Unrefined bakery is a food sensitivities dream come true! I started eating paleo back in 2013 and since then my diet has evolved to accommodate my body's specific food sensitivities. I am sensitive to eggs, dairy, soy, gluten, and a whole host of other things. What this means is it's pretty much impossible for me to find treats I can actually eat that won't mess up my hormones, immune system, or gut. Not to mention ones that actually taste good. They were good with communicating with me for my custom cake. However, my vegan birthday cake was not good. The cake was very dry and grainy. The detailed piping was not the color that I asked for. I stopped in here to grab a few cupcakes to sample. We are wanting to have a cake made and aren't sure which flavor to go with. I picked a strawberry, lemon, vanilla and a chocolate something. The strawberry was pretty bland. The vanilla was good. The chocolate (whatever it's fancy name was) wasn't very good. The lemon however was amazing! I'm not a big fan of lemon flavor but this was fantastic! The cupcakes weren't dry which was a surprise! They had a noise flavor and were sweet without being overly sweet. I ended up ordering a cake here for a gender reveal party. I asked that the entire inside of the cake be made blue. i specifically picked a vanilla cake so the blue would show up well in the cake. The day I picked up the cake it looked beautiful. Exactly as planned. However when the cake was cut into it was not as planned. There was just a thin layer of icing that was colored blue instead of the actual cake. We were a bit upset by this. The cake cost us $90. Overall a good flavor and the out side was done well. But I did not appreciate them not following the directions as requested. Not to mention the icing on the inside was done very sloppy. The staff here was ok. They could stand to be a little nicer. Just gonna mention for the 500th time that I'm on a keto diet. Also I kinda regret complaining about how annoying my vegan friends can be because now I too am the queen of questions when I eat out. Honestly it tasted like I was cheating, especially the frosting. Definitely the best 4 bucks I had spent in a while. I got an iced coffee with Stevia to wash it down (their ice cubes are made of coffee too so it lasts longer, genius!). They also have keto muffins, bread, and pie. Yeah, I said pie. I'm not gonna lie, it's expensive but worth it. The keto bread lasts a year in the freezer (not in mine tho, cuz I eat it). You can also special order anything - vegan, gluten free, paleo, whatever. I picked up some nice cupcakes here the other day for a friends birthday. She has a Gluten sensitivity. Everyone enjoyed the assortment so much. If I was a person with an allergy or food sensitivities I would be so happy in finding this. There could be more flavor packed in to the batter of some of them. They feel like mild vanilla with a flavor in the icing. Still nice though. There is room for improvement in the Frisco location. Specifically in the staff. Most stood behind the counter not smiling no welcome in. Super easy fix with a little training. The staff member that helped me was very blunt and non personable. When asking the prices of cupcakes She just gave me a range of everything under the counter. Kinda hilarious to me. Baked goods with no prices is a bit frustrating to me. Not even a paper menu with pricing. This is an easy fix even if your prices fluctuate due to market costs. They have a good product! Kids helping out just need some guidance. Great bakery for GF/DF/nut free, vegan etc. Lots of variety and options to choose from. We loved the chocolate and vanilla cake and chocolate chip cookies but we were blown away by the chocolate cupcakes! The icing was creamy and the cake was delicious! It wasn't flaky or dry. We served the cake and cupcakes at dinner and guests were amazed at the flavor and texture. I went with my friend and got a regular cupcake. $4. Not bad and the perfect cake. I went back a week later to pick up a keto pie for my dad's birthday. There are two options - pumpkin and dark silk. He doesn't like pumpkin so I ran in to get the chocolate. $40. Forty. For a regular sized chocolate pie. I got it because, you know, birthday promises. But I wish I didn't. That's so pricey for a pie I was expecting to pay max $25 bucks for. We ate pie last night. So sweet. Like, you can only do a few bites and then you can't do more sweet. Unrefined bakery donated a cake for a Make A Wish Reveal party where someone else and I revealed to the family they were going to Disney. I asked for any kind of cake, any kind of flavor and got a round cake (perfect for about 10-15 people). The cake was half chocolate and half vanilla (each bite had both flavors- I loved that they did this). The staff was extremely friendly when I went to pick up the cake and the cake tasted great! The family loved it and didn't know it was gluten-free & all that good stuff. I will say I loved their frosting and their vanilla cake. I had no idea Unrefined was a totally gluten-free bakery. Coworkers (6 of us) took me for my birthday so we could all get cupcakes. The guy at the counter was nice and patient and went through explaining the cupcakes they had....what was regular versus vegan and what was the COW (cupcake of the week). I got a vegan strawberry vanilla which was vanilla cake with strawberry frosting. I really liked the frosting. The cake was a bit lacking for me. It was very dense which wasn't a surprise but also it just wasn't sweet. Reminded me almost of a moist, dense cornbread muffin. