60 more I'd move forward with the repair. I get a call. Now it's both the case and the logic board need to be replaced and the repair would be over $800.00. They have had my computer a week at this point. I said no to this repair, as I may as well buy a new laptop at that point. They said I would need to pay a 20% restock fee. I said I didn't feel I should have to pay a restock fee when they couldn't properly estimate or diagnose my problem. I never would have agreed to an $800 plus repair. I would pay their $75 dollar diagnostic fee. I asked them to put my laptop back together and return it as I gave it to them. When I went to pick it up, there was no conversation, no apology or explanation, nothing. I barely got eye contact. I tested that my machine was working. Everything seemed in order. When I went to use it the next day (with Bluetooth keyboard/mouse) the battery ran out. When I plugged the charger in, it wouldn't register the charger. I couldn't charge the laptop. I took my Mac book to the Apple Store in the Maine Mall. They diagnosed it free of charge!!! This is what they found. There is a simple plug in cable in the case that enables the charger to work. This cable was disconnected. They plugged it back in and it worked fine, and they didn't even charge me. So Unlimited Technology formerly Capitol Computers either directly sabotaged my laptop so it would appear to be in working order at their office but break later; or they are simply incompetent. Either way this is completely unacceptable service. The Apple Store diagnosed the keyboard issue free of charge. I can't remember exactly the full diagnosis, but they said it would be a little over $500 to repair. I decided to just use it with Bluetooth accessories until I upgrade. I should have just gone to Apple, as I have always had the great customer service at the Maine Mall store. I was simply hoping to save some time as Unlimited Technology formerly Capitol Computers was closer to me and I try to support small business. Came in to set up a time to get my iPhone battery replaced but the woman there was new so she had me leave a note with my issue and contact info and said I would get a phone call back. That was a week ago and I never heard anything. So they lost my business to Best Buy, who fit me in within 24 hours. ‍ read more

I could not be more happy with the service at Capitol Computers. My 2011 13'' MacBookPro with Solid State Hard Drive gave in September of last year. I tried the SMU (or whatever that is) reset that had brought it back to life once before, brought it in to Apple, and was told it was a Logic Board issue. Apple no longer services or keeps parts for machines over 7 years (obsolescence at its best *pukes*) and I was heartbroken. At first I was thrown off at having to pay for diagnosis, but also after being told that replacement of the Logic Board would be as much as $600 I waited a few more months. That brings us to March. After researching logic board repair facilities online and seeing that logic boards can indeed be repaired rather than replaced, I decided it was worth it to bring it in and see what can be done. Scott Baker intook my machine and was super patient with me explaining the process and timeline. He promptly emailed me with the diagnosis and possible paths of repair. It turned out that the problem could be fixed with a $50 part and a half hour of labor ($45 ish)! Not only that, he thought it may take 5-7 days to get the part but it came in the next day and I got an email that afternoon that my lap top was ready for pick-up. All of my data and files were in tact. The computer is still not the fastest beast on the block, but it runs! I'm so happy and I will definitely be taking all my technology needs to Capitol Computer. I'm glad they were able to rescue my apple from the landfill and I hope others will consider repair over replacement. read more

I have a brand new MacBook Pro. I spent hours on the phone with Apple attempting to resolve a password security issue. In desperation, I called Scott at Unlimited Technology. He knew exactly how to fix this problem within minutes of my describing what was going on. He spent a lot of time with me, without any financial compensation whatsoever. I was so impressed with his level of expertise and his resolve to find a solution for me. Apple finally told me to take it in person to an Apple Store 100 miles away. BestBuy where i purchased the MacBook, said the Geek Squad couldn't help me. I have never written a review on Yelp but after my positive experience with Scott, who was patient, knowledgeable, and so generous with his time, I decided one was warranted. This is my first review on yelp, ever. I currently have a mild head cold and maybe that's why I can't stop thinking about the weird interaction I had only hours ago at Capitol Computers. Normally I think I'd laugh it all off and give them the benefit of the doubt...but, here we go. My computer needed a new battery at the beginning of September so I brought it in thinking I could avoid spending so much time and money at apple. So it's quick, I get it back in two days, I'm pumped, about to get married. Suddenly it won't work; won't turn on, turns off randomly, okay. We take it back in and they say, "We ran it all day and it never turned off, we let the battery drain and plugged it in and it turned on again, etc" We take it home, wont't turn on. And then doesn't turn on accept for an hour during the wedding- after immense amounts of pleading with the computer gods. Long story short because I know this is a long novella already, we brought it in again and didn't hear anything for two weeks. They never called, I made a call to see if there was any progress. I go in today to pick it up- the same nice lady is at the desk, she's super pleasant and is providing good customer service. She brings out the guy who's been working on the computer to talk to me- who, I forgot to mention accidentally deleted my adobe photoshop- he neither references this nor does he actually say anything after I look at him and say,"hi". Expecting some general breakdown of what he's done. Or any acknowledgment of deleting things off my computer. Maybe he was having a hard day, I get that, maybe whatever....but the only things he did say to me were things I know my tech. savvy husband would like to say to people who have no grasp of the power button or how long to press it. Nothing aggressive but every indication of that not so subtle passive aggression...If it were that simple why would I waist my time leaving my device for two weeks? Or keep driving an hour out of my way to drop off and pick it up. So, front desk lady- thank you! Behind the scenes moody dude- thank you for the work you did and I hope you're life isn't as depressing as you made it seem in our brief and uncomfortable interaction. I hope others have better experiences here. First world problems, I know...but, I was really being nice and showed a lot of patience and that final interaction just put me over the edge.
