Our group had a surprise engagement party for our friends here and we rented the corner space through coordination by Jillian from the Robey team. They were super flexible with our budget and allowed us to pick from a number of stationed appetizers and have a bar tab. Once we reached our minimum for the tab, they switched It to a cash bar! Up Room has one of the best views of Chicago. It's located north of the loop so you get a great view of the whole skyline. The inside is very cozy and small. There are only 4 seats at the bar, so it's pretty intimate. There are also some other seats and couches surrounded by floor to ceiling windows. The outside goes about 270 degrees around the building so you can see the city from different angles. In the winter there are heaters that I have to say are pretty effective. There is also a small grotto with open seating. The drinks have overly fancy names, but the bartenders do a great job in mixing them. This is the kind of bar where you can enjoy a nice conversation in a cozy atmosphere with a great view with a small group. Come with your favorite friends or on a date. I've been here a couple of times and have had no issues after getting through the door, however... We just wanted to check out the rooftop bar at the up room and realized that it stopped allowing new visitors at 12 AM on Fridays, so we rushed over to spend some time there at 11:55 before they closed. When taking the elevator to the top, we were rudely greeted by a hostess telling us to go back downstairs. We asked why and she told us last call was at midnight. We responded saying "it is 11:55" but still she persisted and ushered us out of the bar. This was incredibly disappointing and upsetting to us, as we were just visiting and now don't get to see the place. I've never had this experience but the hostess was so rude I had to leave a review. I've been wanting to visit Up Room for awhile now and was so glad I did this past weekend. It's a beautiful bar on the 13th floor of Hotel Robey. It was relatively warm (mid 40s) for December and it had been raining, so it was pretty misty. The skyline was barely visible from the top floor but lucky for us, I'll say the foggy weather made for a shorter wait-time. You'll enter on the 1st floor, then take the stairs to the 2nd floor where you'll put your name down with the hostess. If it's really crowded, you have the opportunity to grab drinks at the bar named "The Lounge" right on the 2nd floor. It's intimate and cozy. We sat down just for a few minutes at The Lounge before my phone buzzed with a text message that our table was ready, and we headed to meet the hostess. We were guided to a tiny elevator that at most, maybe fit 6 people standing shoulder-to-shoulder, and whisked to the 13th floor to Up Room. I loved this vintage elevator, with sea green walls, gold-plated frames, and button knobs to press. It was about the size of a large food pantry and it was awesome. It's a great date spot, a place to bring visitors, or an excuse to do something that feels a little glitzy. The staff was were down to earth and friendly - I thought the service was great. At Up Room, you'll be directed to your seats and offered a coat check. You will also be given kettle corn to munch on while deciding on what to order. I ended up choosing a house favorite cocktail with pisco (I forgot the name). I also got to try a sip of the "Carrot Cake on the Rocks." Their menu is divided into "Up" drinks (martini-style, sweet & tart) and "Down" drinks (Old Fashioned-type drinks, 'relieved or accentuated by the garnish). The drink names are pretty punny and there is even a section of drinks themed after the great Chicago Fire. They also serve beer, wine, and whiskey. We grabbed our drinks to look outside and even with the mist hiding the skyline, the views are spectacular. On the roof, you get to see the city from 3 different directions, it's almost a 360 view. There's a little "castle" enclave which overlooks 6 corners (where North Ave, Milwaukee, and Damen intersect). This dome with heaters, blankets, seats, and tables for your drinks. Up Room is a reminder of the beauty, glam, and elegance of Chicago. What a treat to spend a few hours here! read more

