It's better than the other place in Covington. I want happy that i asked for a little sample of the pulled pork and got charged $15 for a while pulled pork sandwich. When i asked about the charge, the gentleman asked me if I wanted the bread. If you're going to charge for a while sandwich when you give me a 3 ounce sample you should let me know. read more

I truly enjoyed the ribs! Brought back memories from my youth. There was a guy who prepared smoked ribs on Fridays at my dad's business. He'd have a radio playing classic R&B and the smell from his smoker would entice my taste buds every single time! I walk in to Up Town and the aroma hits and, ironically, they've got the classic R&B playing in the restaurant. So...for me...it was a sort of flashback to 1976! First thing I ordered was the half slab....I got sauce samples of mild, medium, and hot. Hot was my favorite, but the ribs really didn't need any sauce. That's the first sign you've hit jackpot! A unique lunch time spot! Walk in and place your order at the window directly with the cook. Head to an indoor or out door table or give them just a minute if you want to carry out. I had the Jumbo pulled pork with slaw and a side of potato salad. The portions on both are generous. The potato salad was good, might have been made in any kitchen throughout the south. It was mustard based and crowned by a healthy shake of paprika. The pulled pork was everything it should have been. Tender, just a bit of chew, and smoky with a hint of char. I opted for the mild sauce and it was dark and rich with a molasses sweetness. The bun seemed fresh and stood up fairly well to the load of pork and added cole slaw. Service was prompt and courteous. This won't be my last visit and is just another example of why the Mid South is spoiled with quality BBQ. read more

AMAZING RIBS. My last night in Millington, TN and I look up some BBQ restaurants. Saw Up Town BBQ and the huge reviews and was like, I need to give these guys a try. Drove down tonight ordered the Ribs and pudding for dessert. The Ribs were awesome. They were smokey and tender (fall of the bones). Got the medium sauce as well as the beans and hush puppies. What a great place and great environment. The waitress (Alexis?) was super friendly and made the dessert herself. The owner (Kelvyn) is a great dude and fellow veteran. If anyone is looking to retire from the service, it may be worth your time swinging by, grabbing a meal, and getting some advice from Kelyvn. We came because it's veteran owned. The pork bbq & ribs are good , nice and smoked. I would avoid the coleslaw and onion rings as they are not the same as advertised. Beer battered onion rings are advertised but tiny over fried minced onion rings are served which are gross. The coleslaw served is yellow (mustard based) however a mayonnaise based coleslaw is advertised. Coke advertised but Pepsi served in bottles. Water also served in bottles. Baked beans and fries are acceptable. Plastic forks and plates , very informal. $60 for lunch for 3 adults. The fried mushrooms were tiny and over fried. The catfish is a large whole filleted fish but lacked flavor. We were charged for 2 water bottles and a Mountain Dew which we never ordered. The owner turned on a running advertisement of the menu, I pointed out the differences and he made excuses for the substituted side items. He attempted to make no adjustments to the check. If you want a very generous portion of good catfish, cooked just right, with good sides to choose from, you need to try this place. The fried onion petals were also a good appetizer! The place is clean and the service is very friendly. I would just suggest a couple of things that would make the experience top-notch ... homemade tarter sauce, instead of the little packets, would really take the good catfish plate to the next level ... real silverware (fork AND knife) instead of the tiny plastic fork would make eating more enjoyable ... and having more dining room help would make the service much more efficient, as it took a really long time because it was too much for one person to try to handle on their own. Also, I didn't order a soda this time because last time I did, I was served a can of Coke ... no cup, no ice. I don't mind canned Coke, in fact , I prefer it to fountain Cokes, but I don't want to drink it out of the can and I definitely have to have ice to pour it over. If a cup of ice was served with it, that would be much better. Other than those little tweaks, it was a good experience and we will definitely go again and try some other menu items. Recently moved to the area & this was one of the first places we decided to try. So glad we did! My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich plate & I got the catfish sandwich plate. They were both absolutely killer. Potato salad & cole slaw were fantastic as well. Takes to the owner for a bit while we waited for our food, wonderful man(also a veteran). Today was my second time here. I love the pulled pork and bbq sauce..I got baked beans and fries. They were good as well. My parents got the pulled pork and catfish with potato salad and baked beans. They thought theirs was good as well. My mom raved about the fish and how good and big it was. We don't get to Covington often, but I plan to make it a point to visit Uptown BBQ more regularly and you should too!! Oh and the service was impeccable!!
