As the other reviews noted, it is a quirky little place in the middle of mostly nowhere except for recreational visitors. And, yet, it was delightful. Upon arrival I had to remind myself that I was in Marshall Indiana and not in Key West Florida. It has such a cute little tiki vibe. You go inside to order drinks and food then pick a seat outdoors. Staff members were super friendly and welcoming. All of our food came out pipin' hot and fresh! Everything was delicious! The toppings on the Caribbean Chicken Pizza are a perfectly unique combination. The breadsticks were some of the best breadsticks I've had in some time. Came here on a Sunday early afternoon after spending the morning on the river. The Indiana Destination Development Corporation had written a very complimentary article on the restaurant earlier in the week, stating it was right next to the Sugar Valley Canoe & Kayak rental place. I thought it would be a great opportunity to try them out! While their pizzas looked great, I wasn't in the mood for pizza, so I ordered the veggie quesadilla and my partner got the buffalo chicken sub. We also tried to order a few of their alcoholic drinks with the house-made rum, but it was 11:55 AM and therefore too early to order alcohol on a Sunday. Whoops, no problem. I stated that come back at noon, as I really wanted to try something with their house-made spirit in it. I came back at noon (our food was still being cooked) and asked if I could order alcohol. The cashier, after checking her watch to confirm it was 12pm, went to go ask her boss if she could take my alcohol order. The boss walks up to me and says, "you're just going to have to wait." Well, okay. I was fine with waiting, and a simple "one moment please" would have sufficed, but now I feel like I'm burdening an establishment that I want to patronize, simply for asking them to take my order. After a few minutes the boss hurriedly takes my order and I sat back down. We got our food, I asked the waitress if we could move outside and wait for our drink out there. There are numbers that people take to show the waitresses where to bring the orders; however, she told us we had to stay inside to wait for the drink. Okay, fine. We got our drinks and moved outside to enjoy the nice day. Plenty of other customers were having their food brought out to them by the servers in the outdoor area. The decor was cute and kitschy. The food was, as my partner put it, very mid. Nothing wrong with my quesadilla per say, but it wasn't anything I couldn't have easily made myself. My partner said their buffalo chicken sandwich was rather small and was clearly just a pre-frozen buffalo chicken nugget patty. The chocolate and khalua boozy milkshake was tasty, but I personally did not taste the alcohol, and for its size, $15 seemed pretty steep. Listen- this place is out in the middle of a small Indiana town and they did their best to provide something fun for visitors and locals! I really appreciated it! Boozy milkshakes, $3.75 glasses of Oliver wine, beer (they had Bells), milkshakes for kids and all kinds of different flavors of ice cream. They had pizza, wraps, sandwiches, and quesadillas. Is it fancy? No, but it doesn't need to be. It's a place to go and continue partying after a day at Turkey Run, Sugar Creek, or Waveland lake. It's also a place to take the kids when they are starving because there's really nothing else around the Turkey Run area. They also had board games, ping pong, and shuffle board. I live in IN, went to this place last year. They closed for off season and I marked on my calendar when they would re-open. We went last weekend and we won't go back. This was my favorite place to eat last year. This past visit it was not the same, I guess it all depends on who they hire for the season? Food wasnt the same; sloppy wrap loaded with ranch dressing which didnt taste as good. The worse part was my Nacho Supreme; ordered it without 3 ingredients and it was brought to the table by a young female that seemed like it was a bother to her all 3 things I opted out of were on it. I wanted taco meat on it, which is didnt see and she says with a smart comment that the meat "was" put on, it was under the tortilla chips. I ordered nachos instead of a taco salad because I wanted the liquid cheese on it, not the shredded. It was nachos supreme with tortilla chips, the taco meat and shredded cheese. In what world do nachos and cheese have shredded cheese? what an absolute shame, I couldn't wait for them to open for the season start and after my 1 visit i won't go back. This place is such a hidden gem! I have two kids, 8 & 12 and they loved playing on the playground in the back and in the fake boat. The Turtle slide is fast enough that I (34 year old mom) giggled. I am vegan and I ordered pizza with no cheese and it was Delicious! They had fun souvenirs and great alcoholic drinks. They distilled their own rum! The service wasn't the quickest, but it made for more fun time for the kids to play. We loved this place and the friendly and hardworking staff. read more

It's been getting run down over the years and it is the experience of an old tiki bar with fair quality food priced over what you'd like to pay. It's not a bad experience however some of the cashiers are very unfriendly, some are and some are not. Read all the negative reviews...and I was prepared to be unimpressed. Let me frame this out though... because when you're camping in SmallTown, USA there are just certain things you expect. 1) to not have as many choices as you would in, for example, Indianapolis. 2) the pace of life is different (that's why you're out there) and 3) it's not going to be posh or 5 star (again...that's why you're out there) With those few things in mind, my wife and I had a great time with Sugar Valley Canoe, and so we stopped at Up The Creek on the way out. It's one of those zany decoration dock themes but with nods to the fact that they are in the middle of nowhere Indiana (saw the bear statues etc) It's a bar/snack shop/gift shop/"things you forgot or ran out of" shop all in one location. It's not extensive... they're a seasonal operation. It's got what you need. Now let's talk about the experience. Polite, helpful staff answered my questions about the key lime pie milkshake, and so you don't annoy the workers like I must have... its actual key lime pie (graham cracker crust and all) blended into a shake. Not key lime yogurt, or flavoring, or sherbet... actual pie. And it was sooooooo good. So good I went back the next day for another. Had a breakfast burrito which was also good enough. Better than a DQ burrito and it came with sour cream w/o asking! Long and short, it's not fancy and they don't mean to be. If you have a bad experience then they must have been slammed or the person had an attitude problem to begin with. If you're in the area... do stop by, it's best place to stop in the area. Definitely try the key lime milkshake. read more