Up Room is exactly what Wicker Park needed! It's located on the 13th floor rooftop of The Robey Hotel but stop off on the second floor to check in first. When we went, the wait was just about 20 minutes (at 8pm on a Saturday night) so we added our name to the list. You can then wait in the low key second floor indoor lounge which is cool or head to the 6th floor Cabana Club which has both indoor & outdoor seating. When they text, you can't transfer drinks so need to finish up what you had & get back to check-in within 10 minutes for your admission upstairs. There are no assigned seats and you just grab what you like upstairs. There is both indoor & outdoor seating but we fell in love with the semi-outdoor castle seats. If you walk outside onto the rooftop, you'll find a small castle looking area in the corner with just about 10 seats inside. We camped here the entire night getting that fresh outdoor breeze but being sheltered from the drizzle happening. It was so rustic and fun looking, we truly did become enamored with the space. We stuck with beers throughout the night and only tried one of their cocktails which did not impress us. The Green Mill ($15) which is a lovely name homage to a Chicago staple falls way flat. It had Aylesbury Duck Vodka, Oaky Chardonnay, Homemade Pistachio Orgeat, Magnolia Vermouth and Freeze Dried Cucumber spread throughout the top. We all tried it and were like "Ugh!"...we saw another near us order the same & do the same with her face. Ha! A swing and a miss with that concoction. One cocktail aside, my main gripes are what I'm sure are the same issues with rooftops downtown. Service is painfully slow (though when we went right up to the small bar it was super fast and incredibly friendly each time) and things are overpriced. A Sofie was $10 and a Pipeworks beer was $8, c'mon that's a no brainier! I'l absolutely be back for fitting occasions which could mean a date night, celebration night, showing out of towners a good time...there are really endless opportunities! I won't be going for their cocktails again though and will stick to the beers & wines. read more

The Up Room is a must WHENEVER I am in the neighborhood! Highest point in Wicker and the 360 views are to die for. Try to make a reservation because there are around 11 tables available at a time. My pals and I popped up to the roof for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. The host/manager Lane is a gem!!! She let us know the wait without a reservation would be 20 mins max. We waited around 6 mins for the table to open up. Booyah! Lane is so cool and nice. She shares a bday with our pal and bought him (and us) belated birthday shots thank you Keela was our server and recommended the P&Go as a refreshing drink. This place is a mid century mod dream! Sitting atop the hotel it has ana amazing view of downtown. It's so cool to watch the hustle and bustle below in this quaint little bar. The drinks we had were delicious and strong. The dark lighting and quaint space create the perfect chill vibe. Although, I live in California now, I have still made it there twice in the last two months. Since it is on the smaller side, especially during the colder months with the loss of the use of the patio, there may be a wait. Be patient and kind. :) The place is a perfect spot for a date night. While the drinks are amazing and the views are great, I do not like where the menu went. I have been here multiple times. The last time I was here I got the Oaxacan on Broken Glass. This drink was good, but it did not meet my expectations. Granted spicy drinks are not my favorite and this was nothing different. The Surprisingly Good cocktail, or whatever it is called was, Malort based. I thought this was a very good take on the hometown liquor and would definitely be a good way to introduce people to it. We stopped here after getting dinner. Went up to the top floor roof, the UpRoom which is just the most beautiful view of the city at night. It was just like a postcard! The pictures I took on my cell phone absolutely did not do it justice. It was such a beautiful experience. Would probably be a beautiful and romantic evening if you're on a date. We just each got a drink and enjoyed the atmosphere. It wasn't super busy, but had a nice crowd. We met the manager, Lane, who was super friendly and super nice. We enjoyed our conversation with her. Her staff loves her too! The drink was pretty good, beautifully presented, though I've had better, but the conversation and atmosphere made up for that. Friends were in town so we took them here for a quick drink. It was tough finding a nice touristy rooftop spot that was open on Monday, but this place didn't disappoint. It's part of The Robey Hotel and since it's located in Wicker Park, we got a great view of the skyline. We ordered the Double Black Diamond, Georgia Peach, and Let's Not Mints Words. All of them were good, but nothing spectacular in terms of craft cocktails. And for $16-18, you're def paying for the ambiance than the drink. I can't speak for some of the comments about a specific rude hostess; we were served by two lovely ladies (who weren't blonde) and the atmosphere was great. Walking into Up & Up is like walking onto the set of Mad Men. It's a dimly lit room with plenty of couches, chairs, and wood paneling. The floor to ceiling windows are a nice touch and makes the inside feel upscale while the outdoor space is more casual with only a few chairs and some tables to rest your drink on. The view is incredible! It's honestly one of my favorite rooftops in Chicago since you can see the entire skyline. They have heating lamps but the weather has been incredible every time I've gone so I don't know how pleasant it will be when its 40°F out but I'll keep you posted. The bartenders know what they're doing, the drinks are creative and well-balanced. I've ordered off of their regular menu (follow suit is my favorite) and also ordered the dealer's choice. For my dealer's choice, I asked for something "minty" and was pleasantly surprised with what they came up with. The service is great, you can find a server when you need one but they don't hover. Just when I thought only the best rooftops were all downtown Chicago, I stumbled across this hidden gem right in the Wicker Park neighborhood!!. It is super cute and dainty & gives you everything you would find in a rooftop downtown except the congestion & headache of parking. It's small rooftop pool located on the 6th fl.(Cabana Club) is what sets it apart from other rooftops in the city. Its also unique because it houses 2 separate rooftops on 2 separate floors! You can enjoy cocktails on the 13th floor with a great view as well. The only con is the 6th floor view sits right over the train tracks so when a train briefly passes through, it is startling & loud. We came here on a Friday and surprisingly the wait was only about 20 minutes! We decided to head to the bar downstairs while we waited for a text message that our table was ready. The hostess walked us out to the rooftop and I thought for a second we would have a table, but it was more of just standing around. Up & Up is kind of how you can describe our evening at The Robey. We started out in the cafe for dinner, popped up to the Cabana Club and capped the night off here for a drink. We decided to come here on a cooler weeknight, so none of the spots we hit at the hotel were terribly crowded. Since it was a school night, we had only intended to pop up and look around. However, since the elevator must be unlocked for you, we decided to stay and have a quick nightcap. We were seated inside, all of the outside seats had been taken. In terms of view, Cabana club has this beat in many ways. With the glass railings, it was easier to see the skyline while seated at Cabana Club than at Up & Up. Compared to the bright, airiness of the Cabana Club, Up & Up was dark and almost romantic in a retro den-like way. I don't recall what I ordered, but I enjoyed it. Manfriend went with a custom cocktail. Our server was great, they discussed the flavor profiles he enjoys, he made some suggestions on which preferences to focus on and the bartender worked his magic. There's a cool little room accessible from the patio. It's an interesting little cave-like room in the alcove of the roof. We toured it before we left. Overall, I'd come back, but I wouldn't wait in line to do it.9 read more

