I first came across Jackie and Up and Out when I got my hair done as a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding. She and her team did a great job - not only did my friend, the bride, look incredible but all of the bridesmaids also looked beautiful and unique! Fortunately I was able to book Jackie for my own wedding several months later. From the minute I walked into the salon for my trial, the whole experience was fantastic. She really listened and understood what I wanted for my bridal look, and on the day, absolutely delivered. I loved my hair, it was perfect! And it survived a very windy first look photo shoot! Jackie and her team were delightful to hang out with while at the same time being totally professional and providing an outstanding service. All of my bridesmaids looked fantastic and got exactly what they wanted in their look, as did my mother in law and importantly, my own Mom. She even put my nervous dad at ease by showing him how to deal with my veil and blusher (not easy!) I joined Yelp today to write a review about how disappointed I was after getting my makeup done for a wedding this past weekend. I asked for a simple, clean look -- with added lashes. Since they do not do your makeup in front of a mirror, I trusted that the artist listened to my request. When she was done, which was 1.5 hours later, I was shocked to see that my eyebrows were darkened and really thick (never asked for that and still baffled abt why she took it upon herself to do that and keep in mind that I and blonde).. and the "simple" makeup I requested was thick and caked on. i specifically asked for only a little face makeup and for the "natural" look. Also - I looked paler than I had when I entered. I rushed home and took everything off unfortunately. The eyelashes came off at the edges of my eyes so unfortunately I had to take those off too. I have never been more disappointed with makeup and also never looked scarier. It's a shame that I wasted so much money on something that was taken off. I just could not go to the wedding with that makeup on my face. I will not be going back. The blowout was decent though (thank god). Erica did a great job with my hair. read more

I went to up and out before a baby shower. When I showed up they made me wait didn't offer me coffee or tea like they did with the other customers and then the woman who finally did my hair rushed leaving it looking terrible. When she saw her next customer come in she just left me without saying anything and just started her hair. I looked confused and and was about to cry because I was so disappointed in my hair when I live a block away from this place. Luckily a nice hair dresser named Clarissa saw me and said she would fix my hair. She was attentive and nice and sweet and I tried to tip her but unfortunately my tip went to the First Lady. Although Clarissa totally turned around my experience, I would recommend just going into the city for dry bar or request Clarissa if your going to go there at all. read more

I absolutely love up and out. My boyfriend lives down the street and I am tempted to go get a blow out every time I am there because it is simply the best! The girls that work there are super friendly and accommodating. I always feel like I'm just chatting with my girl friends when I am there because I am ! All the girls are awesome. Jessica is not only great at hair but is an amazing makeup artist who I wouldn't be surprised if she has a Kardashian clientele one day soon because she is that talented. Clarissa and Dina are excellent stylist. I've done braids and blow outs with both of them and I'm always obsessed. This place kills it and on the weekend, there is never an empty seat so make sure you book ahead. The girls at up and out kill the hair game! best hair place in hoboken!! i have gotten literally everything done here. recently got the Hollywood Blowout -- you need to get it!! i got a million compliments on it and people were asking for the name of the place. check out the pictures on insta if you want to see examples of the Hollywood - it looks justtt like the pictures and is so much better than other salons. also - got a cut and balayage there a few weeks ago. again, so many compliments! i used to go to another salon in hoboken but i hated that the other salon charged me so much more because of my thick hair. up and out didnt tack on additional fees for my thick hair, and they took their time to make it perfect - then finished off with a blowout for no additional fee! will only ever go back here for balayage! read more

So I decided to get my hair done at the last second today for my birthday/anniversary dinner with the boyfriend. Even though it was last second I was able to book an appointment only 4 hours before. Costumer service = A+! As soon as I walked in I was greeted and they offered me a drink and a chair. I hardly had to wait. I saw Clarissa, she curled my hair but made it look amazing. Usually when I go to salons to get my hair done they give me really tight curlycue curls and I end up looking like Shirley Temple. My curls were loose and beachy looking. I'm already getting tons of compliments and I haven't even gotten to where I'm going yet. The boyfriend is sure to be impressed! Thanks Up and Out, you'll definitely see me again! I love up and out salon ! Christian gives the best blowouts. He gives a wonderful massaging shampoo followed by a perfect blowout every time. It is my guilty little pleasure. I have very curly thick coarse hair and he makes me love my hair for the first time every in my life. You can't help but leave there feeling great as he makes you feel special. Centrally located in Hoboken, Up & Out is convenient for me both from home and work. It feels like Cheers when I walk in; they remembered me after only one visit (there have been many since!) I love that the talented staff is skilled in brushwork. They can achieve loose, bouncy curls and volume without the use of a curling iron, which can be even more damaging to my hair. In 45 minutes, I'm in and out looking great and feeling better! read more

The original Up and Out is great for just that. A great blowout, that I've been able to make last for 4-5 days (with some dry shampoo for my scalp!). They know just what they are doing and get you in and out. Now that there is an uptown location which is closer to me, I go there more often, but the downtown is still great for needing a blowout early in the morning or if they are booked uptown. read more

I have been here for hair and makeup appointments about a dozen times now. The staff is friendly and they create a relaxing atmosphere (the complimentary champagne certainly helps). I am always very happy with my blow outs, up dos, and make up (Jackie is fantastic). I relied on them a lot after having shoulder surgery when I could not wash/dry my own hair. I've been to Up & Out a few times and have always been happy with the results. The chairs at the washing station are amazing! So comfortable and you get a quick massage! I went to get a blow out before work recently and it was such a great idea! My hair looked perfectly blown out, almost wavy, wo any frizz at all for 4 days! The salon is so comfortable and calm too. I have gotten my hair blown out a few times at Up and Out. Twice for a wedding and I got so many compliments. Last time it was for a bridal shower and it looked great :) the blowout lasted some 3 days and looked just as good on day 3! I would recommend it to anyone in Hoboken. read more