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. Ugh, I can't believe I haven't been to Unrefined before!! I'm going to the Fort Worth location next, ASAP. Everything is gluten-free so I was able to browse freely. Such a nice food-shopping vacation for me. And there are samples, people. Try everything! I tried both the pumpkin pie and the pecan pie... both were seriously delicious, crust flavor and texture included. The pecan was especially glorious. We had more errands to run so we couldn't buy our pie just then (it'd have to sit in the car for many hours), so we promised to return on our way back home. Unfortunately I broke that promise because it got so late and traffick-y. I'm sorry!!! I'm coming for you, Fort Worth location. The employees/bakers were friendly and I felt like they genuinely enjoy their workspace. I loved learning about their award-winning pies and how much they know about nutrition and different dietary needs. They seem to be incredibly accommodating! For instance, they have regular gluten free pumpkin pie, vegan pumpkin pie, paleo pumpkin pie, and keto pumpkin pie. 4 separate kinds for 4 separate needs. That's so rad! I actually started with Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery based on a local resident's recommendation but when I called and asked for gluten-free, the owner, Maria informed me they did not offer that and suggested I reach out to Unrefined Bakery. First, I thought it was incredibly generous of Maria to refer me on to another vendor so kudos to her for that! I am very thankful she did. As MOB, I wanted to be sure our daughter would be able to eat her wedding cake and so did Maria of Smallcakes!!! In fact, Maria said "we don't want the bride sick on her wedding day" so her generous referral is much appreciated!!! Unrefined was very patient with all my questions and accommodating with my requests. I worked with Anna, the designer and she was not only talented but easy to work with and wanted to be sure she was meeting my expectations by sending drawings and then pictures during the prepping stages!! The bottom layer was carrot cake and no one at the wedding could tell it was gluten-free - it was delicious and moist! The top layer was chocolate and while still good it was more obvious that it was not a "regular" cake based on a texture difference. The cake made a beautiful presentation and the bride and groom were very pleased with it as was I. Anna was a pleasure to work with and I would absolutely recommend them! WORST experience I have ever had with a bakery. Not only was there little to no communication between Martha (the cake designer I worked with) and myself but my cake truly came out like she did not try at all. Typically in my experience bakeries just require a card on file and charge you when you arrive for pick up but this bakery required my full payment up over the phone which I'm sure is why there was such an apparent lack of effort. For reference, I've attached photos. Left is what I wanted, right is what they gave to me. I wanted my cake to have the number "23" written small. I went here on a whim to try their vegan and keto cupcakes. Please note that I am not vegan nor do I do keto; I just like everything which includes vegan and keto friendly food. I had the keto chocolate cupcake and the vegan vanilla cupcake with strawberry icing. These were surprisingly really good and super moist! I could tell they are different from regular cupcakes, which in this case is a good thing! It just tasted healthier but still very tasty at the same time, and I didn't get the sluggish feeling after eating them. The keto cupcake is a little small, but the regular vegan cupcakes are huge! I usually eat half in one sitting and eat the other half in another sitting. This shop also serve snack mix, cakes, tarts, cookies, bread, and more! They also provide samples if you wanted to try before you buy. Also, the staff here are super friendly and helpful. Overall, this place is such a delicious bakery for vegan/keto treats. I had the chance to visit with two of the loveliest people behind the counter and wish every establishment had the same level of service! Product: Full disclaimer...I'm not someone with a food allergy, so my comparison is probably only good for those without them too. The vanilla-strawberry cupcake had a good texture for being gluten free, but left me hanging on flavor. I really felt a similar feeling about the icing called "buttercream" that does not actually contain any butter nor cream as ingredients. Obviously I know neither can be used when trying to make a product dairy-free, but I really feel like another word should be used to describe the oil-based whip. SOOOOO GOOOOOOOD! I just ate a vanilla strawberry dairy free cupcake and wow! It's fantastic! I just saw this in passing, I can't believe i didn't know about it before. I'm 100% dairy free and it's been so long since I could have a dessert outside of my house. THey have tons of food items and desserts, fresh made, and they have items in a freezer to take home as well. First time ever coming! Really excited and was a bit amp'd for my birthday! Its in a pretty large and quite busy parking lot/shopping center. The inside is clean and modern. Freezers on the wall for you to grab your items like (pie which i got) that are kept frozen for longer storage. They have a bakery case of cookies and cupcakes. I got a whole frozen "dark silk pie" my husband got 4 cookies. he asked for 2 to be all "green" as they had a display of st patty's style cookies. he meant for the 2 to be the ones with ALL GREEN tops of icing but i guess the counter girl assumed he just wanted 2 from the "green st pattys" collection. he also got 2 sugar cookies. our total was $40! its specialy products but i live on a special diet now with allergies and what not and this was a VERY steep price. Least everything tastes delicious!! The service was less than desired. the dark haired girl and a blonde were behind counter. the blonde smiled and then kept leaning over middle island in back checking her phone. scrolling throw something obviously important as it took all her time. The dark haired girl was polite. or that is not rude. nothing about the interaction was special or stood out. honestly i felt like i was out of place. almost like our presence was undesired. nothing rude was said it was more a vibe, the unenthusiastic way she spoke (the little she did say) and the dead stare. im a stickler for service so 3 stars for food quality. but the service was not worth driving 3 cities for. Update: so i dropped another star. we ate the iced "st pattys" cookies and they were extremely dry. like sweet crackers more than cookies. the icing was flavorless and rock hard. my son actually asked me "can you eat this?" the pie is amazing and the plain sugar cookies were good. but with terrible service and two items out of 5 being awful (and they cost more than plain cookies) its just not acceptable. read more

The cake was so bitter and crumbled and filling was way too sweet like chewing pure sugar. My husband and I were Very disappointed and my son didn't even finish his piece :( It was def not worth paying $250 for this cake. (Miniature minions are not included). And she didn't make number 3 with fondant just wrote it with icing.