One of my new favorite date night spots! As a Bucktown resident, I had been dying to go to the Robey/Up & Up for a while (the building itself is just too cool looking), and it did not disappoint. The view is exceptional. It's like Chicago taking a selfie with a selfie stick - not too close that it's awkward, but not too far away. It's breathtaking and a must-see. In the evening, they don't let it get too crowded. Everyone has a seat, and everyone can enjoy the view. (I specify the evening hours, because I'm not sure if they change that for late night and let anyone and everyone up.) You might have to wait a little bit, but the second floor bar in the Robey is definitely not a bad place to have a drink while you wait. The only reason why I'm not saying 5-star is because service was a little slow, and the drinks are pricey (~$15 a drink). read more

Swanky little place atop a hotel in Wicker Park. You can see nearly all the bordering states from this little roof top in Chicago's Wicker Park. There is a hostess on the second floor that manages when people can go up to the bar area. We had a very short wait. We were asked if standing room only was ok with us and we said yes. Turns out we didn't need a lounge area to drink since we spent most of our time out on the deck. The view are amazing from up there. A must go to when in Chicago. I was amazed at how flat that state is. You can see for miles and miles with no obstructions except the city. No wonder they don't have issues with driving around in the snow. There are two restrooms for the whole bar upstairs and there was not wait. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. A must see if you are in town for sure! read more

My party of 5 was easily able to find our own space inside to make ourselves at home. Our server/bartender was fantastic and worked with our group on finding a flavor profile that catered to each of us. There is a patio but the wind kept us from lingering too long outside. If you step outside, you can head to the corner of the patio for a towering little alcove that is protected from the wind and equipped with a space warmer. Stopped in on a whim the evening after Christmas to have a couple of nightcaps. We were greeted by the host when we got off of the elevator and we asked if there were 2 seats available. He said they were at capacity & to give him a few minutes. We waited at the host stand while he found 2 chairs & a small entryway table and created an impromptu place for us to sit! We were basically in the middle of the room and had amazing views in every direction. A server appeared within minutes to offer us a drink list. The pinot noir that I ordered was not available so I decided on a white blend instead. My husband ordered a classic negroni. Both were very good and reasonably priced given the views and central location in the neighborhood. The selection of whiskeys, especially Japanese, was quite impressive. Even though the room was full until we left at last call, it was never loud or difficult to carry on a conversation. Everyone from the host, to the servers and bartenders were incredibly kind and professional. It's already a beautiful spot to stop in for a drink, it will only get busier as the weather warms & they can add seating outside. So lucky to have this beautiful cocktail den in the neighborhood. Just a small part of what appears to be a very well thought out and executed renovation of this historic building.
