    Veggies!

If you're wanting good food, super friendly service, all while dining in that classic, historical atmosphere, then this is the place to go. The food has never failed to taste great, wether getting a burger, a club sandwich, or a vegetable plate. The funny thing is, I'm hard pressed not to get the pasta salad every time I come in. They do pasta salad the way it's supposed to be done! Tastes like someone's little Greek grandmother threw it together in the kitchen!

    The look of the place

My fiancé and I love tasting restaurants, and this place was not disappointing at all. The place is clean and was packed with customers eating at tables and many orders to go too when we first arrived (always a great sign). I ordered a vegetarian meal, which was easy to pick from the sides, as all of them are vegetarian options, except for the white beans that contain bacon in them. But as a good Mexican I only put them to the side and ate them all up. The walls are pretty entertaining with funny quotes. I will not put the quotes so that you enjoy them when you get there. But I'm sure you can grasp a little from my pictures. I ordered the turnip greens, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and white beans. My fiancé ordered the Friday meal which is meatloaf with a choice of two sides although my fiancé picked two more sides, fried okra, broccoli with cheese, mashed potatoes with white gravy and a side of salad plus cornbread, and a bread bun. The salad came with a ranch dressing that is as good as "Chili's restaurant's" fresh ranch dressing (yum). We also ordered German chocolate cake but I didn't have time to take a picture, my fiancé ate it too fast. It was sweet and the coconut dressing was on point, perhaps too sugary for me but with a good side of coffee would have been fine (dang it I forgot to get coffee). The food here is as good as when you visit your cousins aunt , you feel the love into the meal. I definitely recommend this place, you don't have to dress nice, and the workers know you're not from the area so they all make sure to say hello, which I find that very caring. Everyone came over to say hi and greet us, "oh new faces, I hope you like what we have" lol , something like that was what two waitresses said. I will definitely be coming back and invite my coworkers when they have to work on this side of Tennessee.

They have meatloaf, my favorite, on Friday's and it is SO good!

Consistently delicious home style country cooking and excellent service. Generous portions too. Pictured here is meatloaf (served on Friday) and 2 veggies for 8 bucks.

Chicken and dressing, the Thursday Special, with 2 sides - purple hull peas and sweet potato casserole

Gets real crowded come lunch hour. When you walk into this little shop you can tell it's a town staple. The servers are real nice and sweet and they sure are good at upselling! I got the Thursday special: Chicken and dressing! It's chicken, and cornbread dressed with full bodied gravy. Haven't forgotten to mention the cranberry jelly that comes with it! Two sides I chose were purple hull peas and Thursday Special side - sweet potato casserole with melted marshmallow on top! Give me one sec to try it... Alright. Done and done. Oh my God it was great. I love beans and the purple hulled beans were soft and just seasoned enough for my taste. The casserole was a hefty complement - made with real sweet potato (you can see the fibers), it added a healthy twist (though the marshmallow I can't say the same about haha). The chicken and dressing were delicious. Loved the cornbread underneath, the gravy was seasoned just right. The jelly was a little sweet for me, but overall, it was delicious. We were so full we didn't take a single bite out of the cornbread and bread rolls we were so accustomed to digging into. Now I know for the future, skip the rolls and I may have a chance at finishing the plate! Give this little shop a go :)

Great place to grab an inexpensive lunch. The staff is unbelievably friendly and the portions are huge. I had the country fried steak and it took up almost the entire plate. Along with the two sides and rolls, I couldn't finish it! If you are in the area..stop by!

I had the veggie plate with butter beans (they were a bit sweet and limas, not true butter beans), fried squash (the slice it long ways and hand batter), spinach mashed potatoes, and deviled eggs (delicious, no notes). I tried both hush puppies and a roll. Personally, the hush puppies weren't my favorite, but the roll was buttery goodness:). Most importantly, I asked our server at the beginning if they still had chocolate cobbler and if they were running low to go ahead and bring it out. At first they had plenty, but a few minutes later cobbler was in front of me because she noticed it was running low. So dessert first! Don't mind if I do:) it was warm, gooey, and delicious. Others in my group had the chicken fried steak, and chicken tenders. Everyone was very happy with their meals! Service was great, though the kitchen was a little slow. It took about 30 mins to get our meals. Fun, old timey atmosphere - great service - and delicious home cooking. Will definitely be back.

As soon as you're seated, you'll have a tempting signboard presented at your table with every southern classic you can imagine. With entrees like fried chicken and catfish, endless sides like turnip greens, white beans, and just about anything you can imagine fried, and every kind of southern pie, it's all there. The catfish is magnificent, with that wonderfully gritty cornmeal batter surrounding flaky, tender fish. The complimentary roll is also delicious! And the servers are very nice here! But there are some downsides. The fried okra, my favorite southern side dish, is actually soft and soggy. No self respecting southerner would ever make soggy fried okra. It's about the worst I ever had. And the onion rings, which are hard to mess up, were burnt black and lacked flavor. They were inedible. The cashier is rude and doesn't have time for "thank you" or small talk or a smile or even giving you your receipt when nobody else is in line to pay their bill. That's just how it is. If you want good catfish, Sling Shot Charlie's will come through. But if you want a southern culinary experience that's enjoyable, there are much better places to have it!

Haven't been here in years so decided to stop in. 2 large groups had just been seated and finished ordering when I sat down. Service was OK despite the big groups. Glad my small order got in before there's as I had finished eating when they bought the last plate to one of them. Food however, meh, just so so. I believe their sandwich plates are better than their meats & 2. The country ham was very good, tender and flavorful. The cornbread was not as they gave me a roll, guess they didn't have cornbread. The peas, well, canned, and on a large leaf of lettuce? The greens, canned. If you're going to advertise a hot lunch special, and it's limited to only 1 meat and specific veggies, seems like you would cook them as homemade vs straight from the can. The guy playing the piano at lunch was nice. Definitely a 'fu fu' place.