Well, the time finally arrived yesterday to make the big stop. After half a day on the river, we were ready for some dinner and possibly one last beer. The setting of Up The Creek scream Key West-wannabe only it's missing some of the key features (get it? har har): margaritas, live music, table-side service, alcohol in general....They do, however, have key lime milkshakes and eight to ten ice cream flavors like peanut butter cup, pecan praline and orange sherbert. The menu is through and through traditional American: cheese filled breadsticks, hamburgers, french fries, milkshakes (try the peanut butter and banana - real banana chunks -quite delicious), polish sausages (okay, so I guess that's not "American"), and sandwiches. Meal price range: tops out at $8 per person. This place has a lot of potential in my opinion - add some drinks and a little live music and you've got the perfect post-river spot. If it weren't for the forest across the road I could swear I was in Key West. This place has it all; the mismatched tables & chairs, the frozen concoctions. Jimmy Buffet would feel right at home I'm sure. The food here is good for a side-of-the-road diner/dive. The menu has a good selection from your simple nachos and cheese to a blackened tilapia. But let me be honest the real winner here is the frozen drinks. I had the pleasure of knocking back 2 of the best Pina Colada's I've ever had. Let me tell you, as a city girl who was dragged into the lovely world of hiking and canoeing (sarcasm) these bad boy's were like the nectar of the gods. My taco was also good. There's a small store here if you need first aid or regular gas station stuff. Love this place but hopefully won't be back or that means I've been kidnapped by the "nature" people again. This is the camp store by which all others are measured and found lacking! They have everything and I do mean EVERYTHING! From gear to Biscuits & Gravy. This is truly one stop shopping at this little out of the way resort destination. A Gas station/ Dinner/ Camping Gear & Garb shop/ Cabin Rentals/ Camp Ground/ Canoe, Kayak, & tube Livery/ Putt-Putt Golf. Got a couple of days to kill this weekend and a couple of kids to entertain, you really can't go wrong at Up the Creek Boat-ique. And with Turkey Run out the front door there's no way a family could run out of things to do. It's been decorated either by a band of Pirates or a flock of Parrot Heads, either way it's kitchie in the funnest possible way. read more

Really weird place. Part convenience store. Part restaurant. Part bar. Part gas station. Part gift shop. Part camping supplies. And it does NONE of it well. Gas pumps are on their last breath and some taped together with duct tape to keep them running. They ask you to prepay for gas as they don't have pay at the pump. I went in to pay and it is confusing where to checkout. I went to one are and waited 3 minutes and realized it must not be a checkout because the lady was taking phone reservations and ignoring my presence. I went to the "restaurant " cashier and there were two people talking to each other that didn't acknowledge my presence either. I must be invisible! Do yourself a favor and Drive a half mile down the road and get your stuff at the other gas station. read more

This is a quaint location that a Jimmy Buffett fan would adore. The theme and hospitality are superb. The food is fitting for the location and the price is affordable. They serve booze, which is perfect for summer afternoon cocktail. Roxanne was such a sweetheart and she fed my dog ice cream on hot days. If you are in the area I advise you check it out! Up the Creek was a pleasantly unusual find while we were camping near Turkey Run. Located at Sugar Creek Canoe Trips, Up the Creek is a very touristy, strangely Key West-ish themed store and eatery. The camp store has a typical collection of snacks, camping items, and souvenir shirts. More importantly, the café is surprisingly good for something so kitschy. They have a wide selection, from burgers, to sandwiches and wraps, to ice cream, to pizza. You order at a counter and they bring your food to you when it's ready. There is seating indoors and outside. They also serve alcohol. We ate here twice in June 2016. The first visit was for a quick lunch. I had a toasted sub which was very good. My husband and oldest son tried two of the specialty sandwiches and both got good remarks. The younger two had quesadillas and fries. They offer fountain drinks or bottled. The fountain sodas are made with well water and had a slight aftertaste. Definitely not the worst I have had, but you should be aware if this is an issue for you. Prices were pretty good; our total for five was under $30. We also had ice cream afterward. The portions are ridiculously huge for the price. No complaints! Our second visit was for a pizza, because we heard others raving about it. We live near Chicago, so we are a bit picky about our pizza, but it looked good enough to give it a try. Plus we were craving pizza anyway. Oh. My. God. was it good. Reminded me a bit of the mom-and-pop pizzerias. Thin crust, yummy sauce, plenty of gooey cheese - it was a little bit of heaven. Who would have thought we'd find excellent pizza in rural Indiana? A medium cheese was just over $15. Up the Creek is definitely worth a visit for a quick meal if you are in the area. read more

I can personally recommend the bread sticks, jalapeño poppers, pizzas, nachos, chicken melt sandwich, pinacoladas, and key lime milk shakes. All were very good! You place your order at the counter and the employees bring it to your table. Employees were nice and patient.
